Galatians 1:11

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 1:11

11 But [de] I certify [gnorizo] you, [humin] brethren, [adelphos] that [hoti] the gospel [euaggelion] which [ho] was preached [euaggelizo] of [hupo] me [emou] is [esti] not [ou] after [kata] man. [anthropos]KJV-Interlinear

11 For I would have you know, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. NASB

To certify, ‘gnorizo,’ means to declare, to make known.

And so, comparing the true gospel of Christ, to the various false gospels previously mentioned, which the people of Galatia have been openly listening to and accepting without question, here now Paul declares that the true gospel did not come from man.

This indicates clearly that all false gospels, and/or philosophies, and/or opinions that are not truth, are not from God, but are from man.

And where does man get the basis for his beliefs?  They are invented.  The come from the figment of his imagination.

God is the source of truth.  Man is not.

Man is not the source of anything other than error, deceit, and false information.  All religions in the world are mans invention, and have nothing to do with truth or reality.

And so Paul is going to explain just where he received his information in the next few verses, but for the moment, in this verse, he makes it clear that the true gospel did not come from man.

Paul did not invent it.  He did not manufacture it.  He was not taught it.  He did not receive instruction from any source of this world.  He did not go to school to learn it.  He was not bestowed any form of credentials by earning it, or working for it, or discovering it.

The true gospel, and for that matter, all doctrine, neither comes from this world or man in any way shape or form.

All scripture is God breathed, as the Bible states.  And anything invented by man is nothing more than hot air.

Isaiah 9:1

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 9:1

1 Nevertheless the dimness [muw`aph] shall not be such as was in her vexation, [muwtsaq] when [`eth] at the first [ri'shown] he lightly afflicted [qalal] the land ['erets] of Zebulun [Zabuwluwn] and the land ['erets] of Naphtali, [Naphtaliy] and afterward ['acharown] did more grievously afflict [kabad] her by the way [derek] of the sea, [yam] beyond [`eber] Jordan, [Yarden] in Galilee [Galiyl] of the nations. [gowy] KJV-Interlinear

1 But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles. NASB

Continuing on from the previous chapter, the gloom of the land, the land being all of Palestine, will be transformed from a time of affliction, into a time of honor.

The earlier times refers to the invasions beginning with Syria and continuing through the many centuries of occupation, suffered at the hands of the many empires, down to the time of the birth of Jesus.

During some of those invasions the land was afflicted, lightly at first, then more horrendously or grievously afflicted in later generations.

No more gloom begins with the birth of a child.  That child being Jesus, Isa. 9:6.  Who is referred to as the Messiah.  He will live mostly in the northern regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, near the Sea of Galilee and on or in the vicinity of the Jordan River.

And here we have the locations where Jesus will live and travel during most of his life during most of his ministry, Matt. 4:13-16.

And the glory comes to the region and to all of humanity, with the birth of Christ.

Likewise there will be yet another time which can be referred to as the former or earlier times, which will include the many centuries following the life of Jesus, up to and until the Second Advent.  Where the land will suffer from many invasions and hardships throughout the ages.

And at the end of the Tribulation, which will be the time of the most extreme affliction that will ever occur in the history of not only Israel but of all of humanity, then yet a second glory can be ascribed to the land at the Second Advent, when the afflictions will finally end and the Kingdom of God on earth will be established, Isa. 9:7.

Isaiah 8:22

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 8:22

22 And they shall look [nabat] unto the earth; ['erets] and behold trouble [tsarah] and darkness, [chashekah] dimness [ma`uwph] of anguish; [tsowq] and they shall be driven [nadach] to darkness. ['aphelah] KJV-Interlinear

22 Then they will look to the earth, and behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish; and they will be driven away into darkness. NASB

In the previous verses, people who look not to God and truth, but look to their own ideas, to their own agendas, to their own philosophies, to their own desires, to their own pretenses, whatever they are, sooner or later utterly fail in their efforts.

They seek to impress people, to gain popularity or notoriety if even in their own mind, all the while never seeing their own dismal failure forming right before their own eyes.

They get frustrated, anxious, anger and so forth.  And then they look for someone to blame.

They blame people, and they blame God.  Neither of which had anything to do with their choices.

When you are hurting, and blame God, what should you really expect?

And getting no satisfaction or answer or relief, these people, who lack truth in themselves, because they have ignored it probably for the most part of their lives, so they turn right back to the earth.  And this is a phrase that relates to the world and the worlds ideas, which got them into trouble in the first place.

And then Isaiah unleashes a list of descriptions, trouble, dimness, anguish, and the final descriptive word is, driven.

And the word for driven is the real key to the life of the spiritually negative person.  Driven to darkness, ‘nadach aphelah,’ really means, a darkness that is driven.

And so, anyone who is indifferent toward God or truth, drives themself deeper and deeper into the darkness of the unrealistic life they have chosen.

Whether is of some poor soul that chooses a philosophy to follow in life, or a poor soul that pretends they are something that they are not, or someone who is simply stubborn in their ways, it all comes down to their refusal to turn their life and their attention and their attitude, into a humble and selfless attitude toward changing their inner views of life and conforming to those things that God expects.

The Bible is clear as to what the spiritual life is, as to what God expects, and just how easy it is to utilize in ones life.  But people ignore those things with a passion and seek to make their lives more difficult with all of their efforts to think smarter than God.

What effort is there in salvation?  Believe in Christ.  That is a mere thought.

What effort is there in confession?  ‘Father I did this and that and this and that.’  That is simply acknowledging and listing your errors.

What effort is there in listening to or reading scripture that is being taught?  You just listen or read.

What effort is there in learning?  You can learn by default merely by the repetition of the last sentence.

How much effort is there in figuring it all out?  God the Holy Spirit, makes all truth clear and perspicuous.

What really do you have to do, in order to have a successful spiritual life and therefore a successful life?  Almost nothing, but listen and learn.

And by default when you learn something, you begin using it in your daily life.  And using doctrine in your daily life becomes your spiritual production, which is the building and completion process of your own self.

Or, you could ignore all of this as nonsense and go right back to your own better ideas, which will get you where?

Isaiah 8:21

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 8:21

21 And they shall pass [`abar] through it, hardly bestead [qashah] and hungry: [ra`eb] and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, [ra`eb] they shall fret [qatsaph] themselves, and curse [qalal] their king [melek] and their God, ['elohiym] and look [panah] upward. [ma`al]  KJV-Interlinear

21 And they will pass through the land hard-pressed and famished, and it will turn out that when they are hungry, they will be enraged and curse their king and their God as they face upward.  NASB

They that pass through, is a reference to any and all people who look to false ideas, false beliefs, false philosophies and so forth, for the answers to their problems, for support for their beliefs, for justification of their lifestyle and so forth.

Hardly bestead, refers to being agitated, frustrated, unsatisfied as to the inadequacy of the results they get, from their pursuits in false directions.

Hungry, means unsatisfied, wanting more, never getting enough, dissatisfied, discontented.

Passing through it, refers to their daily lives.  They will continue day in and day out, doing and pursuing the same ideas and beliefs and attitudes, never changing, never learning, never seeing their own flaws.

Fret or enraged, is the result of the false pursuits of life.  Frustration is the only possible result of a flawed effort. When things are false, then the result will always be failure.  One can never find success in pursuing lies, deceit, or invented ideas that lack substance in reality.  And when things do not work out, then frustration, agitation, grief, anxiety, anger and so forth, are the result.

And when people get upset over their failures, or their lack of success in their efforts, then guess who they blame?

God, the one true God.

Now go figure.  They pursue false beliefs from the world, but blame God for their failure in the use of their flawed efforts.  Why would that be Gods fault?

They look upward, to God, for success by means of their pursuit of lies or immoralities, or pretended moralities.

But God does not support or sponsor lies. God will not let your pursuits succeed, when your pursuits are false.

You want to work for salvation, work for your spiritual life, work for love, have things your way, when all the while you are not truthful or are deceitful in your agenda?  And you blame God for things that are your fault?

You want things your way, with total disregard to the things that God expects of you, and you blame God for that?

Unfaithful people never look to themselves for the answers as to their own failures, they want to blame someone else.  And of course God is easy to blame.  After all He is not going to talk back to, or argue with you, at least right now.

But what God will do is stand by and allow you to have your tantrum, allow you to go your own way, all the while you do have truth available to you to figure things out, but indifference and stubbornness gets in your way, and whose fault is that?

Psalm 22:3

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 22:3

3 But thou art holy, [qadowsh] O thou that inhabitest [yashab] the praises [tahillah] of Israel. [Yisra'el] KJV-Interlinear

3 Yet Thou art holy, O Thou who art enthroned upon the praises of Israel. NASB

The prayer continues from the cross, and should continue from you no matter where you are or what your circumstances might be in life.

God has forsaken, or relinquished His presence from the cross and from Jesus.

God delays in answering the prayers for rescue, as the importance of the cross is more important than any personal relief.

The cross was planned in eternity past and when it actually occurred, many thousands if not millions if not billions of years had passed, leading up to this precise moment and event in history.

God was not going to come all this way through history, and simply stop or quit.  Too many lives, too many people from all of history depended on Gods faithfulness and work on the cross.

Jesus continues His prayer.  God is holy, set apart, clean, pure, untainted, a sanctuary.

And even though the circumstances of Jesus are dire, He placed God the Father in a place of perfection, and not in a place of blame.

God has a plan, and that plan called for the cross, and in many cases, for certain suffering to enter into the lives of people.  How will you react?  How will you deal with your faith toward God?  How will you question what is happening or not happening in your life?

Jesus expresses and simultaneously teaches us how to express confidence in God, no matter what we might face in life.

For God inhabits the praises of Israel.

Israel is a genuine nation.  It is made up of people and a geographical area on the planet.

But Israel is also symbolic of Gods people, namely everyone who believes in Christ and is therefore saved and a member of Gods family and spiritual nation.

While God dwelled in the Tabernacle throughout the history of the Israelites, and was surrounded by those praising Him, that indwelling was symbolic of God indwelling within the nation, and therefore every individual member of that nation.  God indwells every believer and does so from the moment of your salvation.

The indwelling did not become functional and active until after the cross, and more specifically after the beginning of our current dispensation, but once salvation had been secured, then when a person believes in Christ, one of the many blessings that comes to the believer is the indwelling of each and every member of the trinity.

Review the blessings list study found in the online library under special studies.

You cannot feel that indwelling, nor sense it, nor detect it.  It is simply there and will remain so forever.

So, you have something that no unbeliever has.  And, you will have it forever, thus an additional security of your eternal life, and an additional promise of a wonderful life in heaven with God forever.

God is the center of all believers praises, and God is in the center of every believer.

Psalm 22:2

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 22:2

2 O my God, ['elohiym] I cry [qara'] in the daytime, [yowmam] but thou hearest [`anah] not; and in the night season, [layil] and am not silent. [duwmiyah]  KJV-Interlinear

2 O my God, I cry by day, but Thou dost not answer; And by night, but I have no rest. NASB

Daytime, means during the daytime hours and refers to incessant plea, or all day long.

Night season, refers to constant and repetitive, or constantly.

Oh my God, is an expression of tremendous pressure, wherein the person praying is in an extreme state and calls upon to the only one who can help.

Hear not, ‘anah,’ means that God takes no action in response to the prayer, but instead allows the pressure or suffering, to continue.  God hears every prayer, but there are times when no action is the correct response.

This psalm is Messianic in nature.

It describes the pressure that was applied to Jesus during the crucifixion.  It describes the policy of God regarding the continuation of the crucifixion without interruption.

Jesus prayed constantly and continually, day and night, to let us know that this was an intense time and event.  It was the most extreme event in all of history, and yet Jesus endured it voluntarily, ‘Not my will but thy will,’ as referred to the plan of the Father, the divine plan to secure the salvation opportunity for everyone.

While on the cross, Jesus prayed during the hours of light, when he was on the cross, but prior to the time period of the judgment.  He prayed constantly during the darkness hours, when the judgment was being applied.

There was no silence, indicates that His prayers were continual and He never let up.

So, even though Jesus Himself was enduring the many pains and sufferings of the cross, He did not let go of prayer.

Even though God the Father, who is the proper person to whom all prayers are offered, heard all of the prayers, and especially from His own Trinity companion, who had the title of Son of God, He still withheld an answer to alleviate Jesus from those sufferings, because the purpose of the cross which was established in eternity past, was more important than the request of the individual.

No one and nothing, not even God, was going to alter, or change, or terminate the crucifixion.  Its purpose was more important than anything else.  The event of the cross was the cornerstone event of all of history.  Without it, history had no purpose.  We would have no purpose.

God created man to spend time and live with God, for all of eternity, as a completed man.

Sin stood in the way of that destiny.  Therefore, sin had to be dealt with and removed in order for Gods plan to continue and succeed.

No one could accomplish that plan, except God.
