Psalm 27:5
5 For in the time [yowm] of trouble [ra`] he shall
hide [tsaphan] me in his pavilion [cok]: in the secret [cether] of
his tabernacle ['ohel] shall he hide [cathar] me; he shall set me up [ruwm] upon a rock [tsuwr]. KJV-Interlinear
5 For
in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place
of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. NASB
The term trouble is the
general term that refers to any and all and every kind of problem or difficulty
that exists in this world, and that can occur in your life.
From the day you were
born, throughout your entire life, you will experience all kinds of problems.
From health, to education, to your occupation, to your social life, to paying
your bills, all these things and many, many more kinds of problems in life will
always be in the shadows and constantly nagging at you.
This is the Devils world.
The very nature of this world is trouble. If there were no trouble or problems
or difficulties in this world, then we would be in heaven where those things do
not exist. But since we are here, then we are faced with, and burdened with all
sorts of difficulties and pressures that exist out there in the world.
God will hide us in his
pavilion. And that is a reference to his tabernacle, or the place where God
resides, and within that residence we, in effect, have fellowship, one-on-one
with God. This is simply a description of fellowship, which is obtained when
you confess your sins.
The secret of his
tabernacle, is the spiritual life. It does not exist for unbelievers. It only
exists for believers in Christ. And therefore, it is a secret, a thing that is
not revealed to the average person. Even believers to do not confess their sins
and therefore do not reside in fellowship with God, do not have access to this
functioning part of their spiritual life. They are in effect, off-line, or out
of sync with their spiritual life.
This secret thing, the
spiritual life, is spiritual, and therefore not detectable, not felt, not
measurable, not sensed, and has no manifestation with emotional or physical results. It is simply there.
To hide me, refers to
protection, security, maintenance, a shield. And within the spiritual life, and
when one is growing up spiritually speaking, then there is protection from the
world. Gods wall of fire protection.
This does not exclude you
from the difficulties of life. The difficulties of life have but one objective,
which is to derail you from your spiritual life, or destroy you altogether.
In the verse closes with,
set upon a rock.
And the rock is a
specific reference to Jesus Christ, but it is also a reference to the whole
concept of the spiritual life as God has designed it.
Faith in Christ begins
your spiritual life.
Once you have initially
believed in Christ, then the question for you is not whether or not to believe
in Christ, because you have already done that. The question now is, what are
you going to do with your spiritual life? And your obligation and
responsibility in life, is to grow up spiritually. That is Gods ultimate design
and plan for your life.
And spiritual growth
functions when you are in fellowship, which symbolically speaking means that
you are inside Gods tabernacle with him, in fellowship. It also means that you
have access to something that the rest of the world does not have access to,
namely the secret or the things that are revealed by God only to believers who
are in fellowship.
And once in fellowship,
once you are assimilating Bible doctrine and growing up in your spiritual life,
then your building for yourself, protection, a shield, a barrier that separates
you, and sets you apart, from the common carnal things of life in this world.
And that whole concept
refers to God and Gods plan, Christ and Christ’s work, doctrine and your
learning process of assimilating that doctrine within your soul, which
constructs within your soul the foundation, a fortress, a palace, the temple, a
completed and finished structure within your soul. And this all results in the
completion of you as a person.
