Psalm 19:7
7 The law [towrah] of the LORD [Yahovah] is perfect, [tamiym]
converting [shuwb] the soul: [nephesh] the testimony [`eduwth] of
the LORD [Yahovah] is sure, ['aman] making wise [chakam] the
simple. [pathiy] KJV-Interlinear
7 The
law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is
sure, making wise the simple. NASB
The law, ‘towrah,’ refers
to the body of principles, or precepts.
This is a reference to the entirety of Gods truth as recorded and
communicated in the scriptures.
Perfect, ‘tamiym,’ means
full, complete, without blemish, sound, whole.
And the Word of God is just that.
It is the standard for completeness and soundness, without fault,
without error.
Converting, ‘shuwb,’ means
transformation, fulfilling, completion as in a structure that is built and
brought to the point of total completion.
The soul is the real you.
When you were born in to
this world, you were incomplete.
In order for you to
become complete, all of the missing components must be added to your essence.
You need to grow up
mentally, learn a language, how to read and write and to add. You need to learn to communicate and be
understood. You need to learn to
understand and then use what you know wisely.
As your life begins
empty, you need to have a means of productivity, so as to fulfill your
obligations to self, to people and to God especially. You need to become useful and not useless.
Your incompleteness needs
salvation added in order to obtain eternal life. Your knowledge needs to be filled in order
for you to gain understanding. Your
understanding needs to be applied in many different situations in order for you
to become wise. Your activity of life
needs to be useful in order for your life to become productive.
All of this needs to be
accomplished within the sphere of fellowship, such that your work and
accomplishments are due to God, and not to your own efforts, lest you boast of
your efforts apart from God.
Testimony, ‘eduwth,’
means that which is born to witness to.
That means that all truth comes from God. All that comes from God is
true evidence of that which is real and correct and factual. In truth there is no deception, nothing
misleading, no lies, no inaccuracies.
Sure, ‘aman,’ refers to
that which is firm, revealed, settled, verifiable.
The simple, ‘pathiy,’
means foolish, uninformed, naïve.
If you do not know
doctrine then you are a fool. If you
have not learned doctrine, then you cannot know its content, its truth, its
accuracies. If you have not learned doctrine, then you have nothing with which
to orient yourself to life or to anything accurately.
Thus the law, or the
content of the scriptures, is the source information, that converts the fool
into the wise. No doctrine, no
conversion.
No study, no doctrine.
If you have not been
taught something then you cannot know it, and if you do not know it, then you
cannot use it.
There is but one way to
be wise and that begins with your daily study, while in fellowship.
