Psalm 35:16

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Psalm 35:16

16 With hypocritical [chaneph] mockers [la`eg] in feasts [ma`owg], they gnashed [charaq] upon me with their teeth [shen].   KJV-Interlinear

16 like profane mockers at a feast, they gnash at me with their teeth.   ESV

Profane mockers, refers to those who have no respect for God, for Christ, for truth, ad so they mock everything that is real, and boast about all that is not real.

In feasts, designates those types of people who make a scene at parties, drunks, slurring, loud, obnoxious, people who stammer or speak a foreign language. They boast of themselves or of their things.  Boasting always leads to the loss of that which you are boasting.

This is not a reference to foreign people, but describes the behavior of those who, when they reject truth and reason, take on the actions of obnoxious people.

Drunks, describes the confusion of the mind.  Foreign, describes that they are not a functional part of Gods family, by either being unbelievers or out of fellowship believers.

Gnashing of the teeth, describes the hateful and rowdy and mouthy attitude.

But this is not just the overt activity of people who mocked Jesus, it describes all people who reject or disregard doctrine.

They are nothing more than dysfunctional and profane mockers, fools that favor lies instead of truth.

Psalm 35:15

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Psalm 35:15

15 But in mine adversity [tsela`] they rejoiced [samach], and gathered themselves together ['acaph]: yea, the abjects [nekeh] gathered themselves together ['acaph] against me, and I knew [yada`] it not; they did tear [qara`] me, and ceased [damam] not:   KJV-Interlinear

15 But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered; they gathered together against me; wretches whom I did not know tore at me without ceasing;   ESV

As Jesus was tried and tortured and led through the streets, the crowd against Him grew and grew, and the mocking and spitting and torments likewise grew.  The crowd became a mob.

The word for abjects, means mockers, antagonists, revilers, and such.

For three-and-a-half years, Jesus performed miracles galore. He did things that no one had ever seen in all of human history.  He taught truth and healed without bias.

And yet, when the powers that be, made charges against Him, the crowds that had been following Him, the crowds that celebrated Him as the Messiah as He entered Jerusalem, now mocked and ridiculed and challenged Him to destroy the Romans.

People were not interested in truth, they were only interested in having a knight in shining armor coming to their rescue, and then of course, establishing Gods kingdom and giving them high offices within that kingdom.

The crowds were selfish, fickle, and stubbornly arrogant, and definitely lacked a knowledge of the scriptures.

Those who loved Him initially, now hated Him.  No one seemed to know why He came in the first place.  Even the apostles were confused, as they too, abandoned Him.

There was a complete breakdown in knowledge of doctrine, within that generation, just as there is a complete breakdown in knowledge of doctrine even in our current day.

And the reason is because people do not study, and therefore do not learn, and therefore do not know.

And this lack of knowledge, prevents orientation and understanding of life, and that means people are confused, and weak, and subject to instabilities, both mentally and emotionally.

Romans 3:19

Romans 3:19

19 Now [de] we know [eido] that [hoti] what things soever [hosos] the law [nomos] saith [lego], it saith [laleo] to them who are under [en] the law [nomos]: that [hina] every [pas] mouth [stoma] may be stopped [phrasso], and [kai] all [pas] the world [kosmos] may become [ginomai] guilty [hupodikos] before God [theos].   KJV-Interlinear

19  Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.   ESV

There is no shortage of opinions out in the world and most people are blinded by their own opinions.  They disregard scripture, refuse to listen, refuse to take instruction and refuse to learn. Thus they condemn themselves by means of their own stubbornness.

Here is the proof.

The Law, which is the reference to the Mosaic Law, states emphatically, that you have to be perfect as God is perfect.

The Law spells out what you must do in order to be perfect.

But the Law makes it very clear that no person is capable of keeping the Law.  Therefore, since you cannot live by the Law, then you must die by the Law.

And because no one can live by the Law, then another means of being saved is required.  That is of course Jesus Christ.

Every mouth must be stopped, and that simply means that all of the human opinions out there, are worthless air.

People argue endlessly, find excuses, disregard their obligations, blame others constantly, refuse to accept the responsibility of digging out truth, want someone else to do things for them.

And so, people by their own actions, prove that the Law is in fact correct in finding them guilty.

Romans 3:18

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Romans 3:18

18 There is [esti] no [ou] fear [phobos] of God [theos] before [apenanti] their [autos] eyes [ophthalmos].   KJV-Interlinear

18 “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”   ESV

There are a lot of people who do not respect God.  Disrespect begins with the arrogance of imposing your ideas over those of God, and ignoring or rejecting Gods requirements and expectations.

Fear, ‘phobos,’ means respect.

And that is the single biggest fault that people have in his world, which is no respect of God.

God created the universe, created life, established the divine plan for all of history, and has executed it without so much as a hiccup.  And of course we are referring to Jesus Christ, for whom all things were made, and who is the sovereign authority over all of creation and beyond.

And yet we as mere humanity, with all of our limitations, presume to ignore God, in favor of our own limited ideas.

We, as individuals, have been on this earth for just a few decades, while God has been around continuously forever.

We have invented nothing, while God has invented everything.

We have limited intellect, while God is omniscient.

We cannot see into the next hour, while God has foreknowledge of all of history and beyond into eternity.

God is objective and fair and just, and we are always looking for the shortcut or for the conveniences of life.  To our favor of course.

And while it would be wise to look to a documented and established authority, most people look right on past God and Christ and doctrine, and look to things that have no credibility from anywhere.

And so the obvious question is, ‘What is your excuse?’
