Psalm 40:15

Copyright  2016 J. Neely
Psalm 40:15

15 Let them be desolate [shamem] for a reward [`eqeb] of their shame [bosheth] that say ['amar] unto me, Aha [heach], aha [heach].   KJV-Interlinear

15 Let those be appalled because of their shame who say to me, “Aha, Aha!” ESV

When the learning of Bible doctrine, is disregarded, then legitimate reward and legitimate prosperity becomes unavailable. Pursuing the spiritual life, by learning Bible doctrine, by means of a daily instruction, is the only way to have a fulfilled and meaningful life.

But we know, that there are many in this world who ignore Bible doctrine, and have some semblance of worldly success or prosperity or wealth. And they shun the idea that the only path to wealth and success is through learning Bible doctrine.

We also know, that there are many in this world who are not successful, and yet they are opinionated against the idea of obtaining success or prosperity or wealth by means of learning Bible doctrine.

And as such, they mock, aha, aha, as though to say, look at me, I don’t need God or Christ or doctrine, and I’m doing okay.

They ignore their responsibilities in life.
They ignore their obligations in life.
They ignore their God-given role in life.
And they truly believe that their decisions and beliefs are rights of their freedom, which they do not possess, because they refuse to see the shackles of the sin nature that saturates their life.

They ignore the ultimate end of their life, and what comes after that, even though they are fully aware that there is something, but they choose to ignore what that ultimate something destiny is.

And that is the life of a fool. To know the rules of life, and to intentionally ignore them, resulting in your own demise.

Psalm 40:14

Psalm 40:14

14 Let them be ashamed [buwsh] and confounded [chapher] together [yachad] that seek [baqash] after my soul [nephesh] to destroy [caphah] it; let them be driven [cuwg] backward ['achowr] and put to shame [kalam] that wish [chaphets] me evil [ra`].   KJV-Interlinear

14 Let those be put to shame and disappointed altogether who seek to snatch away my life; let those be turned back and brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt! ESV

There are two categories of people in creation. The first category is made up of those who refuse to believe in Christ, whom we call unbelievers. And the second category is made up of those who believe in Christ, whom we call believers, or Christians.

The category of believers, can be divided into three groups.

The first group is made up of those who have believed in Christ, but go no further in their spiritual life.
The second group is made up of those who have believed in Christ, and go forward somewhat in their spiritual life, but don’t really pursue it.
And the third group is made up of those who have believed in Christ, and this is the smallest group, because this group is hot for knowledge and they pursue the learning of Bible doctrine and advancement in their spiritual life to the ultimate goal of spiritual maturity.

The category of unbelievers, and the first two categories of believers, are similar in that they are indifferent toward learning truth. They imitate each other in that they pursue the things of this world.

People who lack truth, are typically petty, make insignificant things significant, are mostly into themselves and their own appearance or feelings or possessions or status in life, and are otherwise critical of others, while totally disregarding their own huge flaws.

Not pursuing spiritual life, means you pursue the lies of life. And pursuing the lies of life means pursuing a dishonorable life.

The blessings of life are reserved for those who advance to spiritual maturity. Those who do not advance to spiritual maturity, are in effect taking things from life that were not intended for them. They are in effect snatching something that belongs to mature believers.

This makes them thieves of sorts, who are living in the environment of a dishonored life.

And because they place themselves first, then in effect, they delight in the heartache of others.

Psalm 40:13

13 Be pleased [ratsah], O LORD [Yahovah], to deliver [natsal] me: O LORD [Yahovah], make haste [chuwsh] to help [`ezrah] me.   KJV-Interlinear

13 Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me! O LORD, make haste to help me! ESV

This is a prayer of Gods will. It is a simple prayer. And it is consistent with Gods plan for your life.

God is pleased, and is more than pleased because it is His intention to deliver, to rescue, to help, and to prosper you.

God is not a genie. But God does give you every opportunity to advance in your spiritual life, and as such, qualify for the phenomenal blessings that He has held in reserve for you, since eternity past.

God waits patiently for you to study, to learn, to advance in your spiritual life, so that He can give you things beyond imagination.

Psalm 40:12

Psalm 40:12

12 For innumerable [micpar] evils [ra`] have compassed ['aphaph] me about: mine iniquities [`avon] have taken hold [nasag] upon me, so that I am not able [yakol] to look up [ra'ah]; they are more [`atsam] than the hairs [sa`arah] of mine head [ro'sh]: therefore my heart [leb] faileth [`azab] me.   KJV-Interlinear

12 For evils have encompassed me beyond number; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head; my heart fails me. ESV

There are two environments in existence. The first is the environment of truth, and the second is the environment of lies.

When we are separated from God, we are surrounded by the second environment. It is impossible to see the first environment, truth, unless we have something helping us to see through the lies of the world, and see the environment of truth.

The Holy Spirit, acts as an intermediary, through the gospel, helping us see through the window into the realm of truth. Faith in Christ, which is our salvation, helps us step through the door into the environment of truth giving us the opportunity to live there.

Bible doctrine, when learned, helps us to acclimate and orient to the environment of truth, which we call our spiritual life.

Without God or Christ or doctrine, we are outnumbered and outflanked. For the world around us is saturated with disorientation, and distractions, and everything imaginable, designed to keep us from truth, which means keeping us from our spiritual life.

Without a functioning spiritual life there is only heartache and disenchantment and delusion. Our heart, our courage, our drives in life, will ultimately be shaken and destroyed.

When we were born into this world, we had but one destiny and goal. And that is to escape the shackles of this world, and gain for ourselves, access to the real reality, which is truth, so that we can live with God in heaven forever.

And the mechanism for that, is not the hustle and bustle of life, but is the disciplined pursuit of a daily Bible study.

Psalm 40:11

11  Withhold [kala'] not thou thy tender mercies [racham] from me, O LORD [Yahovah]: let thy lovingkindness [checed] and thy truth ['emeth] continually [tamiyd] preserve [natsar] me.   KJV-Interlinear

11 As for you, O LORD, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me! ESV

Gods tender mercies, which represent the actions He takes from His policy of grace, which is also his lovingkindness, are never withheld from those who pursue God and truth.

Truth is reality, and blessings flow to reality.

Those who reject truth, and therefore reject reality, likewise reject the blessings that flow through reality.

You cannot reject truth, and expect to benefit from truth.

Truth, which comes to us in the form of Bible doctrine, preserves our life.

Truth preserves, however to possess that protection, you have to know and therefore possess truth.

And there is only one way to know truth, and that way is by means of learning Bible doctrine through instruction in a daily Bible study.

Psalm 40:10

Psalm 40:10

10 I have not hid [kacah] thy righteousness [tsadaqah] within [tavek] my heart [leb]; I have declared ['amar] thy faithfulness ['emuwnah] and thy salvation [tashuw`ah]: I have not concealed [kachad] thy lovingkindness [checed] and thy truth ['emeth] from the great [rab] congregation [qahal].   KJV-Interlinear

10 I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation. ESV

David is writing the words, but the words and thinking are those of Christ. One member of the Trinity, the Son, is speaking to another member of the Trinity, the Father.

The idea behind the words for righteousness, and faithfulness, and salvation, and lovingkindness, convey the entire concept and design and plan of God from truth, which is revealed to us within the content of Bible doctrine.

Righteousness is truth. Faithfulness is our reliance on God to never change. Salvation is God’s plan. Lovingkindness represents Gods grace.

The great congregation, is all of creation, and all of created life, throughout all of history.

Truth and God’s plan, have always been revealed.

God has never tucked them away within His own mind, and has never hidden truth from any of creation.

The angels knew the content of truth, as it applied to them, and humanity has known the content of truth and God’s plan, as it applies to us.

Truth is public and never hidden, while the dark side, or the lies against truth, are always kept hidden, and seek to deceive and destroy out of the darkness that they exist in.

Psalm 40:9

Psalm 40:9

9 I have preached [basar] righteousness [tsedeq] in the great [rab] congregation [qahal]: lo, I have not refrained [kala'] my lips [saphah], O LORD [Yahovah], thou knowest [yada`].   KJV-Interlinear

9 I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O LORD. ESV

The great congregation, refers to a vast audience beyond counting. Only God has addressed vast audiences that fit this description. And more specifically, Jesus Christ is the one who addresses audiences.

In the beginning, when angels were first created, the Lord addressed the entire realm of angels.

When the universe was created, this also was done in the presence of all the angels that had already been created.

The fall of Satan, and the angels who fell with him, and the trial that preceded thereafter, it was the Lord who addressed the great congregation of angels.

At the rapture which is our resurrection, it will be the Lord who will address the vast congregation of believers, who will be caught up in that instant.

At the second advent, at the end of the millennium, at the beginning of the new universe, at each of the respective Judgment Seat of Christ, following each resurrection, and also at the Great White Throne, wherein unbelievers will be sentenced to the Lake of Fire, all of these audiences will be addressed by Christ.

Truth and righteousness and justice will always be proclaimed. The Lord will not suppress His own words, or compromise or restrain the word of truth, at any time or at any instance, in all of history.

Truth is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and will never change.

Gods plan is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and will never change.

Psalm 40:8

Psalm 40:8

8 I delight [chaphets] to do [`asah] thy will [ratsown], O my God ['elohiym]: yea, thy law [towrah] is within [tavek] my heart [me`ah].   KJV-Interlinear

8 I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” ESV

All three members of the Godhead, Father, Son, Holy Spirit, follow the same divine plan. Unlike the pretend gods of Greek mythology, who are always in conflict with each other, the God of Christianity, follows one unifying and unchangeable plan.

There is only one truth, and not multiple versions of truth.
There is only one divine plan, and not multiple versions of the divine plan.
There is only one spiritual life, and not multiple versions of the spiritual life.

And while there are three individual members of the Godhead, they all possess the same essence, or attributes, wherein we refer to them as one God.

The Bible is the mind of Christ. The Bible is the mind of God. And in this verse, David speaks the words that portray the attitude of Christ toward the Father and the Spirit.

The word for God, in this verse, is in the plural, referring to all members of the Godhead.

The phrase, within my heart, teaches us that belief should come from within ourselves, and not be some superficial or external pretense, for appearances sake.

Psalm 40:7

Psalm 40:7

7 Then said ['amar] I, Lo, I come [bow']: in the volume [magillah] of the book [cepher] it is written [kathab] of me,   KJV-Interlinear

7 Then I said, “Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me: ESV

This statement, is that of Christ. Behold I have come. The content of the word of God has but one principle subject, which is Jesus Christ.

And when He entered into this world, that was the only time in all of human history, and in fact in all of history, that this statement could have been made.

The rituals of the Old Testament, were repeated day in and day out, for thousands of years.

And, not a single one of those rituals, provided salvation, or the spiritual life, for anyone.

It is not the rituals that save, nor the rituals that advance growth.

It is the principle behind those rituals, which teaches salvation, and which teaches the method and means of growth.

Jesus Christ is the subject of the entire Bible. The principle subject is that of salvation, and the need for salvation, and the person who provides salvation, namely Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the content of the Bible. Therefore, learning the Bible, is learning Christ. And when Bible doctrine becomes resident in your soul through that learning process, then you are in fact bringing the principles of Christ into your soul, namely Christ in you.

The subject of the Bible is Jesus Christ.

There is no other person, no other religion, no other philosophy, presented in the Bible.

The Bible is self-contained, and is not a part of, or an introduction to, any other religious venue.

Psalm 40:6

Psalm 40:6

6 Sacrifice [zebach] and offering [minchah] thou didst not desire [chaphets]; mine ears ['ozen] hast thou opened [karah]: burnt offering [`olah] and sin offering [chata'ah] hast thou not required [sha'al].   KJV-Interlinear

6 In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering you have not required. ESV

Just as the candlelight of night has no further use when the bright sunshine of day is risen, so too, the sacrifices and offerings of the Mosaic law had no further use after Christ had fulfilled their purpose, on the cross.

However, God wanted something more than the ritual fulfillment of sacrifices and offerings. For these things taught principles of doctrine and truth, regarding the work of Christ, and the work of the spiritual life.

Methodically stepping through a ritual, without learning the principle that it teaches, is a total waste of time. Unfortunately, the Jewish people had become habitual ritual keepers, without learning the spiritual principles that were being taught.

Likewise, too many Christians, step through life without learning Bible doctrine, and that too is a total waste of ones life.

Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings, refer to four cornerstones of the spiritual life.

Beginning with the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, and believing, through faith, for salvation, and then following that with confession and living within the framework of the spiritual life, while learning and growing up, and fulfilling ones purpose within the spiritual life, these rituals demonstrate the total picture of a relationship with God through Christ, and a functional spiritual life through doctrine.

God did not desire ritual only. What God desires is that each of us learn and grow, and thereby fulfilling our spiritual destiny, in our relationship with Him.

To live in this world, and reject Christ, by rejecting faith, is the worst of all possible scenarios.

To live in this world as a believer in Christ, while rejecting the learning of Bible doctrine, is the worst of all spiritual scenarios.

To be saved and learn nothing, is a wasted life.

Therefore, the objective of the individual, after having been saved through faith, is to learn Bible doctrine by means of a daily study through instruction, and advance in ones spiritual life to spiritual maturity.  Thus, fulfilling ones own personal meaning and purpose and destiny for life.

Psalm 40:5

Copyright  2016 J. Neely
Psalm 40:5

5 Many [rab], O LORD [Yahovah] my God ['elohiym], are thy wonderful [pala'] works which thou hast done [`asah], and thy thoughts [machashabah] which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order [`arak] unto thee: if I would declare [nagad] and speak [dabar] of them, they are more [`atsam] than can be numbered [caphar].   KJV-Interlinear

5 You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told. ESV

Multiplied, means beyond numbering. Wonderful, refers to an experience beyond imagination.

Gods thoughts are directed toward us. We have access to Gods thoughts by means of the written Scriptures.

Gods plans, purposes, arrangements, are all designed for our welfare, for our benefit, for our destiny.

Before time began, in eternity past, God conceived of each and every one of us. Therefore, we are linked from the very beginning, from before time, to the most phenomenal life and destiny, that is beyond human comprehension.

The blessings are beyond counting. However, our access to blessings comes to each one of us, in the simplest of forms, namely by means of Bible doctrine.

Despite all of the many plans, and abilities, and efforts of human life, no effort on our part can come anywhere near matching what God has done with mere words that are written in the Bible.

By learning Bible doctrine through instruction, and learning it on a daily basis, because it is the food of our soul, we gain access to the most sophisticated plan, in all of existence, which is Gods plan.

Unfortunately, too many never figure this out, because they are so caught up in their own belief systems, and in arrogance, that puts up a barrier, that prevents them from seeing the simplest means of success.

No one and nothing can compare with Gods plan, and Gods design.

Gods plan and blessings are so thorough, and so innumerable, and so vast, that even if we studied the Bible in detail from cover to cover, several times, we would still barely scratch the surface of that vast treasure.

And so the most important thing that we can do in life, is to commit ourselves to a study of the word of God on a daily basis, for our entire life, and by that, gain access to a plan that is infinitely better than anything that we could do for ourselves.

To ignore such an opportunity, would be the act of a fool.
