Revelation 5:4

DailyBibleStudy.Org

4 And [kai] I [ego] wept [klaio] much, [polus] because [hoti] no man [oudeis] was found [heurisko] worthy [axios] to open [anoigo] and [kai] to read [anaginosko] the book, [biblion] neither [oute] to look [blepo] thereon. [autos] KJV-Interlinear

4 And I began to weep greatly, because no one was found worthy to open the book, or to look into it; NASB

John wept, ‘klaio,’ to cry loudly, bewail, sob, weep, wail aloud. This type of crying comes from deep, very deep emotions of grief, anxiety, and an extreme sense of aloneness and helplessness.

The same word is used for Jesus' weeping over Jerusalem, Luke 19:41, and Peter's bitter weeping after betraying the Lord, Luke 22:62. It expresses strong, unrestrained emotion, and in John’s case, it represents extreme unrestrained emotion. John was overwhelmed.

And again, no man, ‘oudeis,’ no one, no man, woman, child, no person or thing, no created being of any kind.

After the proclamation from the angel, no one was found who could break the seals, unroll the scroll, thus releasing its contents into history, and at last end history and redeem permanently all who have believed in Gods promise.

This was the reaction of John at the destiny of the human race, and the total obliteration of humanity. All would end, and all would be lost.

That is, if mans redemption and eternal life were left up to man or angel, or anything else.

But as we all know, and will see soon, there is but one person who is qualified, and possesses the power and authority and ability to accomplish that which the scroll holds.

This book of Revelation, is more than a book of dragons, and mysterious numbers. It is a book, an account, of that which is going to be in our future. Not a story. Not a fairy tale. Not some science fiction invention of the imagination for entertainment, but the real deal.

And as most folks receive it with impunity, ridicule, mockery, and for most, indifference, the fact remains that the future of humanity will end one day, just as your life and mine, will end in due course after we have lived our designated decades.

Look around, and tell me how many folks are hundreds of years old, or even a hundred years old? Few to none. And how long is your life going to be? And what then?

Eternity is coming after us all, like a storm. Most just cannot see the clouds on the horizon.

And therefore most will not prepare for that which is inevitable in their lives.

And, most will lose out on a phenomenal future, which God has waiting for them in heaven. And heaven is our ultimate destiny, not this earth, and not this life.

You have a unique opportunity, now, to prepare for the greatest adventure ever, to prepare for the greatest wealth ever, to prepare for the greatest life ever, but it requires you to accept the responsibility in life for your adherence to Gods plan for your life. Namely, the study of the scriptures, and your advancement to spiritual maturity, which includes accepting your responsibilities in life.

Occupying your life with senseless games or habits, will not get you there, only focusing on that which is important in life, will accomplish for you that which God has prepared for you for eternity, namely advancement in your spiritual life, while simultaneously accepting responsibility for your earthly role in life, while you grow up.

No cult, no religion, no philosophy, no social life, will work. Only Bible doctrine has the power and the wherewithal to accomplish Gods plan for you.

If you haven’t already decided that this is the best course for you, then perhaps one day you will make that right decision, to pursue the completeness of your life. Hopefully it will come in your life, before it is too late, or too difficult to do. Pray that you do not weep as John weeps here, with intense weeping because of your own stupidity.

For if you ignore your spiritual life, then extreme overwhelming weeping is going to be in your future.

1 Timothy 6:10

DailyBibleStudy.Org

10 For [gar] the love of money [philarguria] is [esti] the root [rhiza] of all [pas] evil: [kakos] which [hos] while some [tis] coveted after, [oregomai] they have erred [apoplanao] from [apo] the faith, [pistis] and [kai] pierced [peripeiro] themselves [heautou] through [peripeiro] with many [polus] sorrows. [odune] KJV-Interlinear

10 For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith, and pierced themselves with many a pang. NASB

The phrase, ‘love of money,’ comes from a compound word, ‘philos,’ meaning friend, fond, associate, and the word, ‘arguros,’ meaning silver. This is a reference to the mental attitude, not to the article or item, which is the object of the attitude.

Root, means just that. It is the origin, cause or source. Therefore the attitude is the origin or cause which produces evil.

And why? Because the object (money), was ‘coveted after,’ ‘oregomai,’ desired with a desire that was as large as a mountain. The prefix from, ‘oros,’ means large or mountain.

Therefore, the object (money) was sought after with such a tremendous desire that all other concerns were set aside, or overshadowed as a mountain might overshadow a small home. The attitude is made the huge home.

This focus on such material things (money or whatever ones focus is on), leaves no room for paying attention to anything else.

And even though money is used here as an example, all worldly attractions are in view. Whether you focus on money or social activities with friends, drugs or hobbies, texting on your phone or watching television, or whatever occupies the majority of your time and attention day in and day out, then that huge degree of attention becomes an evil.

Why? Because, as we studied in the last verse, it becomes a snare, a trap. The repetition with which you focus your attention on something such that all other things in life are squeezed out of your life (especially your Bible study), then that object or activity becomes a self imposed trap. One that you voluntarily climb into and cannot get out.

It is like a strong drug which causes delusion and a fixation on something, such that you cannot let go. So your work, your education, your responsibilities in life, your Bible study, all get pushed aside, and your activity or focus become your prison.

Now, before we get too far, just one quick point here. This trap is more than a just a trap for individuals and their attitude toward things, it is also a trap where political philosophies are involved.

When governments pursue evil programs or philosophies, they get so involved in them that when they turn badly, getting out of them is nearly impossible, therefore the bad programs get turned up and pursued even more, and life gets worse and worse.

In order to get out of them (the bad programs), hard decisions for true principles have to be made, and that means that government has to let go of its controls and regulations, and that is difficult for governments and politicians to do. Likewise when there are citizens who are the beneficiaries of bad programs, then they too do not like to let go of their ‘free’ assistance or programs that they have become accustomed to. This is especially true for systems like socialism, communism, and such systems.

And when things get so bad, then the only way out is through intensive crime, revolt, war, famine, or economic depression, or such things, that force the changes needed in order to get society back on track.

But that is really another study for apostasy gone overboard in society.

This verse is more of an application for individuals. However, when the greater numbers of individuals turn sour on doctrine, then larger issues on a national or international scale become relevant.

Piercing through with many sorrows, should be clear now. Life, when doctrine is ignored, can and will become a source of hardship and sorrow for people, both individually and collectively if a larger number in society become distracted with worldly priorities.

You lose out in your spiritual life. You lose out in your eternal life’s blessings. You may even lose out as society declines and social norms lower their standards for truth, honesty and so forth. This includes economic problems, employment problems, loss of freedoms, mental health issues, and so forth.

Revelation 5:3

DailyBibleStudy.Org

3 And [kai] no man [oudeis] in [en] heaven, [ouranos] nor [oude] in [epi] earth, [ge] neither [oude] under [hupokato] the earth, [ge] was able [dunamai] to open [anoigo] the book, [biblion] neither [oude] to look [blepo] thereon. [autos] KJV-Interlinear

3 And no one in heaven, or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to open the book, or to look into it. NASB

And as far as the ability to look into the future, during our dispensation, the Church Age, there is no one who has or ever will have that ability.

John wrote this book about 96 A.D., and its future contents (from chapter six on) will be revealed, and will occur, in the Tribulation and after.

That leaves our dispensation in between, in which there will not be anyone who will be able to tell the future, look into the future, predict the future, prophesy of the future, or even guess as to what the future holds, without referring to this book of Revelation, and using it as their basis for whatever they want to speculate about.

The doctrine of the Rapture states that it is imminent. That means that it could occur at anytime, from the moment that John finished writing this book, nearly 1900 years ago.

That principle alone means that no prophecy for our Church Age exists, except for the Rapture, which concludes our dispensation, and therefore nobody possesses the gift of prophecy of any type for the period within our dispensation.

And even though specific prophecy does not exist in our dispensation, that does not mean that the trends and the stage setting predictions for the alignment of circumstances in preparation for the Tribulation, cannot be recognized. For we have many such predictions that are there to help us recognize that we are nearing the end of our age.

If there were prophecies for our dispensation, then that would mean that they would have to occur before the Rapture, and that would make it not imminent.

Anyway, all of the year 2000 predictions, the 2012 predictions, the Nostradamus material, the Mayan predictions, the Cayan prophecy, the Baha’i prophecies, and on and on and on. None of these are real. None of these, as well as others, have any basis in fact.

And that is stated here in this verse. No one, no man, no angel, no one in heaven or on this earth, no one in this entire universe, whether man or angel or created being of any kind, or occupants in the land of the dead, can reveal, predict, or say what the future holds.

The word for no man, ‘oudeis,’ does not refer to humanity, but to any sentient being, living or dead, past present or future. And no, means just that. None have ever had that ability, and none will ever have that ability, except to the extent that God reveals the future to them.

God made several detailed prophecies known in the Old Testament, but only one in the New Testament. That being this book as revealed to John.

No one predicted the death of presidents, the world wars, or the price of tea in China. If you have any sense at all, you yourself can predict with a certain degree of ambiguity, almost anything in the future. And sooner or later, someone famous will die, some earthquake will occur, some conflict or crime or whatever, will occur in the future, and you can stand up and take credit for it. And there will be those who will be in awe over your uncanny insight.

In all of these three great realms, heaven, the land of the living, the land of the dead, there was no one to be found.

None could open up the book of the future. No one could even look at it (perceive it, predict it, speculate it).

There is only one basis for all prophecies that are documented in cultures throughout history and from all over the world, and that is because they were spoken of by God to the ancients in centuries long ago.

Beginning with Noah, since after the flood, prophecy of a savior, prophecy of an end of time, have been handed down from generation to generation, and went with each culture as people spread across the planet.

And since Noah, there have been charlatans who have tried to predict the times and dates, either for their own amusement, for fame, or for profit, and none have ever come close.

We are obviously still here.

As for the present, look to God for your spiritual needs, 2 Tim. 2:15.

As for the future, look to God for the direction of humanity, and not to soothsayers or false prophets, Isa. 8:19.

1 Timothy 6:9

DailyBibleStudy.Org

9 But [de] they that will [boulomai] be rich [plouteo] fall [empipto] into [eis] temptation [peirasmos] and [kai] a snare, [pagis] and [kai] into many [polus] foolish [anoetos] and [kai] hurtful [blaberos] lusts, [epithumia] which [hostis] drown [buthizo] men [anthropos] in [eis] destruction [olethros] and [kai] perdition. [apoleia] KJV-Interlinear

9 But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. NASB

The word for want, ‘boulomai,’ refers to the intent or desires as to the focus of your life.

Rich, ‘plouteo,’ refers to increases. Whether it be with money, property, goods, trinkets or whatever, rich means to increase in whatever it is that you want more of.

Fall, ‘empipto,’ means to be tricked, to stumble, a continual stumbling through the repetition of making the same decisions over and over again.

Temptation, ‘peirasmos,’ means to endeavor, scrutinize, examine, putting to proof. And this indicates a willingness to be trapped by the enticements of the visual or the sensual.

Snare, ‘pagis,’ refers to a trap, tricked, fastened by a noose.

This verse is not limited to the love of money or wealth, but is a general warning against loving the things of this world, at the expense of Bible doctrine.

Things of the world can include lounging around gossiping, fixations on hobbies, spending way too much time on the internet or watching television or socializing, or doing things that are not really productive, or do not contribute to the betterment of your life, but instead tend to get you into trouble.

Whether you are a kid walking the streets or live your life in overdrive pursuing the making of money, both keep you from doctrine, and as such, both are traps from this world, that prevent you from advancing in your spiritual life, which is the real source of real and permanent wealth.

Anything that distracts you from your spiritual life, is a foolish and harmful desire. Anything that is sinful or criminal is obviously a foolish activity. However, anything that even if it is a legitimate activity in life (work, hobby, social, etc.), but your focus on it keeps or prevents you from any sort of Bible study, is also a foolish desire.

In either case, your decision to pursue the worldly thing, rather than the spiritual, is the problem. Your decisions in life decide your entire future.

And since your life consists of both a life in this world, and a life in eternity, then which life will be the longer lasting life? And eternity is obviously a lot longer than even a hundred year life in this world.

Before you were born into this world, you had no say as to the nature of your life. Even after you were born, your choices as far as a successful life are limited to your mental abilities, physical abilities, circumstances in your environment, circumstances in the world, and even luck, if you have any of that.

So, there are severe limitations as to who and what you can be and do in this world.

However, for eternity, you have right now, the time to define and design your next life, in its entirety. Your spiritual life is the single most valuable possession that you can possibly have, because within your spiritual life you can invest in your entire eternal future. Your life now, can reap great reward for eternity.

But, you have to pursue your spiritual life now, rather than ignoring it.

To ignore it means ruin and destruction.

Destruction, ‘olethros,’ means ruin, loss, destruction of possessions.

Perdition, ‘apoleia,’ means perish, loss, pernicious, waste.

And as far as your temporal life in this world goes, you will lose it all when you die and leave this world. Your worldly possessions will vanish from your possession. You will take with you, your soul and spirit, only, to heaven, and nothing else.

Someone once said that the hearse does not tow behind it a trailer of possessions to the grave. The Pharaohs took great wealth into their tombs, only to have them stolen by grave robbers.

The value of your spiritual life is something that cannot be measured. It far surpasses the collective wealth on this planet from all of history. To ignore that kind of wealth, is a fools choice.

Therefore, be responsible in your day to day life, but balance out your life with a daily study of Bible doctrine, so as to maximize your eternal wealth, while making a decent living in this life.

You could ask yourself each and every day, ‘What have I done today, or what will I do today, that will contribute to my overall completeness as a person and ready me for heaven and eternity?’

Try beginning you answer with a daily study of doctrine, and learning what God really wants from you, and for you. And then pursue your spiritual life with the greatest genuine passion that you can muster up from within yourself.

Revelation 5:2

2 And [kai] I saw [eido] a strong [ischuros] angel [aggelos] proclaiming [kerusso] with a loud [megas] voice, [phone] Who [tis] is [esti] worthy [axios] to open [anoigo] the book, [biblion] and [kai] to loose [luo] the seals [sphragis] thereof [autos]? KJV-Interlinear

2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?" NASB

Jesus Christ sits on the throne of heaven, holding in His right hand, a sealed document containing the details of the final events of history.

Written in eternity past as a part of the divine decrees, and sealed for all time until the proper date in history to be unsealed and revealed.

And that date does not occur until history has played itself out, covering the rebellion and fall of Satan, the creation and fall of man, the promise of a savior, the fulfillment of that promise, the assembly of a royal family, together with its removal from this world, and then Satan’s last and final attempt to take the throne for himself.

All the while Christ sits in heaven waiting for Gods very detailed plan for history to unfold and complete itself as prophesied.

And now, even with all of the events of history, which cover many thousands of years and more, a mighty angel, one who was appointed for this task alone.

Proclaiming, ‘kerusso,’ is a word assigned to one who is appointed to make an announcement.

Strong, ‘ischuros,’ indicates an extremely high position, occupied by one who possesses overwhelming qualifications and abilities for such a position.

And this angel, for he is identified as such, holds a very high office in heaven, and he makes an announcement, asking the entire universe a question, one in which he himself does not have an answer for, ‘Who is worthy…?’

And his question is greeted with total silence.

Worthy, ‘axios,’ means to be qualified physically, morally, spiritually. Who has lived for all of eternity and possesses the answers to all questions? Who has lived for all of eternity and has been witness to all events of history? Who has first hand and intimate knowledge of all things? Who has lived an exemplary life?

Who has the rank and attributes that are so comprehensive and complete, so as to qualify Him to unseal the last and final book which will not only reveal, but gives the one opening it, the rightful authority to carry out that which it is about to reveal?

8 And [de] having [echo] food [diatrophe] and [kai] raiment [skepasma] let us be [arkeo] therewith [toutois] content. [arkeo] KJV-Interlinear

8 And if we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. NASB

One of the most difficult things in life is the ability to distinguish between those things that we need and those things that we want in life.

This verse does not intend to say that you should want only the bare minimums in life in order to survive. God is not a fool, and God knows that the inherent desire for more and better is in everyone.

After all, He created salvation so that we could have heaven, which is far more than anything that exists on this earth.

Wanting more is natural and normal.

Likewise, God did not make everyone so that they could or should, get by on the bare essentials of life. He did promote David, Job, Solomon, Moses, and many others, to great positions, wealth, influence, and so forth.

God invented the principles of divine establishment which includes the principles of free enterprise, the principles of reservoirs, the principles of leadership, and so forth, so that everyone would have a place and resources in life, regardless of who they are.

What this verse is directed at, are the inordinate desires and ambitions that leave out the spiritual side of ones life.

Your spiritual life is the single most important aspect and component of your life. It is the only thing that you can take with you into eternity. Your spiritual life includes the content of your soul (spiritual content), the production of your life (spiritual production), and the inner resources (spiritual resources) that are eternal.

These things make up who you are, and qualify you for eternal blessings.

The expression of need for food and clothing, refers to the basic and necessary things that you need in order to get by in life, the talents and abilities that you have to apply to your life.

God placed us all in this world. We came in as babies, with nothing and nothing to offer.

All that we have or will have, comes from God and from no other source. God gave us all a means to support our self in this world, while we grow up in our spiritual life. Unfortunately far too many people place emphasis on their worldly life, and ignore their spiritual life. And your emphasis should be the other way around

You should place emphasis on your spiritual advancement, while simultaneously living your life in this world.
To some, God will give a little. To some God will give a lot. Whatever your situation is, it is good enough for you to allow you to advance in your spiritual life. And, if you are given more, then you will be able to help others in some fashion (employment, charity, whatever), to make their life in this world functional and/or tolerable, so that they can concentrate on their spiritual life.

Remember one important principle in life. You are to be a fruitful and productive person. What does that mean really? Well, when a tree or vine produces fruit, it is productive. But it does not produce fruit for itself. It produces for others. It does not eat its own production. Others benefit from its production.

And therefore, those who concentrate their lives on productivity and success for their own benefit, are missing the whole point of why they are here in this world in the first place.

Our future is in heaven, not on this earth.

However, governments and social views focus on this world and their own agenda as though it is the only accomplishment that will last forever. And it will not.

How many governments and empires and nations have come and gone from history. All of them. Why do you suppose that it is any different now?

As we have already studied in Thessalonians and Revelation, the vast majority of every citizen of every country on this planet will someday, move toward apostasy, as never before in history. You recall our ‘great apostasy’ study. And then the Rapture and Tribulation will occur.

So, whether it is your own demise in life or the next historical events of history, sooner or later you will leave this world behind and everything that you deemed valuable. What you need is your spiritual life, because it is that possession, and nothing from this world, that will carry you into eternity.

Revelation 5:1

1 And [kai] I saw [eido] in [epi] the right hand [dexios] of him that sat [kathemai] on [epi] the throne [thronos] a book [biblion] written [grapho] within [esothen] and [kai] on the backside, [opisthen] sealed [katasphragizo] with seven [hepta] seals. [sphragis] KJV-Interlinear

1 And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals. NASB

There is a lot of speculation as to the meaning and purpose of this verse, and for some, the speculation goes beyond the content of even the Bible.

We need only to pick apart the verse little by little and then we will know for a certainty exactly what is going on here.

First John sees, ‘His right hand’ (the right hand of the one sitting on the throne), and a book held therein. The one who is sitting in the throne is Jesus Christ.

The transition here in this chapter leaves that which has been revealed (chapters 1-4), intact, and continues in sequence, with additional information in the vision.

Jesus Christ is the one sitting on the throne, the one who holds the book.

The word for book, ‘biblion,’ refers to a writing, a written document, an item that contains writing at length, a roll, a bill, a book, a scroll. And this book is lengthy as determined by what it reveals.

In John’s day, the scroll was the typical mechanism of written documents. Usually written on one side and then rolled up so as to not reveal its content until it is unrolled. That is simply the nature of the document. When you roll up a piece or parchment or paper or whatever, then you cannot see what is written on the inside until you unroll it. That should be obvious.

However, this book contains writing on both sides of the material. How could John have known that? Well he saw the book or scroll. He saw writing on the outside of the scroll. And any normal person knowing the nature of scrolls, would surmise that there was writing on the inside as well.

He describes the writing as the form of text or body of the document, and not in the form of a label or title. A label or title of a document would be obvious and easily read and described as such.

This scroll is not described as a contract, title of ownership, legal decision, decree of marriage or divorce, or anything of that nature. A scroll documenting the purchase of real-estate in Jer. 32 is clearly defined as a legal document. And a scroll is described in Ezek. 2:9-10, describes lamentations due to the rebellious attitude of Israel, against God.

However in contrast, this scroll is directed at humanity in general, as the whole planet earth is included in the events that it reveals.

Note, that the scroll is never read (from within the context of this book of Revelation) and its detailed contents are never revealed, only the events that occur when each successive seal is broken, is made known. Thus by interpolation, and knowing the events described, we can surmise that the details that accompany them, are terribly severe for those who will be made to endure the actual events.

The scroll is sealed with seven seals.

Typically when a scroll is rolled up it may be tied with a string or something that would prevent it from unrolling on its own. Legal documents or documents of importance would be sealed with some form of wax or impression, which is intended to restrict their opening, except by certain and authorized persons. However, typically one seal is all that is required for the whole document.

In this case, there are seven seals (not typical in any era of history), each designed to protect a successive portion of the scroll as it is opened in sequence. The seals would have to be applied on the margin or edge of the scroll as it was rolled up, so that they could be broken in succession as the scroll was unrolled.

John saw the seven seals clearly, which also indicates the thickness, magnitude, or fullness of the scroll.

The number seven, throughout the Bible indicates ‘completeness,’ or ‘fullness,’ or ‘entirety,’ such that nothing more can or need be added or taken away in order to make it better. It is a finished document.

So, Jesus Christ, the unique person of the universe, the Son of God, and God Himself, who sits on the throne of heaven, in heaven, which is over all thrones, and of whom occupies and possesses the throne and all that it stands for, holds in His right hand of authority, a very detailed book, written on both sides of the paper, and sealed with seven official seals indicating that this book is complete, has been complete, and will not be changed in its content, and is now ready to be revealed.

But by whom? And what does it reveal?

7 For [gar] we brought [eisphero] nothing [oudeis] into [eis] this world, [kosmos] and it is certain [delos] [hoti] we can [dunamai] carry [ekphero] nothing [oude] [tis] out. [ekphero] KJV-Interlinear

7 For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. NASB

To focus on the temporal things of this world (possessions, accomplishments, accumulations, etc., from this world) to the extent that you ignore the riches of eternity, is the perfect example of a fool.

For what has anyone brought into the world, what has anyone contributed to the world, what innovation has anyone improved the world with, and so forth. And the answer is not in the technology or inventions or discoveries of humanity, but the answer is nothing. Man has brought nothing into the world, and man has added nothing to the world, in all of human history.

As an infant, every person born into the world comes in with nothing, Job 1:21.

As a very productive person, what has man added to his own being, that he can carry it with him into the afterlife? Nothing, Ecc. 5:15.

What thing, from this world is eternal? Nothing, Prov. 27:24. Riches from this world, are not forever. They are temporary at best.

And what gain is there, if you work hard all of your life, gain the entire worlds wealth and treasures and accomplishments, but lose all of your eternal benefits? None. You could own the entire planet, but when you die, you would have nothing, if you ignore, or are apathetic toward, your spiritual life.

There are two kinds of wealth – spiritual wealth and carnal wealth. The carnal wealth is from this world, and you can see and hold and spend and possess it. You can measure it and it is generally used to compare yourself against others in the world.

Spiritual wealth is in heaven and cannot be seen or felt or measured in any humanly way. And yet it is eternal. It is the wealth that you can have after this life ends. But you can only have it if you pursue your spiritual life now, rather than ignoring it.

We are all born into this world as infant babe’s. We possess nothing but the genetic potential we are given at birth. In order to access that potential, we have to grow up.

So it is, with the spiritual life. You are born again with spiritual potential, but your access to it does not become available to you, unless you grow up in your spiritual life.

Most folks ignore their spiritual life, and therefore never grow up, and therefore never gain access to their spiritual potentials.

The wise person, lives their temporal life to the best of their ability, while investing in their spiritual life through their daily Bible study. Therefore, they will survive this life and be prepared for a greater next life.

Revelation 4:11

Revelation 4:11

DailyBibleStudy.Org

11 Thou art [ei] worthy, [axios] O Lord, [kurios] to receive [lambano] glory [doxa] and [kai] honour [time] and [kai] power: [dunamis] for [hoti] thou [su] hast created [ktizo] all things, [pas] and [kai] for [dia] thy [sou] pleasure [thelema] they are [eisi] and [kai] were created. [ktizo] KJV-Interlinear

11 "Worthy art Thou, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for Thou didst create all things, and because of Thy will they existed, and were created." NASB

Worthy means to be deserving, qualified, suitable, due reward.

And who is worthy? God. And more specifically the one who occupies the throne in heaven, namely Jesus Christ, of whom this entire Bible, is all about.

And why is Christ worthy? Because of all that He is, His essence, His attributes, His power, His plan, His ability, His trustworthyness, His creation, His destiny that He has prepared for every person, His righteousness, His justice, His grace, and on and on and on. The entire content of chapter four, which we have just finished studying, is a testimony for all who have the ability to see the truth.

We have been able to peer into heaven, through John’s vision, and to see the perfect life of peace offered by God, to see the awesome power and ability and stability and provision of God, in accomplishing that perfect life, and the total absence of conflict, strife, deceit, lies, and burdens of all types.

Jesus Christ is qualified to receive glory, honor and authority, not because someone has given it to Him, but because He alone has done all of the work of creation and history, for the end purpose of good for all.

Jesus Christ created all things. The word for create, ‘ktizo,’ means to manufacture by means of proprietary right.

It is God who created the angels. It is God who created the universe. It is God who created life of all types. And God created them all, with perfection, Isa. 45:18.

It is Satan who caused deterioration, flaws, defects, and chaos in the universe and in life, Isa. 14:16-17, Rom 8:19-22.

The universe was created out of nothing, and it was created in an instant. The universe was created because of the will of God, and not from its own circumstances, and not from the source of its own components. The universe is not self-existent, not a recurring phenomena, does not possess authority over itself.

Proprietary, means the sole ownership of God, in design, invention, application and function. God caused the universe to come into existence, and God sustains the universe through the various laws that He alone invented. The laws of nature are neither natural nor accidental.

One would presume that the next universe (a better one), will have an entirely different set of rules which will govern it. That thought alone should get your imaginative juices flowing!

And therefore, since God is worthy, because of all that He is and who He is, and what He is, He alone holds the documents of history (the divine decrees), in which is written the entire content of human history, and more specifically the documents upon which is recorded the final years of mans rule on planet earth – the Tribulation.

And those details are about to be revealed in the next chapter

1 Timothy 6:6

DailyBibleStudy.Org

6 But [de] godliness [eusebeia] with [meta] contentment [autarkeia] is [esti] great [megas] gain. [porismos] KJV-Interlinear

6 But godliness actually is a means of great gain, when accompanied by contentment. NASB

Godliness means to be God like. And since we are to be God like, then we need to understand exactly what that means.

Obviously we cannot be omnipresent or omnipotent, so this has nothing to do with Gods attributes that man cannot attain. But it is possible for man to become perfect in character and behavior and thinking, if man will simply follow the path prescribed by God, for accomplishing a perfect life – a sin free life in other words.

But how is that possible?

Well, Jesus Christ solved the problem of sin for us all, when He went to the Cross and paid the price for sin and death. That makes sin and death no longer a hold of any kind over any of us.

However, there is still the question of forgiveness and that means that we have to acknowledge our flaws, sins, failures, etc., before God, in order to receive forgiveness.

But why is that. Since Christ paid for sin, then why do we need to be forgiven?

And that is really a simply question to answer.

We are human and subject to the flaws of humanity. We all sin by choice, even knowing that Christ has paid its price. So, when we sin, we are acting just like a misbehaving child. That requires discipline and/or forgiveness, depending on how stubborn we are in acknowledging our sins to God.

For some folks, doing whatever they want, seems perfectly right to them, even if what they do is wrong.

But before God, which is where we are all standing, no matter if we believe it or not, but we are all on notice that bad behavior will not go unpunished.

God is perfect and God is the source of life in this entire universe. In order to live with God, as we will eventually do, we have to become perfect, and that is where our ‘godliness’ enters into the picture of our life.

Our ‘spiritual life’ is another phrase for the concept of ‘godliness.’

We have only two choices, that of a carnal life or that of a spiritual life. The two are separated only by our confession of sins to God the Father. This of course only applies to believers, and not to unbelievers. The single question for unbelievers is whether or not they will believe in Christ. Until they believe, they have no spiritual life, nor even access to it.

So, godliness, a lifestyle of sinless perfection, is accomplished through confession. But there is one more part to the spiritual life, and that is growth, or growing up.

‘Accompanied by contentment.’

How does one become content? Through a sense of security.

And how does one gain a sense of security? By some form of success, prosperity, or happiness.

And how does one become successful, prosperous, or happy? By receiving blessings from some permanent source, making that blessing likewise permanent.

And what is that permanent source? Jesus Christ.

So, how do you persuade Christ to bless you? By obeying His mandates.

And what are His mandates? Well, His first and foremost mandate is to become godly, through contentment.

And just how do we accomplish that? ‘Study to show thyself approved (mature), rightly dividing (studying), the word of Truth.’

Your path to the fullness and completeness and most successful and prosperous and happiness and secure and contentment in your life, starts (and continues) with a daily study of the Bible.

And what is the result? ‘Great gain.’

Great, here means infinite. And gain means wealth.

Who do you know in this world that has infinite wealth? No one. But we do have examples of billionaires, and to most of us, that is a lot. Certainly more than most of us will ever see even in several lifetimes.

And yet, Christ has a vast treasure waiting for each one of us, in heaven. A treasure that would cause even a billionaire to drool.

While promoters of false doctrines try to accomplish their treasure through deceit and empty lies, you only have to study truth day by day, throughout your life, and those simple words written on the page will bring you to phenomenal treasures, beyond your, or anyone's, wildest dreams.

Revelation 4:10

10 The four [tessares] and [kai] twenty [eikosi] elders [presbuteros] fall down [pipto] before [enopion] him that sat [kathemai] on [epi] the throne, [thronos] and [kai] worship [proskuneo] him that liveth [zao] for [eis] ever [aion] and ever, [aion] and [kai] cast [ballo] their [autos] crowns [stephanos] before [enopion] the throne, [thronos] saying, [lego] KJV-Interlinear

10 the twenty-four elders will fall down before Him who sits on the throne, and will worship Him who lives forever and ever, and will cast their crowns before the throne, saying, NASB

The twenty-four elders, sitting on their twenty-four thrones, which we studied earlier in verse four, demonstrate their acknowledgement of the rule and authority and position of Christ, by bowing before Him and removing their crowns of royalty, and placing them at His feet.

For it is due to Christ that they have the crowns in the first place.

None of the elders (these represent the believers, and especially the mature believers of the Church Age), could have achieved their rank and blessing, were it not for Jesus Christ. That will be clear from their testimony in the next verse.

In heaven, there is perfect peace, prosperity, and contentment. There is no conflict, no dissention, no conceit of opinion. There is no inordinate ambition or competitiveness for authority or recognition.

The picture of Christ, the throne He occupies, and the foundation of truth upon which it sits, and so forth, provide overwhelming proof, in substance, as to the power and right and truth of God.

Far too many people live in this world and do not even take the time to read their Bibles. They all have an opinion, and they are all wrong in their conclusions regarding life. And yet right before us we have the detailed description of heaven and Gods sovereign authority and control, and purpose, which is good, and has the best interest in mind for each and every person.

And yet, people just do not seem to be interested. And that is unfortunate.

But as for you, since you are actually reading this study, and perhaps are engaged in other studies (hopefully good and legitimate studies), your future will be infinitely better than most people who live in this world. Actually your destiny will be infinitely better than most folks who have lived in all of human history. Too many have ignored the grace and blessings offered by God, and that is due to their disinterest.

If you have been following the 1 Timothy 6 study, then you know that those who lack truth, lack it because they just are not interested in truth, but in their own self defined destiny, which is no destiny at all.

By setting aside your own opinions and learning the truth from doctrine, you will voluntarily discover the overwhelming grace and blessings of God, and your total destiny and completeness in life, which comes from Him and through Him.

5 Perverse disputings [paradiatribe] of men [anthropos] of corrupt [diaphtheiro] minds, [nous] and [kai] destitute [apostereo] of the truth, [aletheia] supposing [nomizo] that gain [porismos] is [einai] godliness: [eusebeia] from [apo] such [toioutos] withdraw thyself. [aphistemi] KJV-Interlinear

5 and constant friction between men of depraved mind and deprived of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. NASB

Perverse dispute, is the application of the misemployment of terminology. In other words, it means that those who promote false teachings, false ideas, false concepts, false anything, misuse words in order to get their opinions heard.

To pervert means to distort, to misrepresent, to alter.

Dispute means to disagree, quarrel, to argue.

And in short, promoters of that which is false, do nothing to arrive at a sound solution, but only pursue that which pursues indefinite chaos.

Their minds are depraved.

Depraved means, corrupt, absent of anything sound, degraded, ruined. Their minds contain nothing sound. Truth is absent from within them.

Truth is the food of good health and preservation. Absence of truth means decay, rot, unhealthy, putrid.

Deprived of truth is an interesting phrase. Truth is readily available to all who genuinely desire it. However to those who reject truth, it becomes withheld not by God or others, but by means of their own decision to reject it.

They lack truth because they reject it. And they reject truth, because they presume that their path to godliness (a spiritual life, a full or complete life) comes to them through their own efforts, and not by means of God or truth.

They seek to define their own truth, however lacking full knowledge of the facts of the realities of this universe and beyond, they are incapable of determining truth on their own. They therefore invent truth, or better phrased, they invent their own reality. One which is convenient to their own desires, agenda, and goals.

And what is the goal of false ideas? Gain, by their own definition.

Some value money or wealth. Some value the sense of causing confusion among others. Some value the adoration or approbation they perceive to have from others, because of their views.

In every case, those who promote that which is false, have defined their own goals of happiness and success, as that which comes to them by means of their own efforts, or that which is from this world. God is left out entirely.

False teachers deny truth. False teaching does not advance ones spiritual life (the completion of ones life), but hinders it. False teaching is absent of truth. False teaching is nothing more than empty smoke filled air, lacking substance of every type. False teaching serves destruction and nothing else.

From such people, you should separate yourself, because just as disease is caused and spread by contact, so too, the disease of false teaching is spread by contact with it. Avoid it, avoid flirting with it, avoid even getting involved in its debates, because it is not interested in an answer, but the perpetuation of disputes, and the cause of your ultimate failure in life.

Revelation 4:9

Revelation 4:9

DailyBibleStudy.Org

9 And [kai] when [hotan] those beasts [zoon] give [didomi] glory [doxa] and [kai] honour [time] and [kai] thanks [eucharistia] to him that sat [kathemai] on [epi] the throne, [thronos] who [ho] liveth [zao] for [eis] ever [aion] and ever, [aion] KJV-Interlinear

9 And when the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, to Him who lives forever and ever, NASB

There are still a few hold outs that believe that the four entities are four angels. But perhaps this verse will put those thoughts to rest.

We have already seen that the four entities symbolize the essence of life, the attributes of God, Gods plan, the power and speed, and grace, and holiness of God, and, just to add one more ingredient into this symbolism, the ultimate purpose of God, to make man His joint heir forever.

We are not referring to the face image of man, but the six wings, as far as the reference to man goes.

Anyway, the four are now said to give glory to God. This does not mean to be praising or giving praise in so many words, but the actual giving or bestowing glory onto God.

Neither angel, nor man, nor any created being can give anything to God.

Likwise, this glory is given or bestowed, and has been bestowed onto God forever, ‘for ever and ever.’ From eternity past to eternity future. No angel or man or any created being, existed before they were created. So no one can or could give something when they did not exist in eternity past. That should seem simple enough.

Now for the words.

Give, ‘didomai,’ to bestow, bring forth, commit, deliver, give, grant, offer, put, set. These indicate that the essence of life, the essence of truth, the essence of God in other words, is the ultimate source of Gods glory.

God is perfect, His plan is perfect, there is nothing imperfect with regard to God. And this is of course in reference to the one who sits, who occupies, who possesses the throne, Jesus Christ.

Glory, ‘doxa,’ dignity, honor, praise, worship, magnificence.
Honor, ‘time,’ respect, credit, reputation.
Thanks, ‘eucharistia,’ gratitude, grateful.

All of these are possessions of God, and due to Gods perfect character and plan, all of life is beholden, grateful, indebted to God. Were it not for God in all of His essence and glory, there would not be any plan, history, life, or destiny for any of us.

To Him that ‘sat,’ past tense. Christ has sat on the throne in heaven always. He has sat there and owned that throne since eternity past. There has never been a time when He did not sit on the throne. It is His and has always been His. There will never be a time when it will not be His.

This entire chapter is a picture of God and Christ, His essence, His character, His perfect right to rule and remove evil in all of its forms. And despite angelic and human history and the many attempts to remove Christ from His throne, all of those attempts will fail.

1 Timothy 6:4

1 Timothy 6:4

DailyBibleStudy.Org

4 He is proud, [tuphoo] knowing [epistamai] nothing, [medeis] but [alla] doting [noseo] about [peri] questions [zetesis] and [kai] strifes of words, [logomachia] whereof [ek] [hos] cometh [ginomai] envy, [phthonos] strife, [eris] railings, [blasphemia] evil [poneros] surmisings, [huponoia] KJV-Interlinear

4 he is conceited and understands nothing; but he has a morbid interest in controversial questions and disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions, NASB

Truth stands on its own and is readily apparent to anyone who has an objective view of it.

Any other opinion is nothing more than the invention of conjecture with no basis in fact. And yet, there are those who will invent theories, if only to create discussions, debates and arguments over their theories or beliefs.

All religions fall into this category of thinking. All cults fall into this category of thinking. All philosophies fall into this category of thinking.

Conceited, ‘tuphoo,’ means smoke, or air filled with nothing useful, inflated, high minded, proud, arrogant.

To understand nothing, means that the person proposing some untruth, lacks the ability to recognize the repercussions of their arguments. They may certainly know the difference between truth and lies, but their agenda is not in promoting truth, but in promoting themselves. They have a high opinion of their own intelligence, scholarship, insights, and presume that their arguments are legitimate discussions of their own intellectual discoveries.

Truth is obvious to anyone who is objective.

Therefore, if truth is rejected, then the argument has to be over words, their meanings, and to raised questions concerning alternate opinions that cannot easily be proved.

For example, no human was around when the universe was created, therefore there is no direct human witness. We do not have any video of its creation, and therefore when evolution is raised, there is no hard evidence differentiating between the two. Faith is all we have to go on, that the Bible is true, and that impossible to prove evolution theories, are not true.

No one can prove the precise date of Jesus’ birth, or the crucifixion, and yet we believe in Him and His sacrifice.

Stories galore, abound regarding who is to blame for Jesus’ execution, as to His relationships with others, whether or not He had a wife or even children, as to the power of various ‘sacred’ articles (the cup, the shroud, etc.). And all of these stories are mere inventions or fantasies so as to bring doubt or ambiguity into peoples’ view of Christianity.

Opponents argue over words and their definitions. They argue just for the sake of argument. And they argue only because they are arrogant. They want attention directed at them and not at the truth of the Bible. Their arguments will be ambiguous, and impossible to prove. Their arguments will be circular in order to avoid factual attachment to reality. They will use your own words as though they were theirs. And all the while, their words are nothing more than empty air.

By pursuing recognition for themselves, they reject the idea that the Bible can bring them recognition and success through faith. They deeply desire credit for themselves, where the Bible gives all credit to Christ, making man a mere beneficiary of His work and plan.

Their attacks against truth, are intended to confuse and raise doubt in others, thus destroying others’ opportunities for understanding and a better life, rather than in helping people to understand the truth of a matter, and giving others an opportunity for a better life.

Those who reject truth, have lust desires for themselves, and do not care for the life of others.

Revelation 4:8

DailyBibleStudy.Org

8 And [kai] the four [tessares] beasts [zoon] had [echo] each [ana] [heis] of them [kata] [heautou] six [hex] wings [pterux] about [kuklothen] him; and [kai] they were full [gemo] of eyes [ophthalmos] within: [esothen] and [kai] they rest [anapausis] not [ou] [echo] day [hemera] and [kai] night, [nux] saying, [lego] Holy, [hagios] holy, [hagios] holy, [hagios] Lord [kurios] God [theos] Almighty, [pantokrator] which [ho] was [en], [ho on kai ho en kai ho erchomenos] and [kai] is [on], [ho on kai ho en kai ho erchomenos] and [kai] is to come [erchomai]. [ho on kai ho en kai ho erchomenos] KJV-Interlinear

8 And the four living creatures, each one of them having six wings, are full of eyes around and within; and day and night they do not cease to say, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God, the Almighty, who was and who is and who is to come." NASB

One of the biggest errors in commentaries with regard to this verse, is that angels are presumed as being a part of the context, when they are never referred to at all.

Thus far we have had a description of entities with dramatic symbolism forcing us to look to the meanings of the symbols, and not to the entities as people or angels or animals or any type of creature.

And so it is with the wings. The mention of six wings has a tendency of directing ones attention to the six winged angels mentioned in Isaiah 6. And those six wings represented the highest of honors, and positions. They covered the eyes, the feet, and flight, in pairs of wings. These represent reverence, humility, and obedience in ones compliance with Gods will. They also represent responsibility and privilege.

However, wings throughout the Old Testament have had other meanings. They are a part of birds, and ancient sculptures such as bulls, lions, and animals of various sorts. These wing images usually symbolize phenomenal speed, and endless strength or power, or healing. The wings of a dove symbolize love.

Several references to wings are found in Zech 5:9, Job 39:26, Psa. 17:8, 18:10, 55:6, 68:13, 139:9, Prov. 23:5, Isa. 40:31, Mal. 4:2, Matt. 23:37.

The number six, is also the number assigned to man. Man was created on the sixth day.

The image of the throne and entities have thus far been symbolizing the power and plan of God, which power, is overwhelming. But when you combine the wings of reverence, humility and obedience, then you have a picture of Gods undivided grace and love.

And the reason that we come to this conclusion is that in the next phrase, full of eyes, which is an expression for endless eyes or infinite eyes, which never cease in their observations (all knowing), and in the next phrase, holy, holy, holy, mentioned three times, to emphasize Gods perfect essence, then we round out the entire picture of Gods total essence as an individual and as a trinity.

Holiness is the combination of righteousness and justice. Righteousness is Gods perfect sinless character, and justice is Gods perfect due process, or cleansing process, for dealing with sin and evil in all of its forms, washing it away forever.

The four entities ceaselessly repeat the words, holy, holy, holy, thus tying them eternally to God, and especially to the one who occupies the throne, Jesus Christ.

To the God almighty, means the highest authority and person in all of the universe. Almighty, ‘pantokrator,’ here means ruler. And therefore being God, He is the ultimate and highest ruler and authority and sovereign over all that exists.

Who is, who was, and who is to come, is a reference to Gods eternal existence. Jesus Christ is in view here. There was never a time in which He did not exist, and there will never be a time that He will not exist. Christ is eternal and infinite, and above Him, there is nothing else nor ever will be.

And thus, when God declares war on evil, He is justified in His cause and purpose and plan. And, He possesses the resources and abilities to defeat evil, permanently and forever.

1 Timothy 6:3

This study is from an on going online Daily Bible Study at:

1 Timothy 6:3

DailyBibleStudy.Org

3 If any man [ei tis] teach otherwise, [heterodidaskaleo] and [kai] consent [proserchomai] not [me] to wholesome [hugiaino] words, [logos] even the words of our [hemon] Lord [kurios] Jesus [Iesous] Christ, [Christos] and [kai] to the doctrine [didaskalia] which is according [kata] to godliness; [eusebeia] KJV-Interlinear

3 If anyone advocates a different doctrine, and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, NASB

The first responsibility of any Bible instructor, or Christian, is to know and understand Bible doctrine. Bible doctrine is truth and to know truth means that you must study it, in order to be able to discern it from everything that is false.

There are many opinions out there in the world, and in order to make any sense out of any of them, the only mechanism that exists in the entire world is the teaching discernment service offered by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit reveals truth to those who are in fellowship and to those who really want to learn.

This is not some supernatural or weird event which will make you euphoric or such things. The Holy Spirit teaches by means which we cannot feel, experience or detect in any way, shape or form. Those who are having some sort of ecstatic moment, are phony.

And to know any of this, you must engage in a daily study, and in that format, you will be able to discern between that which is true and that which is false.

In history, many diseases come and go and scientists study them in order to learn their characteristics, and then develop some sort of defense or inoculation against them.

Pathology is the study of the nature, origin, progress and cause of something.

The pathology that leads to the discernment of truth, is the study of truth, which reveals the false. And therefore when the false is known, then it can be prevented or avoided.

In anything that attacks society, there are symptoms that mark it as harmful.

Here Paul spells out several general symptoms that identify false doctrine.

First there is the different doctrine that does not agree with the Bible (the Word of Christ), and the second symptom is doctrine that does not conform to godliness.

Now these are very broad symptoms, but when one studies the Bible, objectively, and not from emotion or preconceived ideas or beliefs, and not from subjective motives (making truth what you want it to be, interpreting the Bible to agree with you), then you will be able to figure out what is right and what is not.

Some false teaching is obvious and some is obscure – denying God, denying the afterlife, denying Jesus, contradicting something that the Bible teaches, misstating Bible details, debating interpretations, applications to society and the norms of society, and so forth.

For every principle of truth, there is a counter principle from Satan and the world, to confuse or water down truth.

And the second broad principle for determining truth from the false, is whether or not it teaches or produces godliness. Godliness means likeness to God. And it is another way of describing the spiritual life and your advancement to spiritual maturity.

Any teaching that looks to man for mans advancement, is false. Any teaching that looks to God, for mans advancement, through Christ, by means of the Holy Spirit, is truth.

The fellowship concept verses the carnal concept of life contrasts these two approaches or views.

But, the only way you can know the truth, is to study it, and as we have already discovered, in this book, your study must come through a qualified instructor. You cannot learn truth on your own. At least not until you have had many years of study and have in your possession a solid foundation of truth already under your belt, so to speak.

Revelation 4:7

DailyBibleStudy.Org

7 And [kai] the first [protos] beast [zoon] was like [homoios] a lion, [leon] and [kai] the second [deuteros] beast [zoon] like [homoios] a calf, [moschos] and [kai] the third [tritos] beast [zoon] had [echo] a face [prosopon] as [hos] a man, [anthropos] and [kai] the fourth [tetartos] beast [zoon] was like [homoios] a flying [petomai] eagle. [aetos] KJV-Interlinear

7 And the first creature was like a lion, and the second creature like a calf, and the third creature had a face like that of a man, and the fourth creature was like a flying eagle. NASB

John is peering into heaven and sees, around and through the throne (realm) of God (heaven), four entities.

They are not creatures that are alive, but the essence of life, the foundation of all that exists, the essence of life, the essence of God, the essence of Gods overall plan.

Of the four entities, they have the ‘likeness,’ ‘homoios,’ they have the character, the similarity, the manner, the attributes of four creatures with which we are familiar – the lion, the calf (or ox), the man, and the flying eagle. Only the last entity is mentioned with an action, namely flying.

The likeness or uses of these four are:

Lion – strength or majesty; the standard of Judah (celebrated) on the east, with Issachar (reward) and Zabulon (habitation).

Ox – service and endurance or patience; the standard of Ephraim (double fruit) on the west, with Manasseh (causing to forget) and Benjamin (son of the right hand). Ephraim and Manasseh were the two sons of Joseph (add, increase), the double portion,

Man – reason; the standard of Reuben (first born, behold a son) on the south, with Simeon (to hear) and Gad (fortune).

Flying Eagle – far sightedness, accuracy of sight, and speed of flight; the standard of Dan (judge) on the north, with Asher (happiness) and Naphtali (wrestling's of God).

And it is Levi (to adhere), the priesthood that marched in the middle (of the four sides-unseen) of the procession of the twelve tribes, which binds them all together.

And all of these characteristics and descriptions point to the essence of God, truth, His divine plan, the divine decrees, Bible doctrine. These are the essence, the very foundation of all of existence.

And where are they?

In the midst of Gods throne, which throne is occupied by Jesus Christ.

He is the sovereign, the dominion, the power, the everything that makes life what it is, that makes our destiny what it is, that gives us all hope and a purpose. Jesus Christ controls history.

And it is these four, that will call forth the four horsemen of the Tribulation, the unveiling and revealing of Gods plan, and Satan's demise.

1 Timothy 6:2

1 Timothy 6:2

DailyBibleStudy.Org

2 And [de] they that have [echo] believing [pistos] masters, [despotes] let them [kataphroneo] not [me] despise [kataphroneo] them, because [hoti] they are [eisi] brethren; [adelphos] but [alla] rather [mallon] do them service, [douleuo] because [hoti] they are [eisi] faithful [pistos] and [kai] beloved, [agapetos] partakers [antilambanomai] of the benefit. [euergesia] These things [tauta] teach [didasko] and [kai] exhort. [parakaleo] KJV-Interlinear

2 And let those who have believers as their masters not be disrespectful to them because they are brethren, but let them serve them all the more, because those who partake of the benefit are believers and beloved. Teach and preach these principles. NASB

Christianity is a relationship. It is a relationship with God (the Father), through Christ. It is the only theology wherein a relationship with God or access to God is mandated through an intermediary.

All other religions, all other belief systems, view life as man by mans efforts, as the basis for acquiring or earning anything better for man. And the foundation for that belief system is arrogance. For man has no authority or sovereignty or power to wield his own will in this universe.

Only God has that capability.

And as such, being a relationship with God, we (believers in Christ) are all brethren or family, in one family, which is the family of God.

Being in that family we lose all distinctions that the world has with regard to male or female, Jew or gentile, rich or poor, and so forth. But these distinctions exist only the spiritual realm with respect to each individuals access to God. We still have to deal with them in this life in this world, for now.

We are all subject to spiritual growth, and in that regard, some will be more advanced in their spiritual life than others, but that deals only with your eternal reward, not your spiritual salvation status. Once saved always saved.

And as far as the world is concerned, we still have to live and function in this world, despite its many inequities.

God created the laws of divine establishment, in order for humanity to have a mechanism for sustaining itself through history.

We all have to live in this world and we have to follow the rules that God set up for the function of the world. To disregard those rules, leads to trouble in the world and trouble for each one of us.

One of those rules is the concept of authority and chain of command by which it functions.

This sets up rules for employers, for employees, for coaches and athletes, for teachers and students, for rules of the road and traffic control, for parents and children, for married couples, and for just about everything that you can think of in life that channels and guides the functions of life from day to day.

One of the more difficult barriers in life occurs when relations work for each other. Then you have the mental or physiological barrier which restricts the respect for authority in someone you are related to.

And that leads us to our verse.

The work ethic was emphasized in the prior verse, and now the relationship ethic is emphasized in this verse.

God is the ultimate authority, and as such God has placed every person in their place, for a reason. That reason may not be apparent to you, but suffice to say, God is smarter than you or I, and His decision should be enough for us all.

There will be times when your supervisor or superior is less qualified than you, or when a mature believer will be working for immature believers. That is not a mistake, and is not to be questioned by you, no matter what your relative role is in life.

You bite your tongue and suck it up as they say, and do your work with respect, as unto the Lord.

Your job is to do your job, and not to question the who’s and why’s of life. God will deal with all of the difficult decisions.

Believers are to serve their employers obediently, Eph 6:5; Col 3:22. They must dutifully, submissively respond to their employer's lawful instructions.

Believers are to serve their employers completely, Eph 6:5; Col 3:22. They are to carry out whatever tasks are assigned them, unless so doing would violate God's law, Acts 5:29.

Believers are to serve their employers respectfully, Eph 6:5. They must honor those God has placed in authority over them.

Believers are to serve their employers eagerly, in "sincerity" of heart, Eph 6:5; Col 3:22. They should serve voluntarily, not grudgingly.

Believers are to serve their employers exceptionally, "as to Christ", Eph 6:5; cf. Col 3:23. They must do their jobs to the best of their ability without subversion or undermining the task.

Believers are to serve their employers diligently, Eph 6:6; cf. Col 3:22. They must not put on a show for the boss by working hard only when he is watching.

Believers are to serve their employers humbly, not "as men-pleasers", Eph 6:6; cf. Col 3:23. They are not to show off to ingratiate themselves with others.

Believers are to serve their employers spiritually, "doing the will of God from the heart", Eph 6:6. All work is sacred and performed ultimately for the glory of God.

Believers are to serve their employers eschatologically, "knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. . . . For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality," Col 3:24-25. Believers' eternal rewards will be affected by their job performance.

It is not the churches role to define or undermine the foundations or order of society, but to teach Bible doctrine such that believers can learn their role and responsibility to society through doctrine.

Revelation 4:6b

DailyBibleStudy.Org

6 And [kai] before [enopion] the throne [thronos] there was a sea [thalassa] of glass [hualinos] like [homoios] unto crystal: [krustallos] and [kai] in [en] the midst [mesos] of the throne, [thronos] and [kai] round about [kuklo] the throne, [thronos] were four [tessares] beasts [zoon] full [gemo] of eyes [ophthalmos] before [emprosthen] and [kai] behind. [opisthen] KJV-Interlinear

6 and before the throne there was, as it were, a sea of glass like crystal; and in the center and around the throne, four living creatures full of eyes in front and behind. NASB

The contrast between heaven and earth is one of perfect peace and calm and stability and absence of confrontation, verses the total life on earth which is burdened by constant pressures, unfairness, numerous opinions lacking wisdom, difficulties galore, and certainly confrontations that never end.

And in the center of it all, in heaven, around and about, in front and behind of Gods throne, are four beasts.

So what are these beasts that stand so prominently in heaven.

In order to understand it all, we need to know that many of the things we will read about in Revelation, are symbolic of some principle or truth. This book unlike other books in the Bible, is full of symbolism.

Sometimes the symbolism is defined, such as the lamp stands or torches, or seven spirits, and sometimes the symbolism is not defined. And in the case where definition is lacking we have to go to other parts of the Bible to find the answer and meaning of the symbolism.

This is one of those situations.

Most folks will relate this vision to the visions of Isaiah or Ezekiel, or both. However, those visions contained references to angels, namely cherubim and seraphim respectively. This vision does not have any such reference.

John’s vision has no reference to humanity, to angels, or even to animals. But, you say, what about the next verse? And in that verse even that reference is one of similarity not to identity, which excludes man, angels and animal, even though their appearances are used. But more on that when we get to the next verse.

In ancient times, cherubim were used to symbolize the protectors of Gods treasure, and the seraphim were used to symbolize the power with which God used to maintain such protection.

Cherubim with the flaming sword are placed at the entrance of the garden of Eden, Gen 3:24. Jehovah rode upon a cherub, and did fly, 2 Sam 22:11, Ps 18:10. He communes with his people from between the cherubim, Ex 25:22. He is the Shepherd of Israel, who dwells between the cherubim, Ps 80:1. The temple in Ezek 41:18 is adorned with cherubim, as being the dwelling-place of God; They are the attendants of the glory of God in Ezek 1:22-28; Seraphim fill an analogous position, Isa 6:2.

However, angels are not referenced here, but the symbolism is consistent with that of the Old Testament passages.

The word for four beasts, carries the connotation living, and more than that, the possession of life.

These living beings are not separate and distinct beings, but they exist round about, or in the midst of, which means to exist through and through, intermingled with, occupying the same space as (omnipresence), the throne.

Gods throne, as we have already studied is symbolic of Gods authority and power and exists everywhere. And coming from heaven it is the source, as God is the source, of all life. And, it is the support and provision as God is the provision. And these that are living life, are the sole support and sustainers of life. They are life, itself, and more, much, much more.

Its eyes all around, see everything, omniscience. It, the source of life, sees not only what is and what was, but what could have been, or what could be but will not be. He eyes see all of the actual as well as the possible.

The four creatures are spoken of as one, in the singular, not in the plural. They are the very basis, the very foundation, of life and all that is truth.

1 Timothy 6:1

1 Timothy 6:1

DailyBibleStudy.Org

1 Let [eisi] as many [hosos] servants [doulos] as [hosos] are [eisi] under [hupo] the yoke [zugos] count [hegeomai] their own [idios] masters [despotes] worthy [axios] of all [pas] honour, [time] that [hina me] the name [onoma] of God [theos] and [kai] his doctrine [didaskalia] be [blasphemeo] not [hina me] blasphemed. [blasphemeo] KJV-Interlinear

1 Let all who are under the yoke as slaves regard their own masters as worthy of all honor so that the name of God and our doctrine may not be spoken against. NASB

The work ethic is brought into view in these verses. While believing employers are mentioned in the next verse, unbelieving employers are first considered in this first verse.

The phrase, ‘under the yoke,’ is an expression for work or employment. It does not carry the connotation of abuse or hardship, but merely of one who is employed and working for someone else.

‘As slaves,’ is a broadly defined word for employees, whether actual slaves or independent contractors, all people who are engaged in some form of employment are being referred to here.

We should probably review the concept of slavery in ancient times. Though it is outlawed today, what we consider as slavery, mostly from pre civil-war times, was not in fact what slavery was back in Pauls day.

Slavery was not outlawed or forbidden in the Bible. In fact, the Bible sets out many rules for slavery rights, and what could or could not be done with slaves.

Slaves could be acquired in different ways. Many were prisoners of war, Num 31:7-35, Deut 20:10-14. Slaves could be purchased, Ex 21:7; Lev 25:44-46. Some people sold themselves into slavery, Lev 25:39, Deut 15:12-17, others were sold to pay debts, 2 Kings 4:1; Neh 5:1-8. Slaves could be received as gifts, Gen 29:24, inherited, Lev 25:46, or they may have been were born to slaves and remained in that role.

Slaves could not be held for more than six years, Ex 21:2, unless they voluntarily chose to remain, Ex 21:5-6. Those who came into slavery with a wife and children could take them when they left. Those given a wife by their master, could not take her until her time was up. Slaves who were abused by their masters were to be set free, Ex 21:26-27. Their religious rights, were protected, Ex 20:10. Slaves had civil rights. The murder of a slave brought punishment, Ex 21:20. Foreign slaves seeking asylum in Israel were to be protected, Deut 23:15-16. Slaves had economic rights, including the right to own other slaves, 2 Sam 9:9-10. The nation had state slaves, similar to civil service employees, Josh 16:10; Judg 1:28; Ezra 8:20.

And while in our current day, people seem to pursue their creature comforts and pursuits of happiness, the work ethic seems to have faded into the background as some sort of necessary evil in order to maintain ones social pursuits.

However, Paul points out in these verses, that work is an honorable and necessary function in order to maintain ones spiritual growth and maturity.

While our first and foremost priority in life, is to advance to spiritual maturity, we are still a part of this world and as such must make a living using whatever talent or ability we have, through work, responsibility and accountability.

We are to work as unto the Lord, meaning that we are under constant evaluation before God, and our work and our effort and our motivations are always under review.

Whether you work on an assembly line, design rockets, or are a home parent, you have a responsibility to do your job and to do it well, and to do it to the best of your ability for your employer, no matter who that is.

You do not have an excuse or right for slacking off in your work, just because you are not interested, do not like your boss, or think that you are better than what you are doing.

God placed all people in the positions that they are in. You are no exception. You are there for a reason, and that reason is first to teach you obedience to your job, and responsibility to life and others.

By working well, and by being a Christian, you set an example for Christianity.

Remember that disinterested believers, and certainly unbelievers, have only your example with which to evaluate Christianity. And by setting a good example, you may very well influence others, even if only indirectly, in coming to Christ and/or doctrine.

People are not always saved or influenced by evangelism alone.

During your life, you will be watched by God and angels certainly, and family and friends to some extent, but what you do not know is that during your decades of living, you will be observed by many others whom you do not know, and in following a good work ethic, you may very well set into motion, infinite eternal blessings for others. And that is to your credit.

However the opposite is true as well, you could easily cause many to disregard God and doctrine, just because you are lazy or less than honorable in life. And that too goes to your discredit.

You will get a full accounting from Christ when you get to heaven. Lets hope that your scorecard is a good one.
