Isaiah 12:2

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 12:2ues

2 Behold, God ['el] is my salvation; [yashuw`ah] I will trust, [batach] and not be afraid: [pachad] for the LORD [Yahh] JEHOVAH [Yahovah] is my strength [`oz] and my song; [zimrath] he also is become my salvation. [yashuw`ah] KJV-Interlinear

2 "Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; For the Lord God is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation." NASB

The word, ‘el,’ is a name for deity and means strength, power, strong, almighty.

Lord, ‘yahh,’ means sacred one, or a vehement statement of force behind the word Lord.

Jehovah, is the typical word used of the God of the Israelites, as opposed to all other gods that the world invents.  It is the second person of the trinity, and the personal name for the Messiah.  It means self-existent one, or eternal one.  This is also a form of the first person name of God, which was given to Moses, ‘I Am,’ or ‘ehyeh,’ which too means, I am the self-existent one, when spoken to Moses, God identified Himself as the actual God Himself speaking directly to Moses and not a voice  that was speaking through some intermediate method of communication.  That made it very dramatic and fearful for Moses to be speaking directly with God.

And so we have here, that God the one and only God, the true and self-extent one, is the source of salvation.

Salvation, comes from no other source but God.

Not from any other invented god, for all other gods are invented.  Not from some world philosophy, which too is invented with complete disregard for God and truth.  Not from wishes, not from good intentions, not from sincerity, not from any angel or animal of celestial body, not from any other source.

The God, the one and only God of Israel, who is the Messiah, who was born to Mary, and named Jesus, this one is the source of salvation, and there is no other salvation in existence.

And quoting for the song of Moses, Ex. 15, God is our source of strength.  He is our life.  He is our will.  He is our confidence.  He is our wisdom and knowledge.  For God is both living and written. And as to the living, He is real.  And as to written, that is our connection to reality and understanding and orientation and life.

And song, points to the music of fulfillment and happiness and contentment welling out from within ones soul.

Music is an expression of emotion and appreciation and contentment and happiness, and music from within ones soul often times cannot be expressed in terms of words, but in deep feelings of thought that too, have difficulty in finding the right words to express them, thus the song, the music, the deep expressions for which there are no words.

To become my salvation, is an expression repeated here for the spiritual life after salvation.

Salvation occurs in a single moment and is complete.  But after salvation, a person lives on for decades and decades and such.  Life after being saved, incorporates the whole growing up process, the whole learning process, the gaining of knowledge and wisdom and understanding, and all of that leads to an even greater song, that is a mature adults version of a younger persons song, but with greater depth and personal meaning.

And often times in life you will arrive at a place when all you have is your deep inner feelings.  Typically they are connected with extreme grief or sorrow or anxieties when pleading for relief or help. But this is the similar expression herein described, but from the perspective of having been delivered from some form of extreme trial.

Those folks who will be delivered out from the extremes of the Tribulation, will have endured through the most terrible time in all of human history and as such their inner expressions will be overpowering.

Psalm 25:10

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 25:10

10 All the paths ['orach] of the LORD [Yahovah] are mercy [checed] and truth ['emeth] unto such as keep [natsar] his covenant [bariyth] and his testimonies. [`edah] KJV-Interlinear

10 All the paths of the Lord are lovingkindness and truth To those who keep His covenant and His testimonies. NASB

In the last verse, we saw that God teaches anyone and everyone who is willing to learn and who wants to learn.

And for those who want to learn and then actually pursue their learning in accordance with Gods methods for learning, then the path of their life will be mercy, Gods mercy, and truth, Gods truth.

Mercy, ‘checed,’ means grace in action. This is the actual activity of Gods doing something for the believer.  Gods policy is grace.  Grace is Gods favor.  And if you ever want any favors done for you by anyone, then God is the person of choice.  After all He is omniscient, omnipotent and eternal and that alone means that He has infinite resources and can do anything and more.

So, a favor from God is better than a sure winner, better than money in the bank so to speak.

Truth, ‘emeth,’ means that God is consistent and unchangeable, reliable and just, dependable and secure. In all that God is and does, the believer can be certain that God will be honest and fair, actually more than fair, and His mercies will be far more than expected.

But, are these gifts automatic?  No.

They go to those who are willing to obey Gods covenant and testimonies.

Covenant, ‘bariyth,’ means command or law. God keeps up His end of the bargain, and you need to keep up your end of the bargain.  Gods commands and laws are the principles taught within the content of the Bible.

Testimonies, ‘edah,’ means Gods views, teachings, the content of His words. In other words, the content of the scriptures.  The Bible is the sum total of that which God bears witness to as true and right.

So, how can you keep Gods words?  You have to learn them first, and even that is one of the requirements of Gods mandates.

But before you learn, you have to want to learn.  And learning in the spiritual life is not a short term class, but a dedicated life long study of the scriptures for your entire life.  There is no time off for vacations away from truth.  It is a commitment that you must make to God, in order to have the greatest impact of His blessings, on your life.

Maintaining a belligerent or defiant or indifferent attitude gains you nothing.

Have you ever heard people say, ‘Why me?’  And have they ever looked, objectively, at their own life and figured out that it was they who failed, not God.

In all of Gods paths, and this does mean all, there is nothing but truth, and blessing.  There is no evil, no sin, no disgrace, no cheating, no shenanigans, nothing that could be construed as betrayal or a letdown or an indifference toward you.

God has your best interests in mind.

Unfortunately most folks try to take shortcuts in life and they are their own worst enemy.

Psalm 25:9

Psalm 25:9

9 The meek [`anav] will he guide [darak] in judgment: [mishpat] and the meek [`anav] will he teach [lamad] his way. [derek] KJV-Interlinear

9 He leads the humble in justice, And He teaches the humble His way. NASB

The meek, ‘anav,’ here refers not to cowardly, sniveling, whining types of people, but it refers to humble, poised, gentle, open minded and willing to learn, and willing to accept instruction types of people.

A large man who can be rough and tough, can be meek, just as well as some little girl or small person.  Size of stature is irrelevant.  Attitude and self-controlled behavior and willingness to listen and learn are everything.

Who can learn?  Those who want to listen.  Who can be taught?  Those who want to learn.

Who cannot learn?  Those who do not want to listen.  Who cannot be taught?  Those who do not want to learn.

God offers information.  Gods information is truth.

Most people unfortunately are not interested in learning in the way that God teaches.  They presume that they can learn everything they need, on their own and therefore are not interested in listening to anyone else, unless of course what someone says happens to interest them.

A daily study is inconvenient.  An academic setting is the establishment.  And people in general reject or are resentful of anything that resembles this approach to learning.  They prefer to do, well, nothing.  Because they know enough or they can figure things out for themselves, or what they already think they know, is good enough.  These are not the meek.

The meek know that there is far more to learn than they will ever be able to learn.

The meek know that preconceived ideas or ritual habits are most probably misleading and wrong.

The meek have a thirst for knowledge.  They seek and test and listen and sort out continually.

The meek let God reveal the truths of life, and do not impose their standards in an effort to force their interpretations.

All truth comes from God, and from no other source.  The world is not a source of truth.

In order to learn truth, you have to learn from God.  To learn from God, you have to learn in the way in which He teaches and in accordance with the process of His teaching.  You cannot do it on your own.

In judgment, ‘mishpat,’ in the correct understanding of things, in the proper orientation of things to life and to reality.

God provides us with the information to be able to know and to discern between the real and the false of life.

His way, ‘derek,’ in the way in which God would have things go, which is the correct way, the right way, not in some delusional way or some way of pretense.

Mans natural tendency is to stray off on some tangent laced with evil or sin or disregard for truth.  Even false tendencies of spirituality are invented conveniences to justify evil or sinful activities so as to make them more acceptable by society and life in general.

But when your desire for knowledge is legitimate and objective and when you are willing to learn as God teaches, then God will provide you with the right information, with the truths of life, with the correct directions for life, and you can be assured that God will not lead you astray, or deceive you, but will place your best interests ahead of those of the world or evil.

Galatians 3:19

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 3:19

19 Wherefore [tis] then [oun] serveth the law [nomos]? It was added [prostithemi] because of [charin] transgressions, [parabasis] till [achri] [hou] the seed [sperma] should come [erchomai] to whom [hos] the promise was made; [epaggello] and it was ordained [diatasso] by [dia] angels [aggelos] in [en] the hand [cheir] of a mediator. [mesites] KJV-Interlinear

19 Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed should come to whom the promise had been made. NASB

So, Paul asks, what is or was the purpose of the Law?

And he answers his own question, because of sin.  Because people need to see the futility of their own efforts and look to the promise of Gods promise through faith.

Man was never intended to work, but to be the beneficiary of blessing through Gods gifts.

And yet most people choose works and thus gain nothing.

The law which Moses wrote in the first books of the Bible, included numerous rituals, sacrifices, feast days and various celebrations as well as moral codes of conduct, not the least of which was the ten commandments.

God made a promise to Abraham, long before the days of Moses, and that promise was directed toward one particular seed, namely Jesus Christ.  In Christ was that promise to be fulfilled.

But until that person came into history, or until Jesus was born and then completed His work and life on the Cross, the Law was a ritual requirement such that people would have constantly before them, the state of perfection, which no one could possibly attain, but was the result of sin, which consumed everyone's life, and the need for another of whom could fulfill the law and create a path to real justification.  A justification that the Law could not provide.

Thus the Law served to enhance the understanding of the nature of sin and of the impossibility of removing sin from ones own life.  For until the Messiah came and fulfilled the law and then made the way possible for real salvation, then the Law served as a reminder as well as a teaching aid, so that people would not look upon their own works, but on the work of God.

But of course people did not do that.

The promise was made and fulfilled in Christ.  Faith is the basis for that promise which not only covers ones salvation and eternal life, but also in the growth and development of ones daily spiritual life.

The Law, on the other hand, only pointed out that living a perfect life was impossible, and that impossibility would only end up with eternal condemnation.  So the nature of sin was not simply doing something wrong and perhaps getting a punishment for it, but it points to a much greater and more severe result with eternal rejection, which we call the Lake of Fire.  A lesser result of the law for believers would be that works hinders ones spiritual growth and thus limits or removes eternal reward.

In either case, the end result for anyone would be loss and failure in varying degrees, Jn. 7:19.

Ordained by angels, is a principle that most folks are not aware of with regard to the law as it was received by Moses.  We are all probably familiar with movies and God dramatically writing the ten commandments by lightning and fire and such as the movie industry does with artistic drama.

But what really happened was that God was attended by many tens of thousands of angels during this event.  And Moses was the mediator between God and the Israelite people, Jn. 1:17.

Ordained, ‘diatasso,’ means to command, to order, or to set in order, to distance, to set apart.

The Law was set in contrast with Christ.  Here the word for angels, ‘aggelos,’ infers a distancing, a sternness, an alienation between heaven and man.

Angels represent heaven and Moses represents man.  Between the two there is a great distance that cannot be overcome by man. Man cannot mediate his own agreement with himself. He needs a mediator that represents both and is equal with both heaven and earth.  Jesus Christ fulfilled that role, Heb. 12:18-24.

Angels laid down the text and contexts of the Law, which declared it unchangeable and unalterable, Heb. 2:2, Acts 7:53.  Thus the Law or works, cannot be modified or compromised in order to make them or it, acceptable and a viable path to righteousness.

And yet far too many people pursue their works or their own efforts in lieu of what they are commanded to pursue.  Namely they will themselves to wisdom rather than study themselves to wisdom.  And in that there is huge difference.

Pretending to be on the Christian path is far different than proactively studying daily under instruction and within the fellowship sphere.  The daily study idea seems to be demeaning and too much trouble for most.

They reject Gods command and mandate and they prefer their own methods of righteousness, and that is why they will fail.  Perhaps this is your reason for failure?

The countless numbers of angels who attended the Lord were not mere spectators.  And their intervention in acting out the volitions of God might be ascribed to all the physical sights and sounds which gave to the giving of the Law, its extreme horror. ‘They raised the fire and smoke; they shook and rent the rock; they framed the sound of the trumpet; they effected the articulate voices which conveyed the words of the Law to the ears of the people, and therein proclaimed and published the Law; whereby it became ' the word spoken by angels',’ Deut 33:2; Ps 68:17; Ex 19:16,19.

The mediator was Moses, who received the words, wrote them down, and then presented them to the Israelites and to generations thereafter, Deut. 5:5.

In contrast, faith was ordained by God and confirmed and mediated by Christ.

The Law was intended to reveal fear and failure.

The promise by faith was to reveal security and success.

Galatians 3:18

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 3:18

18 For [gar] if [ei] the inheritance [kleronomia] be of [ek] the law, [nomos] it is no more [ouketi] of [ek] promise: [epaggelia] but [de] God [theos] gave [charizomai] it to Abraham [Abraam] by [dia] promise. [epaggelia] KJV-Interlinear

18 For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise. NASB

The Law refers to the written text of Moses, which in turn refers to the efforts of man to live a prefect life in accordance with the requirements of the Mosaic Law.

Also, if a person chooses to live their life in accordance with the Law, then they are also committed to enduring the threats and punishments that accompany the Law.

Faith in contrast to the Law is set apart herein so that they both are unrelated and disconnected from each other.  That means that you cannot live by both simultaneously, but must live by one or the other as they are mutually exclusive.

That means that when God made promises, then the promises attended one and not both paths to the promises.

If the promise attached to the Law, then it could not attach to the faith.  If the promise attached to faith, then it cannot attach itself to the Law.

And when we get into the next couple of verses, then that distance between the two views will become clearer as the Law was not given by God, but by angels, to Moses and thus to the people.  The alignment of the angels and their part in this paints a picture of distancing and separation between God and creation.  Whereas, the promise comes through the seed of Abraham, namely Christ, and thus the separation is closed and made non-existent.  But more on that when we get there.

But God gave the promise to Abraham.  The word gave, means a lavish gift of infinite and enduring effect.  The promise was given and documented long before the Law.  The promise was given directly by God to man, and not through another intermediary as was the Law.

And of course the mention of the inheritance, means that which is given as a permanent possession.  God gives and man receives, and the gift and possession are both one and the same and they are permanent.  Once God gives you something, then you can never lose it.

Better to invest in Gods gift, than in mans effort.
