Psalms 5:9

9 For there is no faithfulness [kuwn] in their mouth; [peh] their inward [qereb] part is very wickedness; [havvah] their throat [garown] is an open [pathach] sepulchre; [qeber] they flatter [chalaq] with their tongue. [lashown] KJV-Interlinear

9 There is nothing reliable in what they say; Their inward part is destruction itself; Their throat is an open grave; They flatter with their tongue. NASB

In contrast to people who read and study and learn the scriptures, which are the word of God, which is the truth of life, then there are those who do not read the scriptures, they do not know the word of God, they do not know or understand the truth of life.

Therefore they have only lies to express from their inward part, their soul, and then their their throat as an open grave or their attitude toward life, to their tongue, the actual expression of what they know.

But in lies, deceit is always at the forefront of all evil.

Therefore the tongue expresses flattery, ‘chalaq,’ which refers to smooth stones for tossing lots (like in rolling dice), meaning to be smooth, to divide, to take away, to flatter.

And this, when combined with grave, ‘pathach,’ which is an open grave, ready to receive its occupant, indicates that the tongue is the deceptive element used to take life away, to draw others into the untruths of the beliefs of the evil person who does not know truth.

When truth is expressed it is there for all to accept or reject.  Truth is never there to draw people in without their own free will decision.

Lies, on the other hand, have to draw people in through deception.  If it were not for deception, then lies would have no followers.

Through smooth words, lies try to entice people into false promises, false concepts, false philosophies, false beliefs, false principles, and since anything false is dead to reality, then those who follow it, run straight into a dysfunctional life, ending up with nothing.

But truth is often times boring, and the enticements of the world are, well, enticing.

Anyone with false beliefs cannot be trusted, cannot be confided in.  Their thoughts are false, their motivations are false, their words are false.  They have no honorable conviction.

When their inward parts, their soul, is full of false, then their outward parts, their actions cannot be any better than false.  The sum of false parts, is false.

Depravity, immorality, corruption of the whole, begins with the core life, the soul.  And from depravity, the grave, comes corruption and putridness, and into it goes the same.  Nothing good is ever found in the grave.
