14 And [kai] to the woman [gune] were given [didomi] two [duo] wings [pterux] of a great [megas] eagle, [aetos] that [hina] she might fly [petomai] into [eis] the wilderness, [eremos] into [eis] her [autos] place, [topos] where [hopou] she is nourished [trepho] for a time [ekei], [kairos] and [kai] times, [kairos] and [kai] half [hemisu] a time, [kairos] from [apo] the face [prosopon] of the serpent. [ophis] KJV-Interlinear
14 And the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, in order that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she was nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. NASB
The two wings of a great eagle is symbolism for the logistics which God will provide in order to help the Jewish people to escape from the anti-christ, and survive in the wilderness for three-and-a-half-years.
Remember that the woman is symbolic for the nation of Israel, or more specifically, the Jews who have or will believe in Christ.
There are not going to be millions of eagles swopping down to snatch up people and carry them off into the mountains. Although that would be kind of a neat scene.
The imagery of the eagle and its wings comes from the Ex. 19:4, whereby God tells of the rescue of the people from Pharaoh. It is God who delivers the nation, not a bird. The eagle is a symbol for speed, flight, far sightedness, and protection, Isa 40:31, 2 Sam 22:11; Ps 18:10; 104:3, 32:9-11, Psa 17:8, 36:7, 57:1, 61:4, 63:7, 91:4.
Other than the reference to their destination in Dan. 11:41, the exact place that the Jews are to run to, is not revealed. When the time comes, they will simply know where to go. And God will provide for some miraculous event or method for their escape.
Likewise, since their escape will be into the mountains, thus separating them from the economies of the world, God will also provide some form of supplies for nourishing them during their hiding out period in the mountains during the three-and-a-half-years.
For anyone, that would be a very long time to hide out with absolutely no supplies. But somehow they will be able to gather or collect, or find food and water to keep them alive as well as hidden from the anti-christ and his forces.
The phrase, time and times and half a time reinforces the time table already mentioned in scripture, Dan. 7:25, Rev. 12:7, Matt. 24:21, Rev. 12:6, 11:2, 3, 13:5. This is a reference to a period of three-and-a-half-years and does not refer to 2500 years, or 3500 years, or some combination of days and nights or any number of other weird interpretations that have been made by others. The Bible is very clear and concise, and guessing or speculating is not necessary.
This further indicates that when the timing gets close to the vest, so to speak, and when there is absolutely no time at all to even think or plan, God has already made provision for those folks who will have to follow His command, by faith alone. They will have to go and go quickly, without anything but the clothes on their backs. God will provide for their needs for the next years to come, and despite their being under the most horrible conditions possible.
Remember our place here in the Tribulation. This is a future seven year period. At the mid-point Satan will be evicted from Heaven, and the anti-christ will bring an abomination to the temple. This will initiate the round up and killing of all Jews.
The signal to the Jewish peoples, is the abomination in the Temple. They are to run and run right now. Getting out of town without looking back, without going home first, without going to the store or whatever. The timing will be such that events will be unfolding rapidly and the forces of Satan will be racing furiously to gather up the Jews.
And this sets the stage for our study tomorrow.
