2 Timothy 2:14

14 Of these things [tauta] put them in remembrance, [hupomimnesko] charging [diamarturomai] them before [enopion] the Lord [kurios] that they strive [logomacheo] not [me] about words [logomacheo] to [eis] no [oudeis] profit, [chresimos] but to [epi] the subverting [katastrophe] of the hearers. [akouo]KJV-Interlinear

14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless, and leads to the ruin of the hearers. NASB

Remind, is yet another word that Paul uses to teach people to be consistent and persistent in their daily studies.  Paul has and will use remind, consider, recall, abstain, avoid, be strong, and other terms to convey the idea that doctrine is extremely important.  That doctrine is the single most important thing that you or anyone has in their life.

These things, is a reference to all that Paul has been saying in this letter, as well as all of the things that he has said in his prior letters, as well as the things that Peter and John and all of the Old Testament scriptures have been saying for years and centuries.

And yet people will haggle over a word or words and the meaning of a word of words.  Their haggling has no real purpose other than to cloud the truth and make life ambiguous for everyone.  Even those who do the haggling, have no real counter argument.  They have only their own opinions which are based in lies.

Remember, that the Bible is truth and any argument against the Bible is by default, lies.  However, people so abuse the Bible and misrepresent its content that even that study is made to be obscure.

However, the obscurity of all negative opinions are that way, only when listeners do not have a foundation of truth with which to counter the lies and clear the air, so to speak, and get to the real issues.

Only with a detailed study, a daily detailed study of the scriptures, can you have any hope of sorting out the lies from the truth.

Satan began the assault against truth long ago.  He confused Eve and then Adam, and brought sin and death to humanity.

Humanity continued that assault against truth, with philosophy, opinions, religions, cults and even many of the so called Christian organizations in our current day have diluted the fundamental truth of basic doctrines.  Subjects that should be basic to everyone's knowledge have been obscured or replaced.  Subjects like the trinity, the deity of Christ, eternal security, substitutionary atonement, salvation by faith, the grace of God, righteousness, justice, and on and on.

Popular topics such as internationalism, socialism, social justice, homosexuality, liberalism, alternative relationships, and so forth have inundated society and have become acceptable standards for life.  And all argument in favor of these ideals are nothing more than a striving or wrangling with words.

Even people who are trying to glean some understanding from the scriptures find themselves debating the issues over words and meanings and conclusions and such, and they too get frustrated and then lose faith and quit their pursuit in understanding.  And that is exactly what Satan and the world wants from you – to give up.

And here, Paul reminds us all, to avoid this debaters trap of ambiguity, lest frustration and failure consumes you.
