2 And [kai] that [hina] we may be delivered [rhoumai] from [apo] unreasonable [atopos] and [kai] wicked [poneros] men: [anthropos] for [gar] all [pas] men have not [ou] faith. [pistis] KJV-Interlinear

2 and that we may be delivered from perverse and evil men; for not all have faith. NASB

Prayer is required of believers for a couple of reasons. First, in order to keep bible doctrine, God, and Christ, foremost in their minds and thoughts, and second, to appeal to God for help in their situations. Here the situation is the need for doctrine, the food for life, and an instructor, or some means of communicating that doctrine so that the person can learn and utilize it in their life.

The reason for this is to aid in the delivery or rescue of the individual from evil.

The world is saturated with evil. There is nowhere on this planet that you can run to, and escape evil. No place except one, that is. And that one sanctuary place, away from evil is right inside of your soul.

If you have reviewed 1, 2, and 3rd John, then you are familiar with the confession, and fellowship sphere, concepts in the spiritual life. These are two of the very important and basic ingredients necessary for your having a functional spiritual life.

Anyway, prayer, which is submitted to God, for doctrine and the means to learn it, is necessary in order to deliver you from the perverse and the evil of the world.

Delivered, ‘rhoumai,’ means to run, to rush to the rescue, as though the victim is only seconds away from total disaster and therefore time is of the essence, time is critical, there is not a moment to lose in the matter.

What you are praying for from God, is to have the mechanisms available to you, right now.

Unreasonable or perverse, ‘atopos,’ means literally, ‘out of place.’ It refers to people, who are literally out of place in life. Life was designed for people who are, in place, as God has designed. But arrogance and sin has made people slip out of sync with the world and out from reality. So much so, that while the greater portion of the world is out of sync with reality, everyone believes that their out of sync environment, is really how things are supposed to be.

Therefore, out of place, comes to mean disillusioned, foggy eyed, blind, disoriented, lost. And that is exactly how the world is, and how you would be, if you did not have bible doctrine in your soul.

Evil, ‘poneros,’ means malignant, or aggressively wicked. Evil is the general term for the policy of evil, and wickedness is the general term for the action or activity of evil.

Evil is the only, repeat, only result of a disoriented and lost society. A society that lacks bible doctrine.

Without doctrine, instead of God running to deliver, the dysfunctional society is running, rushing with ever increasing speed toward destruction.

This is something that you do not want to find yourself in, ever.

And why does this occur? Because there are many who do not have faith. They lack faith because they lack doctrine. They lack doctrine because they did not take the time to learn it, nor did they want to learn it.

Therefore, if you are indifferent, if you are embarrassed through peer pressure, if you cannot think for yourself, if you are indifferent toward, rebellious toward, disinterested toward, apathetic toward God, Christ, doctrine, and so forth, then you have nothing to look forward to, for your life.

Even telling you to ‘Have a nice day!’ wouldn’t help.
