Galatians 3:11

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 3:11

11 But [de] that [hoti] no man [oudeis] is justified [dikaioo] by [en] the law [nomos] in the sight [para] of God, [theos] it is evident: [delos] for, [hoti] The just [dikaios] shall live [zao] by [ek] faith. [pistis] KJV-Interlinear

11 Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, " The righteous man shall live by faith. " NASB

Quoting from the Old Testament again, Hab. 2:4, Paul herein again states and confirms his argument that no person can be justified by the law, but that there is only one way of justification, and that way is by means of faith and faith alone.

Justification occurs in two phases.  The first phase is of course salvation, wherein when you believe in Christ then you are saved and bound for heaven instead of the Lake of Fire.  This takes but a moment in time.

The second aspect of justification is the spiritual edification or structure that is constructed within your soul, as God through doctrine and the spiritual life, brings you to a point of completion.  This takes the rest of your life.

Salvation is not your completion, it is merely a new birth, thus it is said when you believe in Christ, that you are born again.

And it should be obvious that when you are born, the next aspect of your life is to grow up. This is true for your physical life and it is true with your spiritual life. Birth takes a very short time.  The rest of your life takes years and years and years.

No one is born complete.

After you have been born, you have to learn how to speak and to read and write and think and on and on.  The spiritual life is the same.

Granted you may know a great deal of biblical information, even the complete stories that are in the bible prior to being saved, but when you are saved, even at an older age, your spiritual life is just getting started.  That knowledge in your mind is academic knowledge, not spiritual edification.  And spiritual edification takes time and the reconstruction of all of that knowledge in your soul in a spiritual form with spiritual results.

Faith is the key.  Faith is Gods work within you, not your work within yourself.

The Law represents the energy of ones own effort for oneself, hoping that God will approve of your own efforts.  But not so. Works lead to nothing.

Faith is the one and only mechanism of functioning and advancing within Gods plan, and ones own spiritual life.

Galatians 3:10

Galatians 3:10

10 For [gar] as many as [hosos] are [eisi] of [ek] the works [ergon] of the law [nomos] are [eisi] under [hupo] the curse: [katara] for [gar] it is written, [grapho] Cursed [epikataratos] is every one [pas] that [hos] continueth [emmeno] not [ou] in [en] all things [pas] which [ho] are written [grapho] in [en] the book [biblion] of the law [nomos] to do [poieo] them. [autos] KJV-Interlinear

10 For as many as are of the works of the Law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not abide by all things written in the book of the law, to perform them." NASB

In quoting Deut. 27:26, here Paul proves that all are cursed, that none can or are able to live by the Law, nor can anyone live by the demands of the Law.

The Law sets forth a life demanding perfection, and since no one is able to comply completely with the Law, then everyone is cursed.

Thus the total depravity of humanity.

All have sinned.  All have come short of the glory of God.  All have fallen away.

Therefore, works is not an answer, because no one can use works to heal themselves of their own flaws.

There are only two possible ways to achieve perfection.  Works is the first way and no one is capable of accomplishing perfection by means of works, therefore works is not an option.  Faith is the second option and faith is non-meritorious wherein man claims no credit, man does no work, man can neither earn nor deserve perfection. It is a gift of God, through His grace and by means of faith in believing that which God has provided and accomplished in our behalf.

And by the way, Jesus Christ is the only person in all of history who has lived and fulfilled the Law without a single error.

Faith is the function of committing Gods mandated process for salvation and spiritual growth.

Salvation is by means of believing in Christ, which takes but an instant in time to believe. And spiritual growth is accomplished by means of pursuing a daily bible study by means of instruction, wherein you learn and understand and use and therefore advance productively in your spiritual life toward spiritual maturity.

There is no such thing as working for God, as working for righteousness, as being self-taught or self-accomplished, or self-directed.  You cannot be saved nor advance in your spiritual life by doing something that you believe is a better way to commune with God.

If your doing something, is a result of your daily studies, then well and good, because your daily study will direct you in what you should or should not do.  And all people are not qualified to do anything until they have had years of study behind them and much wisdom within them.

If your doing things, is a replacement for your daily studies, then you are out of line and under the curse of works.  And actually you will be remaining under that curse, simply by turning to works, to accomplish something that you cannot accomplish. And you are the fool for even trying.

So what is the curse?  It is eternal condemnation as far as salvation is concerned.  Trying to work for salvation is a losing effort, because you are saved only through faith and by no other method.  And the curse after salvation means no spiritual growth, assuming that you actually get by that salvation barrier and believe in Christ, and are therefore saved, but then you have your spiritual life to contend with, and that is spiritual growth.

Again works in spiritual growth, is a losing effort since spiritual growth is accomplished again by means of faith, but this faith is the actual obedience to Gods mandates to study, to learn, and utilize real and legitimate spiritual knowledge to accomplish growth.

Anyone who ignores their daily bible study, is by default, relying on works.  They believe that they do not need any form of study, or very little study, in order to comply with Gods spiritual apparatus.

When faith is not functional, then works is functional and the curse of spiritual failure is the only result.

Isaiah 11:5

Isaiah 11:5ues

5 And righteousness [tsedeq] shall be the girdle ['ezowr] of his loins, [mothen] and faithfulness ['emuwnah] the girdle ['ezowr] of his reins. [chalats] KJV-Interlinear

5 Also righteousness will be the belt about His loins, And faithfulness the belt about His waist. NASB

This verse brings to an end, the descriptions of the personal qualities of the Messiah.

He is bound up with righteousness and faithfulness just as his clothing is bound up and wrapped around Him, as to become an intimate and integral part of His essence.

The loins represent the vigor of activity of the person.

The reins, represent the strength of resolve and emotional self-control and the enduring stamina of the individual.

Faithfulness, ‘emuwnah,’ is the literal firmness, security, moral resolve and stability, establishment of truth from within.

And as we have already seen, righteousness, ‘tsedeq,’ is the moral or legal equity, justice, untainted fairness and accuracy.

Therefore there is no flaw, no taint, nothing that is compromised or diminished in the character or essence of Christ.

Throughout the scriptures, clothing is often used to describe the attributes of preparedness or character of the person.  And as God, as the Messiah, as man, as the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ possesses the absolute moral and legal character of one who is perfect in every way.

And His essence and these characteristics are ingrained throughout and within Him so as to become one with and a part of Him.

He is righteousness.  He is incapable of unrighteousness.  He is faithful.  He is incapable of unfaithfulness.

The next verses will demonstrate some of the results of this policy of Christ.

Isaiah 11:4

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 11:4ues

4 But with righteousness [tsedeq] shall he judge [shaphat] the poor, [dal] and reprove [yakach] with equity [miyshowr] for the meek [`anav] of the earth: ['erets] and he shall smite [nakah] the earth ['erets] with the rod [shebet] of his mouth, [peh] and with the breath [ruwach] of his lips [saphah] shall he slay [muwth] the wicked. [rasha`] KJV-Interlinear

4 But with righteousness He will judge the poor, And decide with fairness for the afflicted of the earth; And He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, And with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked. NASB

These verses do not relate a chronology, but a pattern of life and a policy by which Christ will live.

Jesus Christ is God, and as God He is omniscient.  He knows all that there is to know, the knowable and the unknowable.  He is omnipresent and is not limited by knowledge or space or time.  He is not confined by this universe or anything within it, or anything outside of it, whatever that may be.

Jesus is man.  He was born of a woman and came into this world as all baby’s do.  And as a human being, He grew up as do all human beings.  He was cared for as an infant, trained as a toddler, and taught as a young person.  He had a thirst for doctrine and the knowledge of God and all things spiritual, from a very early age.

He wanted to know.  He sought out doctrinal instruction, He listened, He learned, He even amazed those who would instruct Him with His knowledge and understanding, when He was a young adolescent.  He was obedient to His parents.  As the son of a carpenter, He would have worked in that capacity for His family.

And how do we know any of this?  The Bible is the mind and therefore the thinking of Christ. Jesus would have lived by and in accordance with all doctrinal instruction.

This chapter begins with the line of Christ, and presents the learning process that is available to all believers, and most certainly as it applied to Jesus when He was growing up.

These verses depict the policy of the Messiah, which was applied to His first advent as He interacted with everyone in His life and most certainly these verses describe His policy as King of kings and ruler forever, when that future time arrives in history.

These verses do not describe a timetable or calendar or sequence of events for this policy to come into existence.  But rather describe the pattern of life that Christ lived by, and for which we too should prepare ourselves and live.

Unfortunately most people do not live by these principles.  They are not interested, and not teachable and do not want to learn by some other means except their own self-instruction, which is a flawed method and a false concept which serves only the naïve.

Righteousness, ‘tsedeq,’ is moral or legal equity.  This is the impartial justice with which one considers all of the facts.  It is not biased or prejudiced or bribable against anyone, or in favor of anyone at another's expense.

To reprove, ‘yakach,’ is to argue, correct, decide.  And this Christ will do with equity and fairness.  No circumstance, no handicap, no disadvantage, no imbalance will prevent anyone from gaining a fair and honest hearing and decision.

Christ will smite and slay with the breath of His mouth.  Therefore in truth He will rule. In truth He will judge.  In truth He will lead.  And doctrine is that truth and power that will be used to rule and to judge and to decide.

Evil runs rampant throughout the world and throughout history.  Governments and organizations and people alike have a mandate to rule and to lead and to live in this manner, but they do not.  Governments and organizations and people alike get bogged down in their lusts and idealisms and plans for life, all of which ignore the basic principles of truth, which God established long ago.

And as a result, the world and life is filled with injustice, inequity, where bias and prejudice abound and the masses lose and suffer endlessly and needlessly.  Even life in the natural world suffers with its predators and its prey.

And as we will soon see, when truth rules, and only Christ will be able to rule by truth, then even the natural world will change dramatically.

Isaiah 11:3

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 11:3ues

3 And shall make him of quick understanding [ruwach] in the fear [yir'ah] of the LORD: [Yahovah] and he shall not judge [shaphat] after the sight [mar'eh] of his eyes, [`ayin] neither reprove [yakach] after the hearing [mishma`] of his ears: ['ozen] KJV-Interlinear

3 And He will delight in the fear of the Lord, And He will not judge by what His eyes see, Nor make a decision by what His ears hear; NASB

The seed of Jesse, Jesse who had died but out of that dead stump now reborn is the person of Jesus, chosen through David and that line as it descended down through the generations until Mary and Joseph.

Jesus was one-hundred percent human.  He was born of a mother.  He grew up as did all children of his day.

But as we saw in the previous verse, Jesus learned doctrine in the same exact manner that you and I learn doctrine.

He was perpetually in the spirit and therefore in fellowship.  He never sinned therefore He never had to confess any sins.  He studied the scriptures everyday by listening to His parents and to those who taught the scriptures in His day.  He gained an understanding and thorough knowledge of doctrine and came to wisdom at a very early age.

Jesus came to know who He was and why He was.  And He went to the Cross knowing and with full confidence the purpose and mission of His life in that first advent.  He set aside His power of deity and lived those 33 ½ years under the exclusive power of the Holy Spirit.  That same exact power as is available to every believer in our dispensation.  That same power that is available to you through the seven steps of which we just completed the study in verse two.

Jesus was the pattern of life and of living life.

He used spiritual understanding and did not use the sight of his eyes or the hearing of his ears, which is to say, He did not sin in judgment, He did not sin in gossip.  He did not listen to idle talk nor promote it.  He was not judgmental, was not biased, was not prejudiced in any way.  Jesus was not opinionated nor did He boast of His identity in order to elevate Himself beyond His character.

Jesus did not seek rulership, did not seek approbation of the people, did not deviate from Gods original plan for salvation.  He did not let His identity go to His head, did not let His own ego run out of control or off track.

Every day, He studied and He learned and He grew up within His spiritual life, until the day in which He was fully prepared to begin His purpose.  He performed miracles because He was the true messiah and savior and God.  He did these things by means of faith.

And that is your obligation in this life, to study every day, to learn every day, to grow up and become prepared for Gods purpose, not your own purpose.

Sadly, most folks get off track and never achieve that which God has prepared for them.  They do not study.  They do not learn. They pursue their own self defined plan and get lost in their own ego and enticements of this world, losing sight of the real purpose for which God put them here on this earth.

God has a plan.  He placed you here to live and to grow up.  Whatever it is that you do in life, your job, your employment, your talent, your ability, etc., is for the logistics of maintaining your life such that you will have the opportunity to study doctrine and grow up and become fully prepared spiritually for Gods intended purpose for you, but also, prepared for eternity and the infinite rewards that await you.

Your job, your talent, your clothes, your culture, your possessions, are not the real you, but the means of maintaining you in this life, so that you will have the opportunity to grow up in Gods intended purpose for your life.

What you think is what you are, and God intends for you to think doctrine, for you to be mature in doctrine, to be wise in truth, and therefore to be complete.

This verse begins, ‘and shall make him,’ which is a reference to the spiritual process that was available to Jesus and is available to everyone throughout history.

You need only to decide to use it and then commit yourself to making your daily study an integral part of your life.
