7 For [gar] they that sleep [katheudo] sleep [katheudo] in the night; [nux] and [kai] they that be drunken [methusko] are drunken [methuo] in the night. [nux] KJV-Interlinear

7 For those who sleep do their sleeping at night, and those who get drunk get drunk at night. NASB

Typically people rest and sleep during the night, and they are awake and active during the day. That is by design and that is the way that most of the world generally operates.

Drunkenness is generally an activity of the night and frowned upon during the day.

When a person is drunk during the day, then that is viewed as a dishonor, since during the daylight hours a person is expected to be sober.

If a person is active and drunk during the night, and hung-over and asleep during the day, then he is looked upon as having his priorities backwards.

Normal people sleep during the night, and abnormal people use the nighttime for drunkenness and carousing.

The whole point of this analogy is that, those who possess and maintain a spiritual life, function normally during their life. Their work hours and sleep hours are irrelevant. A spiritually active person can work nights and sleep days with perfect normalcy.

However, those who do not possess or maintain their spiritual life, function abnormally. Again their work hours and sleep hours are irrelevant, however for all practical purposes, their activities of life will follow their spiritual dysfunction and they will function in abnormal patterns in life. This is simply an overt manifestation of the lack of their inner spiritual life.

Though not mentioned here, there are many sorts of dysfunctional behavior patterns, which are indicators of the lack of a spiritual life in people in general. Men will act feminine, women will act masculine, people will pursue non-biblical principles in life, and so forth. This can be a pretty long list of activities or behavior patterns that run contrary to how people are generally expected to behave or function in life.

And though you should not judge others, you certainly have the powers of observation, so you can see for yourself, how the world operates. Just keep your thoughts to yourself, of course.
