12 in order that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. NASB
And all of this which we have been studying, all of your life, all of your existence, all of your future, all of your self-value and worth, all of your whole purpose for being, and so forth, result and are a direct result of Christ in you.
And that simply means, that Christ, represented by doctrine, is inside of you, only when you learn it. The Bible is the mind of Christ. You have to learn it in order to understand it.
And for those skeptics, the Bible is more than just the begats, the life of Moses, the baby Jesus, etc. Anyone can read the Bible, even Satan knows it better than you.
But, the Bible content does not come alive within you until your spiritual life becomes functional.
Functional simply means that you have to grow up. That requires study, learning, understanding, and most important, all of this while living your life within the fellowship sphere. Fellowship is the sphere you live within when you confess your sins to God the Father. We have an extensive study of this subject in 1, 2, and 3rd John.
And by the way, this is the single biggest reason why most folks’ spiritual life, is non-functional, and therefore why they do not get the answers they seek in life, because they approach their spiritual life incorrectly.
Anyway, back to the begats, etc. Reading the scriptures is not going to make you grow up. You have to study and learn while living within the fellowship sphere, and when you do so, then the Holy Spirit, who you cannot feel or detect, operates the miracle of spiritual growth for you, by metabolizing spiritual food into your soul, and building for you, your very own spiritual fortress, temple, power within you.
That is, Christ in you.
And as for you in Christ. Then your completed life is a result of His work in your life, and Christ is due the credit for it all.
And all of this, and much more, is due to the grace of God. Grace means favor. And there is no one better in existence than God, from whom you can receive the greatest favor around. But that favor comes only through Jesus Christ and through no other source. For Christianity is not a religion, but a relationship with God (the Father), through Christ. This is the single most important attribute of Christianity that sets it apart from all other beliefs – Jesus Christ. He is the path to the Almighty.
Mans ability, mans effort, mans seeking credit and an equality with God is a phony concept and is all rejected in Gods plan. Only the work of Christ is efficacious. Mans work is arrogance, delusional, and self destructive.
Gods plan for your life will succeed.
Mans plan will never succeed. Just look at human history and the many problems that have never been solved. Man cannot even prevent his own death. Man cannot prevent sin. And, one day, in the Tribulation to come, history will demonstrate that man cannot prevent his own demise.
And they will scoff, and they will laugh, and they will ridicule, but what things better do they have to offer?

2 Thessalonians 1:11

11 Wherefore [eis] [hos] also [kai] we pray [proseuchomai] always [pantote] for [peri] you, [humon] that [hina] our [hemon] God [theos] would count [axioo] you [humas] worthy [axioo] of this calling, [klesis] and [kai] fulfil [pleroo] all [pas] the good pleasure [eudokia] of his goodness, [agathosune] and [kai] the work [ergon] of faith [pistis] with [en] power: [dunamis] KJV-Interlinear
11 To this end also we pray for you always that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power; NASB
‘To this end,’ refers to your preparation as a complete and total individual within the scope of your life, such that when you come face to face with the Lord, and with all of humanity for that matter, that you will be ready, and completely prepared for that future event.
In our Church Age, it has been estimated that nearly eighty-billion people have been born into this world. Some estimates of the world population back when Jesus was born, put that population at around three-hundred million people.
At the year 1000 A.D. the population estimate was around four-hundred million. Not much of an increase in total, however with an average lifespan in the low twenties of years, the entire population would have turned over several times during that first millennia A.D. And if you factor in an infant mortality rate of between fifty and seventy percent, then huge numbers of people would have been born into life, even if they did not live very long.
The next millennia saw the population dramatically increase in the latter part, reaching one-billion around 1802, two-billion in 1927, three-billion in 1961, four-billion in 1974, five-billion in 1987, six-billion in 1999, and we are now over seven-billion in 2009, and the population is increasing at an ever growing rate.
But, when you factor in infant mortality and wars, then the total population of people who have been born alive into this world, just within our own dispensation, is staggering.
Since we know from our study of David’s loss of his first baby, that infants or the helpless that have not reached an age of accountability, that die, go to heaven automatically, then it could be that easily two-thirds of all folks born in our dispensation will be standing before the Lord, in that future day. That is a lot of folks standing in one assembly. And our dispensation is not over yet.
Add to their numbers, all of the angels in heaven and the number will certainly be beyond comprehension.
Now, so what, of all of these numbers.
Well, your objective is to be prepared in life such you will be complete and ready and honorable and worthy of standing before this assembly.
Would it be better to stand before such group, embarrassed, unprepared, a total failure in life?
Or would it be better to stand before such an assembly, honored, complete, prepared, worthy of the highest honorable mention from Christ Himself?
And we have that here.
Pauls prayer, which should be yours and certainly is one of my prayers, that you and each and every believer will get their heads together, will study with a genuine desire to advance in their spiritual life, will learn with legitimate objectivity and not with emotional enticements or distractions, and advance in each persons own personal spiritual life to spiritual maturity.
With the objective, and here is the kicker, that your every desire (ponder this one for a minute), so that your every desire, which goes beyond your ability to imagine, will be fulfilled, in truth, in goodness, and as a result of faith.
What is faith? It is the ultimate result of your spiritual advance to maturity.
A mature person is not an immature person. A mature person is responsible, objective, poised, kind, thoughtful, tolerant, and much more. A mature person thinks because he possesses the resources from his learning, with which to think. And that learning is a result of your daily study of the scriptures.
It is not in singing songs, not in shouting and jumping up and down, not in riding emotional rollercoaster's, although those things can be fun, but learning is paramount to ones growth. And learning requires the intake of information, in a classroom or academic or study style environment. It requires the taking of notes, of review, of memorization, of thought, about what it is you are learning. And then using it in your daily life.
This develops faith, and over the course of time, your growth will maximize your faith such that when the difficult times in life, enter into your life, then power, or the power of your faith will help you ride through those hard times.
Power here is ‘dunamis,’ which means power certainly, but this is a power that represents a force adequate enough to hold a thing in its place.
God uses power to hold the universe in its place. God uses power to hold your salvation in its place. This same power is available to you, through doctrine, to hold, to secure your faith.
This power of God, which we have access to through our spiritual growth, through doctrine, is sufficient enough to make our individual lives complete, and will prepare us for the next phenomenal event (Biblical style), in history.
How could you possibly ignore this opportunity for your life?
2 Tim. 2:15
15 Study, to show thyself approved [mature] unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing [discerning] the word of truth.

10 when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed — for our testimony to you was believed. NASB
In that future day, for the very first time in history, the believers of our Church Age will see the destruction of evil, the existence of everyone else, the vast population of angels, not to mention the magnitude of the appearance of Christ.
And all of this will be so overwhelming that the word for marvel or admiration will be inadequate to describe our emotions.
All through history, the world has rejected God, Christ, doctrine and believers in general. Believers have been look down upon as the dregs of the earth.
Few in number in any given generation, and spread across the planet, and frowned upon, constantly denied their rightful claim to the blessings of the earth in this life, it is difficult to see the object of faith, in tangible terms.
But there will come a time, when all unbelievers will be removed from our presence, and we will see not only the glory of the Lord standing before us in literal and physical form, but here Paul describes not His appearance nor His power, as being the source of this particular glory, but His accomplishments.
First, the plan, then the execution of that plan, then the dealings with evil and the opposition of Satan and Satan patterns of unbelief, ridicule, and rejection, which have brought severe sufferings to people and especially to believers throughout history. Then the Cross and the salvation promised long ago and fulfilled in spite of overwhelming opposition. Then the burdens of our lives lifted, the doctrine supplied, the opportunity for spiritual growth and production within our individual lives. The loss of our loved ones. The hardships that we all must face in this life. And this list goes on and on.
Then our individual deaths, for those who will or have died prior to the Rapture, and then the Rapture itself, and the Judgment Seat of Christ, the Wedding Feast, and then the Second Advent.
All of this will be overwhelming and convincing proof of our faith, when we will finally see our loved ones, when we will see all believers from all of the past centuries, and so forth, and then (even before then), but certainly then, when all evil is eradicated as far as the Second Advent goes, and the entire scene will place glory where it belongs, in Christ, because all believers standing there will be proof, of His ultimate success and accomplishments.
God has a phenomenal plan for your life. Don’t mess it up by indifference or apathy or rejection of that which you cannot see today, for certainly as you live and breathe, one day you will see it all.
And certainly you will not want the embarrassment of having ignored your spiritual life and preparation for eternity, now, but will want to be ready and complete in your life, for a far better eternal life to come.

9 Who [hostis] shall be punished [dike] [tino] with everlasting [aionios] destruction [olethros] from [apo] the presence [prosopon] of the Lord, [kurios] and [kai] from [apo] the glory [doxa] of his [autos] power; [ischus] KJV-Interlinear
9 And these will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, NASB
The word here for destruction, ‘olethros,’ is a different word than used in Matt. 25:46, and which means punishment.
Here, destruction is an ongoing destruction, a never ending destruction. And that is what awaits those who reject Christ, entirely from their soul, unbelievers in other words (those who have never believed in Christ).
At the time of the Second Advent, and our topic in this verse is the Second Advent not the Rapture, for no destruction occurs at the Rapture, however, when the Second Advent occurs, the second most violent event (out of three) will occur.
The first was in the Flood of Noah, when many millions drowned in what most certainly was terror to those who died.
The second major violent event occurs at the Second Advent, when the entire world population then remaining, most likely billions, will die. Just a very few mature believers will be rescued and live into the Millennium.
And the third and final most violent world event will occur at the end of the Millennium, when Satan is released from his 1000 year imprisonment and all unbelievers will be stood before the Great White Throne of judgment and cast into the Lake of Fire.
And it is at this final event that the prophecy here stated, will actually occur.
At the Second Advent all unbelievers will die and be thrown into the temporary holding cell called Torments. Torments, is one of four underworld compartments. The underworld is called Hades. And in Torments is where all unbelievers from history are held in captivity.
Those who reject Christ through unbelief, have a destiny. And that destiny is eternal and never ending destruction.
And as we stated, destruction here is not a thing that is destroyed and then it is over, as with a building that is burned down, a ship which is sunk and then it is simply lost, and such things. But here, the destruction indicates the ongoing process of destruction.
I could use as an example, being forced to listen to rap music, where it never ends and you have to listen and listen and you scream and hold your hands over your ears but it does no good. But then there might actually be people out there who are believers and like rap music. So enough of my humor!!
This ongoing destruction is of course far, far worse. It is an eternal separation from God and that is the worst possible situation for anyone to find themselves.
God holds the universe and all things together by His own power and sovereignty and more. When God is not present, then nothing is held together. So when unbelievers go into the Lake of Fire, there, God will not be. And since man nor angel, cannot hold together anything, then there will be in their lives, eternal horror.
The Lake of Fire is elsewhere described in the Bible and I have a special study on the Lake of Fire, on the web site, for your review when you have the chance.
This is not a pretty picture for unbelievers, and you certainly would not wish to participate in it.
If, however, you have already believed in Christ, then you are saved, you are born again, and that is something that cannot be undone. You cannot undo your birth, you cannot undo your re-birth, and you cannot cancel out a belief in Christ, once you have made it. Once saved, always saved. Salvation depends on Christ’s work on the Cross, never on your work or efforts or failures.
This eternal destruction is often called the second death. And be assured that believers do not participate in the second death. For with believers in Christ, there will never be a second death, never, ever. But only heaven and eternal glory and happiness and so forth.
When we studied Colossians, we studied ‘your story,’ the ‘song of your life.’ The things that give you meaning and purpose.
When we studied 1 Thessalonians, we studied the concept of waiting. And though they, and we all, are waiting for the next great event of history, the Rapture, our priority in life is to prepare ourselves for the next life, not to sit around doing nothing and waiting for something that may not occur for another generation or so. Our priority is to define and design our next life. We do that through advancement to spiritual maturity, by means of our daily study of the scriptures.
And now we are in 2 Thessalonians, where the subject is sin. And yes, there is going to be a reference to the Rapture, but more important, there is going to be a description of society in the days (or generations) leading up to the Rapture. And namely that will be the phenomenal disillusionment of the world which has rejected truth.
And this nation, which has probably become the greatest nation in history, and has gone and elected the most incompetent and disillusioned government in history, is our best contemporary good example of this concept.
Not just the rejection of Christ, but the rejection of truth, which is the guiding and fundamental principle that establishes and stabilizes life for society. But without truth, there will never be a stable society. And without doctrine, there can never be an understanding of truth.
It is for those folks, who reject truth, and God and Christ and doctrine and so forth, that this destruction is waiting on the horizon.
In the mean time we will all suffer to some degree. And during this time of truth rejection, even believers in Christ will get caught up in the disillusionment of the lies of the world, because they reject their daily studies and imitate the thoughts and actions of unbelievers.
But as for you, if you get your head together, if you get with a daily study program, if you get over whatever it is that keeps you from a daily study, then there is a life waiting for you, by Gods personal design specifically for you, that is beyond your imagination.

9 And these will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, NASB
The word here for destruction, ‘olethros,’ is a different word than used in Matt. 25:46, and which means punishment.
Here, destruction is an ongoing destruction, a never ending destruction. And that is what awaits those who reject Christ, entirely from their soul, unbelievers in other words (those who have never believed in Christ).
At the time of the Second Advent, and our topic in this verse is the Second Advent not the Rapture, for no destruction occurs at the Rapture, however, when the Second Advent occurs, the second most violent event (out of three) will occur.
The first was in the Flood of Noah, when many millions drowned in what most certainly was terror to those who died.
The second major violent event occurs at the Second Advent, when the entire world population then remaining, most likely billions, will die. Just a very few mature believers will be rescued and live into the Millennium.
And the third and final most violent world event will occur at the end of the Millennium, when Satan is released from his 1000 year imprisonment and all unbelievers will be stood before the Great White Throne of judgment and cast into the Lake of Fire.
And it is at this final event that the prophecy here stated, will actually occur.
At the Second Advent all unbelievers will die and be thrown into the temporary holding cell called Torments. Torments, is one of four underworld compartments. The underworld is called Hades. And in Torments is where all unbelievers from history are held in captivity.
Those who reject Christ through unbelief, have a destiny. And that destiny is eternal and never ending destruction.
And as we stated, destruction here is not a thing that is destroyed and then it is over, as with a building that is burned down, a ship which is sunk and then it is simply lost, and such things. But here, the destruction indicates the ongoing process of destruction.
I could use as an example, being forced to listen to rap music, where it never ends and you have to listen and listen and you scream and hold your hands over your ears but it does no good. But then there might actually be people out there who are believers and like rap music. So enough of my humor!!
This ongoing destruction is of course far, far worse. It is an eternal separation from God and that is the worst possible situation for anyone to find themselves.
God holds the universe and all things together by His own power and sovereignty and more. When God is not present, then nothing is held together. So when unbelievers go into the Lake of Fire, there, God will not be. And since man nor angel, cannot hold together anything, then there will be in their lives, eternal horror.
The Lake of Fire is elsewhere described in the Bible and I have a special study on the Lake of Fire, on the web site, for your review when you have the chance.
This is not a pretty picture for unbelievers, and you certainly would not wish to participate in it.
If, however, you have already believed in Christ, then you are saved, you are born again, and that is something that cannot be undone. You cannot undo your birth, you cannot undo your re-birth, and you cannot cancel out a belief in Christ, once you have made it. Once saved, always saved. Salvation depends on Christ’s work on the Cross, never on your work or efforts or failures.
This eternal destruction is often called the second death. And be assured that believers do not participate in the second death. For with believers in Christ, there will never be a second death, never, ever. But only heaven and eternal glory and happiness and so forth.
When we studied Colossians, we studied ‘your story,’ the ‘song of your life.’ The things that give you meaning and purpose.
When we studied 1 Thessalonians, we studied the concept of waiting. And though they, and we all, are waiting for the next great event of history, the Rapture, our priority in life is to prepare ourselves for the next life, not to sit around doing nothing and waiting for something that may not occur for another generation or so. Our priority is to define and design our next life. We do that through advancement to spiritual maturity, by means of our daily study of the scriptures.
And now we are in 2 Thessalonians, where the subject is sin. And yes, there is going to be a reference to the Rapture, but more important, there is going to be a description of society in the days (or generations) leading up to the Rapture. And namely that will be the phenomenal disillusionment of the world which has rejected truth.
And this nation, which has probably become the greatest nation in history, and has gone and elected the most incompetent and disillusioned government in history, is our best contemporary good example of this concept.
Not just the rejection of Christ, but the rejection of truth, which is the guiding and fundamental principle that establishes and stabilizes life for society. But without truth, there will never be a stable society. And without doctrine, there can never be an understanding of truth.
It is for those folks, who reject truth, and God and Christ and doctrine and so forth, that this destruction is waiting on the horizon.
In the mean time we will all suffer to some degree. And during this time of truth rejection, even believers in Christ will get caught up in the disillusionment of the lies of the world, because they reject their daily studies and imitate the thoughts and actions of unbelievers.
But as for you, if you get your head together, if you get with a daily study program, if you get over whatever it is that keeps you from a daily study, then there is a life waiting for you, by Gods personal design specifically for you, that is beyond your imagination.

8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. NASB
The terms, fire taking vengeance, and retribution, here indicate the certainty of the judgment of God against all those who reject Him, and against all those who disobey Him.
Those who reject, is a reference to the unbelieving world. Those who disobey are those who have believed but have become indifferent or apathetic or simply have greater fear of the forces of the world than of God. This also refers to those (Jews), who have known or should have a working knowledge of God, but have rejected His plan (namely the savior through Jesus Christ).
Vengeance and retribution have one additional connotation, and that is of violence – extreme violence. And more than violence, but violence that is accompanied with extreme terror and horror.
Why is that?
Because God gave us all a beautiful world and that world is supported by truth, and blossoms as a result of truth. The Garden of Eden is the best example. But sin entered into the picture, and arrogance of man brought destruction to something that was beautiful.
For well over 6000 years humanity has been running the world into the ground, and no Virginia, we are not talking about your pet topics of environmentalism, or global warming, or things of that nature, we are taking of the rejection of fundamental Biblical principles such as marriage, free enterprise, freedom, liberty, justice, rights to privacy and happiness pursuits, and choice and such things.
Today the world is being driven by a fanaticism of liberal political views, which are seeking to globalize governments and restrict the individuals’ freedoms and choices. And these things, combined with the compromise of social standards and the general rejection of spiritual truths, are driving the world to its ultimate appointment with judgment.
Today, you are alive. Today you have the choice to either get with a Biblical study and learn truth, or you can choose to reject all of this Bible stuff and go your own way, pursuing your own self defined beliefs.
Remember, Paul is going to outline some of the events that will be fundamental to the ends times. One of those events is the general spiritually negative views of society. Most folks will reject doctrine and most folks will adhere to their own personal beliefs. And wrong beliefs at that.
Then, one day, the Rapture will occur. Prior to that the general view will be, ‘When will it occur? Haven’t we waited long enough? Maybe God forgot!’ And so indifference and scoffing and doubt will rise.
And when it does finally occur, then folks will miss out on the greatest event of all of history. The Rapture of the Royal Family, and the greatest wedding feast (to follow), of all time.
Those left behind will have only seven years of horror, and definitely no peace to deal with, as the entire world will suffer horrendously.
And then, the horror will only get worse as the return of Christ, at the Second Advent, will have people cringing with fear that causes uncontrollable shaking.
Psa. 97:3
3 Fire goes before Him, And burns up His adversaries round about. NASB
Rev. 19:21
21 And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat upon the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh. NASB
In your life you are faced with one unchangeable truth. One day you are going to leave this world.
The only question is, ‘Are you going to obey God and prepare yourself through doctrine, for the next life, or are you going to do nothing?’
There is only one way to prepare for life and that is through a daily study of Bible doctrine. There is no other source of preparation material anywhere in the world. There is nothing else that will give to you, completeness, meaning and purpose in your life.

7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, NASB
As we stated yesterday, the Lord (who is Jesus Christ), will be coming back to this earth. There are two more visits on the calendar of future events. The first is the Rapture. That date is set in heaven, but unknown to humanity.
With the Rapture, Christ will descend into the clouds, not to the ground, and call out His people (all believers from the Church Age, both alive when the Rapture occurs, and those who have already died during the history of our dispensation).
That event will be a very private event as far as the world is concerned, but a very public and wonderful event as far as believers are concerned.
Then there will be the Second Advent. But quickly recall the timetable of these events.
Currently we are living within our dispensation, which is often called the Church Age. It is also referred to as the Age of the Royal Family, or the Age of the Bride of Christ. These are all synonymous terms describing the various attributes of our dispensation as set apart from other dispensations in history.
Our dispensation began with the giving of the Holy Spirit at the Feast of Pentecost, which occurred fifty days after the Feast of Passover, which was the event of the Cross, over 1900 years ago.
Our dispensation ends with the Rapture, wherein all believers from our dispensation, will receive their (our) resurrection.
Note, that all unbelievers will remain on this earth for approximately seven more years and will live through the most horrifying set of events that will ever come to pass in human history. We call that seven year period the Tribulation.
At the end of the Tribulation, will occur the Second Advent of Christ, it is this event of which Paul is now speaking in our current verse.
The word for revealed, ‘apokalupsis,’ means apocalypse or the Day of the Lord, or the Day of Judgment. This will be the most violent moment, and literally it will last but for only a moment, in history, as the Lord will destroy all evil in a single fell swoop with the power of His will. This does not occur at the Rapture.
And so, Paul is saying to you, although your life may not be what you have wanted it to be, may not be what you dreamed it should be, may seem like all of the good and fun of life are going to those who do not deserve it, but then there is going to come a time when all will be set right.
Those (evil) who do not deserve what they have, will in fact receive that (judgment) which they do deserve.
Those (mature believers) who do not receive that which they should deserve (fun and blessings), will receive much beyond their imagination, which they certainly do not deserve (it is a gift from God), but will receive anyway.
There is going to be a judgment. There is going to be a reward.
Today, most folks ignore the truth of what is to come. Most folks reject God, Christ, doctrine, and their spiritual life. Most folks live within their own self defined rules and standards, generated from political or popular or personal views, and that is exactly why the world is heading downhill, but nobody sees the crash which is just ahead. And that is why, there is going to be a history as laid out by God, and of which Paul is going to paint the picture for us, very soon in this letter.
But first we have to understand the purpose of this letter, which is ‘sin.’
Why sin? Because the next prophetic event would never occur if sin were not the issue. But unfortunately the world is going to be overwhelmed by all manner of sin, and not realize it. Or better stated, it won’t care.
Remember that sin is a broad concept, and not restricted to crimes or gossips, but in fact the sins of arrogance will drive politics, celebrityship, social standards, and the thought patterns of nearly everyone on the planet, one day.
In Noah’s day, how many people boarded the Ark? Only eight. And out of a whole world population which could have easily numbered in the millions or even hundreds of millions. Paul is going to describe a very similar world, pattern wise, in our future. But first we need to finish painting the picture before we can see it.
When that day of apocalypse comes, then rest will come for all believers. Rest here is one that represents a person who has been doing very hard work for a very long time and finally is able to set down and rest. A hardship or toil or pressure which is finally completed or has run its course, and the burden is permanently lifted.
That is the rest, or a better rest, which awaits you now when you advance to spiritual maturity, and especially when that future date of judgment arrives.

6 For after all it is only just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, NASB
One day in the future, there will be a judgment. Whether you believe it or not, is irrelevant. Unfortunately too many folks do not believe in the judgment from God, simply because there doesn’t seem to be any judgment against the wicked, now.
And, even worse, too many folks have no clue as to just what evil really is. They do not realize that they are an integral part of evil, but see themselves as nice and pleasant, and reasonable.
Rather than examining the scriptures by means of a daily study, in order to really know what truth is or is not, folks simply reject the Bible, and take the word of the news media, of politicians, of celebrities, of the lyrics of some popular song, and so forth, and use those ideas to form their beliefs and lifestyle.
This leads to all manner of compromise of Biblical principles, to all sorts of anti-truth philosophies, to crusades, to radical practices, to activist pursuits attempting to force standards or beliefs on society, not to mention crime, tyranny, or alternative lifestyles that become an acceptable norm in society.
Evil does not belong only to the bad guy with the beady eyes and the scar on the face, but most of the worlds evil comes from the do-gooders, the crusaders, the activists, the ones who wish to force their standards onto everyone, and thus causing the suffering and trouble that we all have to deal with in life.
Long ago, the world went from the Garden to the Flood in a little over 1600 years. The nation of Israel went from its all time spiritual high under Solomon, into devastation in just a few hundred years. But in our current day, those centuries over which time, changes occurred, are now measured in decades. Changes occur more rapidly now, than ever before.
And as changes and evil develop more rapidly now, the day of Gods judgment advances on humanity more rapidly. However, people still disregard the idea of judgment, just as they disregard Gods role in history. And thus, the spiritual state of the world diminishes.
There are far too many things to occupy our time and attention. Bible study just is not one of the priorities of most folks. If you are not pursuing a daily study of the Bible, if you are not current on your confession of sin to God the Father, if you do not reside within the fellowship sphere, if you do not even know what that is, then you are a part of the problem, and judgment is on the calendar specifically for you. You just do not realize it or you don’t care, or you don’t believe it applies to you.
But because there is evil, because there is self-righteousness, because there is a definite lack of humility, because there exists a spiritually dysfunctional society, then judgment is right, is necessary and will occur.
One day you will leave this world. One day you will either die, or be taken away in the Rapture, or you will be left behind (if you are an unbeliever), and the shock of truth will hit you right between the eyes, so to speak. But it will be too late for you to change once you have left this world.
While you are alive here and now, your opportunity to pursue your spiritual life, in accordance with Gods design (not yours), is readily available. You just have to begin and continue your daily studies, and realize that your ideas are most likely wrong and Gods ideas are right. And, it is you who has to change, not God.
And, realize with certainty, that there will be a judgment just as there will be a reward, the question is, ‘In which line will you be standing?’
Life is a serious matter. The judgment to come is serious just as the rewards to come are serious. They both will affect your entire eternal life. Indifference, jokes, scoffing and such will not get you on track in your life. Only a dedicated and genuine desire to learn Gods truth will get your life together, making you a whole and complete person, with meaning and purpose.

One day in the future, there will be a judgment. Whether you believe it or not, is irrelevant. Unfortunately too many folks do not believe in the judgment from God, simply because there doesn’t seem to be any judgment against the wicked, now.
And, even worse, too many folks have no clue as to just what evil really is. They do not realize that they are an integral part of evil, but see themselves as nice and pleasant, and reasonable.
Rather than examining the scriptures by means of a daily study, in order to really know what truth is or is not, folks simply reject the Bible, and take the word of the news media, of politicians, of celebrities, of the lyrics of some popular song, and so forth, and use those ideas to form their beliefs and lifestyle.
This leads to all manner of compromise of Biblical principles, to all sorts of anti-truth philosophies, to crusades, to radical practices, to activist pursuits attempting to force standards or beliefs on society, not to mention crime, tyranny, or alternative lifestyles that become an acceptable norm in society.
Evil does not belong only to the bad guy with the beady eyes and the scar on the face, but most of the worlds evil comes from the do-gooders, the crusaders, the activists, the ones who wish to force their standards onto everyone, and thus causing the suffering and trouble that we all have to deal with in life.
Long ago, the world went from the Garden to the Flood in a little over 1600 years. The nation of Israel went from its all time spiritual high under Solomon, into devastation in just a few hundred years. But in our current day, those centuries over which time, changes occurred, are now measured in decades. Changes occur more rapidly now, than ever before.
And as changes and evil develop more rapidly now, the day of Gods judgment advances on humanity more rapidly. However, people still disregard the idea of judgment, just as they disregard Gods role in history. And thus, the spiritual state of the world diminishes.
There are far too many things to occupy our time and attention. Bible study just is not one of the priorities of most folks. If you are not pursuing a daily study of the Bible, if you are not current on your confession of sin to God the Father, if you do not reside within the fellowship sphere, if you do not even know what that is, then you are a part of the problem, and judgment is on the calendar specifically for you. You just do not realize it or you don’t care, or you don’t believe it applies to you.
But because there is evil, because there is self-righteousness, because there is a definite lack of humility, because there exists a spiritually dysfunctional society, then judgment is right, is necessary and will occur.
One day you will leave this world. One day you will either die, or be taken away in the Rapture, or you will be left behind (if you are an unbeliever), and the shock of truth will hit you right between the eyes, so to speak. But it will be too late for you to change once you have left this world.
While you are alive here and now, your opportunity to pursue your spiritual life, in accordance with Gods design (not yours), is readily available. You just have to begin and continue your daily studies, and realize that your ideas are most likely wrong and Gods ideas are right. And, it is you who has to change, not God.
And, realize with certainty, that there will be a judgment just as there will be a reward, the question is, ‘In which line will you be standing?’
Life is a serious matter. The judgment to come is serious just as the rewards to come are serious. They both will affect your entire eternal life. Indifference, jokes, scoffing and such will not get you on track in your life. Only a dedicated and genuine desire to learn Gods truth will get your life together, making you a whole and complete person, with meaning and purpose.

5 This is a plain indication of God's righteous judgment so that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering. NASB
The word for token, ‘endeigma,’ means proof.
The suffering that Christians must endure in life, come from all sorts of circumstances. Suffering is not limited to medical problems, or handicap problems, or emotional problems, or economic, or prejudicial problems. But suffering in this world comes from the world’s rejection of God, and of truth.
Whether you have practical experience in suffering, whether your suffering is direct, whether your suffering is indirect, is all irrelevant. You receive no merit from whatever brand of suffering that is real or imagined in your life.
Gods policy is truth. Satans policy is evil. The world is a symbolic term referencing the environment in which Satans policy is functioning. The world is often referred to as the carnal or temporal or physical realm. Gods realm is the spiritual realm.
Thus the world is symbolism for an environment which operates outside of and with total disregard to, Gods truth.
Gods truth is more than simply believing in Christ, it includes the many sciences such as mathematics and physics and chemistry and so forth. God invented the universe and all of the laws or rules that run it. But truth also includes the many principles which govern society, such as the laws of divine establishment (volition, marriage, family, nationalism, free enterprise, economic principles, law by due process, freedom through military victory, and so forth).
For every principle of truth, there is an equal and opposite principle or group of lies, opposing truth. All of these opposing viewpoints, present confusion and ambiguity in society. The only way to sort it all out is through a knowledge of truth. Thus discernment, or the ability to see the difference between the lies of life and the truth of life, is through an understanding of Bible doctrine.
When society adopts truth, then blessings result. When society adopts lies, then suffering results in the many forms of prejudice, unfairness, crimes, sins, difficulties in life, etc., etc., etc. Suffering is a broad term which applies to all of humanity, whether rich or poor, regardless of color or culture, talent of lack of it.
And because the world operates with an unfair script, then judgment by God is inevitable. Evil and the suffering that accompanies it, will not go on forever, but will one day, be ended by God.
You, as a believer living in this world are living proof, ‘endeigma,’ that judgment will come and all suffering will cease.
By understanding that this is the devils world, that evil rules, that society has an inclination toward evil and therefore is generally anti-God, then suffering is inevitable for your life. God does not bring evil and suffering upon you, but God sustains you through the circumstances that you will meet, while He allows you to grow up in your spiritual life and develop your faith to the maximum.
Now, in some things you do not have to experience them in order to know how they will end, like falling off the top of a ten story building. But in the spiritual life, experiences in suffering are required in order for you to gain an understanding of how the world works, without God in it. This helps you to build up an empathy for others, an understanding of evil, and certainly helps you to grow up in your spiritual life.
Those who blame God because of their sufferings, fall prey to the trickery of the world.
Those who adhere to their faith through doctrine, gain a status of ‘worthy,’ ‘spiritually esteemed,’ ‘good and faithful servant,’ and their afflictions, while not earning reward, make one qualified for reward because of your faith.
You cannot work your way into heaven. You cannot earn your way into heaven. You cannot bring suffering upon yourself in order to prove your worthiness. Human works, human efforts have no value whatsoever.
Only Gods work has value, intrinsic value. Mans efforts stop at the cross and Gods grace rules from that point on.
Your suffering exists because you live in the devils world. Your worth exists because, and only because, of the doctrine resident in your soul.

4 therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure. NASB
When Daniel was visited by the angel, he was told that in heaven he was highly esteemed. And so too, Paul indicates that there were those in Thessalonica who were well regarded.
As with Daniel, so too those folks in Thessalonica were well respected, not because of who they were, not respected because of their personable attributes, not respected because of their wealth or social status or talents or attainments in this world, but they were well respected because of their faith, and their ability to stay with their faith, even in the midst of the difficult times they had to live with, in their day.
When one is successful, talented, popular and so forth, it is very easy to be polite or even generous with your time and attention.
However, when your life is falling apart, when you fall on hard times, when the world has seemingly abandoned you to the dogs, then holding on to your once personable personality is difficult, let alone your faith.
In difficult times, it is very easy to blame others, become angry, become disillusioned, even blame God for your predicament. ‘Why me?’
And certainly without a daily Bible study, your spiritual resources will be lacking and your orientation to life will lead you in the wrong direction.
Only with a commitment to a daily study, can you realize that it is not God who is after you, but the world who is trying to get you away from God and His plan for your life.
Daniel had a reputation. The Thessalonians had a reputation. And their reputations had nothing to do with worldly talents or accomplishments.
They had faith in their life, and a faith that was not blind, but powered by Bible doctrine in their souls.
Faith is not a wish and a roll of the dice. True faith is developed through learning truth and is aided by the correct orientation to life with confidence.
Knowledge of God through doctrine, builds up understanding, and application of that understanding builds up confidence, and confidence builds up wisdom and certainty, and that in turn builds up faith.
The circumstances of life in this world are full of uncertainties and hopelessness because the world cannot guarantee success or happiness, or anything else. By itself, the world can offer you nothing. The Bible calls it vanity or emptiness or nothingness.
However, the spiritual life originates from God, and in God there is certainty, because God is able to do what He wills, and to fulfill all of His promises. God has endless power, endless sovereignty, endless resources, endless authority, endless ability, and more. Moses was told when he asked Gods name, ‘I Am,’ which stands for infinite resources. All of Gods attributes are infinite, and therefore the tripling of the response so indicates the cohesiveness and infinity of the Godhead.
Therefore, in doctrine there is the revealing of Gods endless abilities, which He places at your disposal, through faith.
No, God is not a genie. No, God is not going to grant your wishes. But yes, God will advance you to spiritual maturity and advanced wisdom, such that your faith will be second to none, and your spiritual perseverance will not falter when the world attempts to cause you to lose your faith by blasting you with an endless stream of problems.
The world has nothing to offer you, but God has everything to offer.
The world cannot offer you true esteem, only empty and temporary accolades.
True respect, true reputations come only from heaven, which is the only place that they will count for anything, and be permanent.

3 We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater; NASB
All thanks for anything in life, is owing, even obligated from us, toward God, who is the source of all things good and true.
The faith which develops within people, comes only from doctrine learned, understood and applied in their lives. This doctrine, comes from God alone and from no other source.
Life’s experiences, personal achievements, luck or hustle, even your own intellectual abilities to figure things out, are not a source of wisdom, if doctrine is excluded. Many are the plans of man, but all are nothing more than foolishness when truth is excluded.
Faith grows from knowledge of Bible doctrine. Faith develops from ones advancement toward spiritual maturity.
And while the world and the carnal life is obsessed with the perceptions of the five senses for orientation to life, the spiritual life uses something, faith, which has no measurable or detectable object, and yet faith is the greater.
All blessing comes to humanity from God. All blessing comes to humanity through Christ. All blessing comes to humanity through mature believers. All blessing comes to humanity by means of their association with believers who live on planet earth.
With greater spiritual growth, comes greater faith, comes greater blessing from God, and that benefits us all weather directly or indirectly.
Therefore, everything that we are and have, comes to us from God and it is to Him that we owe our thanks for our entire existence.

2 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. NASB
Grace means favor and peace means prosperity, and there is only one source of true prosperity and favor and that is from God the Father.
However, humanity does not have direct access to the Father, since the plan of the Father requires that man approach Him through the Son, Jesus Christ.
That is the single and biggest difference that sets Christianity apart, from all other beliefs, religions, philosophies and so forth.
All non-Christian approaches to God, seek direct access to the Father, or some other similar deity or concept, based on human attributes alone. That is to say, man by means of mans efforts can gain access and approval from God.
Christianity however discounts mans efforts as being no more valuable than the arrogance that creates mans efforts, which means that mans efforts have no value whatsoever. Therefore, the emphasis is on Gods efforts, specifically that of Christ, who went to the Cross and paid the debt of mans sins, in behalf of mankind.
So the fundamental principle of Christianity is faith in God (the Father), through Christ.
The fundamental rejection of this plan is rejection of Christ, in mans attempt to approach the Father directly. Man in his arrogance, presumes that he is capable of overcoming his weakness and flaws himself, and therefore God should accept him.
The ultimate objective of life is gaining the favor from the highest authority and power, in heaven and the universe. Favor means gaining the perks and benefits of having a relationship with someone who has unlimited resources and wealth and power. God is of course the best connection that anyone can possibly have.
Possessing the favor of God means that you have entered into the proprietary club, as it were, where believers only are eligible for the blessings that He has to give. As you advance in your spiritual life, these blessings grow exponentially with your growth.
The result is peace, which means prosperity, security, happiness, contentment, meaning and fulfillment in ones life, and all of these kinds of things.
Grace and peace come only from God the Father. Grace and peace come only through Jesus Christ. Grace and peace, come only within the framework of Christianity, and increase dramatically with spiritual growth.

Grace means favor and peace means prosperity, and there is only one source of true prosperity and favor and that is from God the Father.
However, humanity does not have direct access to the Father, since the plan of the Father requires that man approach Him through the Son, Jesus Christ.

Taking the opening paragraphs from our 1 Thess. 1:1 study, Paul means, small or little. Silvanus means, who loves the forest. And Silvanus often times called Silas means, three. Timothy means, honor of God, valued of God.
The story of the Thessalonians is found in Acts 17. When Paul was there, a rebellion caused him to leave that city. Silas and Timothy were sent back to preserve and maintain that starting church and later they returned to Paul.
It was upon this occasion of good news that they brought to Paul, that the first letter of encouragement was written to the Thessalonian Church.
This second letter was written not too long after the first, perhaps even within the same year, and while the subject of the first letter is ‘waiting,’ the subject of this second letter is ‘sin.’
Upon receiving the first letter, the Thessalonians apparently got the idea that the Rapture was to occur very soon, even within their own lifetime. Therefore, they were divesting themselves of their worldly possessions in preparation of that great event.
Of course, nowhere in the Bible is anyone ever commanded to give up all of their worldly possessions, let alone give them up in anticipation of some prophetic event.
So, Paul writes this second letter, explaining to the Thessalonians, and to us all for that matter, that there will be those who would deceive you out of your money and possessions, for their own selfish and criminal agenda.
But of course you cannot be deceived if you know the facts, and you can only be deceived if you don’t.
And so Paul sets out to explain some of the various circumstances that must take place prior to the end times, as well as circumstances that will exist in the end times. Namely the conversion of the gentiles to Christianity worldwide, and the great apostasy that will occur as the end times approach, just to name a couple of examples.

Introduction
Possibly the first letters written by Paul, Thessalonians was written in the early 50’s A.D.
Thessalonica was an ancient city, named after the daughter of King Philip, father of Alexander the Great. The former name of the city was Thermae, which was defeated by Philip in his victory over the Thessalians.
Thessalonica was located on the coast, a seaport in today’s eastern Greece and remained so until conquered in the 1400’s by the Turks
The story of the Thessalonians picks up in the early 50’s A.D., when Paul and Silas visited the city and introduced the gospel to the people there, Acts 17.
The Jews there were set into an uproar when Paul taught that the gentiles could possess the same salvation benefits but without the requirements of the Levitical laws. Thus Paul was run out of town, escaping to Athens and from there, on to Corinth.
Hearing good news from Timothy and Silas, regarding the success of their conversions of gentiles (not so much in the Jewish folks), it was then that Paul wrote the first letter to the Thessalonians and that was followed shortly thereafter by the second letter.
These letters were written to comfort and encourage the Thessalonians, and to give them instructions in the spiritual life, and to clarify some of the mistaken beliefs that they had of the day of judgment. The subject of 1 Thessalonians is ‘waiting.’ And the subject of the second letter is ‘sin.’
