Isaiah 27:10

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 27:10

10 Yet the defenced [batsar] city [`iyr] shall be desolate [badad], and the habitation [naveh] forsaken [shalach], and left [`azab] like a wilderness [midbar]: there shall the calf [`egel] feed [ra`ah], and there shall he lie down [rabats], and consume [kalah] the branches [ca`iyph] thereof.   KJV-Interlinear

10 For the fortified city is solitary, a habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness; there the calf grazes; there it lies down and strips its branches.   ESV

Now Isaiah leads us to two conclusions.  The first is that we are not to become disheartened when bad things occur, because inevitably good will triumph, and the bad will eventually and always, go away. And second, bad things are going to happen, this is the devils world and bad is inevitable.

Therefore, when the city, and this could refer to any city, but typically when in the context is the descendants of Jacob, or the Jewish people, then Jerusalem is generally in view.

So, when Jerusalem becomes destroyed and becomes a wasteland, a place only good for animals, do not be dismayed.

For, the desolation of the city, will be replaced with lush grass and trees with branches, from which animals will graze and live.  But also, that city will again return.

So, the promise is also a bit of counsel.

Bad things are going to happen.  That is the future.  But live in doctrine, grow up in your spiritual life, advance in your faith, and in so doing, you will not only see the destructions that are destined to occur, but you will know, and perhaps see, the recovery.

In Isaiah’s day, the destruction was going happen to Jerusalem and to all of Judah at the hands of the Babylonians.

But, that will not be the end of the Jewish people, nor their lands.

In our day, we will see atrocities of one sort or another, and evil will seem to be in the winners seat.  But, that will not be the case.  Evil will be defeated and good will arise the victor.

And in the Tribulation, when all of the world is going to fall into its lowest pit ever, the destructions and hardships and sufferings will be beyond imagination and worldwide.  But again, that will not be the end of good.

In the Tribulation, as a result of the sufferings, millions will believe in Christ, where they otherwise would not have believed.  Evil will be defeated and incarcerated for a thousand years, and good will triumph.

So, bad has its place, but you have to know how to look at it and know how to handle it when it pays your life a visit.  No one is exempt.  And that is a good thing.   For because of evil, we might not otherwise want Christ, or even come to know Him, and being lost to the Lake of Fire is a bad thing to the extreme forever.

Isaiah 27:9

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 27:9

9 By this [zo'th] therefore shall the iniquity [`avon] of Jacob [Ya`aqob] be purged [kaphar]; and this is all the fruit [p@riy] to take away [cuwr] his sin [chatta'ah]; when he maketh [suwm] all the stones ['eben] of the altar [mizbeach] as chalkstones [gir] that are beaten in sunder [naphats], the groves ['asherah] and images [chamman] shall not stand up [quwm].   KJV-Interlinear

9 Therefore by this the guilt of Jacob will be atoned for, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: when he makes all the stones of the altars like chalkstones crushed to pieces, no Asherim or incense altars will remain standing.   ESV

By this, is a referral to the policy of God in His restraint on punishments toward His people.  This is not discussing the punishments of unbelievers, nor a salvation passage, but a verse that is discussing the punishments of believers, and the resultant fruit, or good that comes out of that form of adversity.

The subject in this passage is of Gods discipline, the sin of believers in general, and the sins of the Jewish people in particular.

In life there are two types of fruit, good fruit and bad fruit. The bad fruit is the wood, hay and stubble, or works of the carnal life.  The good fruit is the gold, silver, and precious stones production of the spiritual life.

In life there is also a definite contrast between having a plush or good life, versus having a difficult life.

And if you have a good life, then the danger there is in forgetting God, or deciding that you don’t need God, in which case you lose both in life and in eternal reward.

And if you have a life filled with difficulties, real difficulties, then you can become bitter and lose, or you can recognize that God is helping you remember your human flaws and weaknesses.  And this is the objective of suffering for blessing.

We all suffer, but the difference is in how we deal with it.

So, God disciplines or allows suffering for two reasons.  The first is to resolve some indiscretion in your life and to get you back on track.  The second is to serve you a reminder, not that you did anything wrong, but that you still need to remember the realities of life.

So, you can receive suffering for correction, but also you can receive suffering for blessing.

And this is the abundant fruit point being made in this verse.  God brings you through a variety of troubles, so that you will return, or remain, on track within your spiritual life, and have a productive spiritual life.

The alter of chalkstones, are stones that are easy to break or crumble, and the groves and images are also references to your non-spiritual patterns of life, that might be an enticement but certainly a distraction away from your true spiritual life.

The pattern of life you choose, no matter what it is, becomes your alter of worship or pursuit.  It is your chosen pursuit based on the visual or pleasurable (images and groves) components of life.

The non-spiritual life is a false life, is a temporary life, and will easily fall apart.  And, it leads to nothing good.
The false life is not efficacious, never satisfying, and never promotes or advances your life even a single bit.

So, reminders are often times required in order to help prevent you from falling completely off the right path and losing out on life altogether.

If you are smart, then you take the hints of life and you get yourself back on track in your spiritual life, where the real production (fruit) of life occurs.  And that leads to the completion and fulfillment of the meaning and purpose and destiny of your life.

Psalm 35:22

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Psalm 35:22

22 This thou hast seen [ra'ah], O LORD [Y@hovah]: keep not silence [charash]: O Lord ['Adonay], be not far [rachaq] from me.   KJV-Interlinear

22 You have seen, O LORD; be not silent! O Lord, be not far from me!   ESV

In contrast to the distorted seeing eyes of evil from the previous verse, God also sees, but with an objective and truthful eye, matching facts perfectly with reality.

People, without doctrine, see what they want to see.  They see in arrogance.  And as such, their arrogance distorts what they see.

They presume more than they have a right to presume.  They ignore truth and fact, and they make-up or invent their own version of what they see.

And, as evil boasts in loud voices, about things that are not even real, so God speaks loudly with truth, through doctrine.

Evil and arrogance soon lose steam and fade away, but truth keeps on going unhindered, and uncompromised.

And, God is not only near, but as close as the Bible doctrine that is in your soul.

Psalm 35:21

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Psalm 35:21

21 Yea, they opened their mouth [peh] wide [rachab] against me, and said ['amar], Aha [heach], aha [heach], our eye [`ayin] hath seen [ra'ah] it.   KJV-Interlinear

21 They open wide their mouths against me; they say, “Aha, Aha! Our eyes have seen it!”   ESV

Gloating deceivers, boasters, they who wink the eye, hate without cause, make fun, presume they are the wiser.

And this is what they did against Jesus, who is the Christ, the unique God/man of all that is, omniscient, omnipotent, sovereign over all that exists, creator of all that exists.  And here are people, who know virtually nothing by comparison, have done nothing by comparison, having phenomenal limitations as is the nature of humanity, making fun of Jesus.

Aha, we have seen your fall from grace, your downfall.  Once the speaker to large crowds, a doer of miracles, and now a convicted criminal.  And so the mocking goes.

But that nonsense is not unique to those days of long ago, it still exists even today, where most of the world ignores Jesus altogether, and most Christians, do not take His mandates seriously, having more important things to do with their time.

And yet, it is the Bible that is the mind of Christ, and to learn Christ you have to learn the Bible, which seems to be the biggest barrier in the minds of most believers, unfortunately.

Simply looking at history, one should know that we are not here for a very long time.  That our time begins and our time ends, and then we are faced with eternity.  This world is the training ground and the Bible is the training manual, to prepare us for eternity.  But who bothers?

And so it goes.  Some mocked by means of verbal comment, while others mock by means of indifference.  What is the difference?

Romans 3:25

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Romans 3:25

25 Whom [hos] God [theos] hath set forth [protithemai] to be a propitiation [hilasterion] through [dia] faith [pistis] in [en] his [autos] blood [haima], to [eis] declare [endeixis] his [autos] righteousness [dikaiosune] for [dia] the remission [paresis] of sins [hamartema] that are past [proginomai], through [en] the forbearance [anoche] of God [theos];   KJV-Interlinear

25 whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.   ESV

Whom, refers to Jesus Christ.  God has set forth, ‘protithemai,’ means to place in public view, to put on display in a conspicuous manner, to make it very clear to one and all, that it is Jesus Christ and no other, that through Him, the means of salvation is and was secured.

To be a propitiation, ‘hilasterion,’ means to be a covering, to be an appeasement, to be satisfied.

And so Jesus Christ became the mechanism for the application of the justice of God, against sin, in order to pay the price of sin, as demanded by righteousness, in His death, which is the spiritual death, but also the physical death that came after the work of the Cross, to demonstrate that God had won the victory over not only sin, but over death as well.

The remission, ‘paresis,’ is the passing over or to the pardon of sin.  God can pardon sin, after the payment of sin has occurred.

But before the cross, there were thousands of years and many generations of people, world over, that had been sinning daily and regularly, and yet none of them were wiped out, because of the lack of a savior.

But God had made a promise, and it was that promise, which looked forward to the event of the cross, to which God could place a delay or a deferment on the penalty of sin, because of the certainty of the occurrence of the work of Christ and the cross.

Jesus came into this world, to secure our salvation.

He lived the perfect life and fulfilled the Mosaic Law.  He caused miracle after miracle to substantiate His identity.  He broke no laws, broke no regulations, did nothing wrong.  And yet humanity turned against Him, falsely accused Him, tried Him in six separate trials through the night and on a holy day violating mans own rules, just to be rid of a very good man.

Man executed God, as it were, to demonstrate mans absolute incompetence, and evil hate against the very foundation of good.

And so, Jesus was taken to the cross and humiliated and abused and killed.

And in so doing, His work in that effort, became acceptable to God, and so Jesus became the very essence of propitiation, a covering, a satisfactory work, which God accepted as thorough and complete.

Sin was a rejection of truth and of good and of God.  Righteousness demanded that sin be tried and convicted and obliterated.  Justice was the means of that action.

That opened the way for God to accept man, since now mans sins had been paid for in full, and to pardon man, because of his sins, because the payment of the price for sin had been fulfilled.

Note that the cross did not forgive sins, but paved the way for forgiveness.

The cross paid the price of sin and secured victory over sin and death.  Once removed, then God can now forgive.  This is why we have confession, because we continue to sin, but we must recognize our sins before God, time and again, and God is faithful and just to forgive.

There is no double jeopardy here.  Sin cannot be tried twice, but it can be pardoned and forgiven over and over, again and again.

God passed-over the sins of humanity until the time of the cross, and when the cross had become a reality, then salvation became a reality as the promise had been fulfilled.

This too, is why all Old Testament believers went to paradise instead of heaven, as prisoners of sorts, due to the delay in the historical event of the cross. But once the cross had occurred, then Christ led all of the prisoners out of paradise and into heaven.

Now in our time, since we are after the cross, when we die, we go directly to heaven.  We are not trapped by an argument of debate or by a rule of law, which no doubt Satan puts forth in his attempts to defeat God.
