Isaiah 16:12

Copyright Ó 2014 J. Neely
Isaiah 16:12ues

12 And it shall come to pass, when it is seen [ra'ah] that Moab [Mow'ab] is weary [la'ah] on the high place [bamah], that he shall come [bow'] to his sanctuary [miqdash] to pray [palal]; but he shall not prevail [yakol].  KJV-Interlinear

12 So it will come about when Moab presents himself, When he wearies himself upon his high place, And comes to his sanctuary to pray, That he will not prevail.  NASB

And in those final days, when all of these things come to pass, when the country is desolated, her cities destroyed, her fields and crops destroyed, her people slain, and when it is apparent that all is truly lost, then the people, or those who are still alive, will run to the various temples looking for help from false gods.

High places, is a reference to the location of the temples.  Typically constructed on hill tops or mountain tops or any high ground such that the surrounding area can easily view the temple.

These temples are viewed as places of sanctuary, a place that will provide protection from whatever the problems of life come along.

But these are false gods and false temples, and false sanctuaries.  They offer no protection, and no provision, and no answers.

And as stated here, the people looking to their false gods, will find nothing.

Pray as you might to a stone or a picture or a religion or whatever, these things have no life, no ears, no eyes, and cannot hear or see you.  And, they certainly cannot help, for they do not exist as forms of deity.

They are only rocks or pictures in paint, or false and invented religions.

The problems are clear.

The people that are running know full well why they are running.  They refused to observe Christ as the one true God.  They refused to provide aid and shelter to Gods people.  The Jews are their object of hatred, and they know why they hate them.  The Christians are objects of their hatred and they know why they hate them.

And yet they turn to false gods made of lifeless inanimate objects.  They turn to gods of philosophy or religion which are nothing more than invented opinions formed from fancy rhetoric. They turn to gods of things, secular things, the hustle and bustle of human effort to gain riches or wealth or simply to gain things.

And everything in this world is temporary.  Nothing in this world is permanent.

Only bible doctrine is permanent, and doctrine in the soul provides the permanence of the completion of oneself.

To look to anything else, other than bible doctrine, leads to certain and guaranteed failure.

Isaiah 16:11

Copyright Ó 2014 J. Neely
Isaiah 16:11ues

11 Wherefore my bowels [me`ah] shall sound [hamah] like an harp [kinnowr] for Moab [Mow'ab], and mine inward parts [qereb] for Kirharesh [Qiyr Cheres].  KJV-Interlinear

11 Therefore my heart intones like a harp for Moab, And my inward feelings for Kir-hareseth.   NASB

The bowels, often refer to the deep emotions, 1 Kings 3:26; Ps 25:6; Prov 12:10; Song 5:4; Isa 63:15; Jer 4:19; 31:20; Phil 1:8; 2:1.  The harp, amplifies that deep seated emotion, and in the case of Moab, the emotions refer to the extreme grieving and sorrow and punishment that they are or will be, enduring during this future time.

History has given us several examples of disasters of a country that has gone against God, and His chosen people, and where are they and their leaders today?  Gone, destroyed, obliterated, and replaced with a new generation that has the opportunity to not make those same mistakes.

But in the end, lessons will not be learned, and old hatreds and biases will return, and that will be the undoing of a people that has set itself against God, remained indifferent toward God, even attempting to destroy the things of the God that they themselves reject.

How can you reject God, and then take the position of destroying the things of a God that you refuse to recognize?  That is the quintessence of contradiction.

Nearly all, if not all, who reject Christ and the Bible, want to debate the Bible, in order to promote their own false ideas.  If an idea is true then it needs no debate to stand.  And the Bible needs no justification for what it is.  Truth is always evident to the objective observer, but never recognized by the subjective onlooker.

The nation disappears, the city disappears. And when this happens in its finality, then they will never rise up again in their arrogance and evil.  Their legacy is nothing more than deep sorrow and grieving, which too, will eventually disappear along with them.

Psalm 29:5

Copyright Ó 2014 J. Neely
Psalm 29:5

5 The voice [qowl] of the LORD [Yahovah] breaketh [shabar] the cedars ['erez]; yea, the LORD [Yahovah] breaketh [shabar] the cedars ['erez] of Lebanon [Labanown].  KJV-Interlinear

5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; Yes, the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.  NASB

The cedar trees of Lebanon are often referred to as lofty and grand especially in their size, Psalms 29:5
1 Kings 4:33; 5:6; Ps 92:12; Ezra 3:7.   And here the thunder of Gods voice, is sound and not a reference to the lightning behind the thunder, and when sound can cause a huge tree to collapse or break apart, then that sound is powerful indeed.  And obviously the lightning that caused the sound has to be phenomenal too.

Lightning and thunder are generally accompanied with wind and rain or hail or tornadoes and such other things.  And so it would be easy to understand the destruction that can be caused by a giant storm.  But no such reference is made to the other components of a storm.  This is not even a reference to a storm.  It is only a reference to the voice of God.

And not only is it referred to as dynamic and overwhelming, but it contains inherent destructive power.  Power that nothing can stand before it.

And as mentioned yesterday, there are seven references to Gods voice, molded in the form of thunder.  Just as in Revelation, there are mentioned seven thunders that will occur in the Tribulation, but their exact nature is sealed up and not disclosed.

We can speculate that this might refer to the seven continents being destroyed, or to seven meteors colliding into the world with huge and catastrophic results.  These would certainly be accompanied with noise in the extreme.  But of course any speculation would be only that.  Your imagination can probably picture many possible scenarios, but most likely none of our guesses will be right.

But we also have to interpret the passages as they were intended in the time in which they were written.  And back in Davids day, this type of power of sound was most likely unheard of and therefore intended to put anyone and everyone who might hear of it, in a state of overwhelming awe.

In our current day, we have seen many catastrophes.  We know that sound can break glass if focused correctly and at the right frequency.  But that would be manmade and on a very small scale.

So, when thunder rolls across a vast region and destroys everything in its path, then that should cause everyone to sit up and take notice.  But will it?  No.

When the Tribulation does occur, people will be so detached and disengaged and desensitized to awesome power, that when these things do occur, and when the world is literally coming apart, they will still resist looking to Christ as Lord.  And that is just how far down society will have fallen spiritually, and into evil, thus causing the need for the end of it all.

You and I can look at a storm and be in awe, and it probably does not take much to put us in awe, but there will come a time, when even the power and voice of God will not have any impact on people, except in their destruction.

Even now, people look to false religions and not see their flaws.  How much more will it take to not see any form of truth?

Psalm 29:4

Copyright Ó 2014 J. Neely
Psalm 29:4

4 The voice [qowl] of the LORD [Yahovah] is powerful [koach]; the voice [qowl] of the LORD [Yahovah] is full of majesty [hadar].  KJV-Interlinear

4 The voice of the Lord is powerful, The voice of the Lord is majestic.  NASB

Recall that in our Revelation study, there is a reference to the seven thunders, Rev. 10:4, referring to a series of judgments that have been sealed up until the time when they are unleashed on humanity. And here we have seven references to the voice of God, which in turn have been described symbolically as thunder that can gain your attention as well as destroy all with which it comes into contact.

And even though those future seven thunders and their purpose have been sealed up, preventing us from knowing exactly what judgments they will be, we can easily conclude that since they come from God, and are of God, they will be the most powerful judgments ever unleashed onto planet earth.

In their doubling up in this verse, eludes to an advancing line of thunders, one right after another, the last being more close than the former, advancing closer and closer as a charging army advances along a wide front.

The thunder is powerful, and when God is behind the thunder, it is more than just sound or noise, it possesses inherent power of its own.

Power means might or strength.  The kind of power that can shatter trees or buildings, with the authority of the blast of its sound.

Majesty, refers to its awesomeness and overpowering volume and vastness. It has nothing to compare with, nothing that is like it.  It is unique as God is unique.  Its power is without limit, without containment, and against which there is no defense.

The flash of lightning and resulting thunder is virtually instant and can occur at any given moment without advanced warning.  By the time you hear it, it is too late.
