Psalm 40:2

Copyright  2016 J. Neely
Psalm 40:2

2 He brought me up [`alah] also out of an horrible [sha'own] pit [bowr], out of the miry [yaven] clay [tiyt], and set [quwm] my feet [regel] upon a rock [cela`], and established [kuwn] my goings ['ashur].   KJV-Interlinear

2 He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. ESV

The word for horrible, means noise, uproar, tumult, as the waters of a stormy ocean, as people at war. It refers to noise as no rhyme or reason, an uproar that is impossible to sort out the various components of that roar.

The word for pit, refers to a prison, a dungeon, a grave. It typically refers to any calamity or trouble where a person my say that he has gotten himself into a fix, or trapped in a pit.

Miry clay is a reference to the bottom of the pit. It means no solid ground. You are standing in muck that has no stability, and virtually no substance.

And this is the description of the world, and especially the world without truth, without God, without Christ, and without Bible doctrine. There is no clarity, there is no stability, and there is certainly no certainty and no proper orientation to anything around you.

People cannot pick themselves up within the pit of the world, and they cannot climb out of the pit of the world.

The only way out is when Christ lifts you out of pit. And this is done by salvation, when you believe in Christ. That is the ladder so to speak. And then Bible doctrine when it is learned, is the climb up the ladder, and out of the pit.

When a person sticks with their spiritual life, then they are forever out of the pit. Even though we live in this world, the pit, then the world, has no claim over us. At least no claim that would stick.

When a person does not stick with their spiritual life, because for whatever reason, they simply don’t believe in it, or don’t believe they need it, but for whatever reason, no spiritual life means entrapment in the pit.

All unbelievers are permanently stuck in the pit and have no way out on their own.

The only way out of the pit is through Christ.

Christ is salvation, and Christ is Bible doctrine.

Faith results in salvation, and learning Bible doctrine results in spiritual growth.

In Christ, through doctrine is the rock, the solid surface, the secure foundation, which provides security and stability and certainty in life.

Study [by instruction],
to show thyself approved [spiritually mature]
unto God,
a workman [student]
that need not be ashamed [ignorant],
rightly dividing [learning, understanding, discerning]
the word of truth [Bible doctrine].

These studies are a part of the massive daily study web site at DailyBibeStudy.Org, and are written, so that you can come to Christ if you have not done so already, and therefore not be lost forever.

And if you have already believed in Christ, then these studies are written so you can learn and understand and grow in your spiritual life, so that you can come to the full knowledge of Christ, so that you can fulfill your meaning and purpose in life as God intended for you, and so you can qualify for a phenomenal eternal reward which you will have forever.  To ignore this opportunity to pursue a daily study means you will be incomplete, unfulfilled and you will lose out, big time.

The Daily Bible Study is online, making it possible as never before in all of human history, to advance in ones relationship with God, through Christ, and to complete yourself beyond your imagination.

But you have to decide to make that commitment.  No one else can study for you.  You have to do that yourself.
