8 The wicked strut about on every side, When vileness is exalted among the sons of men. NASB

The word for vile, ‘zulluwth,’ means to shake out, to tremble, tempest, to loose morally, glutton, scatter, treat lightly.

This comes to means one who considers lightly, anything of value, and shakes out of their life everything that is worthless, to cast out, to produce and spread that which is worthless.  In the maximum sense, it means trembling terror. 

When nothing good exists in the life, then only bad, and that means the darkest of the dark only, remains.  And extreme darkness, that which is without light or truth, is evil to the maximum.  And that means suffering and pain and trouble to the maximum for everyone.

Therefore, when society has dropped so low that only that which is without truth is exalted, then trouble is not only on the horizon, but trouble is in a position to saturate all of life.  And that is bad for everyone.

To exhalt, ‘ruwm,’ means to lift up, to make priority, to accept excluding all else.

Thus when truth is rejected, then evil reigns.

When evil reigns then trouble and suffering and difficulties of all sorts reign.

This was true back in David’s day, it is true in our day, and it will be brought to the maximum of evil when the Tribulation occurs when evil becomes unrestrained.

Today we have some semblance of restraint, courtesy of Gods grace.  But as humanity continues to reject God through each succeeding generation, then one day, God will allow humanity to have its way. He will remove all believers, remove all restraint, and let humanity have its way, and that will occur in the Tribulation.  And as a result, things will be so bad, that humanity will come very, very close to making itself extinct, literally.

7 Thou, O Lord, wilt keep them; Thou wilt preserve him from this generation forever. NASB

David lived in a time when evil was running rampant.  There was far too much evil in the world, and far too many victims of that evil.

However, this generation, not only speaks of the generation that was contemporary with David, but it also applies to any generation that is current during its time in history.

Therefore, every generation will have to deal with evil, will have evil running rampant, and there will always be victims in the world.

As it is said, the poor will always be with you.  That simply means that humanity will never find a solution for poverty, will never find a solution for evil, and thus will never find a solution for its flaws.

Humanity will never solve sin, and will never solve death.  Those are the two key ingredients that separate man from the destiny that he pursues on his own (whatever that destiny happens to be).

God, on the other hand, is well able to separate man from sin and man from death, and not only that, but God is well able to keep man safe and secure, forever, regardless of the opposition that exists in the world.

With all of the many proofs that exist in this world, thoroughly demonstrating that humanity lacks the ability to deal with his own problems, that humanity is unable to solve even the basics of his problems, one would think that  people would be more open to truth.

Unfortunately, that openness ends up in pursuits of more lies, more philosophies, more religious zeal, and most folks keep overlooking the obvious, which is the Bible, Christ and the legitimate spiritual life.

None of you had anything to say about your life before you were born, let alone anything to say, period.

None of you are acquainted with anyone who lived over a century ago, and man has been on this earth for well over 6000 years.  Where did all of those 120 generations over the last several millennia, go?  They are dead and gone.  None of them have seen our generation.  None of them have seen out technology.  None of them were helped by anything that originated in this world.

And now here you are, another person in a rather huge generation numbering over seven billion people in this world.  And what do we have that is better?  A faster way to travel and a faster way to compute, a faster way to communicate, and a faster way to cook.  And what do we have that has solved sin or death?  Nothing.

People are born everyday.  People die everyday.  And people hustle everyday.  And sitting before all of us, is the future, our life after our death.  And who takes note of that?

The world cannot help you.  The world cannot promote you.  The world cannot prosper you.

But Christ, can do all of this and far, far more.  But who will take even a glimpse of that opportunity that is available to all?

6 The words of the Lord are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times. NASB

In contrast to the words of the previous verses or the words of the wicked or the words of the naïve, are the words of God.

The words of the wicked, of the carnal, are unreliable, vanity, empty, unfounded, false, flattery, lies.

The words of God are pure, meaning untainted, having no mixture, containing no falsehoods, no boasting, completely reliable, truthful, unbounded by time, timeless, immutable.

The words of the world cannot bear up under the most simple and objective scrutiny.

The words of God, are able to hold up under the most extreme examinations.

The number seven typically infers a complete process, where all that can be done has been done and anything further will not produce any better results.

The blast furnace is the extreme method of purging out all of the impurities of an ore, like silver or gold.  To expose silver, for example, to the purification process even once, rids it of nearly all impurities.  To process the ore a second and third time, removes all impurities leaving nothing left to be removed.  To process it a fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh time, is tremendous redundancy and gains nothing but insurance beyond the slightest doubt that the ore is absolutely pure.

The number seven refers to a completed task, leaving nothing further to do.  The number seven when combined with the furnace of earth, is an expression that the world, tries and tries, over and over, to discredit Gods word, and even under the most extreme tests, under the most extreme pressures, under the most extreme attempts imaginable, the world, cosmos, Satan, man, and so forth, cannot break, crack, change, discredit, modify, or better, that which comes from God.

Thus, we have two opinions in this universe.  That of the world, and that of God. 

Gods opinion is presented in the scriptures. 

The worlds opinions are presented in all manner of religions, philosophy, beliefs, ideas, and so forth.  Even the plurality of the worlds opinions do not help its cause.  More ideas do not make a thing better.  Especially when the ideas or opinions are all based on the same foundation, namely anything lacking truth.

The worlds opinions fail at every examination.

Gods word, stands up under the most extensive of examinations.

5 For the oppression [shod] of the poor, [`aniy] for the sighing ['anaqah] of the needy, ['ebyown] now will I arise, [quwm] saith ['amar] the LORD; [Yahovah] I will set [shiyth] him in safety [yesha`] from him that puffeth [puwach] at him. KJV-Interlinear

5 "Because of the devastation of the afflicted, because of the groaning of the needy, Now I will arise," says the Lord; "I will set him in the safety for which he longs." NASB

Devastation, means oppression, destruction, robbery, spoil.

Sighing, means crying out, groaning, to cry.

The poor and the needy, are references to those who are victims, the humbled, those taken advantage of, the destitute.

And what causes the devastation?  What causes the groaning? It is the cessation of the faithful, the vanity or emptiness of speech caused by the emptiness of souls, the lips that are proud, the tongues that waggle for no point.

These then are terms that describe the affects that come from a policy of evil, and the actions of wickedness, which come from the source of arrogance.

These then are the results of indifference, apathy, defiance toward truth.

Whether the pattern follows extreme violence, or whether the pattern follows so called victimless acts, makes no difference. All rejection of truth results in suffering and harm to everyone.  The victims include anyone and everyone who lives in this world, among evil.

Evil produces stress, burdens, difficulties, and all of these things in turn create anxieties, and worries and pain and suffering.  And in this world, there is no shortage of suffering in its many forms, because there is no shortage of indifference toward truth.

People are their own worst enemies.  Negative people, those negative toward truth, especially those who invent their own truth, are the cause of all suffering, either directly or indirectly.

Where there was once a Garden of Eden in a perfect world, there now exists deserts.  Where there was once oceans teeming with fish and fields abundant with animal life, there is now extinction of species.  And strangely enough it is not the internal combustion engine that is the cause, nor even technology, but it is sin and a negative attitude toward Christ and doctrine that have made the perfections that existed millennia ago, into the suffering and trouble of history and today.

From him that puffeth, is not a reference to the one longing for a solution, but from the one who is arrogant and longs for the things that cannot be obtained by means of evil, but he longs just the same.

Evil ignores the source of blessings and tries to gain it, itself, by means of evil, and fails.  Thus suffering comes into existence because truth is rejected and replaced with inferior beliefs.

And because evil exists, and because it causes tremendous burdens in life, then God will come to the aid of those who call on Him for relief.

God does this through His plan.  Through His plan for salvation.  Through His plan for spiritual growth.

But God does not accomplish this relief immediately for everyone in history, but waits patiently as history and the generations unfold, such that every person who will believe, such that every person who will pursue their spiritual life, throughout history, even to the last generation, will have that opportunity.

And no matter what each persons situation is in life, no matter when or where they live in this world or in history, every person has a chance to be saved, and to grow up in their spiritual life to maturity, because God is certain, God is sovereign, because God is capable, because Gods essence gives us all the assurance and security necessary to accomplish His plan overall, and specifically for each one of us.
