Isaiah 10:15

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 10:15ues

15 Shall the axe [garzen] boast [pa'ar] itself against him that heweth [chatsab] therewith? or shall the saw [massowr] magnify [gadal] itself against him that shaketh [nuwph] it? as if the rod [shebet] should shake [nuwph] itself against them that lift it up, [ruwm] or as if the staff [matteh] should lift up [ruwm] itself, as if it were no wood. [`ets] KJV-Interlinear

15 Is the axe to boast itself over the one who chops with it? Is the saw to exalt itself over the one who wields it? That would be like a club wielding those who lift it, Or like a rod lifting him who is not wood. NASB

The axe, the saw, the rod, the staff are all tools used by a person who uses these tools for his purpose.

The axe is wielded by the axe-man, not the other way around.

The saw is moved back and forth by the saw-man not the other way around.

The rod is lifted by the person holding it, the rod does not lift the person up and move the person.

The staff is handled by the person who is not wood, and not the other way around.  The staff does not handle the person.

To presume these things in reverse, would make all things natural, un-natural.  It would make things that are inanimate as thinking creatures that handle the person rather than tools for a persons use.

And so Assyria in its arrogance, and anyone for that matter, who makes God out to be the object of their use, or themselves the instrument of their own bidding, is reversing the natural order or things and of life.

God is the author and finisher of life.  God defined and designed the divine plan that we call the divine decrees, and in those decrees He creates and takes life in accordance with His will.  He made provision for history and individuals in accordance with His will.  God, namely Jesus Christ, controls history, not man.

Man may have his own designs on life and history, but God has seen it all, and has made provisions such that evil will not reign over the world.

God placed people into history, who would see things, discover things, invent things, innovate things, and so forth.

God brought together people and circumstances that would preserve and perpetuate history.

God designed history to serve truth, with a destiny of freedom and liberty and eternal life and more.

Man views history from an evil perspective, from the short term satisfaction of personal or lustful pleasures and physical wants and needs.

Assyria did not see their role in history as a tool of God to correct the spiritual back sliding of Israel, but as an agenda of their own design for wealth and power and lusts of every sort.

That is how most folks view their life.  Everyone wants more, now, and they plan their life from weekend to weekend, from job to job, from working years to retirement years, with every thought looking at their life in this world only.  Sometimes there is an afterthought of heaven and such, but mostly people think little of heaven or God except for their own personal view of themselves and how their righteousness and sincerity are sufficient.

Or as with the Assyrians, people think only of their gains, or revenge, or hate, or getting ahead at the expense of others, or they are consumed with their self-image, self-pity, self-denial, and so forth.  That leaves us with the full range of human attitude and philosophy or beliefs that mostly have nothing to do with God or reality.

God is the craftsman, we are the tools.

The craftsman uses you in accordance with His choosing and liking.  You as a tool do not use Him or choose your own use.

God created history in order to allow people from all successive generations, to learn of Christ, to learn of doctrine, to advance in their spiritual life, such that they will have a wonderful life forever with Him.

Satan has tried to upset this plan by destroying everything.  Most people do the same with their indifference or hate or complaining or lusts, etc.

You can look in the mirror and ask yourself, ‘What have I done, what am I doing, to promote Gods plan for myself and/or for others?’  Or, ‘Am I just too full of myself and thinking only of myself?’  ‘I am a tool, therefore what is my use?’

And the answers are as many as there are people.

Some innovate things that help others.  Some pay money that helps others. Some create business or jobs.  Some create entertainment.  Some change diapers and training.  Some build.  Some do other things.  Most do a number of things that are a part of their life.

But all must and should study Gods word, Bible doctrine, in order to receive their own training and understanding and comprehension of what exactly their life is meant to be.

For without the foundation of doctrine in the soul, which comes only from a consistent daily study, then there is nothing with which to understand or orient to life.

Without trials and errors in life, there is no understanding of the pitfalls of life, no empathy, no humility.

Without the application of truth to ones daily life, there is no production, no use, no value in ones own essence.

You are an incomplete person until you learn doctrine, until you use doctrine, until you grow up in your spiritual life.  And that includes learning and knowing your place in life as God has designed for you, not as you have designed for yourself.

Isaiah 10:14

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Isaiah 10:14ues

14 And my hand [yad] hath found [matsa'] as a nest [qen] the riches [chayil] of the people: [`am] and as one gathereth ['acaph] eggs [beytsah] that are left, [`azab] have I gathered ['acaph] all the earth; ['erets] and there was none that moved [nadad] the wing, [kanaph] or opened [patsah] the mouth, [peh] or peeped. [tsaphaph]  KJV-Interlinear

14 And my hand reached to the riches of the peoples like a nest, And as one gathers abandoned eggs, I gathered all the earth; And there was not one that flapped its wing or opened its beak or chirped." NASB

The Assyrians looked at their adversaries as birds, and their lands as empty nests for the taking.

Their attitude is that they can and did move in with ease.  They destroyed any and all they attacked, and they took what they may, at their will.

As a predator collects eggs from an abandoned nest, when the bird has left and is nowhere to be found, so too, the Assyrians moved in and took at their leisure.

People had either run away, or were captured or killed and therefore posed no threat, and certainly no barrier to taking the loot left behind.  There was no opposition, not even a peep.

But the underlying current of this thought pattern is that the Assyrians presumed that it was they who made this opportunity for themselves.  That it was they who destroyed their enemies.  That it was they who managed and controlled all of their success in the invasion and battle.

But that is not the case.

God saw these events in eternity past.  God brought to bear all who would be born, all who would grow up, all who would participate.  It was God who directed these events even through the decisions of men.

It is God who gives life.  It is God who removes life.

It is God who gives success.  It is God who removes success.

God controls history, not you.

God placed you and every individual into history at a time of His choosing, not yours.

God provided for all circumstances, not you.

God gave every person free will and free volition, and the right to decide for themselves.  And God allows everyone to drive their own life.

But it is God also, who knows your heart and your course, and it is God who will allow you to proceed, or who will derail you.

All things work together for good.  Good is the ultimate outcome of everything, regardless of the temporary setbacks that seemingly come along from time to time.

You can either work within Gods plan, or you can fight it through your own opinions and attitudes and whining complaints or indifference.

Even nations and empires have invaded and taken and enslaved at their leisure.  Who in this world or throughout history has greater power than an empire?  No one.  And yet they are all gone.

Technology does not make empires of today any greater than the empires of old.

Philosophy does not make the politics of today any greater than the rulers of old.

Economics does not make the business of today any greater than the powerful traders of old.

God has foreseen everything.  God has planned for everything.  God has made provision for every possibility.

And man, and especially you, have none of these things at your disposal.

The big question for you is, are you going to presume your superiority or eliteness because of that which God did and does?  Or, will you use your success or talent or ability or circumstances, whether they are good or bad, to do Gods bidding, because it is He who gave you that opportunity, great or small, to serve His plan and will, and not your own?

Psalm 22:27

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 22:27

27 All the ends ['ephec] of the world ['erets] shall remember [zakar] and turn [shuwb] unto the LORD: [Yahovah] and all the kindreds [mishpachah] of the nations [gowy] shall worship [shachah] before [paniym] thee. KJV-Interlinear

27 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, And all the families of the nations will worship before Thee. NASB

When Jesus went to the cross, that was the lowest point of human history and the low point of human spirituality.

Daniel prophesied the year of Christ’s birth and death.  The Magi recognized the prophecy and its date and traveled a very long way just to meet and see the baby, when people who lived nearby did not even think of it.  The birth was further prophesied when the nation of Judea would lose its national identity, losing its scepter of autonomy, which occurred when Rome was the first empire to institute a census and tax.  This could have happened with any of the prior occupying forces in the previous centuries, but did not.

Even the line of David which was to be the source of the Messiah, and yet no one bothered to monitor that lineage.  All emphasis and focus had been shifted to the priesthood and not the royal dynasty.

When Jesus hung on the cross, even after three and a half years of the most remarkable series of miracles, none of which could be matched or duplicated by anyone, all the people and especially the Pharisees who were the supposed experts of scripture, mocked and despised the very person they had been waiting for, for centuries and had now arrived.

Virtually no one recognized the signs, and virtually no one bothered to check on or verify the signs by comparing the actual events with scripture.  That is the quintessence of indifference toward truth when people ignore the facts around them, and look only to their short sighed ego’s or lusts or complaints or poor-me attitudes.

And so, the one and only unique person of the universe was not recognized, and was ridiculed and executed without a fair trial, and without legitimate charges.

But God, in His infinite wisdom, took mans actions, and turned evil into good, into mans salvation through Christ’s own work on the cross.

And in the end of it all, when humanity the world over and throughout history, ignores and rejects God and His phenomenal plan for each individual person in their own individual life, will one day turn all their arrogant opinions and attitudes into praise.

Psalm 22:26

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 22:26

26 The meek [`anav] shall eat ['akal] and be satisfied: [saba`] they shall praise [halal] the LORD [Yahovah] that seek [darash] him: your heart [lebab] shall live [chayah] for ever. [`ad] KJV-Interlinear

26 The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the Lord. Let your heart live forever! NASB

This is the devils world.  As such all who live in it are the afflicted, the poor, the destitute, simply because of his opposition to all of creation and his agenda of defeating God in whatever fashion he can.

However, among those who have or will live in this world, not all will be blessed.  Many will reject Gods plan and will choose the Lake of Fire instead of heaven.

But, there will be those who will choose for Gods plan, who will believe in Christ, and who will have a good destiny in heaven.

The meek refers to believers only.  For it is the meek, which refers to the afflicted, the poor, the destitute.  And this is not a strict economic or personal description, but a universal description of all believers, as they are all enemies of Satan, and their (our) situation is such that Satan has invented a world of sorrow, of burdens, or anti-truth philosophies.  Our most obvious burden is a temporary physical life.  We will all die one day and from that there is no escape.  Physical death is the ultimate affliction, rendering all things of this physical life, destitute.

Just in this past week, the events that have been unfolding in Boston should make it very clear that evil can come from anywhere, and suffering can come upon anyone at anytime.  As I write this study for tomorrow (each study is written the evening prior to the day of study), the second suspect was taken into custody, thus ending that aspect of the crime that unfolded in Boston.

And as we will likely hear this news for several days as more and more information comes to light, we can certainly look to our daily study which describes the suffering of Christ, which was done in our behalf so that one day, no more of these burdens, or burdens of any kind, will be a part of our life.

And here, the meek, all believers, shall be satisfied, ‘saba,’ which means to be the recipient of an abundance of blessing, to be filled, to be satisfied.  And this is used in conjunction with eternity, and therefore means an abundance of blessing which is beyond calculation.

The heart, is typically used as the thinking portion of the soul.  The aspect that pumps or circulates thought throughout your soul.

Praise of the Lord is stated here in complete contrast to the mocking and insults that He received while on the cross.

Forever, is a reference to eternity.  And in order to be satisfied for all of eternity, you have to have life.  And to have life for all of eternity you must have eternal life.  And since all people die, and since this is a reference to believers past, present and future, then resurrection is a must for everyone, sooner or later.

So, from the insults of the cross, there will eventually be the vindication of eternity.  From the affliction sought after by some, there will be abundant blessing.

Galatians 2:10

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 2:10

10 Only [monon] they would that [hina] we should remember [mnemoneuo] the poor; [ptochos] the same [autos] [touto] which [hos] I [spoudazo] also [kai] was forward [spoudazo] to do. [poieo] KJV-Interlinear

10 They only asked us to remember the poor —  the very thing I also was eager to do. NASB

From the previous verse, Paul along with Barnabas, had a conversation with James, Peter and John.

In that conversation was discussed the requirements of salvation and the role of which circumcision had in salvation.  And, that circumcision had no role in salvation, therefore was not a requirement of salvation, and therefore any gentile who believed in Christ would not be required to be circumcised in order to somehow confirm or seal his salvation.

Also, was discussed the respective audience of James, Peter and John, as opposed to Paul and Barnabas.

James, Peter, and John preferred to take the message of the gospel of Christ, to the Jewish peoples (the circumcised), while Paul was to take the same exact message of the gospel of Christ to the gentile people (the uncircumcised).

Circumcision was the tradition of the Jewish people and had been since Abraham circumcised himself many centuries prior.  Non-Jewish people back then, the gentiles, did not practice circumcision as a matter of culture or tradition.  This also was a tradition and practice that set Abraham and his faith, apart from the other nations and peoples of his time.  Even the muslim religion of today who wrongly and arbitrarily claim Abraham as their father, do not practice circumcision.

And even though western civilization took up that practice, it was out of the Christian influence that gentile peoples adopted that practice.  Today there are now good medical reasons for using circumcision which again has nothing to do with salvation.

And finally, since the thrust of their respective gospel missions was going in different directions, James, Peter and John requested that the poor of Judea (implied by their conversation), would not be forgotten.

Paul states clearly that he would not forget but would remember and help with enthusiasm as best he could.

James, Peter and John would naturally have a soft spot in their hearts for their people and would want to help them as much as possible.

Paul on the other hand, was more mission oriented, as his directive was issued directly from God, to spread the truth to the gentile people, a much larger task spreading the word to the entire world.

And even though James, Peter and John had a smaller group, the Jewish people, to focus on, their burden was directed toward a people who were more stiff necked toward the truth, despite their having custody of that truth for many centuries since the time of Moses.

God has promised all generations that that race, the Jewish race, would enter into the Kingdom of God, which we know will not occur until the second-advent.

That kingdom we know, has not yet occurred and that many centuries have already passed.  So to maintain some semblance of Jewish Christianity across many centuries and generations until then would be a huge undertaking.  Something that man cannot control or accomplish, and only God can do.

Remembering the poor would be difficult enough, while in their day, just existing in the face of a world full of anti-Christian policies was to be an overwhelming task.
