New Year - 2012

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely

New Year - 2012

Just over 2000 years ago, a unique birth occurred in history that would mark a change that would last for all of eternity.

Unnoticed by most, witnessed by few, the birth of Jesus Christ was foretold for many centuries, right down to the very day of His birth.

The angels sang and the shepherds listened with curiosity.  The priests were indifferent and the public was preoccupied with their daily comings and goings.  The magi traveled from far off and foreign lands, while the nation of Judah forgot the purpose of their heritage.

Noah foretold of a devastating rain and flood, and for one-hundred and twenty years, people ignored and mocked his warnings.

The scriptures foretold of the birth of a savior, and yet for four hundred years immediately prior to his birth, indifference drew only silence from God.

The feasts and offerings foretold of His sacrifice at Passover, and yet people spit and mocked Him while He hung from the Cross.

The next significant date in history is the Rapture, and now we have no date certain to look to.  And why should there be?  No one would consider it important just as people of the past disregarded important dates of the past.

Even the end of the Millennium, a fixed one-thousand year period, was ignored as masses of people have rejected Christ as that calendared date grew near.

The innkeeper was too busy to make room for the parents of the humanity of Jesus, and so off to the barn and a quite birth without fanfare, and without notice, a helpless infant was born to poor parents and an indifferent world.

The King wanted to kill Him. But he did not want to take the two hour trip south to Bethlehem to find the child.  The city was preoccupied with the taxation process being imposed on them by Rome on that very day of the worlds transition.

If Jesus would only remain the gentle and mild person that the world wants to know Him by.  If He would remain a dreamer, a prophet, and man of history for which stained-glass windows are made.  Then He would not pose so much trouble in the lives of people, such that they could live their lives in accordance with the way in which they have defined their own life.

But not so.  Man has no command over his own beginning or his end.  Man has no power to define and guide his own environment let alone his future.

And so we have only our volition with which to determine our destiny.  Not technology, not science, not philosophy, nothing we can imagine or invent can help us beyond our certain death.

And so belief in Christ, a commitment to a daily study program, and a commitment to Him whom we have never seen, is all that we have and need, in order to secure for ourselves the best possible life and future imaginable.

While the world will continue to be preoccupied with its daily business, so too you should be preoccupied with your spiritual investment.  The world ignored the flood and paid the price.  The world ignored a birth, and will continue to pay the ultimate price.

More is made of an ancient calendar that carries no weight in truth, and came to nothing.

You should take a moment and consider the insignificant moment, of His birth, and just how significant in your life, it really is.

'Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.'

As we conclude yet another year, I wish to thank each and every one of you for your ongoing and continued support, and dedication to the Daily Bible Study.

From my family here in Oregon, to your family in all corners of the world, through this wonderful technology we have in our current day, which gives us all a very unique opportunity to study the Word of God together, though we do not see each other, we wish all a very happy new year.

Keep in the Word, Isa. 41:10.

Isaiah 41:10
Fear not for I am with you, be not dismayed for I am your God, I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.

And now to Him who is able to keep you from falling, and to present you without blemish before the presence of His Glory, with exceeding joy, to the only wise God and savior, even Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom be glory, and majesty, dominion and power forever and ever.  Amen!

Psalm 21:8

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Psalm 21:8

8 Thine hand [yad] shall find out [matsa'] all thine enemies: ['oyeb] thy right hand [yamiyn] shall find out [matsa'] those that hate [sane'] thee. KJV-Interlinear

8 Your hand will find out all your enemies; Your right hand will find out those who hate you.  NASB

The hand is often used as the instrument of ones work or effort.  And here it is Gods hand that works truth and is able to find out, to discover, to expose all enemies that oppose God, that oppose truth, that oppose His plan, that reject God and truth, that are indifferent toward God or truth or His plan, that are adversaries against God in any and all manner of opposition.

The right side, is the side of authority. Gods right hand is the work that supersedes all other works or efforts.  God is the sovereign over all that exists.

Will find out, is repeated twice indicating that God knows all.  Nothing can be hidden from God, no matter what plans or deceptions are thought up or attempted in history.

Will, indicates the certainty of Gods ultimate victory over all that oppose Him.  God does not need to discover opposition, He already knows it from eternity past.  Therefore nothing can ever be hidden or slipped past God.

The certainty is emphasized here, since truth is going to be the victor when history concludes and mans efforts and Satan’s efforts are brought to a screeching halt and end, once and for all in the final days of history.

So, this very important principle should make you aware that any thoughts that you have toward drifting away on your own and against God, will end up in certain failure.

There is only one victory and that is by means of Gods plan and design for history and especially for your personal life.

Psalm 21:7

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Psalm 21:7

7 For the king [melek] trusteth [batach] in the LORD, [Yahovah] and through the mercy [checed] of the most High ['elyown] he shall not be moved. [mowt] KJV-Interlinear

7 For the king trusts in the Lord, And through the lovingkindness of the Most High he will not be shaken. NASB

David is the king.  Most kings and leaders and high ranking officials throughout history have presumed that they are beyond the need for God or anything else in creation.  Some even presumed themselves as a god themselves, but of course that did not work out so well for them.

But a really smart person, a wise person, knows the truth about life and reality, and they know that all of life depends entirely on God for all of their and its, existence.

Without God in your life, you would be nothing, have nothing, know nothing.  But then there a lot of people that are too stupid to figure this out.  After all, having been alive in this world for the impressive number of years of perhaps ten, or twenty, or forty, or even eighty years, then you can well imagine that you more than qualify for wisdom over all of human history of well into the many thousands of years, and of the planet and of creation, which is many more times that number.

But David did not presume such wisdom.

It is due to Gods favor, or as we often times call it, grace, that we are even here at all.

And mercy, ‘checed,’ means grace or favor, but it is the application of grace, or grace in action, the activity of Gods work in our behalf in the present.

God gives us favor, due to our compliance with His truth, which is the content of the scriptures, and the mandates and procedures that He has defined and designed for our spiritual life, and then he applies His favor, or blessings to our life throughout the course of our life.

And not be moved, simply means to be established.

Being established means to be set on solid ground, on a solid foundation, that is immovable and permanent.

And that foundation is doctrine.

Established means to be complete, and that is exactly what doctrine does for you.

You were born into this world an incomplete person.  Your physical life demonstrates the completion process wherein you grow up physically, learn information and develop mentally, and grow up to some semblance of maturity.

And so it is with the spiritual life, only the spiritual aspects of your life will be with you forever, and they are the foundation and form, or your real completion and destiny with God forever.

Galatians 1:2

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Galatians 1:2

2 And [kai] all [pas] the brethren [adelphos] which are with [sun] me, [emoi] unto the churches [ekklesia] of Galatia: [Galatia] KJV-Interlinear

2 and all the brethren who are with me, to the churches of Galatia: NASB

Paul is about to give the Galatians a lecture as to their attitude and behavior with regard to their adoption of works as a part of their spiritual lives, and so the tone is set here, of subtle coolness in the greeting where the names are absent in Pauls opening remarks.

In other books Paul identifies many people by name, in giving them compliments and such.  But here, there seem to be several who are with him, and in not naming any, implies that they all are of the same opinion and mind as to the errors that are now prevalent within the Galatian community.

The churches is plural but also are not identified by name.  There are several towns and communities in Galatia.  Their number is not given and their identities are not named.

This letter is addressed collectively to them all, thus indicating that they all are pursuing the same collection of errors, which many Judaizes were introducing in that region.

It is not unreasonable to see separate communities, though separated by some form of distance or geography, to follow similar errors or trends in beliefs.

When the distances are greater, then there is a tendency of separation of social attitudes and beliefs.  Even in a single country, there can be differences in views between the north, south, east or western sections of that same country.  Continents offer even more distance and differences that serve to protect any given society from coming under the influence or control of another.

But as those distances become shorter, then differences, that generally protect society, become fewer and fewer.

And while in our current age, the geographical distances are the same as they were centuries ago, the gap between peoples and opinions is virtually removed by means of television and the internet, and this will have a huge impact on life and society, in the future end of days scenarios.  The real ones, not the fake ones, of course.

Galatians 1:1

Galatians 1:1

1 Paul, [Paulos] an apostle, [apostolos] (not [ou] of [apo] men, [anthropos] neither [oude] by [dia] man, [anthropos] but [alla] by [dia] Jesus [Iesous] Christ, [Christos] and [kai] God [theos] the Father, [pater] who [ho] raised [egeiro] him [autos] from [ek] the dead; [nekros]) KJV-Interlinear

1 Paul, an apostle (not sent from men, nor through the agency of man, but through Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead), NASB

The writer of this letter is Paul. Paul means, little or small, and though it probably referred to his physical presence, it is also a reference to his spiritual humility.  Revered by all Christians as perhaps the one who made the most contribution to the New Testament, he is probably second only to Isaiah as far as the entire Bible is concerned.

Paul is referred to by those who did not particularly like him, as demeaning and unimpressive as an individual, 2 Cor. 10:10.

Paul was born into a Jewish family, Phil. 3:5, was a Roman citizen, Acts 22:25-28, was born with the name of Saul which was changed to Paul, Acts. 13:9.

He was raised in traditional orthodox fashion, circumcised on the eighth day, born of the tribe of Benjamin, a Pharisee, Phil. 3:5, fanatical and devout in Judaism, excelled among his peers, Gal. 1:14, was exuberant even in his participation in the death of Stephen, Acts 8:1, and the persecution of Christians in general, Acts 8:3, 9:1-2, 26:9-11.

While traveling to Damascus, Paul was confronted by Christ and converted to Christianity, Acts 9.  Paul spent three years in solitary preparation then returned to Damascus proclaiming the gospel of Christ.  He was run out of town, so to speak, and went to Jerusalem, where he was hesitantly received because of his former reputation, Acts 9:22-25, 2 Cor. 11:32-33.

Through the efforts of Barnabas, Paul was accepted, and went to Antioch, where he became one of the pastors in the church there. It was from that ministry that Paul launched his ministry to the gentiles, and thereby came to meet Timothy in due course, Acts 22:14-15, 26:16-18.

Paul is called an apostle, which means messenger, or to send off on a commission to do something as one's personal representative with credentials furnished, an envoy, an ambassador.

Many in the New Testament were called apostles, both of the original twelve as well as others, Barnabas, Acts 14:14, Epaphroditus, Phil. 2:25, Andronicus and Junius, Rom. 16:7, and James, Gal 1:19.

In a more restrictive definition of the term, only the original eleven plus Matthias and later Paul, who as selected by Christ Himself, or who were witness to Jesus personally, came into possession of the title.

Jesus Christ is commonly known as the second person of the Trinity.  However, this title does not make Him unequal with either the Father or the Spirit.  All three members of the Trinity are co-equal, co-eternal, and co-infinite.  They all have the same essence, omniscience, omnipresence, omnipotence, righteousness, justice, veracity, immutability, sovereignty, eternal life, love.

Long ago, Psa 1-2, the members of the Trinity set out a plan.  They all knew that angels and then people would try to elevate themselves to the same level of God, and presume that they all had the right to approach God from their own attributes and character.

God, all three, therefore came up with a plan to counter creature arrogance.  They set up a chain of command, and allowed no one to approach the Father, except by going through a second party.  One of the three assumed the title, Son of God, and that person we have come to know as Jesus Christ.

He is still God, but the divine plan requires creatures to approach the Father, only through the Son.  This is a title of authority and procedure.

Arrogance will immediately perceive that going through someone else, is undignified and beneath ones qualifications, thus arrogance rejects this requirement.  That means man sets up religion, and beliefs and other philosophies in order to get around Gods prime requirement.  But arrogance and by it, sin and evil, has to have a method to counter its destructive forces, thus the path to God must go through Christ.

That is the stumbling block of sin, of evil, of arrogance, because these concepts do not like to be relegated to any lower status.  But the funny thing is, both Son and Father are equal, and approaching the Son is in effect the same as approaching the Father.  Arrogance creates its own objection as an insult, when there is no need for such objection.

Paul was sent by God, not man.  He was a messenger to humanity, delivering the message of God.  He was not inventing his own religion.  He was not inventing his own philosophy.  He was not inventing his own belief system or way of life.  Paul did not live a lifestyle that he expected others to follow.

His purpose in life was to write and teach doctrine, taking the principles of the Old Testament, and bringing them to their fruition in the New Testament, which is the completion of Gods purpose and plan through Christ on the Cross.  And, teaching us all of the ultimate purpose that God intends for believers, namely oneness with Him through Christ, in the Spirit, for all of eternity.

And the Father, informs us that the ultimate authority is the Father, who authored the divine plan, while Christ completes the divine plan, and the Spirit sustains the divine plan.

Christ went to the cross, and died two deaths. The first death was His spiritual death when He was receiving the punishment for all of the sins of humanity during those three hours on the cross, under total darkness.  That work then completed, He then died His second death, a physical death, and his body went into the grave.  It was not Christ who raised himself up, but the Father who raised Him, Acts 2:24 Acts 2:32.

And therefore, it is God, who is the only living God, for there is no other, by any other name, who appointed Paul an apostle, a messenger, to write this letter, not only to the Galatians, but to all of humanity who would live after this time.

God gave humanity, from the time of Adam, the information necessary for each individual to be saved and to grow up in their individual spiritual life.  And it is God who is the ultimate chess master who revealed at appropriate times throughout history, that which is necessary, to defeat Satan and evil for all time.

There is no other organization, no group, no religion, no system of bureaucracy, nothing and no one who appointed Paul, no university, no source of any form of credentials, that can claim or lay claim to Paul as their representative or first among them or product of their efforts.

Only God appoints for His intended purpose.  Only God selects those who He will use.  Only God makes or breaks those who would claim authority, according to His plan as it pertains to any course or era in history.

Galatians Introduction

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Galatians Introduction

Galatians, written by Paul.  It was probably written in the mid to late 50’s A.D., perhaps around 57 A.D.

This epistle was addressed to the Galatians.  Galatia was a group of churches that is located in Asia Minor, or what is now known as the center of modern day Turkey.

The people back then were fickle and curious and investigated new things on whims.

Paul visited Galatia on his first journey, Acts 13:51; 14:8, 20, and on his third journey, Acts 18:23.

On his second journey, he was forbidden from preaching there by the Holy Spirit, Acts16:6.

At the time of this letter, the people there were burdened with the concepts of the purity of doctrine and the purity of ones conduct.  They were trying to add works to salvation and the spiritual life, thus perverting the scriptures.

Paul counters this idea with his clarification that Abraham was justified by faith, several centuries prior to the writing of the law by Moses, and teaching that the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit and the riches of the spiritual life come when the Holy Spirit rules the life of the believer, whom He indwells.

Earthly rules established by man tend to bind and imprison people with the burdens of ritual and rules of social works, when they think that that are free, but on fact are not.

The true spiritual life sets free the individual in the truest sense of freedom, when the individual voluntarily submits himself to the will of God through the scriptures.  Thus the subject of Galatians is ‘independence.’
