Isaiah 5:20

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Isaiah 5:20

20 Woe [howy] unto them that call ['amar] evil [ra`] good, [towb] and good [towb] evil; [ra`] that put [suwm] darkness [choshek] for light, ['owr] and light ['owr] for darkness; [choshek] that put [suwm] bitter [mar] for sweet, [mathowq] and sweet [mathowq] for bitter [mar]! KJV-Interlinear

20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;, Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness;, Who substitute bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!  NASB

The second ‘woe’ in this passage addresses the reverse views that people pursue when they reject or ignore doctrine.

Bible doctrine is truth, but it is more than just truth, it is the doorway which you may pass through in order to gain access to truth.

Without doctrine you have no access to truth.  God is truth and without access to God, then truth eludes you.

Truth is often referred to as light, with darkness being the absence of light, or total darkness.

Good is that which is decent, moral, acceptable, respectable, upright, noble, virtuous and so forth.

Evil is the opposite of good, being the immoral, the disrespectable, and so forth.

Bitter and sweet are also two opposites, with good or light being the sweet and pleasant, and sin being the bitter or disgusting or objectionable.

So, truth is that which allows us to see life clearly and you know where you are relative to everything else, or at least you have the ability to figure things out.  You can see in the light, which should be obvious.

Darkness is the total absence of light, and in total darkness you cannot see anything.  But more than that, you cannot even know where you are with respect to anything else. You have no orientation to self, to others, to life and especially to God.

When a person is indifferent toward God, toward doctrine, toward all that has been God designed for reality, then they live in a world of disorientation.  This is not limited to criminals or people who you most generally think of as bad, but includes a lot of righteous types that believe that they can cruise through life on their own merit and have no need for God, or even Gods methods or requirements.

So, when truth is not in the soul, then the lies take over.  Realities do a flip flop and everything is turned upside down.  They prefer the bitter or the objectionable.  They prefer the lies.  They prefer being lost and do not even consider themselves as being lost. They prefer their own ways as opposed to Gods ways.  The even call their ways, Gods ways.

And therefore we have the second ‘woe’ in this passage.  Why?  Because this will all lead to the most sorrowful miserable, anxiety filled, lustful, empty, unfulfilling life imaginable.  The sad reality of all of this is, that the person probably will not know that they are free falling through life until they hit the bottom.   And that bottom could very well be their death.

God gives us many examples in life to be able to understand how this sort of thing works.  You probably have seen shows on television that have addicts that reject truth and do not believe that they have a problem.  Others attempt to intervene, but that help is rejected.

Well this is a good example of how the spiritual life goes, when truth is rejected, when people refuse to study daily, when people refuse to confess their sins regularly, when people simply do not accept Gods spiritual design.  Then they function just like an addict, only in the spiritual realm, or rather outside of it.

They reject their obligations in life and that leads to a dysfunctional life, a dysfunctional marriage, a dysfunctional family, a dysfunctional job, dysfunctional priorities, and on and on.  And especially a dysfunctional relationship with God.

The little things become important and the important things become a nuisance to them, and that is how lives and marriages and families and careers and jobs all fall apart.

And the worst of it is when these types of people pursue the ridiculous and become belligerent, stubborn, and even violent in their pursuit of the dysfunctional, and refuse to change.  They bring harm to themselves, but they also bring harm to others, and, they don’t care.  They just want their own way, no matter what.  In their mind, you are wrong, they aren’t.

Therefore, ‘woe.’  And that is a very bad repercussion to an empty and messed up spiritual life.

Isaiah 5:19

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Isaiah 5:19

19 That say, ['amar] Let him make speed, [mahar] and hasten [chuwsh] his work, [ma`aseh] that we may see [ra'ah] it: and let the counsel [`etsah] of the Holy One [qadowsh] of Israel [Yisra'el] draw nigh [qarab] and come, [bow'] that we may know [yada`] it! KJV-Interlinear

19 Who say, "Let Him make speed, let Him hasten His work, that we may see it; And let the purpose of the Holy One of Israel draw near And come to pass, that we may know it!"  NASB

People who view God and doctrine with indifference, will mock God, will mock truth, will ridicule and defy and make fun of those things that are far beyond their understanding.

The fools pretend that God is the fool.  The arrogant, presume that God will cower and react to their provocations.  The angry, the defiant, the frustrated blame God for their predicament.

The very one who they reject, they challenge, which in itself is a contradiction.

When someone rejects something or does not believe in it, then you would think that he would simply ignore it.

But wicked people, anyone who rejects Gods plan and mandates and spiritual design, go many steps further in their rejection. They hate something, ignore something, reject something, try to re-define something, and then they go overboard in ridiculing the original.

People made of dust and possess short lives, presume that they know more than their maker, presume that they know more than the God who is eternal and omniscient, and omnipotent.  Only a fool would mock or ridicule someone that is infinitely superior than they.

So the challenge, ‘Come right now!  Show us your face!  Show us the proof of your existence and wisdom!  Why me?  What have I done?’

And of course God has a plan that spans many generations, many millennia.  God created all that exists.  God is not tied to the laws of this universe, laws which He himself invented and put into place.

God is not able to sin, and able to not sin.

And so foolish people delve deeper and deeper into their own sins, in their challenge, in their hate, in their frustration, against the one and only person that can save them, even from themselves.

When you disregard God, you disregard His plan.  When you disregard Gods plan, then you disregard Him.  When you reject Gods defined apparatus for the spiritual life, then you reject God.

No one can invent their own spirituality and gain Gods acceptance. No one can reject God and acquire His awe.  No one can invent something better, and expect God to be impressed.  No one can argue a better argument and expect to win against God.

To do any of these is mocking the one and only person who knows and has provided the very best possible plan for humanity and each individual person.  Rejecting God is rejecting your best and only hope and future.

Psalm 18:21

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Psalm 18:21

21 For I have kept [shamar] the ways [derek] of the LORD, [Yahovah] and have not wickedly departed [rasha`] from my God. ['elohiym] KJV-Interlinear

21 For I have kept the ways of the Lord, And have not wickedly departed from my God. NASB

There are two categories of people on this planet – believers and unbelievers.

Believers are family of God and are dealt with in accordance with Gods family rules of conduct.

Unbelievers are not family, they are outsiders, aliens, strangers, foreigners, those who reject God, and are dealt with as enemies of God.

Believers have at least three distinct categories into which they might fit – immature believers, growing believers, mature believers.

It is the mature believer that receives the greatest blessing and attention from God.  All others are dealt in accordance with various levels of discipline as might be required in order to get them on a track moving toward their spiritual maturity.

Unfortunately too many never get on that track and so they live through their life in various stages of divine discipline until their life requirement is fulfilled here on this earth, and then they are taken out of the world and brought home to God in heaven.  There they remain without reward until the resurrection.  At least they are saved and will be in heaven forever. The just won’t have any reward extras to possess for all of eternity.

Mature believers receive the most attention from God with respect to blessings, with respect to various suffering tests which are used to further strengthen their faith and growth, and so forth.

And they advance and receive blessings because of one reason only.  The have kept, ‘shamar,’ protected, guarded, attended to, taken heed, listened, obeyed, maintained their responsibility to self and to others in their life, have maintained their obligations to self and to the people that are in their life, as well as to their life’s responsibilities.

They have run self-checks to see where their faults are and have, or do, make efforts to improve themselves with respect to those things that God expects of them.  Namely their responsibilities to self in bible study, their responsibilities to family, spouses, children, relatives, neighbors, fellow workers, and so forth.

They constantly review their own self and let go of criticisms of others, for it is the evaluation of self not others that gains or loses ones blessings.

They look at life's circumstances and when everything is in place such that one should expect blessing but it seems elusive, then they look to Gods timing, purpose, or to their own deficiencies for answers as to why the delay.  And they try to make improvements within themselves as defined and expected by God.

So, keeping Gods ways, merely means your day to day attitude and dedication and consistency in your studies as well as you consistent application of all of Gods mandates to your own life.

Not wickedly departing, simply means your consistency or inconsistency in living within the fellowship sphere, which is accomplished through confession.

Moment by moment, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and on and on throughout your entire life, God has placed expectations on you as to every aspect of your life.  From major things, to the very minor details of your life, God expects you to persevere in your duties, regardless of how it hurts, regardless of what your circumstances might be, regardless of the burdens, or handicaps, or barriers that you might face, be they small or large.

And though it might be a difficult task at times to maintain and pursue ones spiritual life, it is the pattern, the overall pattern that you establish for your life that counts, and that will result in your overall eternal reward.

Remember that this life is not the final destination of your life, but it is only the journey which began at your spiritual birth, which began when you initially believed in Christ, and continues through your life until God removes you from this world.

It is during this time that God gives you in this life, that you have the opportunity to prepare yourself for the real destination and end of your journey, which is eternity.

So, never quit, never give up, always pick yourself up, always try to maintain your obligations to self and to others as God expects of you, and keep on pushing forward toward your God given goal toward the completion of your life.

Ephesians 4:4

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Ephesians 4:4

4 There is one [heis] body, [soma] and [kai] one [heis] Spirit, [pneuma] even as [kathos] [kai] ye are called [kaleo] in [en] one [mia] hope [elpis] of your [humon] calling; [klesis] KJV-Interlinear

4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; NASB

One body, is a reference to the collective group of believers in Christ.  There is only one Christianity, not several recognized denominations or organizations or groups.

The many protestant, Catholic and other groups in this world, pursue many different forms of worship, rites, rituals, even beliefs, many of which the Bible does not even teach, but have been adopted and redefined for the convenience of a given group.  Some pursue things for their financial benefit, while others pursue various beliefs for their popularity or member drawing appeal.  Still others cling to rigid ritual, or ceremonial, or beliefs handed down from former generations.  Still others pursue beliefs that enhance lust driven patterns.

So, the cafeteria of religions is big, and the choices are many.  And all of them are wrong.

There is but one Christian faith, one body or family of God, namely those who have believed in Christ.  There is no other way to enter into Gods family, but by a one-time expression of faith or belief in Christ.

There is only one Spirit, which is the Holy Spirit.  He serves all the same, and does not serve various groups with different policies or patterns.

The Holy Spirit serves in a silent and unseen capacity.  There is no possession, no ceremonial or emotional reactions resulting from the Spirit.  There are no overt manifestations resulting from ones interaction with, through, or by the Spirit.

Even salvation, your calling and the hope of that calling, is unique and of one nature.

There are not many ways to be saved.  There are not many ways of access to God.

No one can earn salvation, no works can be applied to deserve salvation.

Works are false.  Sincerity is false.  Good deeds are false.  Rituals are false.  Adherence to membership rules is false.  Being in any group or organization that implies that they are the chosen, is false.

There is only one way of salvation and that is through the non-meritorious thought, which is faith in Christ, or believing in Christ.  That thought or belief, ‘Father, I believe in Jesus Christ,’ is the one and only expression or method of gaining salvation for oneself.  It is a form of prayer, the only prayer that the unbeliever can express and have heard by God.  The Father is the target and recipient of all prayers.  Belief, is a non-meritorious thought whereby the individual cannot claim credit for their belief, thus arrogance is eliminated from the salvation process.

Salvation takes but a moment, or the length of time it takes to express this single thought or belief.  And salvation is in effect a re-birth, or a new birth into the spiritual life, which the unbeliever did not have until they believed in Christ.

And yet there are many groups that for whatever reason, believe that they can find something that will take away their salvation, because God has somehow overlooked something, and that they need to keep on earning their way into heaven.

Salvation is permanent.  Once saved, always saved.  There is nothing that a person can say or do to lose their salvation.  Salvation is a new birth.  You cannot unborn yourself.  Once born, always born.
