Romans 1:17

Copyright Ó 2014 J. Neely
Romans 1:17

17 For [gar] therein [en] [autos] is [apokalupto] the righteousness [dikaiosune] of God [theos] revealed [apokalupto] from [ek] faith [pistis] to [eis] faith [pistis]: as [kathos] it is written [grapho], [de] The just [dikaios] shall live [zao] by [ek] faith [pistis].    KJV-Interlinear

17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "But the righteous man shall live by faith."   NASB

Most Christians want to believe that faith is a mindless wish or hope wherein the person doesn’t have to do anything, and that is what leads to utter failure.  Faith, the single most misunderstood word in all of Christianity, is the result of spiritual growth, not the cause of it.  And Paul makes it clear here.

In the gospel, mentioned in verses 16 and 15, which is a reference to the entire realm of doctrine, not just to the gospel of Christ on the Cross.

For Paul is speaking to believers, or people who have already heard the gospel for salvation, therefore what they need to learn now is the doctrine or principles of Christianity for growth after salvation.

In it, which refers to the gospel, or Bible doctrine, or the content of the Bible, is righteousness.

In doctrine, is righteousness.  And it is revealed or made known.

Righteousness is the intrinsic meaning of Gods plan in reconciling the world to Himself, through Christ.

Man, through all of those religions that exist out there, wants to reconcile himself to God, to nature, to the universe, to time and space, and whatever else man can invent through his imagination.  But man in his own mind, is doing all of the work by either being good or better, or by killing the infidel, or by doing whatever it is that seems fair and just and proper at the time.  But all of this is driven by mans sin nature, not by Gods righteousness or justice.

There is good and there is evil and God deals only with good, His good, not mans good.  Human good is just another aspect of mans arrogance and evil.

Man invents his own set of rules which are arbitrary at best.    That is why there are so many religions and philosophies.  They all contradict one another, but they do have one thing in common, which is they are all false.

God discloses His rules through Bible doctrine.  And doctrine has been around since Adam and actually doctrine has been around since eternity past, for God is the Word, which is Truth, and Truth is the Word and it is also God.  They are all closely integrated within each other.

Even from the Old Testament, Hab. 2:4, it is written that man lives by faith.  And faith is constructed by doctrine learned.  It is not an empty hope or wish based on nothing.

Faith to faith, means simply your faith (the end result of study) is constructed by faith (the content of Bible doctrine).

When you figure this out within your own mind, and you get with a daily study, then your life will become more meaningful and fulfilling and certainly happier.  And you will live by means of faith, or by Bible doctrine that resides within your own soul.

What you think, is what you are.

Isaiah 22:5

Copyright Ó 2014 J. Neely
Isaiah 22:5ues

5 For it is a day [yowm] of trouble [mahuwmah], and of treading down [mabuwcah], and of perplexity [mabuwkah] by the Lord ['Adonay] GOD [Yahovih] of hosts [tsaba'] in the valley [gay'] of vision [chizzayown], breaking [quwr] down the walls [qiyr], and of crying [showa`] to the mountains [har].  KJV-Interlinear

5 For the Lord God of hosts has a day of panic, subjugation, and confusion In the valley of vision, A breaking down of walls And a crying to the mountain.  NASB

If you are alive and breathing in this world, then God has an appointed time for you.  The day of trouble mentioned here, is a day that has been appointed by God for various times in history and for all individuals throughout history.

You can look around and see the rivers flowing on and on, regardless of what you are doing, regardless of the time of day or night.  You can look around and see the clouds come and go, regardless of what you are doing, regardless of the time of day or night.

And likewise, you have a life to live and in your life, Gods grace moves on and on, regardless of what you are doing, regardless of the time of day or night, and I might add, regardless of what you think or believe.

Of course thinking and believing the correct things is better than thinking or believing the wrong things.

But regardless of how you view life, there is an appointed time for various things that will occur in your life.

Death is an obvious and final event, but there are many times during your life that you will face many tests, hardships, even prosperous times.

But here, the time being spoken of is the time in Jerusalem, in those final days of history, when all that have neglected their spiritual life, then the repercussions those collective decisions, will come full circle against the people and the disasters and sorrows and worse, will hit them full force in the face, so to speak.

The valley of vision, is the representation that Jerusalem is supposed to provide not only for its inhabitants, but for the entire world.  That representation is of Gods truth and the wisdom and peace that accompany it.

The day of trouble, treading down, and the perplexity of it all, indicates the extreme hardships that the people of Jerusalem will be faced with and must endure, without exception.

The protective walls of the city represent the protections offered to the city against external enemies. The walls are the walls of Bible doctrine in the soul.  But since they are broken down, they are ineffective protections because they were never constructed properly, if at all.

A spiritually negative person, or a person who incorrectly processes spiritual food, has no fortress protection within their soul. They are easily distracted, easily destroyed, easily misled.  Therefore they are wide open to attack from the world.

And what happens when you are ill prepared and have to suddenly face the horrors of life?  You cry to God for help.  But since you are not prepared, because you did not take God or Christ or doctrine seriously, then crying or wishing or hoping for mercy, simply does not happen.

We all have an opportunity to get ourselves prepared spiritually.  But for those who do not take Gods mandates seriously, who procrastinate, for those who pretend, then last minute preparation just does not exist.

Isaiah 22:4

Copyright Ó 2014 J. Neely
Isaiah 22:4ues

4 Therefore said ['amar] I, Look away [sha`ah] from me; I will weep [Bakiy] bitterly [marar], labour ['uwts] not to comfort [nacham] me, because of the spoiling [shod] of the daughter [bath] of my people [`am].  KJV-Interlinear

4 Therefore I say, "Turn your eyes away from me, Let me weep bitterly, Do not try to comfort me concerning the destruction of the daughter of my people."  NASB

The wasted life is great when people do not obey His mandates, who disregard their obligations as believers in Christ, and that leads to a great sadness of God, because of the ruin that results from an indifferent people.

And here is Jerusalem, the symbol of the result of a fulfilled spiritual life.

Zion is the symbol of the vast truth of God.

Zion resides within the city of Jerusalem.  Jerusalem is the symbol of a people who have learned and inculcated and assimilated doctrine into their souls by means of their daily dedication to learning doctrine.

And when the city or the process of spiritual growth ceases, and the residents or Christians are lax in their growth, then ruin and destruction result.

And this causes a sadness, but here in our verse, the sadness is a deep and very moving sadness.  One in which you have to go somewhere to be alone to deal with it.  One in which there is no amount of comforting that can be offered to make it better.

The weeping, the grief, the sadness is beyond description, beyond words.

And here Isaiah is expressing his feelings that convey how God feels about the lifetime of wrong decisions and the result of their destruction that is also beyond description.

God has created a phenomenal plan for all of humanity.  Sadly too many refuse to see it and therefore they will suffer as never before and lose as never before.

And since this is a part of the final days of history prophecy against Jerusalem, then we know from the study of Revelation, that the horrors of that time will be unbelievable.  Try to imagine every possible crime and violence that can be used by people against other people, and then multiply that by a hundred.  Even that does not come close to what is going to happen in those final days.

And as for us, even though we are not among that final generation of that future time, there is still a lesson to be learned.  God cares deeply about you.  God has given you something that is beyond value, a value that cannot be calculated.  And yet how many will figure that out and then dedicate themselves to achieving that which God has freely provided?

Isaiah 22:3

Copyright Ó 2014 J. Neely
Isaiah 22:3ues

3 All thy rulers [qatsiyn] are fled [nadad] together [yachad], they are bound ['acar] by the archers [qesheth]: all that are found [matsa'] in thee are bound ['acar] together [yachad], which have fled [barach] from far [rachowq].  KJV-Interlinear

3 All your rulers have fled together, And have been captured without the bow; All of you who were found were taken captive together, Though they had fled far away.  NASB

Jerusalem is in view here.  It is spiritually dysfunctional because the people disregarded God and His Word and did not learn anything.  The city that is supposed to be the representation of Gods vast wisdom and peace, is now in its deepest valley of spiritual despair.

Its leadership will run away.

Bound, here represents the feeling of fear or being seized or bound up with fear at the prospect of an advancing enemy.

They are so in terror, that even the professional military types, here represented as the archers, cannot even lift or use their bows and arrows.  They drop their weapons and run without firing off a single shot.  The average citizen is left unprotected.

All will run and all will try to run far away, but there is no place that is far enough, for they will be captured and thereby placed in prisons, tortured, executed and probably worse for many of them.

And so is the nature of those who have no doctrine in their souls.

Bible doctrine produces courage and the courageous.

Lack of doctrine produces cowards.

Everyone in life will face pressures of one sort or another.  If you have committed yourself to a daily study, then you will learn and you will eventually be able to handle anything that comes along.

With such preparation, then God never places anything greater before you, that you cannot handle.  Because, with spiritual maturity, you will be able to handle anything.

Without doctrine, without any spiritual growth, then nearly everything will cause you to be seized with fear and anxiety.  And even if you are able to handle the little things, like a broken finger nail, there will be sooner or later, something that will destroy your poise.

With doctrine in the soul, you will be able to handle the little things as well as the huge problems of life.
