Isaiah 12:1

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 12:1ues

1 And in that day [yowm] thou shalt say, ['amar] O LORD, [Yahovah] I will praise [yadah] thee: though thou wast angry ['anaph] with me, thine anger ['aph] is turned away, [shuwb] and thou comfortedst [nacham] me. KJV-Interlinear

1 Then you will say on that day, "I will give thanks to Thee, O Lord; For although Thou wast angry with me, Thine anger is turned away, And Thou dost comfort me. NASB

In that day, is a reference to the previous chapter, wherein the Messiah, the Lord, has defeated evil and all enemies of good and truth, and has delivered all who have looked to Him in those desperate days with never-ending confidence.

And despite obvious and overwhelming odds against them, they were kept alive by Christ, in order to be delivered by Christ, and enter into the Millennium, which is the promised Kingdom of God on earth.

It is those people who will witness the most dramatic events of all of human history.  Never having seen past history, but only knowing about what they have read in the history books and such, and most probably not giving much of even a second thought to the past events of history, but now will have seen first hand, the rise of an anti-christ, and the fall of humanity and the entire world, in just seven brief but seemingly long years.

They will be witness to the dramatic geological changes in the planet.  They will be witness to the dramatic changes in the animal life.  They will be witness to the dramatic changes in a world that no longer has the influence of an imprisoned Satan.

And the thoughts of all people will now be ones of praise and appreciation and love and deep thoughtfulness for all that the Lord has accomplished for them and for everyone.

And it is this twelfth chapter, though just a short six verses, which will demonstrate the incredible song that will exist within the hearts of those who have been delivered from the worlds worst period in all of human history.

When most did not look to Christ, when most will probably fall away in their despair and anxiety driven fears and worries, when most will not learn doctrine and grow up in their spiritual life and spiritual faith as counseled in the first few verses of chapter eleven, when most will lack doctrine and therefore will give up in their life and on life because the pressures and terrors of the world are too great, and their faith in Gods plan and deliverance was too small or non-existent.

It will be a time when everyone, without exception, during that period of Tribulation, will never know what tomorrow will bring, when all around them there is nothing but destruction and death and starvation and violence, and absolutely no reason to believe that tomorrow will be any better, but most likely will be far worse.

But there will be a few, a remnant, who will look to God after living in unbelief, and will turn their lives totally to His promise, and they will persevere through until the very end, until He returns at the Second Advent, and established His Kingdom and rule.

And the changes will be so dramatic that there will not be words to express oneself, except these few words or praise.  Words and confidences that should be in all of us regardless of when we live in history.

Isaiah 11:16

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 11:16ues

16 And there shall be an highway [macillah] for the remnant [sha'ar] of his people, [`am] which ['aher] shall be left, [sha'ar] from Assyria; ['Ashshuwr] like as it was to Israel [Yisra'el] in the day [yowm] that he came up [`alah] out of the land ['erets] of Egypt. [Mitsrayim] KJV-Interlinear

16 And there will be a highway from Assyria For the remnant of His people who will be left, Just as there was for Israel In the day that they came up out of the land of Egypt. NASB

Assyria here, is not the specific country of Assyria as it was known in Isaiah’s day, ‘Ashshuwr,’ was the second son of Shem who was the first son of Noah.

The empire at one time spanned from modern day Turkey to Iran, from the Caspian Sea down deep into Egypt.  So it pretty much covered all of the Middle East and then a bit more, or all of the known world back in the early days of Mesopotamia.

We have already seen that the nations all around Israel will have been defeated and destroyed by Christ, verse 11.

We saw in yesterday’s study that the geographical barriers such as the rivers and gulfs will be dried up or divided up into many smaller streams, allowing people to walk back to Israel without the need for special vehicles or boats or such.

And in this last verse of the chapter, the result is a vast highway, coming from all directions, allowing people to return to the Lord, and to return in as easy a way as possible given the nature of the world in that future day.

So we look a bit at how the world will look.

First there will have been a huge final war called Armageddon which will see the deaths of all evil people.
People who have but one purpose, which was to kill off all Jews and Christians and then finally all of humanity.

Second the world will be in a shambles.  All mountains, all islands, entire continents will be reshaped and changed if not gone completely.  So people will be walking back to Jerusalem and to the Lord by passing all of this death and destruction.

Also, we need or note one more item within this verse.

There will be similarities to the exodus when the Israelites came out of Egypt.  God did so by means of miraculous achievements such as in the parting of the Red Sea.  But too, God provided them with all that they needed, including food and water.

Also, this verse states that it will be like the remnant that came out of Egypt.

Back then, when the Israelites left Canaan and went into Egypt they numbered only about 75 people.  When they left they numbered about two-million.

When the tribulation begins, depending on when that happens, we know that the population of the world will most likely be larger than it is today and today we number well over seven-billion.  That total number will of course be reduced by however many Christians are removed at the Rapture.

Today the estimated Jewish world population is about thirteen million.  In the future, in several more decades, that number could advance to well over a hundred million.

Historically in recent centuries the Jewish population has grown slowly with lots of setbacks due to one holocaust after another, but prior to the Exodus, the Israelite population rose dramatically.  So, if that same attribute holds, then there could be a big jump in their population in coming decades.  Time will tell, I suppose.

So, if the Rapture does not occur for several more decades, then the world population could easily be into the tens of billions of people.  At the end of the Tribulation, that number will be significantly reduced by well over ninety-nine percent.

The end of the Tribulation will see phenomenal destruction and death for all people.  And the primary target of the world will be the Jews.

Yet still and in spite of the great effort to destroy Jewish people, there will still be a remnant that will come out of the mountains, out of their hiding places, coming out of the woodwork so to speak, and they will come from all over the Middle East and beyond.

The number of delivered people could be in the thousands or even the tens of thousands.  Perhaps even a couple of million as was in the exodus.  In any case, survival of anyone will be nothing short of a miracle, but there will be a significant remnant of people coming from all over and they will begin moving toward Jerusalem when the way is clear and safe.

Isaiah 11:15

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 11:15ues

15 And the LORD [Yahovah] shall utterly destroy [charam] the tongue [lashown] of the Egyptian [Mitsrayim] sea; [yam] and with his mighty [`ayam] wind [ruwach] shall he shake [nuwph] his hand [yad] over the river, [nahar] and shall smite [nakah] it in the seven [sheba`] streams, [nachal] and make men go over [darak] dryshod. [na`al]KJV-Interlinear

15 And the Lord will utterly destroy The tongue of the Sea of Egypt; And He will wave His hand over the River With His scorching wind; And He will strike it into seven streams, And make men walk over dry-shod. NASB

The Sea of Egypt is generally a term that refers to the Suez Gulf or the Red Sea.

The river, is most often used to refer to the Euphrates River.

The Tigress and the Euphrates both empty into the Persian Gulf or the Gulf of Aqaba.

Both of these gulfs when viewed on a map look like tongues that extend northward from the Arabian Sea.

The imagery here is from the exodus when God parted the waters of the Red Sea and the Israelites crossed over on dry land.  The barrier was removed and the crossing was made easy.

And what Isaiah is saying here is that God will remove the most formidable barriers that have historically prevented the Jews from returning to Israel.

But even more than that, this regathering is not to Jerusalem exclusively, or even to the land, but it is a regathering of the surviving Jewish people, to Christ.

The scorching wind, the shaking of His hand, the seven streams, all point to the resolve of purpose, and to the finality and accomplishment of Gods plan.

When the Kingdom of God is installed, then all barriers, great and small, will be removed.

Evil is removed, the wildness and uncertainties of nature are removed, the enemies of the world are removed, and the geographical features of great seas and rivers and such, will be removed.

For people all over the world, who survive at the end of the Tribulation, and this is not exclusive to the Middle East, the path to Christ, will be made easy.

Psalm 25:8

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 25:8

8 Good [towb] and upright [yashar] is the LORD: [Yahovah] therefore will he teach [yarah] sinners [chatta'] in the way. [derek] KJV-Interlinear

8 Good and upright is the Lord; Therefore He instructs sinners in the way. NASB

This verse seems simple an obvious on the surface, but a deeper look into this verse suggests a whole different view of what it is really teaching us.

Briefly, God is good and truth, and therefore God teaches good and truth.  And He obviously teaches it to anyone and everyone who is interested in good and truth.  That would be us.

But the world is full of religions and philosophies that deviate from good and truth, which promotes all sorts of scenarios for the many beliefs that exist today.

From the early mythologies where the gods competed or fought with one another, or with monsters of the deep or with man himself, to the more organize religions where the works of man are paramount to gaining an equal footing with God, to the huge number of beliefs of todays world, where virtually anything and everything can be construed as acceptable so long as you are sincere and really believe, there is no shortage of systems of belief wherein God and good and truth are replaced with acceptable morals or standards, or even the very strict views of Islam, especially the Shariah form, wherein you are either one of them or you need to be subjugated (women especially), or destroyed.

And all of these things, all of these religions, all of these beliefs, even the many philosophies of secularism, are all consumed in sin in one way or another.  Even the deities of these belief systems operate with policies of sin.

But not God, the one true God, who is Jesus Christ, who is the Son, as well as the Father, as well as the Holy Spirit.  These are all good.

There is no sin in them.  They are not capable of sin.  They are capable of not sinning.

The Bible is the word of God, and its message is of good and truth, and it warns of sin and indifference which leads to sin, as well as the consequences of ignoring good and truth.

Now understand one thing.  All who reject Christ, will go to the Lake of Fire, and that is not really a punishment that God imposes on them, it is God allowing them to have their wish, which is to be away from and not a part of Gods universe, and to seek out their own path in eternity.

They will learn unfortunately that their control over life after they leave Gods domain, is non-existent.  No one can control the growth of the hair on their head let alone the weather, and they certainly cannot control a universe without God, in eternity.  That is the Lake of Fire, over which they will have no control, and no return, only pure terror and worse.

God is good and truth.  God teaches and promotes only good and truth.

If you are involved with anything else, then you are following the wrong path.

Psalm 25:7

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 25:7

7 Remember [zakar] not the sins [chatta'ah] of my youth, [na`uwr] nor my transgressions: [pesha`] according to thy mercy [checed] remember [zakar] thou me for thy goodness [tuwb]' sake, O LORD. [Yahovah] KJV-Interlinear

7 Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; According to Thy lovingkindness remember Thou me, For Thy goodness' sake, O Lord. NASB

Fellowship is one of the more important and key attributes of the Christian life.

Fellowship is a positional sphere in which you must live, in order to have a functional relationship with God and a functional spiritual life.

The unbeliever cannot get into fellowship with God because the unbeliever has no relationship with God until he is saved.

But once you believe in Christ, then you are saved and thus your spiritual life begins.

But as we all know, after salvation we all continue to commit sins.  So what then?

Well, God has defined a method for us to cleanse ourselves of those sins, and that method is called confession.

Confession is documented in Lev. 4 with the application of the two sin offerings, one for known sins and one for unknown or forgotten sins.  The application of confession in its mechanics is in Lev. 26, where confession is mandated.  Confession is also described in 1 Jn. 1:9 in its entirety, where when we confess our sins, then God forgives us of those sins, and cleanses us of all unrighteousness.  That is the restoration into fellowship process.

Think of sin as filth, and think of confession as the washing away of that filth.  There are numerous passages that describe this process in the washing of the hands, the washing of the feet, both representing the activity of ones life as far as dirt an filth are concerned.  This washing away represents the removal of sin in ones life, and returning you to a clean state.

When you are filthy, you cannot approach God.  He is pure and clean and will not receive you when you are dirty.  Therefore, before you approach God, you have to wash yourself, as it were.  Confession is that cleansing process for the soul.  Once clean, then you may approach God as well as function within your spiritual life.

Why do they say that cleanliness of next to godliness?

All spiritual activity occurs when you are in fellowship.  No spiritual activity occurs when you are out of fellowship.

Committing a sin removes you from fellowship.  You are dirty.

Confession places you back into fellowship.  You are washed or clean.

Note that this has nothing to do with your salvation.  Once saved, always saved.  Confession is a function strictly for believers.  Fellowship is a state strictly for believers.

Now, when you confess, what happens?

First, God hears your confession, which is a form of prayer, and acknowledges your confessed sins, and then God washes them away as it were, He erases them, expunges them, removes them from existence as though they never existed.

The process is, ‘Father, I did this and thought that and did that and thought this and so forth.’  Confession is a listing of your sins, nothing more.  No, I’m sorry’s.  No, I’ll never do it again’s.  No, guilt stuff.  No, poor me stuff.  Just a list of the sins.  ‘Father I did this and that and this and that.’  End of confession.

Next God erases all of your sins which you just listed, and He goes even further than that and erases all of the forgotten sins or unknown sins that you may have not known about or somehow conveniently forgot.

Then God forgives, which is the washing and erasing process, and restores you into fellowship.

End of confession process.

The sins of your youth, the sins of long ago, the sins of today are all gone, and no longer an issue as far as the function of your spiritual life are concerned.

Oh, and by the way, your confession is directed to God the Father only, and to no one else.  This is between you and God and not anyone else's business or concern.  People cannot forgive, and penance is not in view here or ever in view.  Penance is works and works is an evil concept.

And David describes this process here.  Remember not the sins of my youth or my [present] transgressions.

No one is punished for sins they committed long ago.  Unless of course you keep committing sins and never confess, and then your problem is one of a life pattern of sin, not an accumulation of bad sin credit.  You are your own worst enemy in that situation.

So, if you did something long ago, or had a life of bad habits long ago, then confess them and they are now expunged from your life.  The next thing for you is to forget them and never look back on them.  There is no room for poor me attitudes in your life, or even for looking for excuses as to why life is bad now.

But also remember that this is not a license to sin and think that you can get away with it.  There are repercussions to pursuing a pattern and if you think that you can mix good with evil in your life, then you are the fool and sooner or later you will fall flat on your face.

Life is full of difficulties, and they probably are not related to your sins or past.  It is the devils world and you are always going to face challenges in your life.

Too, if you have pursued a colorful life in the past, then you may end up with serving time or catching some disease or have an injury due to an accident from your frivolity and so forth.

Confession and forgiveness does not cure a disease, nor repair an injury, nor even stop bad reputation gossip.  It is not a get out of jail card.

The fellowship sphere is strictly a relationship with God attribute wherein your spiritual life can function properly.  Fellowship promotes your learning and growing and production and relationship with God.  Fellowship is where your entire spiritual life exists.  It does not stop or even correct whatever is happening out in the world around you.

The storms will still come and go.  The gossip will still come and go.  The accidents and old age and such will still occur.

Fellowship allows you to focus on God, and not on poor me.  Fellowship is forward motion in your life, not looking back.

Galatians 3:17

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 3:17

17 And [de] this [touto] I say, [lego] that the covenant, [diatheke] that was confirmed before [prokuroo] of [hupo] God [theos] in [eis] Christ, [Christos] the law, [nomos] which was [ginomai] four hundred [tetrakosioi] and [kai] thirty [triakonta] years [etos] after, [meta] cannot [ou] disannul, [akuroo] that [eis] it should make [katargeo] the promise [epaggelia] of none effect. [katargeo] KJV-Interlinear

17 What I am saying is this: the Law, which came four hundred and thirty years later, does not invalidate a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to nullify the promise. NASB

God made the promise to Abraham in Gen. 12:3-4.  Abraham was then seventy-five years old.

Moses wrote the Mosaic Law four-hundred and thirty years later, which was just a few months after the exodus of the Israelites out from Egypt.

Clearly, the Law as written by Moses came at a much later date than the time of the promise that was given by God to Abraham.

God made a promise to Abraham when he left Haran and entered into the land of Canaan.  Note that Canaan was not given to Abraham, but it was a land wherein Abraham and all of his family lived or moved about, or as the Bible states, sojourned there during their stay in Canaan.

The Israelites did not receive possession of the land until after they left Egypt, which would not be for several centuries later.  In fact Abraham was told in Gen. 15:13, that his people would be strangers in the land for four-hundred years.  This time began with the birth and weaning of Isaac which was thirty years later after the date of this promise.  Ishmael was five years old when both he and his mother were turned out and Isaac was formally recognized as the legitimate heir of Abraham.  Being strangers in the land included the time in Canaan which they did not own and the time in Egypt, wherein they were subjected to bondage until the exodus.  And even all of this is symbolic of all of our receiving ownership of the promise land, which is the new universe in eternity. That is the one that really counts, and will be forever.

But we stray from our topic a bit.

Faith versus works.  Gods promise is based on faith.  The law as written by Moses is based on works.  Faith is achievable by everyone.  Works is achievable by no one, with but one exception, who is Jesus Christ.  And Jesus is God and it should be obvious that only God can live a perfect life.

Anyone who believes that they can live a perfect life is only delusional at best.

When two parties make a pact or contract or agreement, and both agree on the terms of that contract, then neither of them can singularly make changes that would cancel out the original agreement.  And this was not done by the giving of the law.

God made a promise to Abraham, and God is obligated to keep His promises.  Even God cannot renege on a promise. Once made He is obligated to keep it.

Therefore even though the Law was given even centuries later, its purpose was not to negate the promise, but in fact it reinforced the fact that without the promise, there would be no salvation, for man cannot earn it, neither can he accomplish it by any means other than by the work of God and thus through faith in that divine work and promise.

Anyone who tries to work their way through salvation or their spiritual life, is trying to apply works, their own works, as an addition to or a substitute for, faith. And in that effort, they are out of line and they have only guaranteed failure in store for themselves.
