Isaiah 24:1

1 Behold, the LORD [Yahovah] maketh the earth ['erets] empty [baqaq], and maketh it waste [balaq], and turneth [`avah] it upside down [paniym], and scattereth abroad [puwts] the inhabitants [yashab] thereof.   KJV-Interlinear

1 Behold, the LORD will empty the earth and make it desolate, and he will twist its surface and scatter its inhabitants.   ESV

Since the thirteenth chapter, the description of the ultimate result of the evil of humanity, which includes all of the indifference and pretense directed toward Christ, will be the systematic and violent dismantling of the entire world.  This prophecy series, has been a long time known and a long time ignored, even scoffed at by generation after generation.

The word earth, denotes not just a given region, but the entire planet.

The world will be made empty and made waste and thus will be depopulated.  All wealth will be destroyed.  All production will be halted.  All government will be dismantled.  All of society will cease.  All cultures, all historical elements, everything that humanity holds near and dear to itself, will end.

Obviously this has not yet occurred in history.  It remains future and is assigned to the Tribulation or the final days and months and years of history. The final seven years to be exact. And with human history lasting for many thousands of years thus far, those final seven years will be dramatic to beyond the extreme, and extremely fast moving.

Turned upside down, means just that.  The entire world will be disfigured.  Mountains will collapse, islands will vanish, the geography of entire continents will change dramatically.  Survival for anyone will be virtually impossible, except for those few, very few, who will look to Christ for their deliverance at the second advent.

The inhabitants of the entire world, will be scattered. The word for scattered, ‘puwts,’ means to break, to dash, to shake in to pieces, cast (abroad), disperse (selves), drive, retire, scatter (abroad), spread abroad.  In other words all who attempt to remain where they are for safety will be not be able to do so.  As the earth shakes and rolls and transforms, all will be systematically ripped from wherever they are, and sent to places with total and complete helplessness.  Needless to say, there will be no survivors among the unbelieving, nor among the indifferent despite their pretended or weak faith.
