Psalm 13:6

Copyright Ó 2011 J. Neely
Psalm 13:6

6 I will sing [shiyr] unto the LORD, [Yahovah] because he hath dealt bountifully [gamal] with me. KJV-Interlinear

6 I will sing to the Lord, Because He has dealt bountifully with me. NASB

To sing, is a reference to the strolling minstrel.  You are just walking along in your life or in your own thoughts, singing from within your own soul.

This is a happy attitude, a comforting mental attitude, a feeling of confidence, inner peace and … well … happiness.

Bountifully, ‘gamal,’ is a reference to the perfect ripeness of a harvest of unlimited abundance.

This is not limited to just tangible things in life, like money or things or possessions. But it refers to the vastness of everything related to your life, the most significant of which is your spiritual status.

If you commit yourself to a daily bible study, that does not mean that life will be all rose petals, but in fact you will face turmoil and trouble just like everyone else, some problems more frightening than others.

But you will develop through your daily study, an inner resource of spiritual muscle and power that is like no other.  You will learn to deal with life.   You will learn to be properly oriented to life, to people, to our self, and especially to God.

You will develop an inner relaxed mental attitude, an inner peace, an inner poise that will help you deal with everything that comes along in your life, be they good things or bad.

The best part probably is when you realize all of the phenomenal blessings that God has provided for you (usually in hind sight), that have contributed to the maintenance of your life.  Things that you generally have taken for granted or have not realized just how much you have been blessed at the time.

And when you finally realize just how helpless and worthless and insignificant you are on this planet earth, a speck of dust on a planet that is insignificant in a vast universe, and that through all of this, God has made available to you an inheritance, a future, a meaning and purpose, that are valuable beyond calculation, then you only begin to realize the magnitude of life and all that exists around you, and how lucky and blessed you really are.

And that is only a scratch on the tip of the tip of the tip of the iceberg the size of this universe and beyond.

Then perhaps within your heart and soul, the music will begin to swell up.

Psalm 13:5

Copyright Ó 2011 J. Neely
Psalm 13:5

5 But I have trusted [batach] in thy mercy; [checed] my heart [leb] shall rejoice [giyl] in thy salvation. [yashuw`ah] KJV-Interlinear

5 But I have trusted in Thy lovingkindness; My heart shall rejoice in Thy salvation. NASB

Risking not having God in ones life.  Risking turning to the world and its flawed beliefs.  Risking being beaten by the enticements of the world and all who promote its tainted views.

Then but, gives us a contrast between that which comes from God, versus that which comes from the world.

Trust, means several things, ‘batach,’ among them it means hope, but not hope based on luck or chance, but hope based on the certainty of knowledge and confidence derived therefrom.

Look around you and you can see all of the world. You can see, hold, and hear this world.  You can measure and compare and look over your shoulder.  You can see where you have come from and where you are going.

But can you?  Is what you experience in this world really the truth of life?  And the answer to that is, no.

Because there is a life after this world and anything and everything in this world will not be a part of that future life, which by the way, will last forever.  Your life now will last you but a few decades at best.  The next life will last you billions and trillions of years and more.

You can see and hold things now in this world, but they do not solve problems nor prepare you for your real life coming up.

In contrast, you cannot see or touch or detect in any way, shape or form, anything from the spiritual side of life.

That, is connected to us by faith and faith alone.  And yet in that life there is complete security, and prosperity, and much, much more than this life will ever offer or provide.

And yet far too many folks ignore that which they cannot detect, and choose that which they can see and hold.  And the former provides everything, while the latter provides nothing, when you come right down to it.

They say that Gaddafi had hidden away over 200 billions of dollars. And now where is he?  What good is that money to him now?   Recently another billionaire died and what good is his money to him now?  And that answer is, it does him no good at all now.

One is probably looking for his virgins in Torments, while waiting for the Lake of Fire.  The other is probably in heaven, but we do not know for sure on either man.  In either case, I am sure that both are beyond surprised at their present circumstances. The latter is much happier than the former, of course.  But in both cases, their billions do them no good now.

Anyway, anyone who trusts in their possessions, from this world, be they little or vast, then their priorities are wrong and they will lose out in eternity.

Therefore, trust by means of knowledge and certainty, in the things of the spiritual side of life, even though you cannot see them.

And why?

Salvation, ‘yashuwah,’ does not refer to being saved for the next life, but is a reference to the continued deliverance from the problems of this world.  It refers to aid, deliverance, health, help. It is in the feminine and refers to something saved by another.  The feminine refers to the helpless state or situation of the individual, thus requiring the aid of someone else, namely God.

And so, the world is the tyrant.  And we are its helpless victims.  We can conform to the world and lose, or we can trust in that which we cannot see, and win.

Psalm 13:4

Copyright Ó 2011 J. Neely
Psalm 13:4

4 Lest mine enemy ['oyeb] say, ['amar] I have prevailed [yakol] against him; and those that trouble [tsar] me rejoice [giyl] when I am moved. [mowt] KJV-Interlinear

4 Lest my enemy say, "I have overcome him," Lest my adversaries rejoice when I am shaken. NASB

In this universe there are only two opinions.  The first is Gods opinion which is truth and proclaimed by the scriptures.

Then the second opinion encompasses everything else.

The second opinion originates from Satan and is perpetuated by everyone who ignores a legitimate relationship with God, through Christ.

And though you and everyone else, want to believe that you are your own person.  You are not.  You are guided only by that which already exists.  You are either guided by Bible doctrine, or you are guided by everything that is not supported by Bible doctrine.

And in so doing, you are guided and influenced by either truth or lies.  There is no third option.

Knowledge of truth comes only from a daily study of the scriptures.  You cannot know what you do not learn. And you have to study in order to learn.

Anyone who pursues truth is in effect the friend of God.  Anyone who rejects truth is an enemy of God.

Truth includes a vast array of knowledge, including the existence of God, the Trinity, the plan of God and salvation through faith in Christ and so forth.  But it also includes the vast architecture of this universe which we discover through the many sciences.  It includes the fundamental principles of economics, authority, nationalism, volition, freedom and liberty, the laws of divine establishment, marriage, and many, many other subjects.

Truth excludes philosophies, cults, religious beliefs, the many theories regarding history and evolution, the dignity of man, the efforts of man to control his own destiny (apart from God), lies, and so forth. All opposition to truth includes an equal and opposite principle of lies.  And that makes up the entire realm of evil.  Its function is wickedness.

And in these cases the many opinions of this world are in fact enemies of truth and therefore enemies of God, and furthermore, if you pursue truth in your life, then they are your enemy as well.  The enemies of truth attempt to remove truth and replace it with their own versions of life, either by removing God from the picture or by manipulating God into beliefs of convenience.

In any case, if you pursue truth, which means that you pursue your daily studies in doctrine, then you are in effect carving out your own completion and future, by means of Gods strength and support.

If, on the other hand, you are floating through life in your emotional views, or more or less rejecting or ignoring a Bible study by any definition, then you are giving yourself over to that which is the enemy of truth. You are allowing your life to be directed by lies and therefore are allowing yourself to be guided by someone else, namely the opinions of this world.

The origin of world opinion, is Satan. His objective is the defeat of God.  That means that truth must be defeated and that means that lies must win out over truth.

If you give yourself over to the lies of life, then you are in effect defeating yourself, or allowing someone who wants to see your demise, to control you.

And when that happens, you lose, and evil celebrates not only in your failure, but cheers and laughs at your stupidity.

Evil is Satan’s trump card.  It is all designed to confuse and make life ambiguous.  It is designed to make seemingly innocent things reasonable and therefore acceptable, which fools by far, the masses of humanity around the world.

You have but one defense against your own foolishness, but one defense against the wiles and tricks and guises of evil.  And that single defense is knowledge of Bible doctrine, which identifies and makes clear all aspects of evil by making all truth clear and perspicuous.

Without a daily study, you cannot learn of your mistakes.  Without a daily study, you will not know just how fooled you really are.  Without a daily study of Bible doctrine, your destiny is exactly what evil wants, total failure and loss for all of eternity.

And instead of you laughing at life due to your superior opinions, that you think you have, life will laugh at you for being so easily fooled, by letting the world entice and convince you by means of your own sin nature, as you walk away, by your choice, from truth.

Psalm 13:3

Copyright Ó 2011 J. Neely
Psalm 13:3

3 Consider [nabat] and hear [`anah] me, O LORD [Yahovah] my God: ['elohiym] lighten ['owr] mine eyes, [`ayin] lest I sleep [yashen] the sleep of death; [maveth] KJV-Interlinear

3 Consider and answer me, O Lord, my God; Enlighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, NASB

The writer pleads with God to not look away, but to provide enlightenment so that the darkness that we associate with death, will not overtake his life.

Consider and hear, is the plea.  The individual from the last verse has been taking counsel in his own soul, from a position of his own wisdom.

Wisdom of this world is deficient with regard to reality, and tends to segregate ones self from reality and the proper orientation to life.

When you look to life, without doctrine, then you will miss out on nearly all of that which is necessary to live a proper life.

To enlighten ones eyes, means to provide truth, knowledge, understanding, such that the individual can see clearly and then understand exactly what is happening in his life and in the world around him.

Without truth, there is only delusion, the delusion of lies. And lies are exactly like living in total darkness.

And that is what is meant by sleeping the sleep of death.  But note that only the eyes are doing the sleeping, not the entire body.  Thus when you lack truth in your soul, then you are no better off than a dead thing.

If you have ever seen a dead thing, then you know that it does not think, does not move, does not do anything.  Its eyes are ineffective, seeing nothing, it hears nothing, it knows nothing, it does nothing.  It is in a sphere of darkness and has no access to life.

And that is exactly what you have when you pursue life without doctrine.  And not knowing it, but you are going nowhere, fast, and getting nowhere, never. And you don’t even know it.

If you have been following along in the 2 Timothy study, then you know that doctrine is the ticket and source of life.  It is the light with which you can see life.  It is the means with which you can discern between the lies of the world and the truth of reality. It is the enlightenment that only God provides, through doctrine, which is the written scripture, which is your only means of understanding and wisdom, such that you do not lose your life and your destiny.

Ignore your daily Bible study, and you throw away your life.  That leaves you only the nothingness of darkness, which is really nothing at all.
