Isaiah 10:30
30 Lift up [tsahal] thy voice, [qowl] O daughter [bath] of [gal] Gallim: [Galliym] cause it
to be heard [qashab] unto Laish, [Layish] O poor [`aniy] Anathoth. [`Anathowth] KJV-Interlinear
30 Cry aloud
with your voice, O daughter of Gallim! Pay attention, Laishah and wretched
Anathoth! NASB
The cities in the area we
have been studying, are told to raise the alarm as to the impending invasion
and approaching army.
Gallim was the birthplace
of the man who became the second husband (after David) of Sauls daughter,
Michal, 1 Sam 24:44.
Laish is not mentioned as
a village being in the tribe of Benjamin, but there is a village mentioned as
being in the northern part of Palestine in the tribe of Dan, Judg. 18:7, 29. But since our context is in the vicinity of the
tribe of Benjamin, then it most likely refers to a village within the tribe
boundaries of Benjamin, that no longer exists and was not otherwise mentioned
elsewhere in the Bible.
Anathoth is a city in the
tribe of Benjamin and the location where Jeremiah was born, Josh. 21:18; Jere.
1:1.
And finally the word for
poor, ‘aniy,’ does not refer to the financial state of the people, but here is
used to refer to them in pity. And it is
such a pity that implies that they should have known but did not pay attention.
They are being invaded. The invading army is advancing rapidly. The
occupying army has been brutal to all it conquers. And so they are in its path and therein is
the pity. They are about to be crushed without mercy.
These events, as we have
already seen, are future events that will occur in the Tribulation, which is
also called the final days. This
invasion will occur at the very end of the Tribulation. This invasion is a part of the last great war
which is commonly called Armageddon.
Since Isaiah was written
many centuries B.C., and we are now 2013 years A.D. and we still have not seen
the final days of our own dispensation, then the people who will be living in
the area have ample notice given them regarding these events. If they were positive toward God and doctrine
then they would probably not be living there, or at least they would not be
caught by surprise.
Lift up thy voice, simply
means the startling cry of alarm with total surprise. They are shocked. They are stunned. And that should seem rather odd, since for the
previous seven years, or perhaps six-and-a-half years, the entire world will
have been under the most phenomenal judgments ever. By this time, well over half of the
population of the world will be dead.
And yet, these people are shocked, stunned by the invasion that is
moving toward them.
One would think that by
this time, they would be seeking answers, but in fact they were not. Our study in Revelation presents a more lucid
view of the attitudes of the people in that future time.
