Psalm 22:21

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 22:21

21 Save [yasha`] me from the lion's ['ariy] mouth: [peh] for thou hast heard [`anah] me from the horns [qeren] of the unicorns. [ra'em]  KJV-Interlinear

21 Save me from the lion's mouth; And from the horns of the wild oxen Thou dost answer me. NASB

Unicorn, ‘raem,’ is a reference to wild bulls or oxen with horns that are used to tease and prod and poke and rip apart and torment their victim.

The lions mouth is the description of a hungry ravenous lion or beast that is never satisfied, wanting only to eat away or rip apart its prey, caring nothing for who or what the prey might be.  Certainly the interests of the prey are of no concern for the lion.

The hunger is selfish and self-centered only.  The prey is totally defenseless and of no value but for the satisfaction of ones own hate and use.

But in this verse there is a change of attitude, ‘have heard.’

Whereas the meaning that has been conveyed from the previous verses, has been one of terror and fear that nothing or no one would come to help. And that is from the perspective of the world in which there is no rescue from the agenda of evil.  But now, there is God, who is always there to help and to rescue even in the face of harsh and violent adversaries in the heat of their onslaught.

There is now confidence and comfort, even in the face of death or disaster, that God will be there and rescue is certain.

And you certainly have to understand that this is the devils world.  Some things must occur. Jesus could not have said that this is too much, too much pain and suffering, so I’ll pass for now.  Because he came on a mission for this very purpose, to pay the price for sin and pave the way to save humanity.

Likewise, you have to face life with all that it is.

The Israelites were in slavery in Egypt, which is a picture of spiritual death as unbelievers.

The parting of the sea is a picture of faith and salvation.  To cross over between the walls of water took faith.

The wandering in the desert, is a picture that people have to struggle with learning and growing up in their spiritual life. They have frustrating times. They rebel.  They complain. They come up with their own ideas like the golden calf.  But sooner or later, after a sufficient time of learning and growth, they learn and are ready for spiritual maturity.  For some this takes a bit longer than for others.

Then the crossing of the Jordan river, with one wall of water on one side only signifies the passage to spiritual maturity. But the blessings of milk and honey still require strengthening of ones faith and so there are difficulties even in the promised land.  This is still the devils world and genies do not come in six-packs.

Even spiritual maturity has its struggles but they are designed for accelerated growth and accelerated faith.  And then the ultimate goal remains in heaven, not from his earth.  This earth will pass away, and eternity will present the ultimate objective for our life, and that is the final goal.

But this life is the preparation, in its many phases. You just need to recognize them, and pursue them.  And try, try, try to stay on task.  And why?

Because God is always there.  The objective is always there.  This world, no matter what it throws at you, cannot derail Gods plan and that is probably the biggest hurdle for a person to get over, which is focusing on Gods big plan and not on the little problems of the moment.

Psalm 22:20

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 22:20

20 Deliver [natsal] my soul [nephesh] from the sword; [chereb] my darling [yachiyd] from the power [yad] of the dog. [keleb] KJV-Interlinear

20 Deliver my soul from the sword, My only life from the power of the dog. NASB

Deliver, ‘natsal,’ means to snatch away, to deliver, to defend, to recover, to rescue, to prevent.

My soul is a reference to ones personal life or essence, the very basis of ones existence.

From the sword, is a phrase indicating death or removal from all that is meaningful and purposeful for ones life.

My darling, ‘yachiyd,’ means sole, oneness, one, beloved, lonely as in alone or unique, only as in only child or son.

Power of the dog, is a phrase that refers to enemies as nothing more than dirty, disgusting, violent animals that lack empathy, concern, or any remorse for their actions, let alone you.

And so, Jesus prays that this event on the cross will not result in His total and complete demise, thus separating Him from God forever in eternal death.  And of course it will not.

The punishment, the suffering, the judgment, even those who are enemies of all that is true and right and just, will fail in their efforts at trying to destroy the one and only unique Son of God.  The most valuable of all valuable persons.  The most precious of all precious persons.  The most loved as ones only child who is facing the greatest pressure of their life and of all of history.

Galatians 2:4

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 2:4

4 And [de] that because of [dia] false brethren [pseudadelphos] unawares brought in, [pareisaktos] who [hostis] came in privily [pareiserchomai] to spy out [kataskopeo] our [hemon] liberty [eleutheria] which [hos] we have [echo] in [en] Christ [Christos] Jesus, [Iesous] that [hina] they might bring [katadouloo] us [hemas] into bondage: [katadouloo] KJV-Interlinear

4 But it was because of the false brethren who had sneaked in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, in order to bring us into bondage. NASB

False brethren, means those who professed to be Christians, but coming into the local church with false gospel ideas.  Note the reference to the true gospel by Paul, from the previous chapter.

Coming in unawares or sneaked in, refers to their intent and motivation for becoming a part of this church or group. They came in with a prior commitment to their own ideas and principles, but did not let on that, it was their intent to spread their ideas using subtle means.

To spy out, to inspect, to learn what beliefs were being taught and learned and promoted by Paul.

Liberty refers to the freedom of decision, the freedom of action in ones own life.

And bondage, refers to the exact opposite, or slavery, dependence on someone else's ideas or mandates.

Therefore, there were those, persons not identified, who came among the local church groups of Galatia, they came in with premeditated intentions to counter Pauls teaching.

They would be labeled as obstinate, opinionated, perverse in secret, but otherwise presented themselves as good and decent people.

However, in presenting false doctrines, they were ignorant of the true doctrines taught by the Bible.  People that lack knowledge of truth, come up with their own ideas out of invention, out of convenience, out of emotional principles, out of distorted tradition.  They do not bother to learn truth, they are quite satisfied with what they have.

And their views were tied to works.  A person had to do something before they could be saved.  And they ignore that any unbeliever can so anything that a believer can do, but in the case of circumcision from the Hebrew tradition, only males can incur that action, not females.

When you make up your own rules, then you sooner or later have to come up with exceptions to the rule and then exceptions to that rule and then the bureaucracy of hypocrisy grows and grows out of control.  Judaism was the example of that result.  Islam followed with similar false rules and mandates.  And when sin is interwoven into a belief system, then it is very difficult for its followers to figure out the right from the wrong.

Self-righteous people always have an agenda, and generally it is as simple as their ideas are sufficient to be acceptable to God.   No standard is used to see the flaws.

And sooner or later, they become the worst representatives of Christianity as they distort true doctrine, and true spiritual function.

Galatians 2:3

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 2:3

3 But [alla] neither [oude] Titus, [Titos] who [ho] was with [sun] me, [emoi] being [on] a Greek, [Hellen] was compelled [anagkazo] to be circumcised: [peritemno] KJV-Interlinear

3 But not even Titus who was with me, though he was a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised.  NASB

Now the question that is being presented is beginning to be expressed.

Was circumcision a requirement for salvation, or not?

In Acts 16:3, Timothy was circumcised.  His father was a Greek and as such he was not circumcised when he was an infant.  However, Timothy submitted to circumcision voluntarily in order to remain compliant with the custom of the Jewish culture.  Nothing wrong with of cultural respect.

Titus, on the other hand did not submit to circumcision.  He too was from Greek parents and was not circumcised as an infant.

But our verse here states that he was being compelled to be circumcised in order to be saved.

This Paul resisted, because Titus for one, did not wish to be circumcised, and second, physical circumcision was not a requirement of salvation.  Faith and faith alone gains one salvation, not the cutting away of some body part.

So, the question was posed and the Apostles agreed with Paul, that circumcision was not a requirement.  Some pressed the issue as a matter of Jewish cultural principle, and Paul likewise objected on the basis of spiritual principle.  Spiritual principles always win out over anything man can invent or define.

Circumcision is the cutting away of an otherwise dead and worthless portion of the male anatomy.  This applies to males only.  Typically done shortly after birth, within a few days.  This is the symbolism of cutting away of a dead thing in ones soul.

Spiritual circumcision is the cutting away of that which is dead, spiritual death, within the soul.  And this applies to all people, both male and female.  Faith is the action of the cutting away of ones spiritual death, replacing it with eternal life.  Physical circumcision is the symbolic expression of faith, teaching the principle of faith.

While as an infant, someone else is doing all the work of salvation, symbolizing the work of God, and as an adult, then it takes a lot of faith to give someone else a knife and letting them cut away on your private.

Isaiah 10:4

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 10:4ues

4 Without me they shall [biltiy] bow down [kara`] under the prisoners, ['acciyr] and they shall fall [naphal] under the slain. [harag] For all this his anger ['aph] is not turned away, [shuwb] but his hand [yad] is stretched out still. [natah] KJV-Interlinear

4 Nothing remains but to crouch among the captives Or fall among the slain. In spite of all this His anger does not turn away, And His hand is still stretched out. NASB

There are fundamental mandates the Bible makes and expects of each individual while living in this world.  These expectations are all centered on truth and that means dealing with reality in truth rather than in delusional thinking.

The basics of Gods mandates is to look to Him who is the source of truth, and in looking to Him one is expected to believe in His plan, which is supported by truth.

Gods plan is centered on Jesus Christ.  So rejecting Christ is the same as rejecting God, and rejecting God is the same as rejecting Christ, and rejecting either is the same as rejecting truth.

That leaves one open to lies and nothing more.

When truth is rejected, then bad things occur.  People select bad leaders or allow bad leaders to come to power.

When truth is rejected, then leaders write bad laws, make bad legislation, begin the process of creating favored portions of society at the expense of others.  The strong take advantage of the weak.  Society on the whole, from top to bottom functions within the scope of false beliefs and opinions and attitudes.  Society rejects establishment principles and pursues alternate patterns of life, alternate patterns of society structure, false concepts in liberty and justice and freedoms.  Abuse of such power and authority results.

Society becomes weak as loyalties and patriotism vanish, and arguments against the security of a nation result.  And that makes a nation weak, especially in the eyes of other nations.  As a result, a nation that practices power over the weak, becomes subject to that same treatment from foreign nations.

Invasions are inevitable.

All of the important things that people look to, ones wealth, ones property, ones things, become at risk of loss.

And now for our verse.

Without God, without truth, without a legitimate spiritual life, then you have only two choices in life. You will either find yourself in with the captives, or in with the dead.  Your precious things, your precious attitude will be for naught and gone.  Captors take your things, and captors care nothing for your opinions.

And when God begins the application of His wrath on a nation, He will generally allow another nation, even if it is an evil nation, to become the tool of His bidding.

And when punishment is imposed, it continues and continues and continues until Gods justice is fully applied.

Gods outstretched hand symbolizes the application of an action, and that actions does not stop until it is completed.

This applies in history and will apply in the future.

Samaria and Judah were negative toward God and they were crushed by the Assyrians, by the Babylonians, by the Persians, by the Greeks, by the Romans and they have been negative throughout history, receiving crushing blows from time to time throughout history.

When the Tribulation begins, the entire world will be an unbelieving world, and the judgments will be horrendous.  But not until that future time, will Israel finally turn to Christ.  And the judgments against them, though crushing, will turn against their enemies across the world, but not before Israel is thoroughly crushed.

The example is in the past.  The prophecy is in the future.

Isaiah 10:3

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 10:3ues

3 And what will ye do [`asah] in the day [yowm] of visitation, [paquddah] and in the desolation [show'] which shall come [bow'] from far [merchaq]? to whom will ye flee [nuwc] for help [`ezrah]? and where will ye leave [`azab] your glory [kabowd]? KJV-Interlinear

3 Now what will you do in the day of punishment, And in the devastation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? And where will you leave your wealth?  NASB

Remember that most of the application of these prophecies is to the end days of history, even though there is an application to Judah and Samaria in Isaiah’s day, and to every person throughout history with regard to their individual lives.

When the visitation, or destruction of God, comes, it will come like a whirlwind with extreme calamity and devastation, and it will come with such a suddenness, that no one could possibly expect it.

It will come from afar.  And this means generally that it will come from beyond your expectation, from beyond your borders, from some foreign country.  But when applied to individuals it comes from beyond their thinking apparatus, from outside of their realm of expectations.

In the Tribulation, both of these applications will apply.  Foreign nations will come from afar to destroy Israel.  And as far as individuals are concerned, those who have no doctrine in them, it will strike without warning. They will be in shock.

Where then will your glory be placed?

The word for leave, means to deposit or to place. And this phrase lets the reader know that when disaster of the type being described, strikes, then there will be no time to gather up your possessions, no time to protect your property.

But this also applies to your inner glory or arrogance, which got you in this predicament in the first place.  So where will your opinions be now?  Where will your beliefs be now?  Where will your attitude be now?  Where will you place all that has been the priority of your life, but is now about to be totally wiped out as though it never existed?

For people who spend their entire life pursuing their owned definition of happiness or excitement or pleasures, and usually at the expense of others, even at the expense of themselves, then when disaster strikes and their realities turn out to be not so real, then they will realize too late, that they have nothing, gained nothing, and have wasted their entire life for nothing.

This applies to all unbelievers certainly, to all sinners for certain, and unfortunately to all those who believe that they have been doing God work, but are really not, because they rejected Gods mandates for study and learning and growth, and have been chasing after their own works or their own definition of the spiritual life which revolves around their own personal beliefs and conveniences, and not Gods commands.

Isaiah 10:2

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 10:2ues

2 To turn aside [natah] the needy [dal] from judgment, [diyn] and to take away [gazal] the right [mishpat] from the poor [`aniy] of my people, [`am] that widows ['almanah] may be their prey, [shalal] and that they may rob [bazaz] the fatherless [yathowm]! KJV-Interlinear

2 So as to deprive the needy of justice, And rob the poor of My people of their rights, In order that widows may be their spoil, And that they may plunder the orphans. NASB

Government officials or representatives certainly have the power to write and place into practice, regulations and laws.  Courts and judges have the power to rule on those laws, or control court proceedings.

But too, people in general have the wherewithal to pursue unjust practices against others to their advantage when others have no such resources or advantages.  Even people who apply gossip against others for no good reason but to bring harm on others.

So the previous verse applies not only to official applications of written rules, but also to people in general who write on their souls, the very bad things that bring harm in practice against others.

And all, do these things in order to pervert justice, to oppress those who lack the resources to even defend themselves either publically or privately, to deprive others of their liberties in the pursuit of their chosen lives, or whatever life they try to cling to, in this world.

Inevitably the strong take advantage of the weak, those with resources take advantage of those who lack resources, and power takes advantage of the powerless.  And even those who presume themselves to be in a position of advantage like gossips, try to take advantage of someone that they believe is at their mercy.

The needy and the widows and the orphans are descriptions of those who are at a disadvantage in life, but there are certainly more folks that lack advantage too, like the not so pretty, the not so thin, the unpopular, the unemployed, those with poor credit, those who lack sophistication or dynamics for life, the handicapped, and on and on.

And in this life, where all of humanity is at Gods mercy and grace, yet many try to take away that grace from others out of pure hate or greed, and for what?

God created a vast universe, which for us, is simply the backdrop environment for human history.  He did not have to create such a vast or sophisticated universe.  He could have made us all teeny tiny people living in someone's back yard or in a big forest, and not so vast and not so complex.

But here we are.  God has given us all a little piece of His favor, and has demonstrated that there is certainly far more to go around for all than anyone would ever need, and yet the vast majority of humanity is still not satisfied or even interested in Gods plan.

And instead of looking to God and waiting on Him, and preparing ourselves for eternity, there are those who prefer to deny others of their life from nothing more than selfish greed or hate.

Why do you suppose that is?
