Psalm 19:12

12 Who can understand [biyn] his errors [shagiy'ah]? cleanse [naqah] thou me from secret [cathar] faults. KJV-Interlinear

12 Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults. NASB

The question is, ‘Who can identify his own errors?’  Who can cleanse himself from those errors?’

Without doctrine, no one can identify that they are full of errors.  Without doctrine, or the laws of God, no one can discern between that which is right from that which is wrong.

If the world went without Gods truth in any and every form, then no one would have any standard with which to even begin to decide what is right and that which is wrong.  What you would end up with would be beliefs of popular consent.  That means witches would burn, and anyone could be declared a witch, and evil would rule.

The jungle laws would reign, and no one would be safe, ever.

But doctrine and its revelation began in the Garden with Adam. And even after the fall of man, and when man was outside of the Garden, then their children, Cain and Abel for example, knew of the laws of God.  They just had different views of those laws.

Abel had the proper sacrifice and Cain did not.  But they learned of the sacrifices from God, or most likely they learned of them from their dad, Adam.

Even after leaving the Garden, Adam and Eve learned of Gods laws as the Bible tells us that they were clothed with animal skins.  Note here, that animal skins came from animals and more precisely, they came from dead animals.  And those animal skins were used to cover the nakedness of man, which is to say the sin of man, which means that they came from the sacrifices of the animals, which sacrifices portray not only salvation but also, confession and the restoration to fellowship with God.  They lost that fellowship when they first sinned and tried to use human efforts (leaves) to cover up their nakedness.

God had a better cover, Christs’ work on the cross.

And generation after generation, came to learn the difference between right and wrong, and those principles spread throughout the world with the underlying foundation of truth.  All knowledge came from and began with, doctrine.

The first few chapters of Genesis, tells us that there were builders, and farmers and shepherds, and hunters and so forth.  Adam and Eves first set of clothing came from the sacrifices that God taught.  Sacrifices that required the use of fire to burn the animals.

So, all initial knowledge for humanity, came initially from God in some form.  After that, man has used that knowledge to build even more knowledge and understanding, upon knowledge and understanding until we have the many things that we have today.

But without Gods word, no one would have any idea as to their ways in errors.  So, who can understand their own errors?  No one, unless they have Gods word as a standard to compare against.

Who can cleanse themselves?  No one.

Sin is uncleansable by mans own effort.

Man is soiled by sin and that filth permeates his entire essence, such that man cannot take a long enough shower or use enough soap, to clean the sin out of every genetic fiber of his own essence.

And the answer again is no one can clean themselves.

It takes the supernatural work of God and doctrine, to clean up the uncleanable.

Salvation provides the first and initial cleaning away of sin, but after salvation, then people commit sins again and again, and then it takes doctrine, or the understanding of doctrine, to keep the cleaning process going throughout ones life.

You cannot function properly in society if you are filthy of putrid, stench and decay.

Confession is the cleaning process for removing ones sins and restoring one back into fellowship.

Fellowship is the spiritual classroom and environment and position before God, wherein the person can learn and grow and interact with God and life.

When you are in fellowship, you are in effect standing before God, in His presence as it were, and functioning within the full operational scope of the spiritual life.

When you are out of fellowship, then you are out of the presence of God and out of the functioning spiritual life.  All switches are in the off position.

And therefore, the secret faults are those errors that even you cannot see unless you possess doctrine, with which to see them.

You cannot clean up your own self, by yourself, using your own opinions, philosophies, or beliefs.

Only doctrine that is known to you, can accomplish that end result of spiritual cleanliness.
