17 Now [de] unto the King [basileus] eternal, [aion] immortal, [aphthartos] invisible, [aoratos] the only [monos] wise [sophos] God, [theos] be honour [time] and [kai] glory [doxa] for [eis] ever [aion] and ever. [aion] Amen. [amen] KJV-Interlinear
17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. NASB
Paul ends this passage with a praise description of Jesus Christ.
King – the foundation of absolute power and sovereignty.
Eternal – a period of time, an era, which has no beginning and no end.
Immortal – no limitations, no decay or decline, no corruptibility, a state of continuance in stability.
Invisible – incapable of being seen by human means, in the spiritual sense, undetectable by human methods.
Only wise God – only means single, one and only, excludes everyone and everything else. There is no other.
Wise means knowledge, understanding, omniscient, all knowing.
God is the highest possible being. There is no other, higher, smarter, better, etc. than God.
Honor – respect, distinguished, reputable. Perfect reputation.
Glory – magnificence, perfection, splendor, brilliance.
And so this is the description of Jesus Christ, of whom many religions reject, diminish, or ignore, who Himself is the only God, the only wise God, who is eternal and perfect, all powerful and sovereign of the universe and more.
And now to Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you without blemish, before the presence of His glory, with exceeding joy. To the only wise God, even Jesus Christ our Lord. To whom be glory and majesty, dominion and power, before time, now and forever. Amen. Believe it, because it is so.
