Isaiah 22:1
1 The burden [massa'] of the
valley [gay'] of vision [chizzayown]. What aileth thee now ['ephow], that thou art wholly gone up [`alah] to the housetops [gag]? KJV-Interlinear
1 The oracle concerning the valley of
vision. What is the matter with you now,
that you have all gone up to the housetops? NASB
The fourth
oracle, or prophecy, is given against Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the site of Mt. Zion, noted as
the dwelling place of God, the source of truth and Gods revelation, the
vision. But now is referred to as the
burden of the valley, as the general population has disregarded Gods word, and
replaced it with their own opinions.
Emotion has set
in and truth has no value where emotion rules.
This prophecy
shows the light of the world as growing dark, where truth that shows the
realities of life when disregarded, brings darkness in the thinking of people
and society. This leads to irrational thought and behavior, as well as mindless
escapism and ideas of self-salvation or self-defined-truths, which are not
truths.
People who lack clarity
of thought, take pride in their own opinions, and go so far as to mock truth or
the sources of truth.
And now, when
reality sets in and it does not look pretty for those who have ignored it, then
alarm seizes control over the general population.
The roof tops
are typically flat and when there is some news or alarm, then people run to the
roof tops to see what is going on, or what is coming. Today we run to the television or to the
internet for news happening now.
Interesting is
the contrast, in that when God warns, it is far enough in advance that one can
prepare. But when you have to run to the
roof top and see the threat advancing, then there is no time to prepare.
And so for years
and decades and centuries and more, Gods warnings have been ignored. Even now, when there is clarity of truth,
people will still argue against it.
Their argument based on nothing of substance, nothing of truth.
And this is one
of the great distractions, personal opinions that have no basis in fact or
reality.
Even in those
final years at the end of history, when the entire world will have been
crumbling all around, with the obvious clearly there, people will still ignore
it and will still be shocked and surprised when it all crashes down on top of
them.
