Psalm 32:10

Copyright Ó 2014 J. Neely
Psalm 32:10

10 Many [rab] sorrows [mak'ob] shall be to the wicked [rasha`]: but he that trusteth [batach] in the LORD [Yahovah], mercy [checed] shall compass [cabab] him about.  KJV-Interlinear

10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, lovingkindness shall surround him.   NASB

The single biggest contrast in all of creation, is between Gods grace and mans sorrow.  In your life you will be surrounded by one or the other, and your choice to pursue, or not pursue, your daily bible study will decide.

Trust, ‘batach,’ means a refuge wherein you place yourself within the environment designed by God, in order to be secure, to be safe, to be protected, to be prospered, to have a happy life with confidence and divine security, and far more.

Within Gods design you are surrounded, and not just on four sides but all around as though you were within a protective sphere.

Outside of Gods design, you are in sorrow.  There you have no hope, no future, no blessing per se.

Outside of Gods design is the residence of the wicked.  And wickedness is not restricted to ugly ghouls, but is the place of indifference and apathy and resistance and rejection of Gods truth.

Someday you will stand before Christ and He might well ask you to tell your story.  Will you say, ‘Well, I said amen a lot!’

Do you think that will impress Him?

Christ expects you to learn and know and grow in your spiritual life, so that you can reside in, and benefit from, His grace.

But of course, you can choose to reside in sorrow, which won’t earn you any points in life.

Psalm 32:9

Copyright Ó 2014 J. Neely
Psalm 32:9

9 Be ye not as the horse [cuwc], or as the mule [pered], which have no understanding [biyn]: whose mouth [`adiy] must be held [balam] in with bit [metheg] and bridle [recen], lest [bal] they come near [qarab] unto thee.  KJV-Interlinear

9 Do not be as the horse or as the mule which have no understanding, Whose trappings include bit and bridle to hold them in check, Otherwise they will not come near to you.   NASB

Israel has constantly been referred to as a stiff necked people, stubborn and resistant toward listening to and obeying the principles and mandates of God. And likewise so many people fail because they read just a little bit and go no further, resisting and not pursuing further, the teachings of doctrine.

And the comparison is made to horses and mules, and not tame animals, but wild ones, because they have a mind of their own, which is a mind that lacks human intellect and reason.

So, the animals have an excuse for their behavior.  It takes a bridle and bit to control them, for in the wild, their very nature is to run and evade capture, and not cooperate.  So they do only that which comes natural to them.

Man, on the other hand, has no excuse.  Man has intellect and reason.  Man can see the difference between right and wrong.  Man can decide to reject right for wrong, or wrong for right as the case may be.

But again, in his natural element, man is total depravity and will fail utterly, were it not for God and Gods grace provisions.

Man has to be taught right from wrong.  Man cannot discover those truths.  Man has to be taught truth, and from that develop understanding and wisdom.  Man cannot achieve understanding or wisdom on his own.

But with a spiritually negative attitude, man is no better than the wild horse or stubborn mule.  Today we have slang terms like calling someone a dog or dumb as a rock, which it is all of a similar meaning, and not too complimentary.

Refusal to learn or use common sense becomes the epitome of stubbornness and stupidity.

Granted there are many levels of intelligence in people in this world, and what some can understand, not too many others can achieve that level of understanding.

But in the spiritual life, God the Holy Spirit is the true instructor, and He makes truth clear and perspicuous to everyone regardless of their talents or handicaps.

So, no one has any excuse.

But everyone does have an obligation to pursue truth in order to learn it and know it.  And this is determined by their own decision to want doctrine and to pursue it, or not.

Man has no excuse for not advancing in his spiritual life.  Only man can prevent himself from advancing.

When people call you names you can just ignore them because the names mean nothing.

But when God describes you with some derogatory term, then you really need to sit up and take notice!

Romans 1:18

Copyright Ó 2014 J. Neely
Romans 1:18

18 For [gar] the wrath [orge] of God [theos] is revealed [apokalupto] from [apo] heaven [ouranos] against [epi] all [pas] ungodliness [asebeia] and [kai] unrighteousness [adikia] of men [anthropos], who hold [katecho] the truth [aletheia] in [en] unrighteousness [adikia];  KJV-Interlinear

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,  NASB

Paul now begins to make the point of this chapter and of the next two chapters, in that there are only two possible plans for salvation, Gods plan of grace and mans plan of works under the Law.

Paul will show that mans plan was the path chosen by both Jew and Gentile, and that plan failed.

That leaves but one plan, which is Gods plan of grace, or Jesus Christ’s work on the Cross, which we receive benefit of, through faith.

The gospel and salvation are revealed from heaven.  It is not invented by man, imagined by man, discovered by man.

It is God who authored the divine plan, and revealed it to man.

Look back through any culture, any race, on any continent, and you will find no shortage of examples of religious sacrifices of one sort or another.  The very first sacrifice was taught to Adam and Eve, by Jesus Christ Himself when He provided them with clothes of animal skins.  Where did those skins come from?

God taught Adam and Eve, as well as Cain and Abel, and beyond, the difference between His sacrifice and promise of a savior, as opposed to any other sacrifice like the one which Cain tried to introduce.

Gods plan alone is just and correct, never mans.

But as history continued races spread out across the planet and sacrifices, both human and animal, were continued even as they were falsified and corrupted into evil purposes.

But the original teaching was from God, to Adam and passed down from there to the generations.

Adam and Even knew the purpose of the sacrifices.  That man was evil and that man had no answer for his own evil except through Gods work.

Man cannot live the perfect life.  Only God can.  Man cannot achieve the perfect life.  That comes only from God, through faith, and the substance of faith, which is Bible doctrine.

And through doctrine, and the gospel, which addresses the need for salvation, is Gods wrath revealed as well.

What happens when a person refuses to believe in Christ?  They go to the Lake of Fire.  This is the teaching of Gods justice.

Justice demands perfection and perfection comes only from God.

Imperfect man cannot make himself perfect.

And since truth comes only from heaven, then all evil comes from this world, or outside of heaven.  And in evil is truth suppressed.

Evil tries to prevent truth, tries to corrupt truth, tries to compromise truth, tries to water truth down, tries to make truth reduced to mans level for a lower standard.

All people know truth from the lie.  Both Jew and Gentile.

And despite their phenomenal privilege, even the Jews failed in that privilege. They still tried to keep the Law even though they had the scriptures that spelled out that the Law was not the way.

The Gentiles, from Adam to Noah, to Job, to Abraham, and beyond even up until our present day, likewise knew of and know the truth from the lie, but invention after invention has produces hundreds and hundreds of religions and philosophies that prove the failure of the gentiles as well.

Man cannot achieve the level of God or even of creation, from the source of his own energy.

Religions are not noble.  Dedication to religion is not noble.  That is the stupidity of fools.  And worse than that, it is their destruction, eternal destruction.  Where is the nobility in destroying oneself forever?

So, God alone reveals truth.  The Bible reveals truth.  But, that revealing is made clear only when one is in a state of perfection, that is, in fellowship.  Then God alone makes truth clear and understandable, otherwise it is nothing more than foolishness to those who are not in fellowship.

All unbelievers are perpetually out of fellowship, and disobedient believers are out of fellowship.

Man invents lies and suppresses truth.  This is clear throughout history in philosophy, politics, religion, and so forth.
