Isaiah 26:20

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 26:20

20 Come [yalak], my people [`am], enter [bow'] thou into thy chambers [cheder], and shut [cagar] thy doors [deleth] about thee: hide [chabah] thyself as it were for a little [m@`at] moment [rega`], until the indignation [za`am] be overpast [`abar].   KJV-Interlinear

20 Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until the fury has passed by.   ESV

Remember the context of this passage.  Isaiah is writing of the end times, but in his day, the end times were, and are, still future.

And when the end times arrive, then there will be a resurrection.

The chambers, is a reference to the private place of peace and calmness. This is the state of death for believers in the Savior, who we know as Jesus Christ.

Shut the doors, is a phrase to indicate that no one else will be allowed to interfere with your rest.  Thus death is private and there is no power or authority which will disrupt death.

For a little while, is a reference to a span of time, a short time if compared to eternity.  It is a blink of an eye, during which the dead will wait for their promised resurrection.

The indignation, is the status of death and the nature of death which is caused because of the angelic conflict, which is caused by Satan and all of his complaints against God.

So, because of Satan, humanity is forced to experience death, prior to life in eternity.  And this is humiliating, in that death brings the corruption of the body and all the foul things that accompany it, as well as the inconvenience of death, which postpones life in heaven and eternity while God plays out history due to Satan’s complaint and opposition.

So, the promise is, that death is only for a short time, and to the dead, it will seem very short.  Kind of like when you go to sleep at night and then suddenly it is morning.  That eight hours of sleep, seemed like but a moment.  And so it will be with death.

Our life will continue for all of eternity and that is a very long time.  The entire human history in this world is but a moment on that eternal timeline.

Isaiah 26:19

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 26:19

19 Thy dead [muwth] men shall live [chayah], together with my dead body [n@belah] shall they arise [quwm]. Awake [quwts] and sing [ranan], ye that dwell [shakan] in dust [`aphar]: for thy dew [tal] is as the dew [tal] of herbs ['owrah], and the earth ['erets] shall cast out [naphal] the dead [rapha'].   KJV-Interlinear

19 Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise. You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a dew of light, and the earth will give birth to the dead.   ESV

This is a resurrection passage in the Old Testament.  The words for dead and dead body, respectively, ‘muwth,’ and ‘nabelah,’ refer to dead things, carrion, decaying and putrid.

Live and arise, speak of life, to recover, to repair, to restore.

And so we have here the declaration of a resurrection, which will occur in the end times, and at the time when Christ returns in the Second Advent.  That principle is addressed in verse 21, which is still a couple of studies way.

But for now, the dew of the herbs, is symbolic, of the rising of herbs in the spring after a long winter where they have every attribute of appearing dead, dried up and useless.  But in the spring the dew, or moisture of the earth restores their life and they return again to the living.

Our dew, however, is not the dew of the earth but the dew of the Spirit, which is the dew not of water but of light.  And it is the Holy Spirit who will restore life, when that future time arrives.

The earth, which again holds the dead, will give them up, and will not be able to prevent their life from returning.

Now, on the one hand we have a Messiah who will come and secure salvation, and then return again to complete judgment and then establish the Kingdom of God on earth.

This return means that He has to leave in order to return.

The return, which we call the Second Advent, will be the time of the resurrection for Old Testament believers.

Remember that we as church age believers will have our resurrection at the Rapture, and we will return with Christ at the Second Advent.  The seven years of the Tribulation separates our resurrection, from the resurrection of the Old Testament believers.

Christ was the first resurrection, ours is the second resurrection, the Old Testament believers will be the third resurrection, and the millennial believers will be the fourth and final resurrection at the end of the Millennium.

These four resurrections are the first group.

There is a second group, which will be all unbelievers who will be raised up and brought before Christ at the Great White Throne at the end of the Millennium, and from there, all those condemned, will be thrown into the Lake of Fire, forever.

Then, this universe will be destroyed and a new universe will be created and then eternity will begin and continue forever.

When the resurrection occurs there will be great singing and celebration, needless to say.

Isaiah 26:18

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 26:18

18 We have been with child [harah], we have been in pain [chuwl], we have as it were [k@mow] brought forth [yalad] wind [ruwach]; we have not wrought [`asah] any deliverance [y@shuw`ah] in the earth ['erets]; neither [bal] have the inhabitants [yashab] of the world [tebel] fallen [naphal].   KJV-Interlinear

18 we were pregnant, we writhed, but we have given birth to wind. We have accomplished no deliverance in the earth, and the inhabitants of the world have not fallen.   ESV

Pregnancy is the fruit of the womb.  And though the Israelites, had custody of the scriptures, and with them, should have evangelized the world.  They did not.

Instead they delivered the works of the Levitical priesthood, which distorted the scriptures, and produces wind, or an emptiness, with no production, no substance, and certainly no offspring or future.

Works is empty and amounts of an empty womb, giving birth to nothing, despite all of the pain and anguish of that effort.  Man goes to great pains, to accomplish nothing.

And despite the troubles and turmoil that the Israelites went through, they never learned from their adversity.

And so it is today.  People do not learn. They have adversity, which is intended to teach humility and the need for God in ones life, but when the trouble ends, they go right back to their former ways, to repeat again and again, the ways of emptiness.

Scripture is intended to be taught and through teaching, learned, and through learning, understood, and through understanding, usage in ones daily life, and through usage and the repetition so all of these things, wisdom.

Wisdom, then develops into faith.

Faith is built on the substance of wisdom.  Faith is not luck or wishes.  Faith is not blind.  Faith is built upon the precepts of doctrine, doctrine learned and understood, and inculcated into the very essence of the soul.

The evils of man do not fall, because man has not replaced evil with truth, because man does not pursue truth, but rather pursues his indifference toward truth.

Psalm 35:14

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Psalm 35:14

14 I behaved [halak] myself as though he had been my friend [rea`] or brother ['ach]: I bowed down [shachach] heavily [qadar], as one that mourneth ['abel] for his mother ['em].   KJV-Interlinear

14 I went about as though I grieved for my friend or my brother; as one who laments his mother, I bowed down in mourning.   ESV

The speaker, who we already know as Jesus Christ, speaking through the written words of David, is under the heavy weight of grief and sorrow.

He treats those who are contemptuous against Him, as He would a close brother or family member or close relative, with courtesy, kindness and affection.

But His feelings run extremely deep, as one would behave when a mother is lost.

All around, people rejected Jesus.

All around, people ignored Jesus.

All around, people mocked and ridiculed Jesus.

That was true back then and it is true even today, even though people would argue against that notion.

But today, the world is indifferent.

Today people do not abide by the mandates of the Bible.

Today, people are more in-tuned with their own pleasures or their own self-wisdom or their own self-defined relationship with God, while ignoring the one and only way of achieving a true relationship with God.

Back then, people mocked openly and spit on Him.  Today people ignore His mandates, and ignore or redefine their responsibilities before God.

In this world we all have responsibilities to God, to self, to spouses, to family, to work or business, to society in general.  But, these responsibilities are ignored and deemed as unimportant.  So is it a shock when life falls all around you?  Is there no recognition of repercussions that will occur?  Does pretended ignorance or excuse justify ones behavior or attitude or beliefs?

And yet, Christ did all for us and more, and how is He repaid?
