18 To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, That man who is of the earth may cause terror no more. NASB

The orphan and the fatherless refer to those who are helpless in this world.  That is everyone who is a believer in Christ due to the world cutting them off, simply because they are believers and positive toward Christ, doctrine and truth.

Anyone who rejects the world is rejected.  By believing in Christ, you leave this life, that is the sin nature, behind.

The oppressed refers to the crushed, the downtrodden.  The world is by default, set against those who reject it and pursue God in the correct form.

The man of the earth, is a reference to all of humanity.  From dust we come, and to dust we return.  The biological man has no origin that will make him greater than that which he came from.

Man is no better than his weakest component.  Man is dust (biological) and will never be any better than that. Man cannot rise above the level of dust.  Man can never gain eternal life or everlasting life, or anything similar to that, on his own.  No robotics, no higher plane, nothing artificial or esoteric.

There is only one source for help, and that is the Lord Himself.

All of humanity is fragile, and none of humanity is capable of helping or solving the problems of humanity.  Those problems being sin and death.  Man is born of dust (biological) and man is trapped in that pattern.  Man will never be anything other than dust (resurrection body) unless he believes in Christ and in effect sets himself apart from the pattern of this world.

And in so doing (faith in Christ), then man will no longer be subject to, or threatened with, the terrors of this life (suffering in all manner) nor even the next life (Lake of Fire).

Without God, then in this life we have only dust to look to for our destiny.  Without God, then in the next life we have only the Lake of Fire to look to for a destiny.

Without God, there is nothing better than what you already have, and it will only get worse.

With God, with Christ, there is everything far, far, far better, regardless of your circumstances. 

That choice between two possible destinies, the only two destinies that are possible, cannot be any more clearer.

Christ, who is God, is the only outlet to safety and things better, for anyone and everyone. 

It is far easier to believe in Christ, than it is to perpetually reject Him, for ones entire life. 

To believe is a mere thought that lasts but a second. 

To reject, requires phenomenal effort (phenomenal stubbornness) in that rejection of a single thought, over the entire course of ones entire life.

Psalm 10:17

17 O Lord, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble; Thou wilt strengthen their heart, Thou wilt incline Thine ear NASB

The Lord hears the prayers of the believer in fellowship.  The pattern of prayer is that all prayer is directed to the Father.  All prayer is acted upon by Christ, who is the Lord.

Through a prepared heart then, all prayer gets attention from God, because it is submitted in the proper form.

The Father authored the divine plan.  The Son executes the divine plan.  The Spirit sustains and reveals the divine plan.

All three members of the Godhead function in unison in the divine plan, and thus all know all things regarding the divine plan, history, your thoughts and activities and so forth.

The humble is the unassuming mature believer.

The strengthening of the heart, is the function of doctrine throughout the soul.  The heart represents the pump of the soul that circulates doctrine throughout the soul.

The desire of the humble, is based on the content of the soul, the content of their thoughts, which are or should be, in line with truth.

All requests to God must be in truth, must not be related to sin or selfish desires, must be compatible with the divine plan.

All prayers of this nature are in accordance with Gods will, and thus since the soul of the believer functions correctly, since the thoughts of the believer are proper thoughts, then God will listen and hear those requests and answer them accordingly.

All prayer must be compatible and in sync with the overall plan for humanity, for history, and for each individual as you fit into that overall plan.

God will not go outside of His plan for requests that are not compatible with His essence, for selfish requests, or requests that deviate from His overall plan.

Psalm 10:16

16 The Lord is King forever and ever; Nations have perished from His land. NASB

The Lord is the personal name for the second person of the Trinity, who received the title Son of God, as we learned when we first began the study of the Psalms.  He is the God/man, the unique person of the universe, the Savior, who we have come to know as Jesus Christ.

He has lived since eternity past, is God, is co-equal, co-infinite, and co-eternal with the other two members of the Godhead.

He came to us in the form of humanity as a descendant of David, for the sole purpose of paying the price demanded by salvation, and as such fulfilled all of the demands of righteousness and justice, and became the legitimate heir to the throne of both God and man, and is thus the legitimate King of all kings and over all things.

Jesus Christ is the legitimate sovereign over all of heaven and creation, and will remain as such forever.

The psalm makes this statement as though it is already accomplished and in effect lends credibility to the absolute certainty of Christ’s right to authority and sovereignty, when He will formally take possession of it at the end of history.

Heathen is a word that describes all enemies of God.

Heathen is a word that describes all who lack truth, who subscribe to things other than truth.  The heathen includes all naïve peoples, all sub-cultures (generally speaking), all people who reject Christ, doctrine and truth, regardless of their culture, race, color, intellect, etc.

The heathen is the true infidel, in that they reject truth, Christ, doctrine, and so forth.  Some religions use the term infidel, but the Bible uses the term, heathen.  They are essentially one and the same term.

An enemy of God includes all unbelievers (those who reject Christ), as well as all believers in Christ who reject or disregard their obligations in the study and application of doctrine.  It certainly includes all believers who are regularly out of fellowship.  A believer who lives their life out of fellowship is nothing more than an imitator of an unbeliever as far as the content of their soul or pattern of life is concerned.

In which case, all who live by other than truth, will fail. They will perish, and better stated, their pattern of thought, their pattern of life, their life styles will all cease to exist. 

And certainly they will cease at the end of each persons respective life, but they will permanently cease universally at the end of history.

Psalm 10:15

15 Break [shabar] thou the arm [zarowa`] of the wicked [rasha`] and the evil [ra`] man: seek out [darash] his wickedness [resha`] till thou find [matsa'] none. [bal] KJV-Interlinear

15 Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer, Seek out his wickedness until Thou dost find none. NASB

The prayer of life is one in which God is requested to punish and wipe out all evil and wickedness.

Just as the hands are symbolic of doing things, the legs or feet are symbolic of ones course or path or pattern of life, and so the arm is the symbol of effort or strength in accomplishing a purpose.

To break the arm then renders the effort helpless and impotent, thus terminating its purpose.

The purpose of the wicked is nothing good.  All evil is destined to destroy everything.  And therefore to end its effort, means an end to its destruction of life, making things better for all.

This prayer also requests God to seek out all aspects of wickedness.  All sin, all evil, is sought after, rounded up, and punished.  God leaves nothing unpunished, even the most insignificant sin or evil.

In so requesting this prayer, it is made clear that no one gets away with anything. It is Gods policy to answer this prayer and execute His judgment against all evil.  This leaves no place to hide, no place for secrets, no place left unturned for wicked activities to slip by.

God accounts for every little scrap of evil, be it sin, criminal activity, self righteous activity, lascivious activity, human good, etc.

It is not yours to worry that someone else might get away with something.  But it is your responsibility to concern yourself with your own habits and patterns of life, such that you do not get caught up in Gods discipline, for your own thoughts or actions.

Concern yourself with yourself, and set your priorities on your own spiritual life, and in so doing you will not be held in judgment for your judging of others either socially, by gossip, or opinion and so forth.  Legal due process for judging others, is a separate topic and not viewed here.

The Bible sets forth social standards for all manner of behavior, and it is not your duty to set public standards for public behavior.

Psalm 10:14

14 Thou hast seen it, for Thou hast beheld mischief and vexation to take it into Thy hand. The unfortunate commits himself to Thee; Thou hast been the helper of the orphan.  NASB

Contrary to the belief of those who are indifferent or who disregard God, and believe that God has not seen their activity in this world, God has in fact seem all that is, and was, and will be.

God has known since eternity past, all that will ever be, including all that will occur in the eternal future.

The thoughts and actions of humanity in human history in this world, is but a very small part of all foreknowledge.

God has seen the mischief, the misbehavior, the trouble, disobedience, the harm that has been caused by spiritually dysfunctional people.  For in fact all harm and trouble in this world would never have occurred were it not for those who reject truth.

God has seen all of the spite, the attitude of disregard, anger, malice, revenge, that people have for one another.

And one day, with certainty, God will take care of all of the evil that has and does exist.

The hand is the symbol of action, with which all things are accomplished.  And Gods hands are capable of accomplishing anything He wills.  And judgment is one of those things that will come up sooner or later.

The poor and the fatherless, are terms that represent the helpless in the world.  And all who turn to God, are believers, who in fact turn in faith, to Him, and as such are ostracized from the world and are therefore included in the category of the helpless.

The world does not claim anyone when it is all said and done, but especially the world does not claim believers in Christ.  Even those who pursue the world in their rejection of God, are in fact rejected by the world and they have nothing and no one.

Believers on the other hand, are rejected by the world, but they all have God who cares for and protects all who belong to Him.  Salvation makes that security and protection certain.

Psalm 10:13

13 Wherefore doth the wicked [rasha`] contemn [na'ats] God ['elohiym]? he hath said ['amar] in his heart, [leb] Thou wilt not require [darash] it. KJV-Interlinear

13 Why has the wicked spurned God? He has said to himself, "Thou wilt not require it." NASB

Why do the wicked spurn God?  And that really is a good question.

The wicked includes everyone who lacks truth in their soul, or rather everyone that pursues untruths in their daily lives and thoughts.

Everyone has a certain amount of truth within them, such as the knowledge of good and evil, knowing right from wrong, knowing that gravity is something you do not ignore if you happen to be walking on the edge of some high place, knowing that two plus two is four, and such things like that.  After all, God did invent all of the physics laws, etc., that govern the universe and life in general.

But when people tend to pursue philosophies that ignore truth, like evolution, socialism, social justice concepts, alternate marriage arrangements and such, then the result makes life turn topsy-turvy.  It also makes people turn to conclusions that are totally wrong.

Thus they spurn God, make fun of God, ignore God, presume that God is something less than He really is, that God is something equal to themselves, or perhaps does not exist at all.

And this attitude is not just a passing whim, but an integral part of their heart and therefore their life.

The heart symbolizes the pumping or circulating or active part of ones soul.  The thinking and/or doing of ones life.

And since the soul never rests, nor stops, even though the body might, then this activity is ongoing.

You can only think that which you know, and you will only believe in that which you know, and you will only know that which you have learned or accepted into your soul.

And oddly enough people who reject God or a higher power, actually consider the existence of a being that they reject, which is contrary to even logic.  They define a perfect being as something less than perfect and then reject it.

People grow up starting from no knowledge at birth, live for just a few decades, and then believe that they know everything.  When all around them there are numerous examples of truth that they do not and cannot know.

Or example, the separation of the soul, from the brain.  How to do it, how to measure it?  These things cannot be accomplished by man.

The beating of ones heart is something that no one can control, and yet it simply continues to occur without even a thought on the persons part.

Life as it cycles through the generations cannot be controlled, and yet people live as though their life will continue on without pause or limits.

And yet people come to the conclusion that God will not judge, will not control history, has no plan, will not do anything contrary to them.  And all of those beliefs are based on what?  Lies.  The lies of false interpretations of facts in reality.

Psalm 10:12

12 Arise, [quwm] O LORD; [Yahovah] O God, ['el] lift up [nasa'] thine hand: [yad] forget [shakach] not the humble [`anav]. [`aniy] KJV-Interlinear

12 Arise, O Lord; O God, lift up Thy hand. Do not forget the afflicted.  NASB

'Arise', is the call. Do not sit idly by and let the wicked have their way. Do not sit without action and allow their victims to continue to suffer, but 'arise', take action. Reach a conclusion and a decision as to what to do about those who practice evil in this world.

Lift up your hand, take the action warranted, execute the judgment and punishment necessary against those who are wicked and who persecute the innocent.

Here David calls on God to make the decisions necessary, to make the evaluations based on all the correct facts that God alone knows, and then act on those decisions. Note that David does not make those decisions and call for retaliation, but leaves the entire process in Gods hands.

The Lord is the personal name for the Son of God and the Savior, Jesus Christ.  God is deity.  Both refer to the same person.  Therefore, the savior and Son are both God and man. 

Only the Son, the incarnate man, has a hand to lift, but the lifting designates the taking of action.

The call is from David indicating an action which God will certainly take.  Arise is a call, but it is made with the certainty that God will take this action.

There is no question as to whether God will take this action.  It is certain.  God has promised to remember, and He will remember those (believers) who are abused as a result of the evils of the world.

Gods remembrance is in the written word, in the plan of salvation, in the mechanism of the spiritual life, in the promise of eternal life and reward, and in the guarantee of eternity.

Psalm 10:11

11 He says to himself, "God has forgotten; He has hidden His face; He will never see it." NASB

The wicked person, or rather the person who lacks knowledge in their soul, looks at life as though it is all Gods fault, or as though God does not interact in life, or that God has forgotten, or has looked away, is not interested, or simply does not exist, we are all on our own.

Life to the naïve (anyone who lacks doctrine in their soul), is nothing more than the animalistic tendencies of life, or whatever they believe.

They see and hear and smell and feel and taste.  They have their needs and wants and desires in life, but that is all limited to ones environment.

They believe that they can figure things out in life, but in fact are clueless about life. 

The highest IQ, or any other worldly attribute, is not an advantage in reality. Life is all relative to the wicked.

Whatever is agreed on, is ok.  And that means that bias or prejudice or anything that is socially acceptable is ok, as long as the majority accepts it.  Standards are lowered, integrity is lowered, the strong rule and the weak are expendable.

There are four sets of laws that rule the world and life. 

When doctrine is not present, the jungle rules apply.  This is Satan’s domain and the policy of evil.  No one is ever safe in the jungle.  No one ever wins in the jungle.  Even the strong lose sooner or later.  Everyone is subject to the laws of the jungle.

Parallel to and running concurrent with the jungle rules, are the laws of divine establishment.  These are rules established by God to run in contrast to the jungle.  Establishment principles serve to stabilize humanity and that in turn serves to perpetuate human history.  Establishment principles include but are not limited to, volition, authority, marriage, family, nationalism, patriotism, the rule of law and due process, free enterprise, freedom, liberty, justice and so forth.  God is the author of the laws of divine establishment.

Overriding all of these laws is the third level of rule which is common grace.  Grace is Gods favor, and common grace applies to all of humanity, both believer and unbeliever.  Common grace makes available the air that you breathe, the rules that you live by, the gospel that gives everyone the chance for salvation, the control that God has over history, and so forth.

The fourth level of rule is greater grace, and that applies to spiritually mature believers only.  As the believer is more and more obedient to God, confesses regularly, studies regularly, learns consistently and grows up, then greater and greater favor from God, applies to them and their life.  This makes their life here and now more meaningful and purposeful and complete, and their life in eternity beyond imagination.

Those who lack doctrine, for whatever reason, lose out and never see the opportunities that are clearly available and easily obtainable for everyone.  They just assume in their blindness, that none of this is available.  They assume that they know all they need to know or have all they need to get by, or that there is nothing more in life beyond their perception, or they simply invent their own outlook on life.

Psalm 10:10

10 He croucheth, [dakah] and humbleth [shachach] himself, that the poor [cheyl] [chelaka'] [chelaka'] may fall [naphal] by his strong ones. [`atsuwm]KJV-Interlinear

10 He crouches, he bows down, And the unfortunate fall by his mighty ones. NASB

The word for crouch, ‘dakah,’ means to be bent down, to be broken into pieces, to be crushed.

Humbled, is just that. The victim of the wicked, is crushed into a position of humility.

The poor, is a reference to the victims of the wicked, and their fall is their demise at the hands of the wicked and all their co-conspirators.

Since the wicked are driven by their lack of truth, then their drive is blinded due to that lack of truth.  This makes all the world a potential victim, and no one, even themselves (all wicked), become victims of their own behavior.

In other passages, the true believers of Christ are always rescued by God, and always remain in the protection of His hands.

Those who are not under His protection, are by default the victims of the wicked, and it is the wicked who persecute the wicked, who will ultimately destroy themselves.

In short it is the wicked who pursue nothing but wickedness and the demise of others, resulting in the demise of themselves.

Remember quickly that wicked people are not limited to criminals and despicable types with scars on their faces or crooked noses.

The wicked includes all who reject or ignore, or are indifferent toward truth.  And truth is the content of the scriptures, properly applied, not conveniently defined by self righteous types.  The spectrum of the wicked runs from the ascetic to the lascivious.

Psalm 10:9

9 He lieth in wait ['arab] secretly [mictar] as a lion ['ariy] in his den: [cok] he lieth in wait ['arab] to catch [chataph] the poor: [`aniy] he doth catch [chataph] the poor, [`aniy] when he draweth [mashak] him into his net. [resheth] KJV-Interlinear

9 He lurks in a hiding place as a lion in his lair; He lurks to catch the afflicted; He catches the afflicted when he draws him into his net. NASB

This verse describes the character of the lion and the hunter, or rather the lion as the hunter, and uses them both to symbolize the wicked person.

The lion crouches and waits in his den or in the tall grass, or behind some concealment.

The hunter sets up traps, or open but concealed pits.  Both wait in concealment, in silent watchfulness, for their unsuspecting prey to happen by.

Then they spring or unleash their trap and catch their prey, taking them both by surprise and swiftness.

Both the lion and the hunter do what they do, out of their core nature.  They seek out victims in order to kill and consume them.  They have no other purpose in life, but to survive on the loss of others.

The lion devours his victim as food.  The hunter has many uses for his kill.  Some may be for food or clothing, but many other purposes are for entertainment or the casual activity of the hunt.

And so it is with the wicked person.  Their character is by default, like that of a predator.  They serve no purpose other than to take from others.

And even though they promote many arguments or excuses of victimless activities, there is no such thing as a victimless sin or crime.

Remember that God placed this universe here for the benefit of His own family.  All who are not members of His family, by their own choice, are outcasts and have no rights to that which God owns.  They have no rights to that which Gods family will inherit.  Their destiny is the Lake of Fire if unbelievers, or the loss of eternal reward if believers who choose to maintain a wicked pattern of life.

Rejecting or maintaining an indifference toward truth, makes one a wicked person.  The wicked reject truth and pursue wickedness by default.  And thus by default they can only survive in life by taking from others, that which does not belong to them.
