Psalm 25:5
5 Lead [darak] me in thy truth, ['emeth] and teach [lamad] me: for
thou art the God ['elohiym] of my salvation; [yesha`] on thee do I wait [qavah]
all the day. [yowm] KJV-Interlinear
5 Lead
me in Thy truth and teach me, For Thou art the God of my salvation; For Thee I
wait all the day. NASB
To lead, means to show
the way or direction.
In truth, means that
which is accurate and completely compatible with reality, and not pretense, or
delusional, or deceitfully portrayed, or incorrectly interpreted.
To teach is what we
studied the other day. To teach, is by means
of instruction. God states and man
listens. God instructs and man
learns. God makes clear and man discerns
correctly.
Learning does not come by
accidental means, nor does it come by means of idle wishes, nor by means of experience
alone. Learning comes from being taught. Experience simply reinforces that which we
have learned, through that application of our learned knowledge to our daily
activity. Sometimes we have to learn in our
stubbornness through trial and error.
And it is God who
instructs. God the Father authored the Word, Christ is the Word, and the Holy
Spirit makes it real and discernible and perspicuous and efficacious in our
life.
And God does all of this
through His written word.
Salvation, ‘yesha,’ here
means deliverance, prosperity, security, confidence. This is not the function of being saved, as
in from the Lake of Fire.
Bible doctrine is the
basis and foundation upon which our life exists. Our spiritual life especially. It is the rock, the solid foundation.
If you do not have
doctrine, if you do not take the time to learn it daily as you are supposed to
learn it, then your life is built on sand, or unstable ground.
Doctrine is the source
and path for knowing truth.
By engaging in a daily
study then the many truths of this world, of life, of God, of the reality
around us, are all made clear and known.
Even though you read, ‘In
the beginning, … Adam and Eve, … Job, … David, … baby Jesus,’ and on and on,
this pattern of study serves as an opening up of your mind and soul, such that
God lets you see far more than just the words.
He lets you see truth beyond the words.
And through truth, comes
our blessing and prosperity and life, as it were, with the confidence that
there really is far more to life than we can think or imagine.
And by waiting, means
that we simply become patient, tolerant, enduring. We continue our studies, we keep on learning,
we keep looking to the future which is heaven, we keep advancing through our
life and obligations with
responsibility, as we should, and let Gods timetable proceed before us.
