Psalms 6:10
10 Let all mine enemies ['oyeb] be ashamed [buwsh] and sore [ma`od] vexed: [bahal] let them return [shuwb] and be ashamed [buwsh] suddenly. [rega`] KJV-Interlinear
10 All my enemies shall be ashamed and greatly dismayed; They shall turn back, they shall suddenly be ashamed. NASB
All enemies of God, whether conceptual or philosophical or man caused, should never be successful in their plans against God, against good, against truth.
And here David offers a valid and correct prayer, that all evil will be stopped, unsuccessful, and done so quickly.
The word for ashamed, ‘buwsh,’ means to be made pale, disappointed, delayed, to be confounded.
Sore vexed, means troubled, consternation, trembling.
To return suddenly, means to be turned back, to be reversed in their progress, to be stopped and sent back, to be alarmed, anxious, dismayed, agitated.
Therefore in this psalm, David sheds light on the troubles of the world and how they apply to the believer.
Every believer will face problems, and at times multiple problems, and at times extreme problems during their life.
And while the temptation might be to turn to the world for a solution, there is no solution in the world, for troubles that come from the world.
Therefore, to turn to God is the only solution, but there again the believer has to live their life and abide by Gods rules, or the solutions from God will not be there either.
There is only one way to have a good life in this world, and that is to be obedient to Gods will, as we laid out yesterday.
That will not stop the troubles that the world will throw at you, but life will be far easier, when you have God in your corner during the fight. God in fact will do the fighting for you, but only if you comply with His terms in the spiritual life.
Many people try to define their own spiritual life. And their definition usually includes works, or their effort in some fashion, such that they take to themselves credit for their efforts. And that approach is an error.
God is neither impressed nor accepting of mans efforts. Jesus Christ went to the Cross and did all that was necessary for salvation. All man has to do is believe, in order to receive it.
Jesus Christ controls history. He creates life and takes it away. Man has nothing to do with the creation of life, nor can man remove it or control it.
The Holy Spirit makes the word of God clear and perspicuous and funnels it into and through your human spirit and soul. Man has no part in that process other than listening or reading.
There is nothing in your life with which you may take credit to yourself for anything. God made you. God preserves you within your environment. God shapes you through doctrine.
And if you allow it, then God will defend, preserve, and bless you in every situation imaginable. But, you have to play by His rules, not yours.
Ninety-nine percent of all spiritual lives fail because people do not comply with Gods will. They try to re-invent or re-do, or shape their life on their own efforts, or they pick and choose what Biblical principles they will or will not observe, and through that arrogance, they fail. They try to impress everyone, and end up impressing no one.
They live most of their life out of fellowship, and therefore never have a functional spiritual life, except perhaps in the first few moments following their salvation, and then they skid downhill for the rest of their life.
The secret of the successful spiritual life, is fellowship through daily confession or as often as is necessary, conducting yourself in a daily study such that you learn doctrine, using what you learn so that you gain an understanding, repeating that process daily throughout your life so that you grow and gain wisdom, and most important of all, continuing this path throughout your entire life, and never giving up, especially when the world throws everything it has at you, trying to isolate you from life or from your hopes and dreams.
Cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you. Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Stop worrying about anything, but in everything through prayer and supplication, let your requests be made known unto God. For the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will garrison your heart and mind through Christ Jesus. For of Him, and to Him, and through Him are all things, to whom be glory and majesty, dominion and power, before time, now and forever. Amen (believe it).
