Galatians 2:6

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 2:6

6 But [de] of [apo] these who seemed [dokeo] to be [einai] somewhat, [tis] (whatsoever [hopoios] [pote] they were, [en] it maketh [diaphero] no [oudeis] matter [diaphero] to me: [moi] God [theos] accepteth [lambano] no [ou] man's [anthropos] person: [prosopon]) for [gar] they who seemed [dokeo] to be somewhat in conference added [prosanatithemi] nothing [oudeis] to me: [emoi] KJV-Interlinear

6 But from those who were of high reputation (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality) —  well, those who were of reputation contributed nothing to me. NASB

Paul continues in making his point that he did not receive anything new, nor any instruction, nor any correction of his views, from anyone, even those who were held in high repute within the Christian church as it existed in those first years following the crucifixion.

Making no matter to me, simply means that anything that was said or voiced in opinion, added nothing and was irrelevant to Pauls already established doctrine.

Likewise, anything and everything that occurred in whatever discussions that were held, added nothing new to the true gospel of which Paul had already received from Christ.

Pauls education and instruction from Christ was so thorough and complete that nothing new was added from anyone, nor could it be added by anyone, back then in Pauls day, and as we apply this principle to our current day, and since Pauls writing of his many books in the New Testament, then nothing new could or can be added to the Bible since that time almost 2000 years ago.

Paul saw Christ.  The Apostles saw Christ and even lived with Him for three and a half years.  What they did not learn, what they did not remember, was brought back into their memories for the purpose of their evangelizing the world and establishing those early churches.

Since that first century, many so called discovered books have cropped up here and there, and all of them, by the application of this verse, are false.

Now, Paul has laid out his argument that he was taught by Christ and by no one else.

He did not receive any instruction or education from any organization, from any well known person of good reputation, from any of the apostles, from anyone except Christ and Christ alone.

Given this statement, then all of his books will carry this foundational support of authority and authenticity.

The principles and instruction from his writings which we have today, came from God, came to Paul complete and without exception.

Any books outside of the bible which presume to add new information to the bible, are false, and that certainly includes any and all religions that have cropped up subsequent to or even contemporary with Pauls life.

Galatians 2:5

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 2:5

5 To whom [hos] we gave place [eiko] by subjection, [hupotage] no, not [oude] for [pros] an hour; [hora] that [hina] the truth [aletheia] of the gospel [euaggelion] might continue [diameno] with [pros] you. [humas]KJV-Interlinear

5 But we did not yield in subjection to them for even an hour, so that the truth of the gospel might remain with you. NASB

Here is Pauls emphatic rejection and objection to the false concepts that were being attempted by those people who were trying to infiltrate their false ideas into the common thinking of everyone else.

The true doctrine of salvation, is salvation by faith.  That is, one is saved by merely believing in Jesus Christ.

The false doctrine of salvation, is that works are required in order earn and receive, and even keep salvation.  And in this case, circumcision was being promoted as the required work, lest you were going to be like every other pagan, so to speak.

Symbolically speaking the term pagan is used to refer to someone who lacks truth or wisdom.  Civilized countries would refer to uncivilized regions as being inhabited by pagan peoples, because they lack the knowledge and understanding of modern civilization.

But in truth anyone who lacks knowledge and understanding of God, of doctrine, of truth is a pagan by definition. This can apply to extremely intelligent people in the most advanced countries, and most certainly can apply to most people in every country regardless of their culture or environment.  Being a pagan is not limited to a person who runs around barefoot and wearing only a flap of clothing, if any, around their waist.

Only people who lack doctrinal understanding, will categorize people in various classes.  This is a tendency of liberals or self-righteous people regardless of where they sit on the political or social spectrum.

Doctrine is not political.  Doctrine is not philosophical.  Doctrine does not polarize people.  People do all of that themselves.

And people who lack truth, certainly come up with their own ideas that create rules, for everyone, that justifies their beliefs. When you have beliefs that run contrary to truth, then you have to have a set of standards or rules that justify your beliefs.  And you inevitably create boundaries that allow some but not all, into your belief structure.  This leads to bias and prejudice, and abuse, because it is sin that the false beliefs are founded on, not truth.

And when sin is the foundation, then the whole false system of beliefs will crumble and fail sooner or later.

Paul did not give their ideas an inch or even an hours consideration, but rejected them totally and completely.  Today we might say, that we would not give them a moment of our time.

Isaiah 10:7

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 10:7ues

7 Howbeit he meaneth [damah] not so, neither doth his heart [lebab] think [chashab] so; but it is in his heart [lebab] to destroy [shamad] and cut off [karath] nations [gowy] not a few. [ma`at] KJV-Interlinear

7 Yet it does not so intend Nor does it plan so in its heart, But rather it is its purpose to destroy, And to cut off many nations. NASB

Now, Assyria, or any evil nation for that matter, does not think as God thinks.  Gods purpose is to discipline and judge in accordance with Gods perfect righteousness and justice, in truth.

Any given evil nation has their own agenda, and that will be explained in these next several verses.

Meaneth not and neither his heart, indicate the agenda of evil people.  They have their own plans of glory and power and fortune.

God intends to discipline Samaria and then Judah.  They belong to Him and it is in His purpose to apply discipline as a matter of course.  Other nations are not Gods chosen people and as to those who do not align themselves with Gods truth, then they have elected by default to live within the jungle environment of the world.

In the jungle, there is no protection for anyone, even for the strong.  The strong eventually become the weak as they are replaced by other strong elements in the world.

Assyria plans to conquer nations for their own purpose and glory.  And God merely uses that intent from within His overall divine plan.

And in so doing it is not Assyria who is defining its own destiny, but God in fact utilizing them at the proper time and at the proper place, because that is how the divine plan was assembled in eternity past.  God controls history.

Remember that God looked down through the tunnel of time and saw an evil Samaria and an evil Judah.  He also saw contemporary with them, an evil Assyria as well as other empires to come.  He merely matched all of these ingredients up in history in order to accomplish His plan.

God designed a time for Adam and Eve. He defined a time for the Flood.  He saw mans failure and the need for a Messiah.  He placed Jesus into history at the proper time.  He placed you into history at a time that works best for you.  Everything and everyone, even the nature of the planet and storms and earthquakes and such, all come together in one extremely detailed and coherent and comprehensive divine plan.

We are the tool, And God is the craftsman.  The craftsman wields the tool.  The tool does not wield itself.

Isaiah 10:6

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 10:6ues

6 I will send [shalach] him against an hypocritical [chaneph] nation, [gowy] and against the people [`am] of my wrath [`ebrah] will I give him a charge, [tsavah] to take [shalal] the spoil, [shalal] and to take [bazaz] the prey, [baz] and to tread them down [suwm] [mirmac] like the mire [chomer] of the streets. [chuwts] KJV-Interlinear

6 I send it against a godless nation And commission it against the people of My fury To capture booty and to seize plunder, And to trample them down like mud in the streets.  NASB

Send, ‘shalach,’ means to send, to appoint, to bring, to conduct.

And it is God who is causing Assyria to invade and attack Samaria.  But how is that?

Give him charge, ‘tsavah,’ means to appoint, constitute, to give permission, to send with authority.

To spoil and to tread down, is the action of an invading army against an inferior enemy.

In time of war, diplomats are not sent in ahead of the invading army to negotiate a settlement.  That time has already passed and it is now the army’s turn to resolve whatever the problem is or has been.

Prior to the declaration of war, it is the diplomats who conduct and pursue solutions.  When that fails, then the diplomats or ambassadors are called home and the next step is to send in the army.  The invasion is preceded with a bombardment and then followed by the invasion.  This has been the pattern of national war confrontation for the history of humanity.

Sometimes solutions are achieved, and sometimes solutions were never intended to be achieved, depending on the integrity, or lack of it, of the parties.  With evil nations, payment of tribute is sometimes acceptable, but that cost often times gets bigger and bigger and then is refused and the evil party demanding the payment sends in his army.

This is the pattern of Christianity and how God deals with Satan as well.  Satan is given chance after chance to accept truth, but of course he never will. Satan uses all of his resources to turn the world into total evil and finally there will come a last straw and God will call home all of his diplomats.  That is the Rapture.

What happens next is the prophecy of the Tribulation, wherein total chaos and violence occurs throughout that seven year period, and as many as possible are saved, and then finally the ultimate invasion of Christs’ second-advent occurs resulting in the total and complete annihilation of Satan and all evil.  And then the establishment of Gods kingdom, on this earth will occur.  Satan is de-throned and imprisoned for a period of 1000 years.

But I am a bit off subject here.

That is the pattern of nations and war.

When war occurs, then the time of diplomacy is over and most likely not desired by the invading army as far as evil is concerned, and things get real ugly for the nation being invaded.  Death and destruction and looting and the taking of all spoils and such becomes their immediate agenda.

And God, through His perfect foreknowledge, due to the divine decrees, knows the nature of Samaria and of all nations, and God knows what is coming in terms of failed national relations.  Therefore, God permits the invasion, as it relates to the divine decrees, which is nothing more than the result of the thoughts and actions of peoples in those nations.

This is necessary in order the prune out the evil within a nation in order to preserve that nation.  You have to cut out the dead wood on a plant, so to speak, in order to restore that plant to health.

Now know this.  God did not send Assyria an email instructing them to invade Samaria.  No such conversation occurred.  They may well have read the prophecies of Isaiah and presumed that it applied to them, but even that is irrelevant, as God did not speak directly to them. Nor does it legitimize their invasion and leave them as unaccountable for their sins and activity in that invasion.

All evil gets its due judgment, and even though Assyria may seem to be getting off easy, they will receive their just punishment in due course.  There has never been justification for evil and never will be.  But learn to distinguish the difference between Gods permissive will and Gods application of justice, and Gods many devices for the control of history.

Isaiah 10:5

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 10:5ues

5 O [howy] Assyrian, ['Ashshuwr] the rod [shebet] of mine anger, ['aph] and the staff [matteh] in their hand [yad] is mine indignation. [za`am] KJV-Interlinear

5 Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger And the staff in whose hands is My indignation, NASB

The word for O, ‘howy,’ can be read as woe but typically is used in the sense of ah, or alas, or ho.  But here woe carries a double connotation.

Assyria will be used as the instrument of Gods justice against Samaria and then eventually Judah by other means.

God is not ordering the Assyrians to attack and to punish Samaria, but in His foreknowledge, God saw in eternity past, that the Israelites would turn evil and that they would have a bordering nation to the north, and that nation would invade them bringing severe catastrophe upon Israel.

Thus in His infinite wisdom and control of history, God allows Assyria to become the instrument of His punishment against Israel.

The rod, is often used as a symbol of discipline or judgment or punishment against those who have crossed the line into evil practices.

Staff, is also used to describe divine punishment, but here it is in the sense of divine will.  It is not the will of the Assyrians, but the will of God allowing them to invade.  If God does not will a thing, and in this case allowing it, then it cannot happen.

In this hand, is a reference to the actions and agenda of the Assyrians.

And mine indignation, clears up the matter of who is making the decisions for this punishment against Israel.  God makes the decisions.  God provides the means of the punishment. God decides the duration of that punishment.

In eternity past, God brought together a divine plan.  That plan is called the divine decrees.  In that plan, God looked down through time and saw every possible thought, action, intent, and result from everyone and everything, and from every possible placement in history for each individual.

God could have brought you into history a thousand years ago, but he brought you into history at this time in your life.

God considered every possibility for every person and decided on the very best result for everyone.  And so here you are, rather than having been born a thousand years ago or at some other time.

In so doing, God controls history.  He gives life and He takes life.  God gives and God takes, and that is His control over every possible aspect of life and history.

The divine decrees were put into place and then now we are experiencing that plan as our reality.  God did not cause you to think the way that you think, or make the decisions that you make.  He merely saw in eternity past, all that you would think and do and so brought together every other human being in history, both now and in the past and in the future, to fit your own chosen pattern of life, as well as theirs.

For some that path will be blessing.  For others their chosen path will lead to disaster.  And it is really of each persons own doing.  God just made provision for all the aspects of your life, both the good and the bad.

So, your life is not predetermined by someone else, only pre-provisioned for based on you and your life.

Israel turned evil.  Israel turned to evil partners.  Israel will be double crossed and crushed because of their choices.  And they could have easily been blessed with better decisions, but that was not the case.

You cannot hide from history.  You cannot hide from God.  You cannot hide in secret, because God knows and has made a way for you to be found out.

So as you are traveling down the road of your life, God has things out there waiting along that road ready for you, both good and bad things to apply in accordance with your choices and path.  You cannot outsmart or outmaneuver God.
