1 Timothy 2:8

8 I will [boulomai] therefore [oun] that men [aner] pray [proseuchomai] every [en] [pas] where, [topos] lifting up [epairo] holy [hosios] hands, [cheir] without [choris] wrath [orge] and [kai] doubting. [dialogismos] KJV-Interlinear

8 Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension. NASB

Evangelization of the world begins with prayer.

Men, ‘aner,’ sometimes refers to the male population only, but it can also refer to humanity in general, ‘anthropos.’ And in our case here, it refers to both. To men specifically and to men and women in general.

Women will be addressed in the next verse and following, but probably not in the manner in which you think.

All prayer is addressed to God the Father. Prayer is never offered to angels, to saints, to inanimate objects, to Mary, to ancestors, not even to Jesus. Jesus Himself gave us the pattern, ‘Our Father, who art in heaven…’

All prayer must be offered while the person is in fellowship. Any prayer offered while one is out of fellowship, is invalid.

Uplifted hands, is not a posture or the actual raising of hands. Anyone can do that.

Holy hands is a reference to ones spiritual life, or to ones active life while in fellowship. Thus sin free and in actual communication with God, based on His terms, not your own.

There are several special studies on confession and fellowship, and a detailed study is located in our 1 John study.

If you are not familiar with confession and fellowship, then your prayer life is most likely dysfunctional and ineffective.

‘Without wrath and doubting,’ further emphasizes, the requirement of praying while in fellowship, from a sin free state of ones mental attitude. If you have sin in your heart, then your prayer life will not work.

That is primarily why most prayers are not answered. People are out of fellowship, people do not pray in accordance with Gods guidelines or mandates, and people do not consider Gods plan and history when they pray.

And of course all prayer must be offered in Christ’s name.
