Psalm 34:20

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Psalm 34:20

20 He keepeth [shamar] all his bones [`etsem]: not one ['echad] of them [hennah] is broken [shabar].   KJV-Interlinear

20 He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.   ESV

The deliverance of the Christian, follows the pattern of the deliverance and protection of the Savior.

When Christ went to the cross, the typical policy of the executioners was to break the bones of the one hanging on the cross, in order to hurry their death.

However, Jesus was already dead physically and therefore His legs were not broken, thus the fulfillment of this prophecy.

But in this psalm, the non-broken bones of the righteous, or of the individual believer is stated in a way that portrays the protection of the person, by God.

This has nothing to do with a person falling or breaking a bone from time to time.  Obviously that happens in life.

But the principle here is to symbolize the entire framework of the body, which is in reference to the person.  God protects the whole, not just a part or portion here or there, but the whole life of the individual believer.

God protected Jesus, in the helplessness of His humanity while hanging on the cross, and foresaw the protection hundreds of years prior to the time of the cross, and so too, God protects the individual believer, having foreseen the need for protection clear back in eternity past.

Psalm 34:19

19 Many [rab] are the afflictions [ra`] of the righteous [tsaddiyq]: but the LORD [Y@hovah] delivereth [natsal] him out of them all.  KJV-Interlinear

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.   ESV

The word for afflictions covers a wide spectrum of difficulties that are common to humanity.

Whether you have problems in your social life, or in your employment, in health, in business, in education, in marriage, in family, financial problems, and the list goes on and on and on.  Thus many are the afflictions.

Throughout history Christians have had to endure the common day to day pressures that most of us have to face during our lives, and in some cases they have had to endure much more gruesome atrocities at the hands of nature or government or bureaucracy or people.

But the principle here is that, no matter what your problems, no matter how light or severe, no matter the duration, whether short of long lasting, all problems are solved and put away by God, sooner or later.

Often times He removes us from this world and that ends all hardship.  No more sorrow, no more tears, etc.

But too, many hardships are removed while we are still here.  We endure, and we survive, and we learn and grow up as a result of our experiences.

There is never a guarantee of a perfect life in this life.  This is the devils world.  But one day, all problems will be removed, and that is Gods promise.  Problems will never follow us into eternity.

Romans 3:1

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Romans 3:1

1 What [tis] advantage [perissos] then [oun] hath the Jew [Ioudaios]? or [e] what [tis] profit [opheleia] is there of circumcision [peritome]?   KJV-Interlinear

1 Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision?   ESV

In previous verses, being a Jew was called into question, as to its advantages, when and if any gentile can keep the Law or the spirit of the Law, even if they do not know of its existence.  They do right as a result of their own common sense and conscience.

But the point is not whether or not a person can differentiate between right and wrong, even without written guidelines.  The point here is that God provided those guidelines and He provided them in writing so as to establish them from Him who is the ultimate authority and sovereign of all of creation, and, the Jewish peoples, whether they were a righteous lot or not, actually kept those written words, faithfully, and not for just a few years, but over many centuries and across the span of many generations.

For by the written word, many have come to know that their common sense is correct, but also, common sense can be turned awry, and therefore a standard that is absolute and unchangeable, must be in place in order to keep man on a straight path.  A path that is not subject to compromise or manipulation or popular thought.

Furthermore, being a Jew, establishes the faithfulness of Gods promises to Jews.  Promises that span the entirety of human history, all the way to the Second Advent.  And therefore the faithfulness of Gods promises to all.

But in every case, knowing right from wrong, whether you gain that knowledge from the Law or from common sense, it is faith that determines salvation, not ones personal conduct or the commendability of ones conduct.

There is no advantage to keeping a Law when the Law is unkeepable, over doing that which is right and comes naturally.  Neither obtain salvation. Therefore neither possess any advantage for life.

Salvation is the priority, not ones personal conduct.

Romans 2:29

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Romans 2:29

29 But [alla] he is a Jew [Ioudaios], which is one inwardly [en] [kruptos]; and [kai] circumcision [peritome] is that of the heart [kardia], in [en] the spirit [pneuma], and not [ou] in the letter [gramma]; whose [hos] praise [epainos] is not [ou] of [ek] men [anthropos], but [alla] of [ek] God [theos].   KJV-Interlinear

29 But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.    ESV

The word Jew, refers to the people of God.  The Jew is not merely a descendant of Abraham due to genetics or birth.  But a Jew is the person chosen by God, by means of Gods rules for being chosen.  Namely, through faith in Christ.

Being a descendant of Abraham does not make you a person of Gods choosing.

Faith is the criteria for determining if you are a person of God, or not.

The inward person is determined by the content of the soul. What you think, is what you are.

Circumcision is the function or the expression of faith.  And since when an infant child is circumcised only once, never over and over and over, again, and again for obvious reasons, then faith only has to be expressed once.

When you first believed in Christ, that is all that salvation requires.  One expression of faith gains you salvation.  And once saved always saved.  You can never lose your salvation.

When you are saved, you are born again.

By the Spirit, refers to the action of the Holy Spirit wherein you are made a new spiritual species.  You are born again. God, at the very moment of your faith, creates within you, a human spirit.  Prior to salvation, each and every human being has no human spirit.  But once you believe in Christ, then God creates within you, a human spirit and imputes into that spirit, eternal life.

No written document, no human effort, no works or activity is ever involved in your salvation.

And just as you cannot undo a circumcision, just as you cannot undo a birth, just as you cannot undo the membership of the family that you are born into, then so too, your salvation is irreversible and cannot be undone.

Once saved, always saved.

Once born into the family of God, always a member of the family of God.
