Isaiah 28:21

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 28:21

21 For the LORD [Y@hovah] shall rise up [quwm] as in mount [har] Perazim [p@ratsiym], he shall be wroth [ragaz] as in the valley [`emeq] of Gibeon [Gib`own], that he may do [`asah] his work [ma`aseh], his strange [zuwr] work [ma`aseh]; and bring to pass [`abad] his act [`abodah], his strange [nokriy] act [`abodah].   KJV-Interlinear

21 For the LORD will rise up as on Mount Perazim; as in the Valley of Gibeon he will be roused; to do his deed—strange is his deed! and to work his work—alien is his work!   ESV

God often times demonstrates His great power and wisdom within the scope of the rapid destruction of great armies or peoples, who presumed themselves as undefeatable, and yet God can bring anyone or anything to their knees is short order.

David pursued and destroyed the Philistines in the valley of Perazim, 2 Sam. 5:20; 1 Chron. 14:11.  And Joshua destroyed the Amorites in the valley of Gibeon as God made the sun and moon stand still, Josh. 10:10.

And the suddenness of these defeats, brings attention to God and His infinite mercy and power and especially judgment.

And, Isaiah quotes these events just to demonstrate that it has happened once and again, the so too it can happen again, and again.

For Jesus Christ is God, and the person who executes the activities of history, controlling history for good, and never for evil.

But sooner or later, the Jewish people will turn against God and then that same suddenness will fall on them.

And strange as it may seem, that God generally destroys the enemies of His people, He will still apply justice against His own, if they turn against truth, and need a good shaking up.

And the whole principle of this verse is that the suddenness and the overwhelming result, are there not only to punish, but to impress on the minds of people, regarding their errors as well as just who Christ is, and what they have brought upon themselves.

Too often it takes a huge and overwhelming event to get the attention of people.  And just like the stubborn mule, it takes quite a hit between the eyes to get his attention.  And even then, sometimes it is not enough.  Thus judgment comes along with mind boggling fury, before people even know what they have been caught up in.

And so it will be with the Jewish people in that last generation in the Tribulation.  And so it is with many individuals throughout history as they face the inevitable judgment or decision, related to their life.

God is merciful, but Gods patience sooner or later runs out, and when that happens, then the speed and thoroughness of judgment is faster than any person can possibly contend.

Your best and only protection against being a victim, is to genuinely pursue your spiritual life as God has defined it, and intends for you.

For anything less, is simple pretense or indifference or games that you play, fooling only yourself.

Isaiah 28:20

Isaiah 28:20

20 For the bed [matstsa`] is shorter [qatsar] than that a man can stretch [sara`] himself on it: and the covering [maccekah] narrower [tsarar] than that he can wrap [kanac] himself in it.   KJV-Interlinear

20 For the bed is too short to stretch oneself on, and the covering too narrow to wrap oneself in.   ESV

An expression that is commonly applied to people who complain or have excuse after excuse.  You have made your bed, so now you must lay in it.

And so it is.  God expresses this sentiment through Isaiah.

The bed is too short.  The blanket is too small.  Both are inadequate to meet their needs. Both indicate that the bed and cover are inadequate and will not bring sleep, or rest, or contentment.

And the principle is, when you spend your energy and efforts on something that is false, then you will never obtain the intended results.

The lies of this world will not bring contentment.
The lies of this world will not bring satisfaction.
The lies of this world will not bring accomplishment
Your efforts from this world will render no reward and no credit, to you.

Disregard of God, Christ, doctrine, and therefore your overall spiritual life, are nothing more than a pursuit of a short bed and a small blanket.  They will accomplish nothing and will give you no satisfaction.

While you try as you may, to lay down and wrap yourself up within your chosen pattern of life, which is contrary to Gods will, then you will be left with nothing.  You will not attain anything that you are pursuing.

Psalm 36:10

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Psalm 36:10

10 O continue [mashak] thy lovingkindness [checed] unto them that know [yada`] thee; and thy righteousness [ts@daqah] to the upright [yashar] in heart [leb].   KJV-Interlinear

10 Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart!   ESV

Uprightness in heart is determined by what is in your soul. What is in your soul is determined by what you learn or choose to learn.  And if you choose to learn nothing then your soul will be terribly lacking in spiritual resources.

Gods loving-kindness is grace in action, or Gods mercy.

This is the application of grace, or Gods favor, from Him, to each person.

There are three types of grace.

There is common grace which applies to every human being.  God provides air and water and establishment principles and an environment in which to live and function in life in this world.  This everyone has.

Then there is salvation grace, in which God provides a higher level of grace to those who believe in Christ and are therefore saved.

Unbelievers do not have access to this grace as they have rejected it, by rejecting Christ.

Then there is greater grace, which applies to those who advance in their spiritual life, not as they have defined it, but as God has defined it.  This is the best of all the grace that is available, and it only increases as the individual advances toward, and closes in on spiritual maturity.  A person advances to spiritual maturity by means of a daily study, within fellowship, and using what he has learned, within his daily life.  This builds a spiritual structure within the soul, spiritual production within ones life, and spiritual muscle forming ones faith.

And in grace, God continues common grace to all of humanity until the end of human history, and God continues grace to all believers, and greater grace to those who genuinely pursue spiritual growth.

Psalm 36:9

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Psalm 36:9

9 For with thee is the fountain [maqowr] of life [chay]: in thy light ['owr] shall we see [ra'ah] light ['owr].   KJV-Interlinear

9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.   ESV

Christ is God, and God is the original fountain, from which all life flows.  If you choose to reject Christ, then you in effect choose non-existence.  If you choose to ignore Christ, then you in effect choose to know nothing, because Christ is truth and refusing to learn truth means learning nothing.

If anything exists, then it came from God originally.  Where God is not involved, then the false, the lies, the non-existence is.

Thus, a relationship with God is the pre-requisite for having a life after this life, in eternity.  And Gods rules are, access to Him is through faith in Christ, and by no other means.

Thus knowledge of doctrine is a pre-requisite for having knowledge, understanding, orientation, wisdom for life.  And Gods rules are, that you must learn through instruction, which is a very simple task, while in fellowship, which is a very simple process, in order to grow up in your spiritual life.

Gods light is truth.

Our access to light is Bible doctrine.

And when we learn doctrine, then we see light, which simply means that we can see and understand what life is all about and why it is, what it is, and where it is going and how we fit in to everything.

Romans 4:9

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Romans 4:9

9 Cometh this [houtos] blessedness [makarismos] then [oun] upon [epi] the circumcision [peritome] only, or [e] upon [epi] the uncircumcision [akrobustia] also [kai]? for [gar] we say [lego] that [hoti] faith [pistis] was reckoned [logizomai] to Abraham [Abraam] for [eis] righteousness [dikaiosune].   KJV-Interlinear

9 Is this blessing then only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? For we say that faith was counted to Abraham as righteousness.  ESV

In making his point, in this discussion, Paul asks the obvious question.  Does the blessing of salvation, belong to the circumcised only, or does it belong to the uncircumcised as well?

And in the next several verses, Paul will support his position by asking whether Abraham, the man to whom the entire Jewish race, looks, as the father of their race, and as the precedent of their faith.  Then, which came first, the circumcision or the promise?

If the circumcision came first, then works could potentially have an argument as to its validity of producing salvation.  But, if salvation came prior to circumcision, than faith is the object in view.

For the scriptures quote, that Abraham believed, and that resulted in righteousness being credited to him.

So, again, was that belief before or after circumcision, and if circumcision came second and therefore not an issue in salvation, then what was the purpose of circumcision.  Surely it was done for a reason.  But what?

God does not do anything without a reason.  So, what would be the reason for circumcision?

And of course the answer will come up in just a couple of verses.
