Isaiah 11:2f

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 11:2g

2 And the spirit [ruwach] of the LORD [Yahovah] shall rest [nuwach] upon him, the spirit [ruwach] of wisdom [chokmah] and understanding, [biynah] the spirit [ruwach] of counsel [`etsah] and might, [gabuwrah] the spirit [ruwach] of knowledge [da`ath] and of the fear [yir'ah] of the LORD; [Yahovah] KJV-Interlinear

2 And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. NASB

Only believers in Jesus Christ have an opportunity to have a relationship with God through Him.

Only believers who are in fellowship have a functioning spiritual environment in which to have a spiritual life.

Only believers have a functional supernatural mechanism for advancing them in their spiritual lives.

Spirit - the power and force of the blast of wind from God in His heaven, a force more powerful than any in this universe, yet undetectable, unseen and unfelt, but very real.

Spirit 1 - fellowship. The mandatory state for the spiritual life to function within.

Spirit 2 - perception. The mandatory daily study activity for learning.

Spirit 3 - understanding. The working knowledge and application to your daily life.

Spirit 4 - counsel. Acknowledging that God is the ultimate authority and guide in life.

Spirit 5 - might. The strength, poise, and stabilizing power of ones soul.

Spirit 6 - wisdom.

This is the ultimate in clarity of thought, discernment, understanding, and awareness of just how life works in this universe.

You achieve an orientation to God and His policies. You achieve an orientation to people and how they function in life and in history. You achieve an orientation and discernment to life and what is true about life and what is not true in life, and what is irrelevant in life. You achieve an orientation to self. Your own thoughts, your own needs, your own wants, and how your own life, will fit into life, into history and into your own future.

In wisdom, you have an understanding of the difference between Gods discipline for believers and Gods judgment of unbelievers. The objectives of both and the repercussions for ones life if the correction is acknowledged or rejected.  You have an understanding of the difference between Gods discipline for negative believers and Gods testing of positive believers. The objectives of both in getting the attention of the negative believer so as to get them back on track in their spiritual life, and the enhanced training of the positive believer so as to strengthen their faith and spiritual might for life.

Your priorities in life are changed to those which are meaningful and correct and you tend to not pursue those priorities that reflect the lusts of the soul and carnal life.

In wisdom, the pattern of your life has changed to follow Gods guidelines and not those of the jungle. Your thoughts and views of life are true and right with lasting insight, common sense and good judgment. You are able to match up facts with reality and therefore you know and understand with confidence.

Your sense of security is unmoved and solid in Gods promises and policy for your life.

19 So then let us pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another. NASB

Peace is the ultimate objective of the spiritual life. It is a completeness in contentment and happiness and is a result in the 'building up' of ones spiritual structure in the soul. Your insecurities have vanished. Your fears are all but gone. You have a level of contentment and happiness that cannot be equaled in any life in the jungle of this world.

You have achieved both a strategic and tactical victory in your spiritual life. The strategic victory came at the Cross when you believed in Christ and were saved. But at that time you were an empty spiritual vessel. The tactical victory comes when you have achieved a significant degree of independence from the chains of this world by means of spiritual growth to spiritual maturity.

And best of all, you are now qualified for those tremendous 'extra' blessings which God gives out only to mature believers.  Blessings for time - Gods making use of you within His plan for human history.  Blessings for eternity - Gods 'beyond' imagination rewards for those who achieve and maintain their spiritual maturity in this life.

Spirit 1 - fellowship. Confession of sins demanded by God in order for you to first be obedient to His rules and second for you to accept responsibility for your life, and third for you to humble yourself and cancel out your arrogance.

Spirit 2 - perception through a daily study program. This is your daily meal of Bible doctrine for your soul. If you do not eat properly, you do not grow up nor will you stay healthy (spiritually healthy).

Spirit 3 - understanding of what you have learned, by means of application, of what you have learned, to your daily life. You pray, you give, you support, you are obedient to Gods commands and so forth. This is the early stage of maturing, of being responsible, of being accountable for all that you think and do.

Spirit 4 is the counsel stage of ones spiritual life. As you have learned through a daily study plan then you begin to set a pattern for your life by means of the principles which Gods teaches you through Bible doctrine.

Spirit 5 - might. Your life is more stable. You have a greater and more relaxed mental attitude. You have greater poise and can deal with problems in a much easier and organized fashion. Things in life do not bother you as much as they did in the past. You have less stress because your confidence is growing, in God and His provision for your situation.

Spirit 6 - wisdom.  The solidifying of the foundation of your soul and the substance upon which faith is constructed and strengthened.

Isaiah 11:2fues

Spirit 3 - understanding of what you have learned, by means of application of what you have learned to your daily life. You pray, you give, you support, you are obedient to Gods commands and so forth. This is the early stage of maturing, of being responsible, of being accountable for all that you think and do.

Spirit 4 - counsel. To whom do you look, for guidance in your everyday life. How you should think. How you should behave.

And this leads us to the fifth concept in the spiritual life. That of 'might.'

Initially you had to get into the mind set for picking up the Bible and studying it, and then studying it on a daily basis. That alone can be a difficult habit just to get started. After all we live in a 'serve me now' society and we expect results quickly. But as the child gets his answer when he asks, 'When will I be grown up?' And the answer is 'Be patient. You will grow up in due time.'

So also we have to be patient in our spiritual life. Gods timing takes us through our entire life. It is not a course in school which we take for a semester or a year and then we pass it and move on to another subject. Our spiritual life is our core life for our entire existence. It is the very foundation of our entire existence. Invest in it properly and you will have a great life both now and in eternity. Approach it with impatience or indifference and you will one day have a huge disappointment for having failed in something that was relatively easy to accomplish.

Might.

That is your power and your stability. As mentioned before. If you get past the daily grind of reading and studying your Bible, after you get past your initial reluctance to join a study group either with people or with an online study such as this one, after you have grown up a bit and have taken it upon yourself to begin to comply with Gods commands (yesterday's study), then you will begin to realize a real change in your life.

Things in life will not bother you quite as much as they did before. So what if you don't get waited on quickly in the store. So what if traffic is so congested in your daily commute. So what if your toast gets burned a bit. So what if the kids left you yet another mess to clean up. So what if you missed your favorite television show.

Life will begin to take on a greater meaning. Your attitude in life will be more relaxed. You won't worry quite as much about the bills and other pressures in life. You will be able to balance your attitude in life with your willingness to be more responsible and more accountable for your thoughts and actions in life.

You won't blame others, but you will be more patient and understanding. You will be more tolerant of others. People have their opinions and many of them will not agree with your newly forming opinions.

One of the first things you will notice about yourself as you continue to advance in your spiritual life, is that your poise will grow more stable. The tornado is crashing down upon your life and you can move in an orderly and quiet fashion toward safety. No panic, but clear and ongoing thinking. 'What do I need to do? Is everyone accounted for?' You demonstrate more concern and oversight for others and the things that need to get done, rather than blaming someone or thinking about your own needs.

Your thoughts are stable. Your resolve is sound. You are more flexible and less rigid in the unimportant things of life (things that others deem more important), and you are more tolerant of how others view life. You are less controlling, less demanding, less nagging.

Your judgment is based on clearer thought and more sound priorities. You are less silly in life. You have put away the silly approaches to God. 'Father, should I get the red or the blue one.'

Your decision processes are clearer to you and less burdensome. Common sense has increased in your thinking process.

You have gained an understanding that, it is God who controls history and your life, and not the circumstances or the environment that you happen to be living in.

Psalm 24:8

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 24:8

8 Who is this King [melek] of glory [kabowd]? The LORD [Yahovah] strong [`izzuwz] and mighty, [gibbowr] the LORD [Yahovah] mighty [gibbowr] in battle. [milchamah] KJV-Interlinear

8 Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle. NASB

And as though two performing parties are calling back and forth, as one might expect from the opposite sides of a choir, then one side commands that the gates be opened, while the other side of the choir responds, for whom are the gates to be opened.

In a city, if the gates are closed and someone approaches and asks that the gates be opened, the gate keeper might ask, ‘Who goes there?’

And the answer follows, ‘the King.’

The Lord who is the king.  The Lord who is mighty in word and deed.  The Lord who is mighty in battle.  It is the King of kings, the Lord of lords, who is sovereign over all things.  The one who is strong within Himself, mighty in acts and action.

It is the one with whom you would be glad to open up not only the gates to your city, the doors to your homes, but also to the inner most dwellings of your hearts.

The king is identified as the Lord.  The king is identified as God.  The Lord is identified as the second person of the Trinity, the Son of God, who is identified throughout the scriptures as Jesus Christ.

Psalm 24:7

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 24:7

7 Lift up [nasa'] your heads, [ro'sh] O ye gates; [sha`ar] and be ye lift up, [nasa'] ye everlasting [`owlam] doors; [pethach] and the King [melek] of glory [kabowd] shall come in. [bow']KJV-Interlinear

7 Lift up your heads, O gates, And be lifted up, O ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in! NASB

When Adam and Eve were in the Garden, they walked and talked with God everyday, and thus they had a relationship with God prior to their fall.  This was Jesus Christ with whom they associated while in the garden.

After their sin, they lost that personal relationship, which was replaced with what is known as the shechinah (sha-ki-na) or shechinah glory.  This is the visible presence or manifestation of God, but not the person Himself.

This first revealing of the shechinah, or visible glory came when they were evicted out of the garden and the glory in the form of a flaming sword turning in every direction, and positioned between to angels, stood guard over the entrance of the garden which was to say standing guard over the tree of life, which is eternal life.

Man cannot gain access to the tree of life except through Christ, the flaming sword.  He is the only means of salvation and eternal life.  Man cannot ever nor is he capable of, gaining eternal life on his own.

And here we have gates or doors that lead to eternity.

Gates or doors are the means of entry into something.  Typically they are used by cities, or homes and when they are closed then those on the outside are denied entry unless they are opened.

This same shechinah was manifested during the exodus, when the Israelites were led by a pillar of fire by night and a cloud by day.  The Egyptians saw this manifestation and were afraid.  The Israelites saw it and were comforted by it.

The Shechinah, a bright light, at times appeared usually within a cloud which shielded the light.  It appeared between the angels on the mercy seat of the Ark of the Covenant, which was located in the inner room of the tabernacle.  That room was called the Holy of Holies.

It was shielded by a huge veil or curtain, which prevented anyone from approaching God on their own.

Only when the work of the cross was completed and the way of salvation secured, and likewise the barrier was removed, then did the huge earthquake tear down that curtain, thus opening up the way of salvation for everyone, making direct access to God now possible.  Christ’s work on the cross was that work.

Christ is that gate, that door, and your faith is the opening wide that access to eternal life.

The cross threw open wide, all barriers, making way for the Lord to enter in, and for eternal life to enter in, to something that was otherwise inaccessible.  You were inaccessible prior to salvation.  God made you accessible.

You did not make yourself accessible to eternal life.

Likwsie, this accessibility is everlasting.  That means that once the gates and doors have been thrown wide open, and you have passed through in faith, then they can never be closed again.  That is eternal security.  You can never lose your salvation. You can never lose your eternal life.  No matter how evil you might become or might think that you are, once saved, always saved.

Christ did the work and Christ did not make any mistakes, did not leave anything out, did not overlook anything or anyone. And that is addressed in the next verse.

Galatians 3:7

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 3:7

7 Know ye [ginosko] therefore [ara] that [hoti] they which are of [ek] faith, [pistis] the same [houtos] are [eisi] the children [huios] of Abraham. [Abraam] KJV-Interlinear

7 Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham. NASB

One of the biggest boasts of culture is the claim to being a descendant of someone they recognize as great within their culture.

This is no less true in the Jewish race.  Even the Muslims claim Abraham as being their father and the beginning of their faith.

With the Jews, Abraham was the go-to figure when they wanted to prove a point, even if their point was wrong.  Somehow just associating a recognized name seems to give credibility to an opinion, any opinion, especially to those who are ignorant of the famous person’s true beliefs or deeds.

And it is that case here.

Abraham set the standard for all generations that follow with respect to the formation and narrowing of the line of Christ.

Adam set the standard in faith as he believed and that belief was evidenced by the clothes from animal skins which he wore.  Those skins came off of dead animals, needless to say, the animals died in the sacrifice ritual that taught the principles of the savior who would crush the head of evil (the serpent).

Abraham set the standard in faith and distinguished the difference between faith and works, making faith the foundation of the spiritual life, and rejecting mans works as the evil distraction from life.

Now, God promised that, in him all nations would be blessed.

That statement has a two-fold purpose.  In him as a descendant, the Messiah would come.  But also, in him as the pattern of faith, all who pursue faith likewise have the right to call him father as he set the pattern of faith for us.

Abraham did not sire us all.  We all came out of Noah through his three sons, but most of us did not descend out of Abraham.  Our family trees came out of innumerable lines that are unrelated to Abraham.

But genealogy is not the topic here, faith is.

By faith we are saved.  By faith we are born into the family of God.  By faith we receive eternal life.  By faith we learn and understand and grow in our spiritual life.  By faith our spiritual lives function as they should.

And faith comes from only one source, which is doctrine, which must be learned and understood and used before it becomes effective and successful in your life.
