1 Thessalonians 4:2

2 For [gar] ye know [eido] what [tis] commandments [paraggelia] we gave [didomi] you [humin] by [dia] the Lord [kurios] Jesus. [Iesous] KJV-Interlinear

2 For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. NASB

There is no excuse for anyone not advancing in their spiritual life. Opportunity is openly and freely available to all.

There is no excuse for anyone not having knowledge of the realities of life that surrounds their life.

There are more than enough examples of the infinity of God. The vastness of the heavens above, the depth of the details of creation all around us (atoms, DNA, genetics, light spectrum, sound waves, human anatomy, the details of life in general), the limitations of life itself (birth, death, physical limitations), things that speak to God and a higher deity (churches, cemeteries, religions, and such).

To this and more, there is no excuse for anyone not having heard the name of Jesus Christ. His is the most common name known to everyone on the planet.

There is no excuse for anyone not wondering about life after death.

There is no excuse for anyone not recognizing the smallness of their lifespan, when mapped on the infinite timeline of eternity.

And so Paul states here very clearly, that people ‘know,’ things regarding life and God and eternity. He specifically indicates the knowledge of the Thessalonians regarding the things he has been mentioning in this letter. But to that, we can easily add that everyone knows of God, of the devil, of the fight between the two, and much more.

People are not without knowledge, and therefore to go through life, not pursuing the answers to their questions, going through life, presuming that this life is all that there is, going through life with an indifference toward the overwhelming realities that surround us all, provides them with no basis for excusing themselves when they and eternity finally meet face to face.

Truth is universally available to all. Truth is self evident to all. Truth needs no crutch to lean on and needs no explanation because it is made clear by means of the Holy Spirit.

Those who recognize this principle, are one step closer to their fullest and most complete life possible.

Those who ignore this principle, make the most noise, boast the most regarding their own ideas, and will continue to pursue command of the world, which will always be elusive to them. Only after their life has come to an end and they meet Jesus face to face, will they realize their reckless foolishness. But of course it is too late by then.
