Isaiah 30:24

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 30:24

24 The oxen ['eleph] likewise and the young asses [`ayir] that ear [`abad] the ground ['adamah] shall eat ['akal] clean [chamiyts] provender [baliyl], which hath been winnowed [zarah] with the shovel [rachath] and with the fan [mizreh].   KJV-Interlinear

24 and the oxen and the donkeys that work the ground will eat seasoned fodder, which has been winnowed with shovel and fork.   ESV

Continuing from the previous verse, Isaiah describes how phenomenal the prosperity will be. Typically in an agricultural setting, crops are planted and harvested, and the best of the seed, and the best of the harvest is held back for sale, or for storage and future sale, or for future planting.

The best of the crop is certainly not fed to the animals.

However, in the scenario being described, the harvest will be so abundant, and the prosperity so phenomenal, that even the animals will be eating the best of the best foods.

Donkeys that ear the ground, is a phrase describing their work in pulling a plow. And the oxen and the donkeys, are the working beasts of the ancient farm. They would be typically fed what was available, and certainly not the best of the crop.

However, in the millennium, everything will change. The burdens of life from the past and present will no longer be in effect. Because, we now have a description of the abundance that will become available to those who have already turned their lives to Christ, and who have survived, by the grace of God, the disasters of the tribulation.

God is truth. Anything that is not God related, is false.

Turning to God through Christ, by way of doctrine, is turning toward truth, and the ultimate success that it provides.

Turning away from God, is turning toward the false, and certain disaster and failure.

Life does not exist only in this physical world. If you have noticed, the generations of the past are no longer here and yet time marches on. When we are gone, time will continue tomorrow, next year, and on and on, and our presence is not required for the continuation of time.

Therefore, it is wise not only to plan for this life, but more so for the next.

Isaiah 30:23

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 30:23

23 Then shall he give [nathan] the rain [matar] of thy seed [zera`], that thou shalt sow [zara`] the ground ['adamah] withal; and bread [lechem] of the increase [tabuw'ah] of the earth ['adamah], and it shall be fat [dashen] and plenteous [shamen]: in that day [yowm] shall thy cattle [miqneh] feed [ra`ah] in large [rachab] pastures [kar].   KJV-Interlinear

23 And he will give rain for the seed with which you sow the ground, and bread, the produce of the ground, which will be rich and plenteous. In that day your livestock will graze in large pastures,  ESV

Your life and future and destiny are a direct result of your compliance, or lack of it, with Gods plan and design.

Jesus Christ is the provider of everything. He provides the rain, which is symbolic of a life-giving resource. You sow the seed in the ground, which is your work. The bread is the resulting production from that seed, after it has been harvested and ground into flour, and made into bread.

Rich and plenteous, is terminology of success.

Livestock grazing in large pastures, is terminology of wealth, great wealth.

All of this blessing, is not a result of your work, or of your effort, or of your attitude.

All of this blessing, is a direct result of your compliance with Gods plan, and your obedience in following that plan. Which means your pursuit of a daily study, your living in the environment of fellowship, your advancement through the spiritual process, toward spiritual maturity.

These events are directed toward the final days of history, wherein after the tribulation, and after all of the destruction that will occur in that tribulation, and after people have turned away from the things of the world, and turned back toward Christ, then in the millennium, prosperity will explode for everyone.

The phrase, in that day, ties this passage to the end of the tribulation and the beginning of the millennium.

But this entire passage, ties life for each and every one of us, to our consistency in pursuing our spiritual life, and the results that God will provide because of our compliance with His plan.

This does not mean that you will become wealthy in this life. But it does mean that compliance with Gods plan in this life, means the certainty of great success, and prosperity, and wealth in eternity.

Psalm 38:1b

Copyright  2015 J. Neely
Psalm 38:1b

1 A Psalm [mizmowr] of David [David], to bring to remembrance [zakar].
O LORD [Yahovah], rebuke [yakach] me not in thy wrath [qetseph]: neither chasten [yacar] me in thy hot displeasure [chemah].   KJV-Interlinear

1 A Psalm of david, for the memorial offering.
O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath!

God provides blessing when your life is in conformance with His will, and on the other hand, God can hand out discipline. The former is the more preferable, and the latter is one in which the abundance from God will prevent His discipline, if you fail in your life in sin.

David had found himself in sin and this psalm is an expression of his deep concern that Gods displeasure was about to be unloaded on him.

Therefore, David offers a prayer that Gods discipline will not be dealt to him in hot anger, but in the mercy of grace. Where on the one hand, the anger of God conveys unbelievable destruction, as would be applied to unbelievers in their total destruction forever.

The grace of God, on the other hand, conveys a far lesser degree of punishment, where the point is well understood, and the pain is mitigated.

To rebuke is typically one of the use of words, to scold someone. While the use of the word for chasten, is a reference to physical punishment. Both placed together refers to the harsh judgment that can be brought against an offending person.

David is anticipating the worst case scenario of punishment against himself, and begins his prayer, requesting that the punishment will not be so harsh.

Psalm 38:1

1 A Psalm [mizmowr] of David [David], to bring to remembrance [zakar].
O LORD [Yahovah], rebuke [yakach] me not in thy wrath [qetseph]: neither chasten [yacar] me in thy hot displeasure [chemah].   KJV-Interlinear

1 A Psalm of david, for the memorial offering.
O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath!

Most people are confused about as to the correct application of this principle. This is the third of the seven penitential Psalms, also called Psalms of confession. Those Psalms are 6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, and Psalm 143. This Psalm is a reference to remembrance, which is a reference to remembering the Sabbath. This is also related to what we were commended by Jesus regarding the communion, this do in remembrance of me.

Remembrance and confession, are tied together in that they constantly put God and Christ and truth and doctrine and ones spiritual life, in the forefront of one’s thoughts and focus on life.

Throughout this Psalm, it is demonstrated to show the deepest marks of utter prostration of the soul, before God, under a combination of the severest mental and physical trials that we face in life.

The believer in Christ is, or should be, continually under the pressure of Gods displeasure with the believers transgressions, by grief at the desertion of friends, by fear of the attacks and onslaughts of enemies, and by the burdens that disease and illness and the handicaps of life constantly pose.

The Sabbath, was a day that was set aside for rest and reminder, among other things, that it is Christ who should be the center of our life, rather than the things of this world.

Remembrance of Christ, is the similar process in our current day, for a rest and reminder, that Christ should be the center of our life, rather than the things of this world.

Spiritual maturity, and living in fellowship, is the ultimate objective of the Sabbath concept and the remembrance of Christ concept, in that we should be living within the fellowship sphere, advancing toward spiritual maturity, wherein our life will finally achieve a moment by moment rest and reminder of Christ and all that He stands for.

We are not to be good Christians one day of the week, and hell raisers on the other six days.

Our objective and obligation and responsibility, is to live in a moment by moment continual rest, not a one day a week rest. The Sabbath and remembrance concepts, teach this moment by moment rest principle which is only achieved through advancement to spiritual maturity.

Therefore we have these reminders, that it is our responsibility to look to God and to Christ and to heaven first, through doctrine. It is Bible doctrine that gives us the inner resources and structure of soul, that becomes an integral part of our very essence.

This ends the introduction of Psalm 38. We will continue with the study a verse one tomorrow.
