Ephesians 3:13

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Ephesians 3:13

13 Wherefore [dio] I desire [aiteo] that ye faint [ekkakeo] not [me] at [en] my [mou] tribulations [thlipsis] for [huper] you, [humon] which [hostis] is [esti] your [humon] glory. [doxa] KJV-Interlinear

13 Therefore I ask you not to lose heart at my tribulations on your behalf, for they are your glory. NASB

Faint, ‘ekkakeo,’ means to cower, to become a coward, to waiver, to lose ones courage, to be fainthearted, to doubt.

Paul was under great pressures and sufferings due to his teaching of scripture. His primary adversaries were the traditional Jews who opposed his teaching of grace, salvation by faith, the end of the Levitical offering system, and so forth, and he was doing this to the gentiles, ‘of all people.’  The Jews were disgusted and insulted and tried to quiet him, just as the attempt to rid the world of Jesus was done decades before.

Therefore Christianity, the ‘new’ thought of the day, was being explained as the original intent of the scriptures all along, and not new at all.

But the prevailing thought of the day was that the scriptures presented a Messiah who would come and rid the world of gentile oppression, and set up the Jews in Gods Kingdom, as they presumed they had a right.

But not so.

And here Paul was teaching salvation and blessings and eternity and so forth for everyone, and yet he was a living example of suffering.  So, what of this ‘new’ faith where there seemed to be only suffering and no blessing?

And today, far too many folks believe that if you are suffering, your life is somehow unblessed, while if you are successful, then your life is blessed of God.  The general expectation of society is that God blesses and relieves the sufferings of people, and if your life is full of pressures, then you must be doing something wrong or this Christian stuff just does not work.

And in some cases where there is true rejection of truth, then there is suffering – India, China, Africa.  And, where there is a foundation of truth, then there is blessing and prosperity – USA and many other countries.

However, this does not mean that evil people cannot be prosperous, for the world is full of prosperous evil types.

And, this does not mean that spiritually advancing people cannot suffer, for one of the primary and fundamental principles of learning and spiritual growth requires some form of suffering, just so you can learn and see life from all aspects and perspectives.  Often times you cannot understand until you have experienced.  And that too is grace from God.  Hardships are often times the best teachers.

If you are spiritually negative, then your economic or physical or social status, be they good or bad, are all irrelevant, for they cannot gain you anything for eternity.

If you are spiritually positive, as legitimately defined by the scriptures (not by your own definition), then your economic or physical or social status, be they good or bad, are all still irrelevant.  For, again, it is your spiritual status that determines your future, not your worldly status.

It was Lazarus that was poor and destitute and died at the gate of the rich man.  Lazarus went to Paradise, the rich man went to Torments.  So, you cannot judge anyone by their external presentation.

Likewise you cannot lose heart, or faith, because the world drops the stinky stuff all over you.  People will lose their health.  People will lose their jobs.  People will lose their business.  People will lose their homes.  People will lose their marriage.  People will lose their family.

This is the devils world and all evil, all wickedness, all bad things regardless of what they are, are due to Satan, never God.

The Garden was perfect, life was perfect.  Satan brought in temptation and then sin and that started all of the deterioration of the human existence, including, but certainly not limited to, death, genetic defects, disease, handicaps of all sorts, and on and on and on.

So, Paul teaches us here, ‘Do not lose heart.’  Regardless of your situation, your faith is far more powerful than your circumstances and certainly more powerful than what people might think of you.

It is far better to lose everything in this life, and maintain your faith, and end up for all of eternity as a winner as a result of your faith.

It is a terrible loss to lose faith, lose everything and never have anything ever.

Faith is the key and power, and faith is maintained by wisdom and wisdom is developed on understanding, and understanding is centered on knowledge, and knowledge must be learned, and learning comes by a daily study of the word of God.

Faith is not by accident or wishes or magic.  Faith is constructed bit by bit, systematically by means of doctrine.

Ephesians 3:12

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Ephesians 3:12

12 In [en] whom [hos] we have [echo] boldness [parrhesia] and [kai] access [prosagoge] with [en] confidence [pepoithesis] by [dia] the faith [pistis] of him. [autos]KJV-Interlinear

12 in whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him. NASB

God the Father is the senior deity, with respect to all that humans and angels strive.

Satan wanted to be ‘like the most high.’  And that is a reference to the Father.  He rejected the Son, and totally ignored the protocol with which God had permitted any access to Himself.

Recall our studies in the beginning of the Psalms, the designation of Son, was a title that one of the trinity took.  Son does not mean descendant or offspring in some form.  But was a mere title that the Godhead came up with in order to require all who approach the designated leader, the Father, must be by means of the second person.

Arrogance rejects this as some form of insult or injury to pride, never wanting to acknowledge any form of subordinate position.  Arrogance always presumes equality or superiority between the parties.  Satan rejected the title and demanded to go right to the top, even though all three members of the Trinity are co-equal, co-infinite, and co-eternal, all possessing the exact same essence characteristics.  The mere existence of a title became a stumbling block.

All of the Godhead are omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent and so forth. Neither of them are lesser than any of the others.  Simply deciding between themselves that one would be called the Father, one would be called the Son and the last would be called the Spirit, changes nothing in their existence or essence.

This does however, make a huge difference to sin as sin cannot stand any designation that seems to classify it as the lesser of anything.

When Adam and Eve were in the Garden, there was only one prohibited tree, out of most probably many tens of thousands of trees, and the single tree could easily have been ignored even forgotten.  However indifference to doctrine made Eve gullible and she fell for the trap that Satan set by pointing her to the single tree.

Lack of doctrine makes you gullible and therefore, you lack discernment and therefore, you make bad choices.

But in Gods plan, sin is replaced with humility and the lack of a need for focusing on the exceptions.  You grow up in grace and you acknowledge Gods mandate, not that of evil.  In Christ, and by no other means, we have access to God the Father, who is the ultimate target of faith.

The word for access, ‘prosagoge,’ means to be presented, to have an audience with, and that presentation in any royal court, is made only by means of some designated high officer.  No one can approach the King on their own, they are accompanied always by some authorized person.

Jesus Christ is that designated person who presents all who wish to approach the Father.  Religion rejects this presentation protocol.

Therefore, through Christ, we have permission to approach and this gives us prayer, a spiritual life, spiritual power, and so forth, because we are allowed to approach the single most powerful person in existence, who is God.  That is the highest honor, the highest recognition that any created being can possess.  Apart from Christ, there is no means of approach to God, none.

Ephesians 3:11

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Ephesians 3:11

11 According to [kata] the eternal [aion] purpose [prothesis] which [hos] he purposed [poieo] in [en] Christ [Christos] Jesus [Iesous] our [hemon] Lord: [kurios]  KJV-Interlinear

11 This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord,  NASB

Purpose, ‘prothesis,’ means resolve, plan, shew-bread (as in the temple tabernacle), setting forth, place before, intent, design.

The word this, is a reference to the previous verses, wherein Paul has listed the plan for salvation, for humanity, for the ages and so forth.

God created the angels a very long time ago.  He must certainly have told them of His plan in some form of detail, which they rejected at some point.  And thus the plan unfolded in the form of humanity and was set out in the various dispensations of human history.  This all culminating in our Church Age, as a result of the historical occurrence of the Cross. Our dispensation summarizes Gods overall intent and purpose, namely people universally indwelled by all members of the Trinity, guided by doctrine, forever.

Our dispensation is characterized by Gods control of history without being physically present, and guiding human history through the completed canon of scripture.  Of course we now only have the mere shadow pattern of Gods plan, but in eternity we will all have a far better personal access to God.  But now, angels do not live here, angels do not have the indwelling of God, angels do not have any control of history or life.  They can merely watch and learn.

Christ completed salvation and thus won the strategic victory of the angelic conflict.  The tactical victory will occur at the Second Advent.

But the point of this verse is to make it very clear that God has a plan.  He originated that plan in eternity past, and that plan continues into eternity future. He has but one plan, not several plans.  He does not have a plan and then renews or modifies it.  God does not have a series of plans or options and then engages one or another depending on how the previous plan works out.

God decreed a single plan in eternity past and that same single plan continues unchanged, unmodified, unencumbered, unhindered, and will continue into eternity future.

And, furthermore, that plan is centered on the person of Jesus Christ.  It was not centered on Mohammed, not on Allah, not on Brahman, not on Buddha, not on anyone or anything else.  Jesus Christ is the single and sole focus of Gods plan.

Access to God (the Father) is through Christ, salvation is through Christ, the spiritual life is through Christ, the creation of all that is, is through Christ, judgment and justice and righteousness are through Christ.  And that is why the world, Satan, religion, philosophy, and evil in every aspect, opposes Christ, because evil rejects Gods plan and the mechanism of Christ which is the central focus of Gods plan.

God purposed it, He made it intentionally with Christ as the single objective and basis of His divine plan.

There is only one Lord of all, and that is Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 5:10

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Isaiah 5:10

10 Yea, [kiy] ten [`eser] acres [tsemed] of vineyard [kerem] shall yield [`asah] one ['echad] bath, [bath] and the seed [zera`] of an homer [chomer] shall yield [`asah] an ephah. ['eyphah] KJV-Interlinear

10 "For ten acres of vineyard will yield only one bath of wine, And a homer of seed will yield but an ephah of grain."  NASB

A bath is a measure of liquid, and equates to about eight gallons.  Typical production of ten acres of vineyard should produce about 500 baths or about 4000 gallons.  However, the economy is such that only a single bath or only eight gallons are produced where 4000 gallons were expected.

A homer is a measure of seed or about eight bushels.  An ephah is one-tenth of a homer.  So do the math.  You plant eight bushels and produce only one-tenth of that amount, or far less than you planted.  The bushel should produce anywhere from thirty to forty times its own amount, and certainly not less than its starting quantity.  That means that the land is simply not producing.  Losses are great.

Thus the reason for empty homes, poor production, poor return, loss on investment, poverty, and so forth.

And again, remember that the majority of Isaiah, even though his prophecies were for times more near to his time in history, they all point to the end days, which will be the last seven years of human history, which is still future.

We have already studied the book of Revelation, and if you recall, there will be a time during those years, that the economies of the world will collapse, the production of the world will collapse and the necessary items for life, as well as the luxury products, will vanish of the retail shelves and people will not only cry over their loss, but they will die from starvation, among other things.

The wine represents the luxuries as well as the common things of life. The grains represents the staples or bread and butter of life.

All of this because of the rejection of truth, of doctrine, of God, of Christ, and so forth.  When people reject truth, then they look to the world and the world produces far less than ones expectations.  Only doctrine produces more.

Look to any country even in our current day, any country that has a track record of rejection of Christ, and you will find phenomenal poverty which exceeds the imagination, and even if you visited those places you would still not believe how any person could survive in that environment.  Needless to say most of those places pursue Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and similar religions.  And those things bring disaster to generation after generation within that region.

They lack production, they lack innovation, they lack commerce of any significant quantity.  India has terrible poverty.  China has terrible poverty.  Other places have similar situations. Only the presence of our Church Age dispensation prevents those countries from total collapse.

When the end days come, which will occur in the Tribulation, then the entire world will look far worse that the worst place we have currently.  And that alone makes the Tribulation the most terrible time period in all of human history.  And yet, as we have already studied, the vast majority of the worlds population will continue to reject Christ and instead will pursue an anti-christ that will be driving them all to oblivion.

Rejection of Christ, doctrine, and truth, will lead your life to disaster, regardless of your status or accomplishments, or acquisitions in this life. The world offers enticements in everything but produces nothing.
