Ephesians 6:1

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Ephesians 6:1

1 Children, [teknon] obey [hupakouo] your [humon] parents [goneus] in [en] the Lord: [kurios] for [gar] this [touto] is [esti] right. [dikaios] KJV-Interlinear

1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. NASB

The husband is the head of the home and is commanded to love his wife as Christ loves the church.  Love here is based on principle, and therefore the husband is the driving force for the principles of truth within the family.

The wife is commanded to submit to her husband, which establishes the principle of authority and respect which too is commanded of the wife.

Now, the children are commanded to obey their parents.  Obedience here means to listen, to be attentive, to heed, to hearken, and thus to follow instruction.

It is presumed here that the parents are knowledgeable in life and thus have the wisdom to lead and to teach their children in the ways of the world and of life and especially of doctrine, which ties all of life together, making everything clear and understandable and discernible.

Children, is a reference to those who are living under the roof of their parents.  Those children who have grown up and are off on their own, again, presumably learned what they have needed to learn and are thus prepared to lead their own families.

One of the objectives of the family, is to raise their children such that while they are under authority and responsibility to their parents, will soon learn to be independent from their family and able to function autonomously in life apart from their parents.

And so it is with the spiritual life.

God raises us all up in doctrine, so that we are not only complete, but so that we will be independent from the entrapments of this world, but so too that we will be able to live autonomously from this world, looking to God alone for guidance and safety in faith.

Likewise, the parents have been successful when their children grow up and are able to live life and function independently from them.  They make their own decisions, they fall, they get up, they forge ahead with their own plans and goals and discover for themselves the purpose that God has designed for them personally.

This is right, means just that.  There is but one way to live life and that is in accordance with doctrine.

For through doctrine all things come to us from God, and life comes to us in a phenomenal way, even beyond our imagination.

Bible doctrine is the foundation for all of existence, authority is the structure that promotes growth and containment within reality, and obedience is the discipline that leads us to great accomplishment.

Isaiah 7:19

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Isaiah 7:19

19 And they shall come, [bow'] and shall rest [nuwach] all of them in the desolate [battah] valleys, [nachal] and in the holes [naqiyq] of the rocks, [cela`] and upon all thorns, [na`atsuwts] and upon all bushes. [nahalol] KJV-Interlinear

19 And they will all come and settle on the steep ravines, on the ledges of the cliffs, on all the thorn bushes, and on all the watering places.  NASB

Revelation portrays Israel as a land of wealth and thus the western king is its protector, but not for the wealth, but for its eventual destruction.  That is Satan’s ultimate plan, get them all into one area and then destroy them.

This verse portrays the land which herein is Judah, as a land now overrun by invading armies.  Like bees and flies, they will be everywhere, swarming.

They will be in the good valleys, the cities, along the good waterways, and even in places that people generally do not go, thus the thorns and bushes.

And so continuing on from the description of the previous verse, the land will be overrun and overwhelmed by its enemies.  And those enemies will consume everything, leaving nothing of value.

And even though many prophecies are fulfilled in part at various points in history, such as in the Babylonian invasion, followed by the Persian invasion, followed by the Greek and Roman invasions, the ultimate fulfillment of the prophecy will not occur until the final days of history, just prior to the Second Advent.  That will be in the Tribulation.

The Tribulation will be the absolute worst period of history not only for Israel, but for the entire world.

The description here is one of overwhelming occupation and destruction of the land.

Isaiah 7:18

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Isaiah 7:18

18 And it shall come to pass in that day, [yowm] that the LORD [Yahovah] shall hiss [sharaq] for the fly [zabuwb] that is in the uttermost part [qatseh] of the rivers [ya`or] of Egypt, [Mitsrayim] and for the bee [dabowrah] that is in the land ['erets] of Assyria. ['Ashshuwr] KJV-Interlinear

18 And it will come about in that day, that the Lord will whistle for the fly that is in the remotest part of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. NASB

In that day is a reference to the day on which the Lords judgment will take place. It could occur in the space of a single day or over the course of a longer period of time such as a week or month or even several years.

The hiss, comes from Isa. 5:26, wherein the Lord will call or whistle or blow a flute or some instrument, and those who hear, will come to its call.  In the ancient world, bees were called out of their hives into the fields and back to the hives, with flute like calls.

And so it is used here to demonstrate that the Lord controls history, not man.  He uses His power and intellect and plan, and ability and so forth, to call forth the nations from the far distant places, to rally and come to participate in the destruction being executed.

The fly can also refer to a plague of flies, huge numbers of flies, the decaying aspect of flies consuming decay, the trouble that large numbers of flies cause, and so forth.  And here it is a reference to the armies from the south and from the north, that will invade the land.

When an area is dried up and/or in decay, then flies appear from seemingly out of nowhere and in great numbers.

Bees come when called and they can be just as pesky if not more so, than flies.

And so this prophecy was fulfilled by successive invasions of Pharaoh-Necho, Esarhaddon and Nebuchadnezzar, Isa 36; 37; 2 Chron 36:7-21.

But the real prophecy will culminate in that day, which is the ultimate day of judgment that will occur in the Tribulation.

Throughout history, Gods day of judgment applies to the various nations and empires that have existed, it has applied to every single individual within their individual lives, and it most certainly will apply at the end of history during the Tribulation.

Psalm 19:13

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Psalm 19:13

13 Keep back [chasak] thy servant [`ebed] also from presumptuous [zed] sins; let them not have dominion [mashal] over me: then shall I be upright, [tamam] and I shall be innocent [naqah] from the great [rab] transgression. [pesha`] KJV-Interlinear

13 Also keep back Thy servant from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression. NASB

There are several passages in the Old Testament that make reference to the confession process.  Beginning in Leviticus with the first five chapters and the first five sacrifices, and here that process is described not in its mechanics, but in its purpose and results.

This verse and the next fully incorporate the spiritual process and function of spirituality.

Beginning with the prior verse, in the question that is asked, ‘How?’

And now in this verse, the restraint that is applied to ones life, but not by means of ones own effort, but by means by Gods effort, then restraint is placed on or provided for the continuation of the prevention of sin in the life, especially those sins that come naturally and easily to oneself simply because you have a habit or a comfort zone in them.

Thus, keep back, is a reference to the errors described in the previous verse.  Keep them back and out of my life.

But how is that possible when we are all sinners are susceptible to sin, simply because this world inundates us with burdens and temptations and pressures and enticements and so forth.

Presumptuous sins are not those which are open or obvious in ones life, but to those that are boiling, swelling, inflated, or in other words, those sins that drive your life, those sins that are a part of your habit or pattern of life.  They are the sins that you do over and over, again and again, simply because you have incorporated them into your life, perhaps without realizing it, but more so that you simply don’t want to change.

Let them not have dominion over me, is probably obvious, but is means to consume you, to control you, to take over your life such that you find it difficult to avoid them.

Self-righteousness, or perhaps sins of a lascivious nature, or sins of indifference toward truth, may be examples of ingrained patterns of beliefs or activities that encompass ones life.

The great transgression, is not a reference to any one single sin, but a reference to the whole pattern of sin or sins that you are susceptible to and seem to be dominated by in your life.

The great transgression is anything and everything that keeps you out of fellowship and out of Gods will and plan for your life.  This can even include your unteachable attitude in resisting Gods mandates.

To be innocent, means to be freed from the burdens that sins place on your life.

The true function of freedom in ones life exists when you are in fellowship. That is the only place wherein you can freely grow and learn and understand all that there is to know and understand and grow to spiritual maturity and beyond.

Fellowship is the place of clarity of thought, clarity of discernment, clarity in decisions.  It is the place of real opportunity.

Innocence is the freedom you have when sin does not burden your life.

Upright, is then the actual placement of oneself into fellowship. That is the position where the spiritual life functions.

Therefore, to cleanse, from the prior verse, is the function of washing away, with repetition, the sins that constantly burden or harass you within your life, as well as all sins of course.

This prevents them from controlling your life. When there is sin in your life, then that places the sin nature in control over your life.  You are never really in control over your own self when you live within the carnal world of sin, regardless of what that sin may be.

With confession you then become upright, or placed in fellowship.

You then become innocent or free from the burdens of sin and the sin nature.

And that in turn frees you to grow and prosper in your life since you are free, while in fellowship, to pursue that which God intends for you.

Therein is the real freedom and purpose and design that God gave you, both for now and forever.

Psalm 19:12

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Psalm 19:12

12 Who can understand [biyn] his errors [shagiy'ah]? cleanse [naqah] thou me from secret [cathar] faults. KJV-Interlinear

12 Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults. NASB

The question is, ‘Who can identify his own errors?’  Who can cleanse himself from those errors?’

Without doctrine, no one can identify that they are full of errors.  Without doctrine, or the laws of God, no one can discern between that which is right from that which is wrong.

If the world went without Gods truth in any and every form, then no one would have any standard with which to even begin to decide what is right and that which is wrong.  What you would end up with would be beliefs of popular consent.  That means witches would burn, and anyone could be declared a witch, and evil would rule.

The jungle laws would reign, and no one would be safe, ever.

But doctrine and its revelation began in the Garden with Adam. And even after the fall of man, and when man was outside of the Garden, then their children, Cain and Abel for example, knew of the laws of God.  They just had different views of those laws.

Abel had the proper sacrifice and Cain did not.  But they learned of the sacrifices from God, or most likely they learned of them from their dad, Adam.

Even after leaving the Garden, Adam and Eve learned of Gods laws as the Bible tells us that they were clothed with animal skins.  Note here, that animal skins came from animals and more precisely, they came from dead animals.  And those animal skins were used to cover the nakedness of man, which is to say the sin of man, which means that they came from the sacrifices of the animals, which sacrifices portray not only salvation but also, confession and the restoration to fellowship with God.  They lost that fellowship when they first sinned and tried to use human efforts (leaves) to cover up their nakedness.

God had a better cover, Christs’ work on the cross.

And generation after generation, came to learn the difference between right and wrong, and those principles spread throughout the world with the underlying foundation of truth.  All knowledge came from and began with, doctrine.

The first few chapters of Genesis, tells us that there were builders, and farmers and shepherds, and hunters and so forth.  Adam and Eves first set of clothing came from the sacrifices that God taught.  Sacrifices that required the use of fire to burn the animals.

So, all initial knowledge for humanity, came initially from God in some form.  After that, man has used that knowledge to build even more knowledge and understanding, upon knowledge and understanding until we have the many things that we have today.

But without Gods word, no one would have any idea as to their ways in errors.  So, who can understand their own errors?  No one, unless they have Gods word as a standard to compare against.

Who can cleanse themselves?  No one.

Sin is uncleansable by mans own effort.

Man is soiled by sin and that filth permeates his entire essence, such that man cannot take a long enough shower or use enough soap, to clean the sin out of every genetic fiber of his own essence.

And the answer again is no one can clean themselves.

It takes the supernatural work of God and doctrine, to clean up the uncleanable.

Salvation provides the first and initial cleaning away of sin, but after salvation, then people commit sins again and again, and then it takes doctrine, or the understanding of doctrine, to keep the cleaning process going throughout ones life.

You cannot function properly in society if you are filthy of putrid, stench and decay.

Confession is the cleaning process for removing ones sins and restoring one back into fellowship.

Fellowship is the spiritual classroom and environment and position before God, wherein the person can learn and grow and interact with God and life.

When you are in fellowship, you are in effect standing before God, in His presence as it were, and functioning within the full operational scope of the spiritual life.

When you are out of fellowship, then you are out of the presence of God and out of the functioning spiritual life.  All switches are in the off position.

And therefore, the secret faults are those errors that even you cannot see unless you possess doctrine, with which to see them.

You cannot clean up your own self, by yourself, using your own opinions, philosophies, or beliefs.

Only doctrine that is known to you, can accomplish that end result of spiritual cleanliness.
