Psalm 7:12

Copyright Ó 2011 J. Neely
Psalm 7:12

12 If he turn [shuwb] not, he will whet [latash] his sword; [chereb] he hath bent [darak] his bow, [qesheth] and made it ready. [kuwn] KJV-Interlinear

12 If a man does not repent, He will sharpen His sword; He has bent His bow and made it ready. NASB

If the wicked person does not change his ways, then punishment is close behind.

The wicked is the unbeliever who has rejected or is indifferent toward salvation.

The wicked is the believer who lives their life, out of fellowship.

Both categories of wicked, are those who practice evil, sin, crime, self-righteousness, carnality, and so forth.  Both categories of wicked live their lives out of fellowship.  The believer by refusing to confess on a regular basis.  The unbeliever who lacks salvation and therefore by default does not have a spiritual life.

God is constantly ready moment by moment, continually ready to apply judgment or discipline, whichever is appropriate.

To whet the sword means to keep it in a state of being sharp.

To bend the bow, means to have it ready to fire.

Bow weapons are always kept in a state of readiness.  The sword is for those disciplines that are up close and personal.  The bow is for disciplines that are more distant.

In either case, the wicked individual is always in range of Gods weapons.  No one can escape.

You and your life are always under constant scrutiny, and God applies discipline and/or judgment as it is appropriate for you.

The individual who turns not, that is, does not change his ways (does not repent), then punishment is not far away.
