Isaiah 22:5
5 For it is a day [yowm] of trouble [mahuwmah], and
of treading down [mabuwcah], and of perplexity [mabuwkah] by the Lord ['Adonay] GOD [Yahovih] of hosts [tsaba'] in the
valley [gay'] of vision [chizzayown], breaking [quwr] down the
walls [qiyr], and of crying [showa`] to the mountains [har]. KJV-Interlinear
5 For the Lord God of hosts has a day of
panic, subjugation, and confusion In the valley of vision, A breaking down of
walls And a crying to the mountain. NASB
If you are alive
and breathing in this world, then God has an appointed time for you. The day of trouble mentioned here, is a day
that has been appointed by God for various times in history and for all individuals
throughout history.
You can look
around and see the rivers flowing on and on, regardless of what you are doing,
regardless of the time of day or night.
You can look around and see the clouds come and go, regardless of what
you are doing, regardless of the time of day or night.
And likewise,
you have a life to live and in your life, Gods grace moves on and on, regardless
of what you are doing, regardless of the time of day or night, and I might add,
regardless of what you think or believe.
Of course
thinking and believing the correct things is better than thinking or believing the
wrong things.
But regardless
of how you view life, there is an appointed time for various things that will
occur in your life.
Death is an
obvious and final event, but there are many times during your life that you will
face many tests, hardships, even prosperous times.
But here, the
time being spoken of is the time in Jerusalem, in those final days of history,
when all that have neglected their spiritual life, then the repercussions those
collective decisions, will come full circle against the people and the
disasters and sorrows and worse, will hit them full force in the face, so to
speak.
The valley of
vision, is the representation that Jerusalem is supposed to provide not only
for its inhabitants, but for the entire world.
That representation is of Gods truth and the wisdom and peace that accompany
it.
The day of
trouble, treading down, and the perplexity of it all, indicates the extreme hardships
that the people of Jerusalem will be faced with and must endure, without
exception.
The protective
walls of the city represent the protections offered to the city against
external enemies. The walls are the walls of Bible doctrine in the soul. But since they are broken down, they are
ineffective protections because they were never constructed properly, if at
all.
A spiritually negative
person, or a person who incorrectly processes spiritual food, has no fortress
protection within their soul. They are easily distracted, easily destroyed,
easily misled. Therefore they are wide open
to attack from the world.
And what happens
when you are ill prepared and have to suddenly face the horrors of life? You cry to God for help. But since you are not prepared, because you
did not take God or Christ or doctrine seriously, then crying or wishing or
hoping for mercy, simply does not happen.
We all have an
opportunity to get ourselves prepared spiritually. But for those who do not take Gods mandates
seriously, who procrastinate, for those who pretend, then last minute preparation
just does not exist.
